On September 17, The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (Etaf) honored Billy Porter, Dr. Anthony Fauci, amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, and Sandra Thurman with the Elizabeth Taylor Commitment to End AIDS Award at The Elizabeth Taylor Ball to End AIDS fundraising gala.
Rising singer-songwriter, Jake Wesley Rogers performed at the event. The evening was generously supported by Presenting Sponsor, Gilead Sciences, Inc. Additional sponsors for the event were Diamond Sponsor Bvlgari and American Airlines, Etaf’s official airline.
During his speech, Billy Porter shared, “I came out in 1985. It was at the beginning of the AIDS crisis. We’ve been fighting for our lives ever since and I am proud to stand here, but I will say that in 2007, I had a secret – a secret that was so shameful that I held it in for 14 years. I had all the information, I was supposed to know better, and I got this anyway.

Over three decades ago, Elizabeth Taylor first used her voice and her fame to bring attention to those afflicted with the AIDS virus. When she died in 2011, she left behind a legacy of AIDS activism and using her voice on behalf of those who did not have one. Now, her family, including children Michael Wilding Jr. and Liza Todd-Tivey and grandchildren Quinn Tivey and Naomi Wilding, are continuing her fight as The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation launches an online art auction to benefit its efforts to eradicate the disease

Elizabeth Taylor defined classic Hollywood with Oscar-nominated performances in Butterfield 8, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and more. But the actress found her true passion in advocating for HIV/AIDS.
“She spoke of it as being something that finally gave her a sense of purpose,” Taylor’s granddaughter Naomi deLuce Wilding tells People. “She spoke of being relatively ambivalent about her fame and her acting career. She loved it, but when she found activism, it really made sense of her passion.”

Alexandra Daddario dedicated her birthday on March 16 to raise funds for the United Nations Foundation's Nothing But Nets campaign and The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (Etaf).
The Baywatch star traveled to Malawi this past summer to visit programs supported by the two organizations.
“This year, nothing would make me happier than to donate my birthday to support the communities I met while I visited Malawi,” said Daddario. “Etaf and Nothing But Nets have joined forces to help protect families in Malawi from HIV and malaria, two deadly diseases that cause more than 2 million deaths a year and burden communities around the world. I met so many children and mothers who worry they won’t reach their next birthday, simply because they don’t have access to the medicine and treatment they need. But we can help.”
