Match #1: Sheamus def. Ivar The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Sheamus’ first match back on Raw was a banger. Picking up where he left off, The Celtic Warrior dropped Ivar with a stunning White Noise from the middle rope as the crowd roared in approval. The Celtic Warrior had his work cut out for him, however, as Ivar nearly squashed Sheamus with a huge splash from the top rope. Sheamus kicked out, screamed at the Viking Raider for more, and hit an epic Brogue Kick to claim a huge win in his return. Monday nights are fight nights, fella!
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: #DIY def. The New Day and The Creed Brothers The following is courtesy of wwe.

Match #1: Ilja Dragunov def. Shinsuke Nakamura The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In a shock befitting the Raw after WrestleMania, Nxt Champion Ilja Dragunov battled Shinsuke Nakamura for the first time ever. With Dragunov declared eligible for the 2024 WWE Draft, The Czar of Nxt looked to showcase his abilities, taking out Nakamura with a Constantine Special. The King of Strong Style used his feet to try to subdue Dragunov, but the Nxt Champion had too much resolve. As the WrestleMania weekend rolls on forward, some of the most anticipated match-ups and WWE gold that was on the line have taken place, and the results of the first night are pouring in with both triumphant victories and disappointing defeats.
But one victory, in particular, has got the fans cheering at the top of their lungs, while experts in the pro wrestling sport have been stunned silent, which was the match between Sami Zayn and The Ring General Gunther.
Sami Zayn and Gunther at the WWE backstage area in a still from Monday Night Raw.
On Saturday, both these superstars entered the ring with the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the line, and by the end, Zayn emerged victorious, holding the belt above his head. This decision, though being adored by fans, is being questioned by experts. More specifically, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier cannot seem to digest this result.

Match #1: Drew McIntyre def. Cody Rhodes The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
With WrestleMania Xl fast approaching, Cody Rhodes is still severely undermanned in his quest to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. The American Nightmare took on Drew McIntyre, but after an incredible back-and-forth featuring a pedigree and an incredible Cody Cutter, Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa arrived and cost Rhodes the win, much to the delight of The Scottish Warrior. After the match, while Rhodes tended his wounds in the backstage area, World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins once again offered his services, leading to a discussion between the two Superstars.

“It Happened One Night,” which premiered at Radio City Music Hall on Feb. 22, 1934, helped usher in the screwball romantic comedy, changed the careers of stars Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, director Frank Capra and screenwriter Robert Riskin and transformed the Poverty Row Columbia Pictures into a major player. And let’s not forget, “It Happened One Night” also made Oscar history winning five major Oscars: picture, director, adapted screenplay and both actor and actress. It would be 41 years before “One Flew of the Cuckoo’s Nest” would accomplish the same feat at the Academy Awards.
Based on the short story “Night Bus,” the smart, endearing road movie focuses on spoiled rotten Ellie Andrews (Colbert) who has gone against her wealthy father’s (Walter Connelly) wishes by marrying the gold-digging King Westley (Jameson Thomas). Clark Gable is the Oscar-winning matinee idol who starred in dozens of films before his untimely death in 1960, but how many of those titles are classics? Let’s take a look back at 12 of Gable’s greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
After appearing in bit parts in a number of films, Gable shot to stardom with his performance in “A Free Soul” (1931) as a gangster who bewitches a young woman (Norma Shearer) whose attorney father (Lionel Barrymore) helped him beat a murder rap. From there forward, the actor’s persona as a raffish leading man who’s every guy’s best friend and every gal’s dream became cemented in a number of subsequent roles.
He won an Oscar just three years later for Frank Capra‘s screwball classic “It Happened One Night” (1934), in which he played a newspaper reporter traveling with a spoiled socialite (Claudette Colbert). The film...

Match #1: The New Day vs. Imperium (Double count-out) The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Kingston and Woods were a house on fire, continuing to pummel Kaiser and Vinci at ringside. The fight was so intense that both teams were counted out. The fight continued with the two teams bombarding each other at the tech area. The brawl did not stop until both teams went crashing through the tech area table!
My Score: 2 out of 5 Match #2: Ivy Nile def. Valhalla The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The 1935 Best Actor lineup at the Academy Awards featured three Oscar newcomers in the forms of Clark Gable, Frank Morgan (“The Affair of Cellini”), and William Powell (“The Thin Man”), with Gable winning. Then came an 88-year gap. It wasn’t until earlier this year that voters nominated another lineup in this category made entirely out of first-time nominees. That list consisted of winner Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) plus Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”), Bill Nighy (“Living”), and Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”).

James Brolin on Wednesday clarified he was mistakenly referring to the 1973 film “The Way We Were” in an interview with Bill Maher in which he said his wife, Barbra Streisand, was working on redoing the ending.
“The Way We Were” is, in fact, being re-released Oct. 17 on Blu-ray for its 50th anniversary, not “Funny Girl.”
Brolin released a statement of clarification to TheWrap.
“To My Wife Barbra and all her fans,” the statement said. “Drinking tequila with Bill Maher on his ‘Club Random’ podcast recently, I mistakenly mentioned the wrong film. I meant to say my wife was working on ‘The Way We Were.‘ Apologies for all the confusion … Jim Brolin.”
Original story is below:
“Funny Girl,” the smash hit that cemented Barbra Streisand’s place in Hollywood at the ripe age of 26, ended with her protagonist, Fanny Brice, separating from her husband after he was released from prison.

f it was the summer of the megawatt blockbusters “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” September has turned into a month of sequelitis with “The Nun 2,” “Equalizer 3” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3.” Even Kenneth Branagh’s “A Hunting in Venice,” is the third installment in the actor/director’s Hercule Poirot mystery series. It’s all a bit of a snooze. That wasn’t the case 70 years ago this month.
There were some oddball films that were released September, 1953 including “Cat-Women of the Moon” with Sonny Tufts and Marie Windsor and “The Sins of Jezebel” starring Paulette Goddard. But 70 years ago, audiences were introduced to a new wide-screen format and young actress who would become one of the biggest stars of the 1950s and ‘60s and Clark Gable returning to a role he originated in 1932.

The last Academy Awards, which saw “Everything Everywhere All at Once” win Best Picture, featured a history-making lineup in the Best Actor category. All five of the nominees were newcomers: Brendan Fraser won for “The Whale” while Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”), Bill Nighy (“Living”), and Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) all reaped their first bids.
That was the first time this happened since 1935 when there were only three Best Actor nominees: Clark Gable (“It Happened One Night”), Frank Morgan (“The Affairs of Cellini”), and William Powell (“The Thin Man”); Gable won. (Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we look at an Oscars category from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winner stands the test of time.)
We are in somewhat of a transitional period with how we think about the acting categories for entertainment awards. This, primarily, has to do with gender. We have had separate categories for female and male performers for decades upon decades, but if you really stop to think about it, there is no difference in what a female actor does compared to a male one. Why shouldn't Colin Farrell in "The Banshees of Inisherin" compete against Cate Blanchett in "TÁR"? Of course, the worry is that in our patriarchal society, men will come to dominate that category and fewer women will be nominated and win. Then you have the added issue of non-binary performers being forced to slot themselves in a particular...

Two week’s after Valhalla smashed Maxxine Dupri through a table, The Alpha Academy neutralized the interfering Viking Raiders outside the ring and paved the way for the recent graduate of Alpha Academy to overcome her ominous adversary with a technically superior finishing maneuver in her first one-on-one matchup.

Match #1: Gunther def. Matt Riddle The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
With the rest of his Imperium teammates barred from ringside, Intercontinental Champion Gunther took on Matt Riddle in a non-title match. Gunther and Riddle traded submission attempts to start the match, with Gunther applying a sleeper hold followed by a triangle hold attempt by Riddle. Riddle’s early momentum was derailed by a huge chop from The Ring General, followed by a body slam onto the mat outside of the ring. As Gunther beat down Riddle, The Original Bro withstood the punishment, attempting to get the victory after a ripcord knee. Gunther did not need Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci with him, defeating The Original Bro a huge Powerbomb.

Nakamura locked in an armbar to try to submit Priest. As Nakamura went for the Kinshasa, Priest evaded, hitting a gnarly clothesline followed by South of Heaven to lock up his first win as Mr. Money in the Bank.

When Twa Flight 3, a twin-engine DC-3 concluding its cross-country route from Indiana to Burbank, California, slammed into Potosi Mountain just outside of Las Vegas in the early evening of January 16, 1942, the movies lost its greatest screwball comedienne.
Carole Lombard was 33 years old, and had just weathered a run of tepidly received dramas to reclaim her stature as one of Hollywood's most dependably hilarious performers via Alfred Hitchcock's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." She was married to Rhett Butler himself, Clark Gable, and had committed herself to the war effort (she'd been in her home state of Indiana to host a war bond rally). As the Writers Guild of America’s negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is about to enter the final week before their contract expires, both sides are hopeful it won’t take a strike to get a deal done. But the WGA’s long battle with the talent agencies showed it can reach agreements with even the most intractable of mega-companies.
Four years ago today, on April 22, 2019, more than 7,000 WGA members fired their agents en masse – a show of solidarity at the start of the guild’s historic two-year campaign to reshape the talent agency business that still is playing out today, emboldening the guild in its ongoing negotiations with the studios for a new film and TV contract.

Few names in Hollywood's illustrious history get people talking quite like Joan Crawford. The legendary actress began her career in silent films before transitioning to sound, and worked for decades, appearing in more than 80 films and television shows. However, the images conjured up of Crawford these days are rarely of her -- instead, they're of Faye Dunaway, who played a diabolical and utterly maniacal version of the actress in "Mommie Dearest," That 1981 film -- based on a shocking book from Crawford's daughter Christina -- changed Crawford's reputation forever and all-too-often erases her stature as one of cinemas greatest stars.
That is nothing short of a tragedy. Few actors could match Crawford's talent, determination, and tenacity. Indeed, even after she retired and then passed away in 1977, very few have matched her prodigious abilities. It can be difficult to look past her domineering facade (especially in a post-"Mommie Dearest" world), but...

The 1962 film, The Misfits, is a western drama by director John Huston and screenwriter Arthur Miller. The movie starred Miller’s wife, Marilyn Monroe, and two big male actors of the time, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. Sadly, the film was marred with tragedy.
What is ‘The Misfits’ about?
The Misfits depicts Monroe’s Roslyn Taber, a beautiful ex-stripper Roslyn Taber in the midst of a divorce. She ends up meeting aging cowboy-turned-gambler Gay Langland, played by Gable, and former World War II aviator Guido Racanelli, played by Eli Wallach.
The two men become smitten with Roslyn and the three decide to move into Guido’s still-under-construction desert home together. When ex-rodeo star Perce Howland arrives, played by Montgomery Clift, the four start a business capturing wild horses.
The Misfits was lauded by critics and fans for the writing and cast performances even if it wasn’t a major hit when it was first released.

Gone With the Wind is an iconic film from the early days of Hollywood, starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. While the movie is still memorable today, it also is controversial. Part of the controversy has to do with the film’s portrayal of Black people and slavery. Another problematic aspect involves what occurred during production. But Gable wasn’t happy with the segregation on set.

Many areas of the country saw segregation in the 1930s, but a few places experienced integration. According to ReelRundown, Lennie Bluett came from an integrated neighborhood in Culver City. He began acting in small roles and became an extra for Gone With the Wind.

Brendan Fraser, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of students at Chapman University, is a widely admired and much-beloved actor whose big screen work spans 30-plus years. In recognition of his 2022 portrayal of a morbidly obese man racing against the clock to reconcile with his estranged daughter in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, the 54-year-old is now, for the first time, an Oscar nominee.
The Los Angeles Times once said of Fraser, “He exudes a masculine and earnest accessibility, a throwback charm that hearkens to an earlier Hollywood era and brings to mind names like Flynn and Gable,” while GQ opined, “He exudes a kind of solid decency and equanimity that makes the implausible plausible. His presence in a scene makes you believe it.” All of this made him into what The Guardian described in 2008 as “one of...

Cary Grant was a one-of-a-kind movie star. Sure, there have been others who have reached his level of fame, acclaim, and stature, but in terms of what made Grant a movie star, there has been no one like him before or since. His ability to seamlessly shift between a Hitchcock noir like "Notorious" to a total goofball comedy like "Monkey Business" remains unparalleled. Add to that his dashing good lucks, tall, athletic frame, and signature mid-Atlantic accent, and you have one of the greatest Hollywood icons of all time, if not the greatest.
For someone with such a distinctly defined movie star persona, his malleability as a performer was rather unusual. In the classic Hollywood era, the major studios were the ones molding stars. They had performers under long-term contracts, allowing them to basically plug in anyone they wished into certain projects. Actors would be paid like regular salaried employees...

Before Frank Capra directed the 1946 classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, he made 1934’s It Happened One Night. It’s a romantic comedy that made Hollywood history as the first movie to perform a “clean sweep” at the Oscars‘ top five categories – Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Director, and Best Writing, Adaptation. Here’s why the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made the right choice.

Oscar-winning actor Clark Gable earned the name of “The King of Hollywood” thanks to his expansive career that spanned more than three decades and several genres. He wasn’t shy when it came to winning an award, but he also had a refreshingly unique take on the meaning behind such an accomplishment. Gable gave away the only Oscar he ever won to a child to teach them a lesson.

It was the evening of February 29, 1940. The 12th Annual Academy Awards were scheduled to be held at the famed Cocoanut Grove nightclub in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, the same facility where Robert Kennedy would be assassinated some 28 years later. But on this night, a different sort of history would be made. Hattie McDaniel, the actress who starred as Mammy, the head slave at the fictional Southern plantation Tara in the Civil War epic “Gone with the Wind,” would accept an Oscar for supporting actress. In the process, she would become the first African American performer to be so honored.

Jim Mahoney was one of Hollywood’s go-to guys. He spent 60+ years in public relations, guiding the images of Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Steve McQueen, Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Christie Brinkley, Peggy Lee, and hundreds more.
He was on the front lines when Frank Sinatra Jr. was kidnapped, and was at the party at Peter Lawford’s house the night Marilyn Monroe died. He was also there with the Rat Pack in Las Vegas.
Now age 95, Mahoney has captured all of that in a memoir, Get Mahoney!: A Hollywood Insider’s Memoir. “Get Mahoney!” was the phrase often used when stars and their handlers knew trouble was brewing and needed to keep their names out of the press. When the 2023 Oscar nominations were announced last Tuesday the 24th, an interesting thing happened. Sixteen of the 20 acting nomination slots were held down by first-time nominees, including all five for Best Actor: Austin Butler for “Elvis,” Colin Farrell for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Brendan Fraser for “The Whale,” Paul Mescal for “Aftersun” and Bill Nighy for “Living.” It was a somewhat stunning development given that all five in the category last year were returnees: Will Smith (“King Richard”), Javier Bardem (“Being the Ricardos”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog”), Andrew Garfield and Denzel Washington (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”).

Pairing wine with movies! See the trailers and hear the fascinating commentary for these movies and many more at Trailers From Hell. This week, we look up, up and away for a trio of flying films. Of course, there are wine pairings for each.
Test Pilot, from 1938, stars Clark Gable, Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy, who were three of Hollywood’s top box office draws of the day. The film was directed by Victor Fleming, who also directed another movie featuring flying, but in this one the house stays on the ground and there are no munchkins in the script. However, a farm in Kansas is involved.
The script, by the way, was based on a story by a real-life pilot who also served as a co-writer. The tale has Gable and Spencer as flyboy buddies with a woman between them. As you might expect, only one of the buddies makes it out alive.

A high-flying crowd pleaser that only the studio system could manufacture, MGM’s Test Pilot was directed by Victor Fleming, written by Howard Hawks, and starred the can’t-miss trio of Clark Gable, Myrna Loy, and Spencer Tracy. Gable plays a reckless flyboy, Loy his down-home sweetheart, and Tracy his true-blue pal. The airborne pyrotechnics and earthbound romance spawned a big box office and several Oscar nominations.

One of the biggest names to come out of Hollywood's Golden Age is Clark Gable. The actor starred in several top-earning films, earned three Academy Award nominations for best actor, and won an Oscar for best actor in 1935. At the height of his popularity from the '30s through the '50s, Gable predominantly appeared in romantic comedies and dramas, capitalizing on his raw machismo, good looks, and boyish charisma. More than just a romantic lead, Gable commanded the screen with a presence ranging from charmingly easygoing to fiercely intense.
With an acting career spanning over three decades, Gable not only starred in some of the biggest movies during his heyday but practically defined Hollywood's Golden Age of cinema through his acclaimed performances. Here are the 14 best Clark Gable movies from the award-winning actor's extensive filmography. Let's dive into his most iconic feature film roles and overlooked classics that showcase...

"The Misfits" would be Marilyn Monroe's final film. The 1961 modern-day psychological Western was ravaged by her physical troubles on-set and the collapse of Monroe's marriage to the movie's screenwriter, Arthur Miller. And the emotional devastation of the movie's plot was reflected by what went on during its making, as Miller, director John Huston, and co-star Eli Wallach hatched a plan to rewrite the movie. The resulting adjustments would have had major consequences, changing the plot to raise Wallach's heroic profile and diminish Monroe's.
Wallach was an old friend of Monroe's from the Actors Studio in New York. According to Les Harding's "They Knew Marilyn Monroe," he credited the actress with getting him cast in "The Misfits," but by the time the movie was being made, something in their friendship had shifted. Beyond the rewrites, he used the movie to execute a couple of practical jokes on her,...

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down this week!
Match #1: Bobby Lashley def. Mustafa Ali The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After Bobby Lashley and Mustafa Ali both called their shots on United States Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins, the two would engage in a scuffle that could only lead to one thing: a match inside the squared circle. Ali took it to Lashley early but The All Mighty was in no mood and dispatched the young upstart with multiple Spinebusters, followed by a gargantuan Spear and a Hurt Lock to force the referee to call the match.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5 Match #2: Mia Yim def. Tamina The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Mia Yim’s first match back was a tough one as she faced off with Tamina. Tamina was...

All leading men are not created equal. This is especially true when it comes to playing a love scene. Clark Gable was a man of action; when he lavished his affections on a woman, he knew they would be reciprocated. Cary Grant's approach was more playful; he used banter as foreplay, and let the woman decide when to take their sparring to the bedroom.
And then there was John Wayne. He was trickier. The Western superstar was adored primarily for his unruffled nature. He was the toughest guy in every scene, and we never truly believed his opponent could lick him or outdraw him. Romance was, at best, a secondary concern for him, but when a woman had her mind set on wooing him, he didn't exactly shoo them away. He might've been stolid, but he wasn't made entirely out of stone.

Welcome to this review of this week’s Monday Night Raw, right here on Nerdly. So let’s get into it and see what went down this week…
Match #1: Finn Bálor & Damian Priest def. Aj Styles & Rey Mysterio The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Judgment Day kicked off Raw with some strong words for Edge heading into Finn Bálor’s “I Quit” Match against The Rated-r Superstar at WWE Extreme Rules. When they switched gears to mock Rey Mysterio and Aj Styles, Rhea Ripley promoted Dominik Mysterio to lay some harsh works at his father. Before long, The Phenomenal One and The Legendary Luchador emerged and cleared the ring of their dark adversaries, Bálor and Priest. In the height of the subsequent tag team contest, Rey became distracted by Dominik outside the ring. This opened up The Master of the 619 to suffer a wicked clothesline at the hands Rhea Ripley.

The world was at war 80 years ago. The United States was grieving over the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 by the Japanese military and the defeat of our forces that month at Wake Island. And then the beloved Carole Lombard, her mother, servicemen and the crew perished in a plane crash west of Las Vegas on January 16, 1942. She was returning to Hollywood after raising 2 million in a war bond drive in Indianapolis.
How would Hollywood and audiences respond to World War II? They certainly didn’t shy away from the war. If you look at the top 10 films of the year, there are some escapist films but also movies dealing with the global conflict.
In fact, the No. 1 film of the year William Wyler’s “Mrs. Miniver” broke records at Radio City Music Hall in New York playing 10 weeks. Production began on the stirring, sentimental drama about a British...
