One of summer’s guiltiest pleasures is no more.
ABC has decided to pull the plug on Mistresses, making the Season 4 finale, which aired on Sept. 6th, now a series finale.
Executive producer Rina Mimoun had told TVLine that she’d hoped for one more season to wrap things up, “There’d be some new hot messes in the mix, and we’d be moving back toward the kind of racy romp that Mistresses was when it began.”
Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen with Mistresses finding the end of the road long before the characters were ready to get out of the car.
That romp included everything from husbands back from the dead, affairs, accidents, threesomes, babies, and murder. The show was a soapy roller coaster ride from beginning to end.
The show was originally based on the U.K. series by the same name but took on a life all its own.

After two seasons, Alyssa Milano left the Mistresses TV show and was replaced by Jennifer Esposito. Now, Esposito has left the series. The ratings have dropped each season but ABC has continued to renew it. What will happen in season four? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season five?
Based on a British series of the same name, Mistresses revolves around the lives and loves of a group of sexy female friends. The current cast includes Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes, Jes Macallan, Tabrett Bethell, Rob Mayes, and Brett Tucker.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Allegedly inspired by true events, but seemingly more inspired by the urban legend of waking up in a bath of ice with an organ removed, The Clinic tells the story of Cameron (Whitfield) and his pregnant fiancee Beth (Bethell) who are forced off the road by a mysterious driver whilst they are on their way to spend Christmas with their relatives. Choosing to spend the night in a sleazy motel rather than carry on with their journey following the late-night accident Cameron goes off to find some food. Like all good (and not so good) horror movies set in a sleazy motel that turn out to be a big mistake. Returning to their motel room he finds Beth, and their unborn baby gone.

The movies teach us many wise things. Chief amongst them: if you need medical attention, avoid every place we're about to talk about...
We’ve all been there. You fall asleep in a seedy motel room only to wake in a sinister medical facility, discovering not only that you have been nocturnally abducted, but also that the baby you were hitherto carrying has been exchanged for a nasty-looking surgical wound nestled neatly below your navel.
This everyday occurrence befalls Tabrett Bethell in The Clinic, the Australian shock-horror that is out now on DVD. And taking its unorthodox medical practice as inspiration, here’s a selection of other medical facilities from the movies that you wouldn’t like to find yourself in.

Director/writer: James Rabbitts.
It is amazing how many first time directors begin in horror. Australian director James Rabbitts is the latest filmmaker to try this genre and succeed. His tale, The Clinic, is a tense time spent with a group of mothers, who are forced into a sort of mommy cage match. The antagonists are many and the film has a lot of advantages going its way. Despite the disposable "based on a true story" label, The Clinic manages to exploit certain innate fears of parenthood, while re-introducing the topic of eugenics into horror.
The plotline begins simply with a couple travelling to Beth's (Tabrett Bethell) parents for Christmas. They have been recently engaged and actor Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) plays the expectant father. This reviewer knew he had seen Whitfield before. That aside, the tension begins early when a blacked out ambulance nearly knocks this couple off the road.

Many will be so heinous they’ll never air; some will impress execs enough that they’ll go to series, only to be axed amidst low ratings; a handful may be lucky enough to last a whole season on-air; and a few may even be popular with audiences and justify a second season. Well, you never know!
Below is a list of 20 pilots that have my interest right now, based solely on their premise or the talent involved. Obviously, it’s unfair to judge these pilots before we’ve seen them, but this is intended to be a quick overview of the positive and negative buzz surrounding them right now.

And they’re off! Casting is all but completed and production has already begun on scores of pilots for the five broadcast networks. But not every comedy and drama will go the distance. Which project has the right stuff? What pilot already has you feeling like you popped a Lunesta? Check out the mammoth slate for fall consideration. (And remember, all projects are whittled down in late April/early May before the nets present their fall slates to advertisers in New York):

Add former “The Tudors” star Natalie Dormer to the cast of ABC’s period crime procedural “Poe”, which will find former “Kings” man Christopher Egan playing the titular horror writer, who also happens to be “the world’s first detective” in Boston during the 1840s. That imagination should come in handy when he starts investigating bizarre crimes that, one presumes, leaves the “regular” cops baffled. Dormer will play a character name Celeste, though who Celeste is or what she does, is currently unknown. She joins a cast that already includes Kevin McNally, “Legend of the Seeker’s” Tabrett Bethell (playing Poe’s “muse”), and Leslie Odom Jr. as Poe’s forensics partner. The show is from producer/writer Chris Hollier, with Alex Graves directing the pilot.

When I heard about ABC’s “Poe”, it intrigued me. Mostly because I’m very curious to see how they approach this period crime-solving show. Will Poe be super smart like Sherlock Holmes? Or will the show be more of an “X-Files” type given Poe’s, well, reputation? We’ll find out soon enough when the show arrives on ABC. Until then, TVline has former “Kings” star Christopher Egan (left) landing the main lead on the show. He joins Tabrett Bethell (below, formerly of the now-canceled “The Legend of the Seeker”), who is playing “Poe’s muse”. Not sure what that means, but a combination of lust and fascination may be involved. Lenore, perhaps? Previously, Leslie Odom Jr. (“CSI: Miami”) had been cast as Julian “Jupiter” Noble, a doctor at a free clinic who lends his forensics skills to help Poe with his mysteries. “Poe” will be set in 1840s Boston,...

Chris Egan is set as the lead in ABC's drama pilot Poe. The project, from Warner Bros. This week's Hot Babe is a little on the disturbing side, but HBotW is not just to celebrate the hot women and nudity in horror films, it's also a way to learn about movies that have slipped under our radar, like Someone's Knocking at the Door). The Australian film, The Clinic, is also one of those films. It looks and sounds a little like 2008's Inside. The film follows a pregnant woman who "wakes up in an isolated clinic to a mother's worst nightmare." Tabrett Bethell (Legend of the Seeker) plays the pregnant victim, in what looks like to be a very disturbing film.

Just as Glee came forward to address the niche audience dying to see more musically-inclined shows on television, Legend of the Seeker took up the mantle of appeasing fantasy fans with its weekly installments of magic and epic quests. It’s no Middle Earth, but it goes a long way towards filling the hole left by the exit of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess years ago. And wouldn’t you know it, just like with those two predecessors, Sam Raimi has a hand in Legend as well; but almost as if in spite of Raimi’s involvement, the show foregoes camp to try and be an honest to god fantasy epic. It succeeds in a few important ways, but the final product ultimately feels flat, due in large part to writing that feels like it came from the fan-fiction journal of a failed dungeon master.

An unfortunate, recent loss, Legend of the Seeker only made it through two seasons, and the DVD release of the second and final season is now available. Based on the popular Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, and starring Craig Horner, Bridget Regan, and Bruce Spence, the show seemed to take off pretty well, but didn’t quite hold onto enough viewers by the time we got to a season three decision.
Though squarely in the realm of such syndication “classics” as Hercules and Xena, there was some clear progression at work with this one, focusing as it did on rather more creepy and unnerving subjects, and (eventually) putting a good deal less “goofy” in its comic relief.
The second season kicked things up a notch, as defeat of one evil led to a quest to defeat supernatural evil, and there was a lot less time for the show’s fun side.

Fuquay-varina - It was a speedy two days with major stars dropping into my neighborhood.
On a Thursday night the man who made predicted FedEx arrived at a Durham library. Mister McFeely (David Newell) still fits in his Speedy Delivery uniform and hat as he greeted Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood fans of all ages. Most of the ages were under seven. Luckily I had brought along a little kid in order not to stick out.
McFeely was at the end of a weeklong tour around the state to touch base with the kids. Lately whenever any star of kid focused tv shows comes to town, it’s part of some over inflated media spectacular stage show at the sports arena. There’s singing, dancing, indoor fireworks and motorcycle stunts meant to dazzle a three year old. Plus there’s a $18 convenience charge on the tickets. But this was not McFeely’s type of entertainment.

The latest is the Australian poster for The Clinic, the debut feature by James Rabbitts which is having its world premiere at Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in Korea later this month before screening at MIFF2010 and Film4 Frightfest in August.

Beth wakens in an ice bath in an abandoned abattoir. Her baby has been removed from her. After searching for a way out she is found by three other young women all in the same predicament.
