Let’s get the much-obliged pun out of the way: the new animated adventure-comedy Free Birds is not a turkey of a film. It does, however, follow in the tradition of children-aimed flicks like Hop, an Easter release, and Rise of the Guardians, which earned much of its box-office leading up to the Christmas holiday last year. Yes, Free Birds is yet another film dependent on a tie-in with a holiday for relevancy and a quick buck.
The film starts on a family-owned farm where the blue-faced, small-beaked Reggie lives with a dim-witted flock of turkeys. (Owen Wilson voices Reggie, with a southern twang to tweak his voice so that kids won’t be distracted by how similar he sounds to Lightning McQueen.) Reggie realizes that with the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching, the flock has started to eat tons of corn as they await entrance into ‘turkey paradise.’

Cheryl Ladd is living proof that one of Charlie's Angels also can be Mrs. Santa Claus.
Soon after the classic female-detective show's "Complete Series" DVD release, the actress plays Father Christmas' spouse as Disney's direct-to-video offering "Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups" debuts Tuesday (Nov. 20). The title dogs talk, thanks to a voice cast that includes Richard Kind ("Argo") and Tom Everett Scott ("That Thing You Do!"), but it's hard to steal a movie totally from a Ladd clad as Mrs. Claus.
"I loved the script," she tells Zap2it, "and when I met with the producers, they kind of looked at me and said, 'You know, you're a little out-of-the-box.' I knew mine wouldn't be the first name that came to mind for Mrs. Santa Claus, but they liked the idea of reinventing her and having her with more energy.

For us TVphiles, summer officially starts with the premiere of "America's Got Talent." It's part "American Idol," part "Gong Show," part "The Apollo" and all guilty pleasure. As much as I love a good singer, I'm always excited to see what non-vocal acts the show finds, since we see so much singing on various other shows.
Before we get to the new Season 6 contestants, we take a peek at last year's winner Michael Grimm and runner-up Jackie Evancho, both of whom are busy performing. Michael Grimm's self-titled album dropped just a couple weeks ago and it's not bad. He has a "Simple Man" cover featuring Travis Tritt that is really great, there is also a song called "Gasoline and Matches" that features one of my favorite female vocalists of all time - Ann Wilson. Definitely worth a listen if you haven't checked it out yet. Jackie's album drops this summer...

On Santa Claus' 1600th birthday, he is given a present of a white stuffed toy puppy, which is brought to life to make Santa smile. Santa calls him 'Santa Paws', and promises to be his best friend for eternity.
The other main characters in the film are the orphaned Quinn (Kaitlyn Maher) and Will (Madison Pettis). Quinn's birth mother was a huge lover of Christmas and believing in your dreams, and young Quinn is determined to believe in her mother's dreams and in the Christmas spirit. One of the most touching scenes is of Quinn singing outside her window, which very much reminded me of Oliver's 'Where is love?' as the song is very similar.
Things take a turn for the worst when Santa (Richard Riehle) loses his memory, Paws and his magic crystal which powers his Christmas spirit; without it he will no longer be able to 'be' Santa.

On the surface, Disney’s direct-to-dvd/Blu-ray adventure, Santa Buddies, may have the cringe factor working against it; lovable dogs on the cover wearing Santa caps and looking adorable. It’s enough to make parents want to puke in their stocking with this adventure put on constant repeat. But it’s not, for the most part, an annoying adventure. It’s sweet, cuddly and tinged with the typical message of Christmas that guarantees a favorable response from the children.
Dogs and Disney go together like hot and chocolate so it’s no surprise that the fine people at Disney put out more than their fair share of lovable doggy doo. Unlike its Air Bud predecessors, Santa Buddies is more cartoon than basing its adventure in any sort of kind realism. There is no dog that is “gifted” who becomes a basketball/football/lacrosse/water polo star. Instead, we have a...
