On Monday night, attendees tuned in for the first ever virtual Oceana New York Gala to honor two-time Academy Award-winning actor, author, and activist Jane Fonda and to raise funds in support of Oceana’s campaigns to restore the world’s oceans.
Fonda, introduced by actor and 2019 Oceana New York Gala honoree Diane Lane, spoke about the threat climate change poses to the planet and how by protecting the oceans now, people can help fight back. “We’re scrambling now to save our planet, and the world’s oceans are our biggest ally in this fight. Not enough people understand the essential role the oceans play in combatting the climate crisis,” Fonda told attendees. “Everything depends on our succeeding in saving the oceans.”

“The real reason you’re giving Ted Danson this award tonight is that for more than 30 years he has been at this cause,” President Clinton said. He also spoke about the need to protect ocean ecosystems from the threat of climate change and discussed how healthy, sustainable fisheries can help feed the world’s population.
Ted Danson thanked President Clinton and the assembled crowd for his award. “I kept showing up,” he said. “Everything else was the people around me.”
“This life is not about you or about us,” Danson said. “It’s about stewardship of what we’ve been given.

Anthony Bourdain is raising awareness about a global issue in the trailer for Wasted! The Story of Food Waste.
The prolific chef turned TV personality produces, narrates and appears in the preview for the documentary, which explores the major yet widely unknown sources of food waste, from the farming and fishing industries to supermarket chains and school cafeterias. A lot of what's tossed out is due to lack of demand from the public — until it's trendy, that is.

Born out of the idea of wanting to make a food program that wasn’t a competition or a travel show, filmmaker David Gelb was inspired to create Jiro Dreams of Sushi, the 2011 critically acclaimed documentary film about an 85-year-old sushi master. The success of that film eventually led to Chef’s Table, a docuseries on Netflix now in its third season (debuting online Feb. 17). The series is comprised of “biographical, cinematic films about chefs telling their own stories,” says Gelb, creator and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated show that has quickly fascinated audiences with its previously untold stories of the world’s top chefs and restaurants.
In its first two seasons -- plus a French-language offshoot, Chef’s Table: France -- the Netflix series has featured renowned and award-winning chefs Dan Barber, Gaggan Anand, Grant Achatz, Magnus Nilsson and Massimo Bottura while also shining a light on lesser known personalities, such as Ana...

T-Rex follows the harrowing journey of seventeen year old Claressa “T-Rex” Shields from her small hometown of Flint, Michigan, to London in the summer of 2012, where she is in contention for a gold medal in the newly added women’s boxing event. Although training at the elite level in any discipline is a remarkable feat on its own, Shields’ background, including an alcoholic mother and a father who was in prison for much of her childhood, makes her accomplishments all the more inspirational. And due to USA Boxing rules, her coach and surrogate father is forced to watch her biggest matches from the stands rather than be by her side at the ring. Down to the final five, the stakes are especially high. After Dale (and Angelo’s) shocking eliminations, (boo, Mike!), it’s clear that the chefs are feeling a lot of pressure. A few tears and near breakdowns made that clear this week, as evidenced by the rundown below...
Quickfire Challenge
Padma escorts the chefs to historic Ellis Island, where they’re forced to cook from ingredients found at a ferry food vendor. Not the most glamorous of challenges, but it does force the chefs to think on their feet because they really have nothing to cook with.
Richard has a clever idea to make a Vietnamese bahn mi sandwich, except there are no bahn mi ingredients on a ferry. Antonia cleverly decides to make grilled cheese using a hot dog presser. Mike’s soup looks gross, and Carla uses oranges and rosemary that she found (how?!?) to make a salad.

We are late in the game, and it is getting very serious and very sad... very fast. After Dale's tearful elimination last week, the remaining 5 are feeling the pressure.
Richard misses his friend, Antonia misses her daughter, Tiffany is worried she'll repeat her pre-finale elimination from last season and Carla is being her dear, dear self.
Padma shows up at the "Top Chef" barracks, and everyone knows its serious if she'd come all the way to Brooklyn. She invites them to the roof, where she says they'll be taking the ferry to Ellis Island, where they'll be deported. Just kidding. It's Quickfire time. And now this week's episode title. "Give Us Your Huddled Masses," is starting to make sense.
More like "Give Us Your Nervous Chefses," am I right?
