More and more new moms are speaking out about the pressure they felt to exclusively breastfeed after giving birth through the non-profit organization Fed Is Best – which, earlier this month, shared the heartbreaking story of 19-day-old baby Landon, who died from accidental starvation.
In a new blog post on the organization’s website, one mom wrote that she was unable to produce breast milk after her daughter Ariya’s birth.
“Nothing was coming from pumping or self-expressing,” she wrote. “I was ashamed to ask for formula in the hospital, but I couldn’t hear her scream anymore – it ripped me...

Breastfeeding mom Jillian Johnson lost her son Landon due to accidental starvation just 19 days after giving birth because he did not get enough colostrum (a mother’s early milk) in the first days of life.
Johnson said she felt pressured to exclusively breastfeed her baby, and she says she was unaware that he became malnourished. Landon went into cardiac arrest from dehydration just 12 hours after being discharged from the hospital, and died 15 days later.
For any breastfeeding mothers, Johnson’s heartbreaking story can be alarming, but infant death from dehydration is rare.

Jillian Johnson lost her son to accidental starvation just 19 days after he was born.

“We had chosen to have Landon in a baby-friendly hospital — that means that everything is geared towards breastfeeding,” she tells People Now. “All the classes that we took, whether it was breastfeeding classes, we had birth classes,...

Just 19 days after giving birth to a healthy baby boy, Jillian Johnson lost her son Landon due to accidental starvation.
“If I had given him just one bottle, he would still be alive,” Johnson writes in a blog post for the non-profit organization Fed Is Best. “If only I could go back in time.”
Fed is Best advocates for safe breastfeeding — including supplementing with formula when medically necessary or strictly formula feeding for those who want or need to — in response to the tragic stories of mothers accidentally starving their babies, according to co-founders Jody Segrave-Daily Rn, and Dr. Christine Del Castillo-Hegyi.

Amy Schumer is putting the U.S. Senate on blast after it failed to pass a series of gun control measures this week. "I am sickened by the cowardice of these people who are supposed to lead us," Schumer told Politico. "Their dedication seems to be only to dollar signs for their own pockets. In November, we will remember who stood with the gun lobby, rather than their constituents, as we mourned for Orlando." The Senate rejected four new gun control proposals on Monday, juts one week after the mass shooting in Orlando that claimed 49 lives. Schumer became an ardent...

Recently, Amy Schumer has made her appearances with her cousin, New York senator Chuck Schumer, to lobby for stricter gun-control measures. The cause has become personal to her after a gunman opened fire during a July screening of Trainwreck in Louisiana. During a set at the Baby Buggy Gala Monday night, the comedian reflected on how her foray into politics revealed just how divisive the issue is. “Nobody really likes when famous people get involved in politics because you’re just like, ‘Eww, shut up, you’re an idiot.’ And you’re like, ‘Okay, you’re right.’ But there was a shooting during one of the screenings of my movie this summer in July in Lafayette, Louisiana, and these two girls, Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson, died, and I was very, very upset,” she explained. While what the Schumers were advocating for was a relatively moderate tightening of gun checks,...

The mass shooting that occurred in a Lafayette, Louisiana movie theater last week during a screening of the Amy Schumer comedy "Trainwreck" falls somewhat outside HitFix's purview -- the story is not, after all, specifically about the film but rather the act of violence that was perpetrated. But Schumer, arguably the breakout star of the summer, is a newsworthy and notable subject on our site (we covered her tweet in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy), and the issue at hand should matter to anyone who can see themselves in Jillian Johnson and Mayci Breaux, the two women who lost their lives after sitting down in the seeming safety of their local movie theater on July 23. This morning, Schumer's skyrocket to mega-fame was utilized in service of a cause that merits the attention of every moviegoer and every American who cares about the chilling regularity of public mass shootings in...

Amy Schumer stuck to her promise of action following the tragic shooting at a screening of her movie Trainwreck last month, officially joining forces with New York Sen. Chuck Schumer to push for tighter gun control.
Schumer joined the senator, who is also her cousin, on Monday during a press conference to unveil a three-part plan that will make it more difficult for violent criminals and the mentally ill to obtain guns.
"We're here today to say enough is enough to mass shootings," Schumer said Monday.
The proposed legislation would create monetary rewards for states that submit all required records to the background check system.
