A new year is just around the corner and if you’re wondering what new British productions Netflix has coming up for 2024 and beyond, you’ve come to the right place. Below, we’ll break down all the currently announced new British movies, series and documentaries in the works.
Please remember that this doesn’t represent every movie and series currently in development at Netflix. There are a few that we’re not allowed to mention just yet, including a hotly anticipated new series from a writer who has produced some excellent titles for Netflix so far.
There are also plenty of shows and movies that should probably be listed here but won’t be. That’s because of how entwined US and UK projects tend to be, with some more US-produced series like The Witcher also falling into the UK camp...

This is Christmas is a film that, in the wrong hands, could be a little too over-sentimental. It treads the line, but thanks to sincere and just really bloody nice people who have made it, it works, making this a great festive feature to indulge in. Well, this is what we gathered anyway when speaking to the affable duo of Alfred Enoch and Kaya Scodelario, as we discuss with the pair – famed of course for their roles in the likes Harry Potter and Skins, respectively, the value of being a good person, and how this can benefit a film set.
Through this we speak about director Chris Foggin, we delve into their current musical choices (who isn’t this time of year when Spotify shame us all) – and they talk about the notion that strangers are just friends we haven’t met yet, and what it’s really like to...

The moment a group of Cornish fishermen and lifeboatmen turned their charitable crooning on the shore of Port Isaac into a Universal Music record deal that saw them debut in the top ten was the moment producers started falling over themselves to sign the life rights for a cinematic adaptation. And just as the band subsequently released another two collections of sea shanties and traditional folk songs despite their original one-album contract, it appears that Chris Foggin’s feel-good dramedy will soon receive its own sequel. I guess that’s the power of Fisherman’s Friends and their inspiring bond steeped in history, work ethic, family, and friendship. They’re a band that’s as easy to underestimate as they are to champion once they’ve proven you wrong because the music doesn’t lie.

"Fisherman's Friends" is the new 'comedy-drama' feature from Samuel Goldwyn Films, directed by Chris Foggin, starring Daniel Mays, James Purefoy and Tuppence Middleton based on a true story about 'Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends', a group of traditional 'sea-shanty' singing 'Cornish' fishermen from Port Isaac who were signed by Universal Records and achieved a hit with their debut album:
"....a fast living, cynical London music executive reluctantly heads to Cornwall on a colleague's stag weekend where he's pranked by his boss into trying to sign a group of shanty-singing fishermen. He becomes the ultimate 'fish out of water' struggling to gain the respect or enthusiasm of the unlikely boy band who value friendship and community over fame and fortune. Attempting to overcome the fishermen's scepticism about the music business, he finds himself drawn into the community, has his integrity tested and ultimately is shown the meaning of loyalty, love and friendship.

Netflix's Sex Education Season 3 was confirmed by the streaming giant less than a month after Season 2 arrived.
Sex Education is officially scheduled for a third seasonal semester on Netflix!
The caustic Netflix comedy focused on levity-laced adolescent libidinous – a production of U.K. company Eleven Films – has quietly established itself as a breath of fresh air, and has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim, thus making the renewal for Sex Education Season 3 – less than a month after the January 17 release of Season 2 – unsurprising but nevertheless welcome news.
Netflix made the third season renewal announcement with a tracking-shot-centric promo in which cast member Alistair Petrie (Principal Groff) – seemingly tapped into a Rod Serling/Night Gallery mode – walks through a Moordale High art exhibition filled with framed portraits of Sex Education’s primary players such as Otis (Asa Butterfield), Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), Lily (Tanya Reynolds) and resident therapeutic matriarch Dr.

Foulkes’ savage satire starring Damon Herriman and Mia Wasikowska as husband-and-wife puppeteers in an anarchic world has garnered a 79 per cent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes since the world premiere at Sundance.
But critical acclaim often doesn’t reflect cinemagoers’ tastes, particularly for niche titles which are as challenging and dark in tone as this. The Madman Entertainment release fetched $29,000 on 38 screens last weekend and $108,000 with festival screenings.
Cinema Nova’s Natalie Miller says: “I think the title is a bit of a hindrance as people don’t know if it’s a children’s film and would find it quite different and confronting, despite great acting.”

Haugesund, Norway — Celine Sciamma’s intellectually dexterous, bittersweet love tale “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” has claimed another heart, taking home The Norwegian Film-Critics’ Prize at the Haugesund Film Festival’s closing night on Thursday.
The festival, which runs over August 17-23, capped its 47th edition with a screening of André Løyning and Kristian Landmark’s documentary
Sciamma’s revisionist romance won the screenplay prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May and will next head to Toronto, where it will screen as a Special Presentation.
“With elegance, sophistication and courage, the film explores how love and vitality can – at least momentarily – throw off the shackles of an oppressive social order. Exquisite acting performances and cinematography, combined with a soupcon of mythological symbolism, add up to a work of serious artistic merit,” noted the jury members in their verdict.
The Eurimages Lab Award went to director Guro Bruusgaard’s “Him.

Chris Foggin’s Fisherman’s Friends is a rather formulaic, yet oddly disarming romantic comedy starring Daniel Mays, Tuppence Middleton and James Purefoy. Set in Port Isaac and loosely based on the real life story of a group of ageing, sea shanty-singing fishermen from Cornwall, the film tells the story of how the group hit the big time after being accidentally discovered by a big shot London talent scout, and eventually scoring a top 10 hit with their first album. The real life fishermen from the story, in fact, went on to perform at Glastonbury and even played at the Queen’s jubilee in 2012.

Chris Foggin’s first feature casts a fondly satirical eye on a young and privileged west London crowd
As the kids in question emerge from the trust-funded Gabriels and Violas of West London, some might take this handsome Ya romance as further evidence of creative-industry elitism. Chris Foggin’s first feature nevertheless retains two highly favourable elements. Will Poulter is typically no-nonsense as the Portobello Road set’s own Ben Braddock, drifting from his straight-edge lifepath under the influence of worldly Parisian Evelyn (Alma Jodorowsky).

Kids In Love tells a very specific coming-of-age story. Not a universal one by any stretch, but rather an exploration of what it’s like to be a middle class British young man who’s just reached the end of compulsory education. Options are sprawled in front of Will Poulter’s Jack - an unpaid internship, a gap year, a university course – but none of them particularly interest him.
Enter Alma Jodorowsky as Evelyn, a Frenchwoman living in London who parties at places that Jack can’t even describe. She lives in a big quirky house filled with free-spirited pals, including Cara Delevingne’s Viola (an interesting role for the Suicide Squad alum, with a certain wit and warmth emerging alongside a vast collection of colourful headbands), Evelyn’s loathsome boyfriend Cassius (co-writer Preston Thompson) and the film’s breakthrough comedic force Milo (the other co-writer,...

The London-set coming-of-age drama desperately wants to be radical, but it’s characters are too comfortably-off to be convincing

UK cinema in 2015 has plenty to recommend it. Here are 36 UK films of all genres to look forward to this year…
Dig past the litterfall of Kray Brothers biopics and tales of nubile teens on camping trips gone wrong, and you’ll unearth plenty for the UK film industry to boast about in 2015. From sci-fi romps and thrillers like Robot Overlords and Ex Machina to dramas like High-Rise, comedies like War On Everyone, spy flicks like Spectre and kids’ films like Bill, there’s no shortage of inventive, highly promising cinema coming from these isles.
We’ve included a few choice co-productions in 2015’s pick of the year’s most interesting-looking pictures, which bolsters our list in both size and breadth (and mostly means we Brits can claim partial credit for ace-sounding dystopian flick The Lobster).
In alphabetical order then, here are the 36 UK (or UK-ish) movies we’re excited about seeing this year…...

Gossip flew in early August that Cara Delevingne was crossing over from the modeling world into movies with a rumored film project described as "rich kids who live a wild lifestyle filled with parties and drugs."
Which sounded just about right for Delevingne, who comes from a wealthy English family and is quite the partier herself. But now we can stop speculating and start following: The movie, called "Kids In Love" appears to be a go, based on several photos the 21-year-old model posted to Instagram on Thursday tagged #kidsinlove.
CatwalkQueen.tv notes that included in Cara's photos are also Alma Jodorowsky, Gala Gordon, Sebastian de Souza (of "Skins"), Preston Thompson and director Chris Foggin, who also posted a revealing Instagram pic: a shot of the black and white clapperboard bearing the project title "Kids In Love."
So there you have it, folks. Cara Delevingne is officially in a movie,...

A paranoiac Luke Treadaway and a pulp writer in decline star in the two standouts of this diverting half-dozen short films
A half-dozen shorts care of distributor Soda's New British Cinema programme, all diverting, two outstanding. The narrative-short food groups are amply covered: twist-in-the-tale jobs (Douglas Hart's Long Distance Information has splenetic Peter Mullan forming a surprising telephonic bond one Christmas), pun-films (Dan Sully's short, sweet urban legend The Ellington Kid; Romola Garai's straining Scrubber, about a woman juggling dogging with Ocd), zeitgeisty star vehicles (Chris Foggin's agreeably cosy Friend Request Pending, with Judi Dench as a lovelorn silver surfer). The picks are William Jewell's teasing, stylish feature-in-waiting Man in Fear, which conjures a fatalistic universe around paranoiac Luke Treadaway and no-nonsense copper Tim Healy; and Matthew Holness's A Gun for George, a tremendously assured, funny-sad portrait of a pulp writer in decline, which envelops...
