Cameron Norrie had his moments with Novak Djokovic, but he still considers him above Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at his peak.
Depending on your allegiance in terms of the Big Three, you might feel a certain way about Novak Djokovic, and his most recent success, with some predicting him to win up to 30 Grand Slams. It would certainly end the endless debates about who the best player of all time is.
While quite fun, it becomes a constant talking point, while in reality, it doesn't even matter that much. Mostly because it's such a subjective thing, what is the best ice cream? What is the best film? It's impossible to say because it means different things to different people.
While you can quantify sports because you have records and achievements, people will still prefer one or another for whatever reason imaginable.

Novak Djokovic has been utterly spectacular in the Davis Cup, having avoided a loss for nearly 12 years before Saturday's match against Jannik Sinner.
Novak Djokovic is obviously one of the best players ever if not the best player ever, and he has many stats that back him up. He was basically unbeaten for ten years on the Centre Court of Wimbledon, which is amazing.
Another amazing stat was that he didn't lose for 12 years in the Davis Cup. Now, he only played the competition when it really mattered, so it's not like he totaled hundreds of matches in it, but the fact that he didn't lose for such a long time speaks volumes.
His stats in the competition are pretty impressive. He has totaled 47 matches so far and lost 7 of them, which is a pretty good mark. The last loss came against Juan Martin Del Potro back in 2011 when Serbia faced Argentina.

Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli believes Carlos Alcaraz and fellow Next Gen star Holger Rune have demanding playing styles that may not be sustainable for the body for a long time.
In an exclusive interview with Tennis Majors , Bartoli singled out Novak Djokovic who embodies all the qualities of a perfect athlete as he does what he needs to almost effortlessly while on the court. Even at 36, the former Wta star is not surprised to see Djokovic remain at the top of his game.
Alcaraz and Rune have risen through the ranks at lightning speed . The Spaniard, in particular, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom. Alcaraz became the first man born after 1990 to hold onto two Grand Slams when he won Wimbledon in July . He is also the youngest Atp year-end No. 1 in history.
Such accomplishments are backed by the sheer indefatigability he possesses while on the court. At...

The 2023 Stockholm Open promises to be a fabulous spectacle of indoor hard-court tennis and the tournament has committed its highest financial payday.
Running from October 16th to 22nd, this prestigious Atp 250 will bring together 28 singles players to Sweden's capital, Stockholm, preserving the heritage for one of the longest-running tennis tournaments on the Atp Tour.
Denmark's Holger Rune is the top seed and the reigning champion. No player has successfully defended the Stockholm Open crown since 2017, and Rune faces a massive challenge to reprise Juan Martin Del Potro's feat from six years ago.
Rune will likely need to take down second seed Tallon Griekspoor , one of the Atp Tour's biggest movers this season. British one-hander Daniel Evans won an Atp 500 event this year and is a player who thrives in an indoor setting and could be a danger.

Toni Nadal stated that the current version of Novak Djokovic is well below that of 5 to 10 years ago and that the current Atp roster is inferior in comparison to a few years back.
In a blunt assessment of the current state of men's tennis in a written column on El Pais , the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal held no punches. The lack of widespread consistency at the top level is alarming, according to Toni Nadal, adding that the pace at which tennis is played nowadays leads to many mistakes.
Testament to his words is the number of shocking defeats happening frequently in tennis tournaments. Already at the 2023 US Open, half of the Top 20 seeds failed to progress beyond the third-round stage.
With the exception of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz , Toni Nadal admits players today are only focused on hitting the ball very hard at the expense of losing control of points.

Former Atp No. 3 Juan Martin del Potro is unsure what the future holds, but spoke like a man who is hopeful of playing at least one more match at the US Open .
The 34-year-old retired from professional tennis in February 2022, playing his last match at the Buenos Aires Open in his home country. But he shocked the tennis world when he announced his intention to play at this year's US Open for one final time.
Speaking to Tennis.com , del Potro holds the US Open so dear to his heart. Back in 2009, the tournament completely changed the course of his career and his life. He defeated five-time champion Roger Federer in five sets at the age of 20 to win his one and only Grand Slam title.

Juan Martin Del Potro hoped to play at the 2023 US Open to say goodbye one final time, but it won't be happening.
Del Potro had already retired from the sport doing it back home in Argentina at the Buenos Aires Open. Still, the Argentinian had the wish to play one final time at the US Ope n in order to properly say goodbye to the sport at the place where he had his best moment.
In 2009, a young Juan Martin Del Potro made a sensational effort to defeat Roger Federer in the US Open final. The triumph would remain his only Grand Slam trophy, which seemed unthinkable then. Many assumed that Del Potro would win multiple Grand Slams because his talent was that big.
Unfortunately, multiple injuries stopped him from more success on the Atp Tour. The Argentinian had a couple of strong runs, but he was never far away from a serious injury,...

Novak Djokovic 's coach Goran Ivanisevic has provided an update on the 23-time Grand Slam winner's schedule ahead of the US Open .
Djokovic's last match was the five-set epic against Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final, which the Serbian eventually lost. Rather than jumping straight back into the action, Djokovic decided to take a break and withdrew from the 2023 Canadian Open in Toronto due to fatigue.
However, the 36-year-old is expected to get back on the court at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters as he starts to increase his preparations for a US Open return. Also, according to Ivanisevic, during an interview with Sportske Novosti , Djokovic has already begun his work towards the US Open in September.
"He had a bit of a break, but now the preparations for the US tour are starting. Preparations begin at the end of the week, he's slowly starting with the fitness, and then the tennis.

2023 might be the year of the Rabbit in Chinese culture but in tennis, it's the year of returns apparently as Kevin Anderson is coming back to the Atp Tour.
Unless you've been living under a rock, you might have noticed that we've seen an influx of former players making a comeback to tennis. Not long ago Milos Raonic shockingly came back to tennis after being away for a very long time.
He never effectively retired so it doesn't really count, but one who did was Caroline Wozniacki. She's coming back too as announced recently . Juan Martin Del Potro is possibly coming back later this year at the US Open though that will only be to properly say goodbye at the only Grand Slam event he ever won.

Andy Murray added another Atp Challenger trophy to his tally this year ensuring a return to the Top 40 for the first time in 5 years.
Andy Murray won the 2023 Nottingham Open on Sunday by beating Arthur Cazaux in the final improving to 10-0 on the grass right now. For the first time in years, Murray has won 10 matches in a row, and he's just one or two more wins away from securing a seeded spot in the Wimbledon draw.
That was the big goal leading up to this year's event and he's very close to getting it done. He will need to defeat Alex de Minaur at the Queen's Club to have a chance at a spot in the top 32 spots of the Wimbledon draw. Two wins at the Cinch Championships would ensure him a spot in the top 32 which would be a major achievement for Murray.

Paul McNamee considers Novak Djokovic the greatest of all time but he hasn't called him that yet out of respect to Rafael Nadal.
There aren't many great things about the era of the Big Three ending, but one could be that the Goat debate won't be recycled as much. Or so you think. The reality is that it's going to be a question for as long as tennis is being played.
It doesn't matter whether Djokovic dismisses it , it doesn't matter whether Nadal 'doesn't care' about being Goat , it's never going to go away as a topic. Unless something drastic happens which of course is possible no matter how likely. After Djokovic won the 23rd, the topic resurfaced again. The record still stands from the encounter between Gilles Hussey and Constantin Bittoun Kouzmine at the 2021 Itf Futures tournament in Cancun, Mexico. That legendary contest, which spanned 4 hours and 41 minutes, ended with Hussey's victory, 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4).
It surpassed the previous record set by Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro at the 2012 London Olympics semi-finals, a match that lasted 4 hours and 26 minutes.
Remarkably, the 4-hour, 13-minute spectacle between Daniel and Humbert was not...

Juan Martin Del Potro has set his sights on making a return to the 2023 US Open, the stage of his sole Grand Slam victory.
Despite retiring from professional tennis in 2022 after a farewell match at the Argentina Open, Del Potro remains hopeful that he can make one final appearance in Flushing Meadows, provided his health and knee condition allow it.
Del Potro's journey back to the court will not be an easy one, as he faces the daunting challenge of rehabilitating his knee and regaining the physical fitness required to compete at the highest level. However, the former world No. 3 is ready to fight for the biggest title again and he already started practicing.
The 2009 US Open champion expressed his desire to take part in the prestigious tournament one last time when he said that if he has to play one more match this year, he surely wants it to be at the 2023 US Open.

Juan Martin Del Potro wants to play one final time at the US Open but a lot will depend on his health and knee.
Del Potro retired from his beloved sport last year with a match against Federico Delbonis at the 2022 Argentina Open in Buenos Aires. It was a fair send-off among his folks but a grand one could be at this year's US Open, the only grand slam he ever won.
The intent is to try and prepare for it with the hope of playing at the event if his knee and body hold up. It's a big if but Del Potro has faith that he can do so, especially if he gives it his all and it's not the first time that he's hinting at a return to tennis.
My goal is to be ready to play an official match in the tournament. I don’t know if...

Juan Martin Del Potro retired in Buenos Aires last year but the Argentine will give it another go in hopes of making a return at the US Open.
Del Potro's biggest career moment came at the US Open over a decade ago when he defeated Roger Federer as a teenager to win his maiden grand slam. Many expected a few to follow that one but ultimately we didn't see him lift another Grand Slam trophy in his career.
Injuries proved too costly and forced him into early retirement. Last year, the tall Argentinian hinted that he may come back to tennis in 2023 and now it seems that the comeback may become reality as he revealed in a recent interview.
I love tennis, it will never be a problem to pick up a racquet and see how I feel. The physical problem and my knee are things I work on every day.

Paris, June 9 (Ians) Down 3-6, 6-7(3), 5-6 and facing match point against fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in French Open quarter-finals on Tuesday night, world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev decided to experiment and serve underarm. Tsitsipas, who seemed to be ready for it, blasted a backhand winner to clinch victory and book a spot in the semi-finals.
"A very millennial shot, so true. Once he took like a short break, I saw he stopped. I felt like there was something coming up, so at that point I think I got prepared for it," said Tsitsipas after the match.
"It is that, like, less of a second when you realise something is about to change from a regular [serve]. It was fine. I [did] what I had to do," added Tsitsipas while speaking to media.
The Greek tennis player, who reached his third successive Grand Slam semi-final said he is playing well and looking in great form.

Paris, June 5 (Ians) Stefanos Tsitsipas, who is looking to become youngest Grand Slam singles champion in over 11 years, has said he is satisfied with consistency in his game this year.

Geneva, May 18 (Ians) World No.75 Pablo Andujar of Spain ended No. 8 Roger Federer's 32-match winning streak on Swiss soil, defeating the 39-year-old tennis great 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the second round of the Geneva Open on Tuesday.
It was Federer's first loss in Switzerland since October 27, 2013, when Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro beat him in the Swiss Indoors Basel final.
Andujar will next face the winner of the second-round match between Switzerland's Dominic Stephan Stricker (No. 419) and Marton Fucsovics of Hungary.
Andujar placed his serve deep and capitalised on Federer's shorter groundstrokes in the early stages. Although Federer's movement improved, groundstroke errors cost the Swiss at 4-5 when Andujar wrapped up the opening set in 38 minutes.
It wasn't until the third game of the second set that Federer created his first break point off a forehand winner. With a 2-1 advantage, Federer grew in confidence and started to impose his all-court game.

Buenos Aires, March 23 (Ians) Former world No. 3 Argentine tennis star Juan Martin del Potro said that he will undergo knee surgery for the fourth time in less than two years in a bid to compete at this year's Tokyo Olympics.
The del Potro, 32, has not played since June 2019, when he suffered a fractured right patella for the second time in nine months during the Queen's Atp 500 tournament in London.

Despite both being in their thirties, their rivalry has never stopped. What’s intriguing, however, is how amiable it has always been (or seemed to be). With the quieter Pete Sampras and emotional Andre Agassi a generation earlier, the same was true despite their differing personalities and server versus returner billing. You could call the former a product of the latter and the latter a product of the explosive combat before them between “ice cold” Björn Borg and New York “superbrat” John McEnroe. The glaring difference of course is that their iconic war was augmented off-court by the media. It may have only really lasted two years, but the effect it had on the sport of tennis was permanent.

The Flash‘s Barry Allen might argue that he, and not Usain Bolt, is the fastest man alive. On this Earth, however, the only man capable of challenging Bolt’s title was Justin Gatlin of Team USA.

Who will we watch pick his wedgies now? We’ll leave all the tennis talk to the experts, though. It’s that time of year again, Wimbledon has rolled around and has already sprung up a surprise or two on its 1st day. Defending champion Roger Federer, after cruising through to a straight sets victory on centre court yesterday, will be hoping to mount a respectable defense of his title. While Andy Murray, Britain’s great hope, followed Federer’s example with a comfortable straight sets victory over Benjamin Becker.
While the talk of Wimbledon will inevitably fall on the world’s top players, what of the ranked outsiders, those who could easily fall at the 1st hurdle yet could also spring an upset. Everyone loves an underdog and there is no greater stage than Wimbledon for that to hold true. A perfect example is that of Goran Ivanisevic, who back in 2001 and ranked 125 won Wimbledon despite needing a wildcard for to enter. It can happen.

Andy Roddick's career as a professional tennis career came to an end Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 5) at the U.S. Open.
Roddick said he would retire whenever his run at this year's Open ended, and it did so in a four-set loss Wednesday to Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina, 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. The match started Tuesday night, but rain pushed the conclusion of the match to Wednesday.
The 30-year-old Roddick has only one major championship to his name -- he won the 2003 U.S. Open -- but he won 32 tournaments in his career and helped the United States win the Davis Cup in 2007. He was a Grand Slam finalist four other times, losing all four times to Roger Federer, including an epic five-set match at Wimbledon in 2009.
Roddick, who's married to model Brooklyn Decker, said at his retirement press conference that he wasn't "healthy enough or committed enough" to keep playing another year.

Roddick, who's married to model Brooklyn Decker, said at his retirement press conference that he wasn't "healthy enough or committed enough" to keep playing another year.

And with that, Andy Roddick called it a career. The 30-year-old champ, the only American man still playing to have won a grand slam singles title, lost Wednesday in the fourth round of the U.S. Open, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, 6-4, to Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro. Scheduled for last night, Roddick won the first set before the match was postponed due to a rain delay. Roddick announced last week that he would be retiring after this tournament, which he won in 2003. Model Brooklyn Decker watched from the stands as her hubby saved one match point but ultimately succumbed to the hard-hitting Del Potro, who just won a bronze medal at the London Olympics. "Since I was a kid, I've been coming to this...

Tennis champ Andy Roddick has announced that he plans to retire following the 2012 U.S. Open, so every match he plays at the tournament could potentially be his last as a professional player. But Roddick's career won't end on Tuesday, Sept. 4, as his match against Juan Martin del Potro was rained out and will continue on Wednesday.
According to Espn, Roddick was in the lead after a tiebreaker in his first set when the rain at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens became so disruptive that officials delayed the match. He'll ideally pick up the game on Wednesday, Sept. 5, although rain is in the forecast again so who knows if the weather will cooperate.
The Roddick/del Potro match wasn't the only one hit with a rain delay -- Maria Sharapova and Marion Bartoli will resume their game on Wednesday as well.

President Obama and the Democrats get their chance to respond to last week’s Republican convention, as their own three-night infomercial kicks off Tuesday night in Charlotte. The Republicans had to deal with a hurricane that spared Tampa but flooded the Gulf Coast. The Democrats have their own sideshow problems: The NFL season kicks off Wednesday night.
If you’re already conventioned out, and the first blitz of football fever makes you twitch, there’s still plenty of top-notch entertainment to consume, beginning with tonight’s Breaking Bad and culminating with the premiere-packed opening weekend at the Toronto Film Festival.

British tennis player Andy Murray gave the hometown crowd quite a show Sunday (Aug. 5) when he defeated tennis great Roger Federer of Switzerland to take the 2012 Summer Olympics gold medal.
The two played for in the Wimbledon finals four weeks ago to the day and that time Federer defeated Murray rather handily in front of Murray's countrymen for his record-tying seventh Wimbledon title. But not this time.

Murray won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, and had the crowd whipped into a frenzy by the time his gold medal point came on an ace. He and Federer quickly embraced at center court and Federer exited the arena.
Perhaps Federer just didn't have any gas left in the tank. His semifinal match-up against Juan Martin del Potro lasted an Olympic record-setting 4 hours, 26 minutes, twice as long as Murray's semifinal...
