Stars: Christian Slater, Elika Portnoy, Timothy Spall, Donald Sutherland | Written by Nancy L. Babine, Hans Feuersinger, Elika Portnoy | Directed by Isaac Florentine
I had high hopes for Sofia, I really did. After all the film, which is also know as Assassin’s Bullet in some territories, comes from director Isaac Florentine whose last four movies – Undisputed II, The Shepherd, Ninja and Undisputed III - were slices of B-movie genius, harkening back to the 90s heyday of Dtv action flicks. However Undisputed III was filmed over two years ago and it seems in the two years that have followed Florentine may have lost some of his action-movie mojo…
Set in Sofia, Bulgaria – which also (obviously) provides the name of this action thriller – the film tells the tale of Vicki Denev (Portnoy) and her alter egos: a killer, a schoolteacher and a seductress. Agent Robert Diggs (Slater) is an ex FBI...

Last week saw the release of the second season of the brilliant The Walking Dead, one of the best and most talked-about television programmes currently on the air – and about to kick off with its anticipated third season.
And this week brings with it the release of one of the year’s most successful films in the form of The Hunger Games, very much one of the biggest blockbusters of 2012, beginning what is set to become an immense franchise in the years to come.
There are a lot of films coming to the shelves this week, so I shall press on.
My picks of the week:
Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games & Lasse Hallström’s Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.
The Office: An American Workplace – Season 7 & Boardwalk Empire – Season 2.
And, of course, the Blu-ray release of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.

Title: Assassin’s Bullet Director: Isaac Florentine Cast: Christian Slater, Donald Sutherland, Elika Portnoy, Timothy Spall I feel bad for Christian Slater, Donald Sutherland and Timothy Spall. They must have either been manipulated into acting in Assassin’s Bullet, or straight out lied to. Those would be the only logical assumptions that can be made for why anyone would make the decision to be in this catastrophic disaster. Director Isaac Florentine, who also directed the Mma-based films, Undisputed II: Last Man Standing and Undisputed III: Redemption, now brings us a new film in his catalogue, called Assassin’s Bullet, which hits an all-time low. For the aforementioned Mma films, you could make the argument [ Read More ]...

It's a pity that Assassin's Bullet, possibly the first Isaac Florentine film to receive a Stateside theatrical release, happens to be one of his weakest. A martial-artist-turned-filmmaker, Florentine (born Yitzhak Florentin) has carved out a niche in the direct-to-video world as an old-school action director with a knack for choreographing and composing fight scenes. Wide-angles lenses, longish shot durations (by contemporary standards, anyway), and a sense of follow-through are the hallmarks of Florentine's action-directing style—an appreciative aesthetic where every element serves the bodies and movements of the athlete-performers (Florentine's leads are more often than not Mma fighters, more than capable of doing their own stunts).
Originally titled Sofia (as in the city), Assassin's Bullet is a sub-De Palma riff on the Bulgarian capital's status as a popular B-movie shooting location. This identity disorder—Sofia is one of contemporary cinema's most filmed cities, yet rarely plays itself— is personified by...

Christian Slater is out to save the world in “Assassin’s Bullet” (also known as “Sofia”), the former “Pump up the Volume” star’s latest (mostly) direct-to-dvd action movie for “Undisputed” director Isaac Florentine, who is building up quite the filmography in DVDland. (By the way, has it actually been 22 years since “Pump Up the Volume”? I love that movie. Hard Harry forever!) Anyhoo. Check out a trailer, poster, and images from the actioner below, people who enjoy checking out assets from upcoming action movies. So the killer is a woman. I hope that’s not some kind of surprise in the movie cause, well, it’s all over the trailer, isn’t it? When an unknown vigilante begins killing high-priority terrorists from America’s Most Wanted list in Europe, a former FBI field agent (Christian Slater) is brought in by the Us Ambassador (Donald Sutherland) to discover the identity of the assassin.

Illegal immigration is a very serious issue. Every year, numerous foreigners arrive to the United States and violate immigration laws and policies. It is a problem that has and continues to plaque the United States and now this crucial issue is addressed somewhat humorously in the subpar romantic comedy Immigration Tango now out on DVD.
Colombian sex-machine Carlos (Carlos Leon) and Russian beauty Elena (Elika Portnoy) are two romantically involved immigrants living in Miami whose visas are soon about to expire. They are each trying to advance in their respective careers however if they don’t act fast, they will both get deported to their native countries. They then come up with the ridiculous idea to marry their American best friends, couple Mike (McCaleb Burnett) and Betty (Ashley Wolfe). Together these four idealists engage in a truly absurd farce that will either offend or amuse you. Count on the former.

Immigration Tango
Directed By: David Burton Morris
Written By: David Burton Morris, Martin L. Kelley
Starring: Elika Portnoy, McCaleb Burnett, Carlos Leon, Ashley Wolfe
Roadside Attractions
Release Date: February 18th, 2011 (limited)
Immigration is a major hot button topic in this country, which of course makes it the perfect situation to base a romantic comedy around!
Immigration Tango follows two couples -- Elana (Elika Portnoy) and Carlos (Carlos Leon) and Mike (McCaleb Burnett) and Betty (Ashley Wolfe) -- and best friends in Miami. Elana is Russian and Carlos is Columbian -- both in the country on a visa. But when a job interview goes horribly wrong for Elana, immigration is called and she faces deportation.
Pondering any options the group of friends might have, it's decided that there's only one way: American citizens Mike and Betty will play couple swap and marry their foreign best friends so they can both stay in the country.

The plight of illegal immigrants is tremendously complicated, but the bureaucratic difficulties faced by legal immigrants is rarely much of a news story. Still, the concerns that accompany having your life revolve around a country that intends to kick you out still hover in the lives of many residents with green cards. “Immigration Tango” takes on this topic, giving us a look at the complexities of trying to beat the immigration system semi-legally.
In the movie, Elena (Elika Portnoy) and boyfriend Carlos (Carlos Sanchez) are both legal immigrants looking for a way to stay in Miami beyond their visas’ respective expiration dates. Elena is desperate to find a job that will sponsor her, since her visa runs out in just weeks,...
