Actress Marcia Cross turned into a warrior when her husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2009 - because she wasn't about to lose another partner to the disease.
Cross' previous longterm partner Richard Jordan died of a brain tumour in 1993, and the Desperate Housewives star was determined to do all she could to make sure Tom Mahoney beat cancer.
She tells Easy Living magazine, "I didn't let myself think I might lose him. I went through this terrible loss of my first partner, and the second time, I just went straight into action. I was the uber-partner - maid, lover, I did the whole thing.
"I remember thinking, 'Who would have thought that experience the first time would pay off?' If you're going to have cancer, you want me around. I'm good."
But her devotion took its toll, and culminated in an emotional outburst after 12 tough months for the couple.
She adds, "The (emotional) block was so strong, I only started crying a year later... it all came out."
Mahoney has since been given the all-clear.

Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross has weekly therapy sessions to cope with the strain of life in the spotlight.
The actress boasts a master's degree in psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles, but looks for outside guidance to help her through the stresses she faces in life.
She tells Easy Living, "Gosh, yes (I go to therapy). Being able to talk to somebody and hear yourself reflected back is really important.
"We're constantly growing. Life's a spiritual journey. If I have time on a Saturday morning, I try to squeeze (a session) in."
"I've been under so much pressure for so long, now I'm trying to find a little more ease in my life. I'm trying not to stress out about things, and just be in the moment."
Cross has endured a stressful few years - she was placed on precautionary bed rest in 2007 ahead of the birth of her twin daughters, and her husband Tom Mahoney was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. He's since been given the all-clear.

Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross kept a brave face during her husband's cancer battle for the sake of her kids - and refused to tell the twins their father was fighting for his life.
The actress was left devastated when her partner, Tom Mahoney, was diagnosed with the deadly disease last year.
But Cross was determined to remain strong throughout the ordeal, and refused to tell the couple's three-year-old daughters Eden and Savannah.
She tells People.com, "There's no point in telling our kids. They were so young and anything to them is normal, so they didn't know things weren't normal.
"They're enjoying their life. Daddy's fine. It's in the past. He has nothing to say."
Mahoney has since received the all-clear, and the battle has made Cross realise how lucky she is: "My kids are great, work is great, my husband's really, really fantastic. I'm very blessed. All of my dreams have come true."...

Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross isn’t shy about her love for twin daughters Eden and Savannah, 3.
And she shouldn’t be: After a long fertility struggle, the actress and husband Tom Mahoney are savoring every precious moment with their girls — two favorites here at Moms & Babies!
Marcia recently took some time to chat with us about her daughters’ distinctive personalities, their daily routines (they’re in preschool now!) and Tom’s battle with cancer.
How are the twins?
They’re fantastic! They’re 3 years old now, and I joke that they’re going off to college.
