Focus Features has acquired worldwide rights to Carey Mulligan comedy “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” Variety can confirm exclusively.
They will release the film in the U.S. while Universal Pictures International is handling global distribution.
The film, which was previously titled “One For The Money,” is directed by James Griffiths (“Cuban Fury”) and produced by Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow productions (“Philomena”).
The screenplay was written by Tom Basden (“After Life”) and Tim Key (“Great Expectations”), who also star in the film alongside Sian Clifford (“Fleabag”) and Akemnji Ndifornyen (“Famalam”).
“The Ballad of Wallis Island” tells the story of Charles (played by Key), an eccentric lottery winner who tries to reunite his favorite musical duo Mortimer-McGwyer (Mulligan and Basden) despite the fact they split up many years ago. Making things even more awkward, the musicians – Nell Mortimer and Herb McGwyer — were also once romantically involved with each other a la Sonny and Cher.

Editor’s Note: The following post contains spoilers for “The New Look” Episode 9.
With the penultimate episode of “The New Look” comes the end of the road for Elsa Lombardi (Emily Mortimer), one of the most fascinating and fictionalized characters in Todd Kessler’s Apple TV+ series. After a fight with Coco (Juliette Binoche), a critical interaction with Spatz (Claes Bang), and a fatal overdose, Elsa is found dead while Coco weeps over her body.
But a quick scan of history reveals that Elsa Lombardi never existed. According to Kessler, Mortimer’s character is an amalgam of two figures in Chanel’s life, fused for narrative purposes to serve the series. One of those is the French-Polish musician Misia Sert, who met Chanel in 1917, and the other is British socialite Vera Lombardi, whose lifestyle inspired the House of Chanel.
The real-life Lombardi was Chanel’s way into British high society,...

With all that is going on — and has been going on in the last few years, it's somewhat reassuring that Paddington will be back on our screens next year. Even if Paul King isn't directing (he's still involved as a producer), the return of the diminutive, kindhearted bear is something to look forward to. And now we know he'll be back on UK screens next year.
Paddington In Peru (for that is the third film's title) brings the bear’s story to Peru as he returns to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown Family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and to the mountain peaks of Peru.

Eboni K. Williams appeared in only one season of The Real Housewives of New York City, but she believes the Rhony reboot was springboarded from the impact she made on season 13.
“I’m rooting for these new women in this reboot,” Williams told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “This reboot is my legacy. This is a derivative of the disruption that my presence brought to this show. So I want these women to win. At the same time, they’re also not a preexisting group of friends.”
“So you’re kind of right back where you started from, which is why before cameras went up, they had to come down. They had their first scandal before they even hit air,” Williams said, referring to the casting scramble after Lizzy Savetsky was abruptly off the cast.”

David Bowie’s 1972 opus The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was his first truly classic album, and it remains one of the most important rock records of all time. Fifty-one years later, Ziggy‘s centerpiece “Starman” is being reimagined as the lead single off Ziggy Stardub, a beautifully crafted reggae version of Bowie’s iconic LP from New York’s Easy Star All-Stars, who have built a career on reinterpreting rock for the dread set.

Many of us have people in our lives who just aren’t as into horror as we are. Come October, it is tempting to simply hide away, shunning them for a month as we indulge in our favorite genre, as we no doubt will do at least some of the time. But then, they may be open to getting into the Halloween spirit at least a little bit.
For that, there are a number of terrific movies that take place on and around the holiday that are not out of the question for the squeamish. Some fit comfortably into the horror genre and some are far from it, but all beautifully capture the essence of the season.
So, here are a few of our favorite family Halloween movies to get you and the scaredy cat in your life into the Halloween mood for spooky season…

’There is no point in releasing 25 movies a year. We need to be selective,’ says Belga’s Patrick Vandenbosch.
Patrick Vandenbosch, chief executive of leading Benelux distributor Belga, has outlined the company’s new strategy following its acquisition this week of Marc Punt’s Amsterdam-based distributor Independent Films.
Belga previously had a 50/50 partnership with Independent and released its films in the Netherlands through the company, while Independent’s films were released in Belgium through Belga. Now, Belga has taken over the Dutch outfit entirely.
