[This recap of Friday (October 3) night's "The Amazing Race" may be a bit rushed. I've got some Yom Kippur atoning to do. But I still want to do some honor to a decent enough Leg.] As you may have heard from a unshaven, drunk, pot-belled WWII era manager, there is no crying in baseball. Nobody has ever made the same claim about "The Amazing Race." In actuality, there's a lot of crying on "The Amazing Race." And I'm not entirely without understanding. Let's say you're an "Amazing Race" superfan and you've actually taken the time to study Race strategy and accumulate some of the skills that normally pay dividends and then you find yourself actually on "The Amazing Race" and in only your second Leg, you find yourself falling victim to a semi-unavoidable combination of current and lack of upper-body strength? I guess I can allow for some sniffling, especially if your commitment to remaining in...

Whether you love them or wish they'd stop talking about Dave's age, his Achilles and the evils of Brendon & Rachel, you can't deny that Dave & Connor were deserving winners for this "Amazing Race: All-Stars" season. After having to self-eliminate from their first season after Dave's injury, the father-son team won a whopping six Legs -- they'll be taking tropical vacations together for years to come -- and never really faced any serious jeopardy. Did they do anything impressive in that Final Leg to win? Not really. But they got to Phil Keoghan first and that's all that matters. In the process, they became the first parent-child team to win "The Amazing Race" and Dave, as he mentioned so frequently, became the oldest individual winner. In their exit interview, which finally concludes my spring reality exit interviews, Dave & Connor discuss their comfortable "Amazing Race" triumph, Dave talks about his age and...

Does anybody still remember the "Amazing Race: All-Stars" finale? My apologies. I'm apologizing both for how long it took me to get to these exit interviews -- Last week was a bear -- but really I'm apologizing because you still remember what was almost certainly the dullest finale in the 24-season history of the Emmy-winning juggernaut. Brendon & Rachel probably haven't forgotten the finale. That's because they made it all the way to the last Leg of "The Amazing Race" for the second time and, once again, finished in third. And this time, they didn't really do anything wrong. They got a bad cab driver. Yes, they got a little bit lost wandering around the Mirage in Las Vegas, but they were already behind the other two teams entirely because of their cabbie in a Leg that didn't feature a single challenge that allowed teams to wreath themselves in any glory at all.

"Amazing Race" host Phil Keoghan really wants to do an "Amazing Race" reunion. I mention this, because in the two times I've talked to Keoghan in the past couple years, that is the only repeated point. "Survivor" has reunions after each season and Keoghan would like "The Amazing Race" to follow suit. Keoghan and I got on the phone last week to discuss the upcoming conclusion to "The Amazing Race: All-Stars," a season that is heading towards its conclusion on Sunday (May 18) night with Jen & Caroline, Brendon & Rachel and Dave & Connor still in the running for the big prize. We talked about the biggest story lines surrounding each of the remaining teams. Is Dave's quest to become the oldest "Amazing Race" winner a notable one? Are Brendon & Rachel capable of actually being underdogs? And should we be dismissive of the Country Blondes because of the amount of assistance they've gotten from other teams?...

Where have all the Cowboys gone? Well, on last week's "Amazing Race: All-Stars," they were U-Turned by Afghanimals Leo & Jamal, forcing them to perform a second Detour in Seville and effectively eliminating Jet & Cord for the third time on the CBS reality favorite. With their high spirits, stubborn independence and frequently faulty sense of direction, Cowboys Jet & Cord have long been favorites for "Amazing Race" fans and this latest season was no different. As the other teams bonded and bickered, the Cowboys continued to be Lone Rangers and, as usual, that worked out pretty well for them. Jet & Cord won the season's first Leg (and promptly handed over their second Express Pass to Jen & Caroline who, miraculously, remain in the Race) and added one first and four second place finishes. That put a big target on them, which is why Leo & Jamal U-Turned them, rather than sticking with their...

As I interview The Globetrotters, they're doing what they do best: Trotting the globe. Nate "Big Easy" Lofton and Herb "Flight Time" Lang were eliminated from "The Amazing Race" All-Stars" on last Sunday's episode. It was the third time they've been on "The Amazing Race" and the third time they've gone home without winning, which you'd think would sting for a pair of basketball players who, by nature of their professional affiliation, never lose. Actually, you probably wouldn't think that if you've paid attention to Flight Time & Big Easy, who have earned the right to compete thrice on "Amazing Race" by virtue of their unflagging enthusiasm and their eagerness to entertain both viewers at home and every passer-by at every international location. Flight Time & Big Easy like to make people smile when they're on "The Amazing Race" and when they're not being followed by CBS cameras, they're usually still on the road making people smile.

If you ask me for a preference between Country Blondes Jennifer and Caroline, I'll always go with punchy, pint-sized Caroline, she of the reliable zingers and ace comic timing. But Jennifer had the smartest observation in Sunday (March 30) night's "Amazing Race." Musing on why this season has been difficult, Jennifer noted, "Nobody makes mistakes." That's not exactly true. Natalie & Nadiya couldn't find a wedding dress shop in China over several hours and they went home. Mark & Mallory went back to get Mark's bag and they went home. Joey & Meghan didn't tell their driver to stay at a Roadblock and they went home. And last week, Margie & Luke couldn't get tickets for a good flight leaving Kuala Lumpur and they went home. At least in the early-going of this "All-Stars" season, it hasn't been that nobody's been making mistakes, but it's certainly been the case that, generally speaking, it's been nearly...

On Sunday (March 23) night, Margie & Luke had one of those rough "Amazing Race" Legs that happen every couple seasons. They started near the back of the pack and after an unfortunate flight situation they were in dead last as they reached Sri Lanka, many hours behind the other teams. Even though Brendon & Rachel faced a SpeedBump in the Leg, Team "Big Brother" made a successful travel gamble and pulled even with the other teams. Margie & Luke never got close enough to even see another team at a challenge, much less stick around. That actually made for a relaxed Leg for the mother/son team, who were in their third tour of "Amazing Race" duty. They needed it after a rough last Leg in Kuala Lumpur, where a bartending Detour frustrating Luke, who couldn't attempt the alternative DJing Detour because he's deaf. "We had a long time to process that we were going to be eliminated," Margie tells TVGuide.com. "We accepted it, but we were sad." Sunday (March 23) night's installment of "The Amazing Race" came down to one decision made in the first 15 minutes of the episode. I'm not saying there was a "right" answer or a "wrong" answer in the moment, but the choice was made early and once it was made -- incorrectly, as it turned out -- there was nothing left to the episode and what followed was a 45-minute anti-climax. That's too bad, because this was perhaps the first episode of the season that was well-structured in terms of Detours and Roadblocks, featuring difficult tasks that had the chance to shake things up in terms of team placement. I write "had the chance to," because they didn't. This week's Top 4 was last week's Top 4. And last week's Top 4 was 3/4ths of the previous week's Top 4. We've had five Legs so far, which means 20 Top 4 finishes. The teams now in the Top 4 have *15* of those finishes.

Clearly the most exciting part of this episode was Margie and Luke and Brenchel's tough decision to layover in Singapore or try for a standby ticket, options that could pay off immensely well or completely blow their lead. It certainly makes sense for Margie and Luke to play their chances with the standby line. But by standing still, Brenchel got ahead and the mother/son duo were left in the dust. The teams who survive on The Amazing Race are those who constantly move forward. And just like the tiny fish who took a break in the Detour challenge, those who stand still will be quickly stabbed away from the competition.

This week's fourth episode of the "The Amazing Race" turned out to be the first of two non-elimination legs this season. So, while you won't rack up points for predicting which of the remaining weight teams would be eliminated, you still score them for telling us who made it to the finish line first (Cord and Jet), whether they used their Express Pass (they didn't) and if there was a U-Turn (there wasn't). -Break- Overall, our odds predicted that first place finish by Cord and Jet. However, we had Margie and Luke reaching the finish line last just behind Brendon and Rachel; that order was reversed in reality. As this was a non-elimination leg, the newlyweds will have to complete an extra task next week. Congratulations to alex movieland who scored an impressive 908 points with his predictions. Savvy placement of the bonus 100 points gave him the edge over Magic 8 Ball.

Mark it down: On Sunday, March 16 at somewhere around 8:50 p.m. Et, after annoying seasons of “Big Brother” and four episodes into their second season of “The Amazing Race,” I found myself liking Brendon & Rachel. Look, I’m not proud of myself and it really didn’t last for very long -- perhaps only a minute, in fact -- but this blog is about nothing if it’s not about absolutely honesty. So if I ever try saying, “I’ve always hated Rachel & Brendon,” you can now call me a liar, because there it was, the moment that I warmed to Brendon & Rachel. And that totally justifies their presence on this “All-Stars” season of “The Amazing Race.” No? Oh well. Did it at least justify Sunday’s episode of “The Amazing Race”? No, again? Oh well. [Full recap of Sunday’s Leg after the break...] Actually, Sunday’s Leg wasn’t bad, once you accepted the inevitability of the result.

The couple you love to hate -- Brendon and Rachel -- are the likeliest to reach the mat last in this week's fourth leg of "The Amazing Race" according to predictions made so far at Gold Derby. They have even odds (1/1) to be bounced from the race in this Sunday's episode, 'Smarter, Not Harder.' Margie and Luke, the mother and son team who have lost this race twice, have odds of 17/10 to be eliminated while newlyweds John and Jessica are third likeliest to lose, with odds of 7/2. -Break- Last week, Brendon and Rachel finished in eighth, just ahead of Joey and Meghan while Jessica and John were in seventh. Jennifer and Caroline, who you had predicted would be eliminated, finished in sixth while Margie and Luke came fourth. There's still time before "The Amazing Race" airs for you to make your predictions here and wager points against the current odds.

I suppose that certain factors on "The Amazing Race" are out of the control of the producers. If your teams are in China and you're determined to get them to Malaysian Borneo, if there are only two evening flights, there are only two evening flights. And if there's a three-hour gap between the arrival of the two flights, then there's a three-hour gap between the arrival of the two flights. And if there are only six tickets available on the first flight or perhaps only three tickets available on the second, then that's just what it is. But if you then design a Leg in which the Roadblock is a straight-forward one-at-a-time task and the Detour includes at least one option that requires basically no effort at all, you've constructed a Leg in which six teams have almost limitless margins-for-error and the other three teams have no margin-for-error at all...

Normally the first team eliminated on "The Amazing Race" ends up being pretty anonymous, because it's just too hard for producers to give quality time to so many players in a crowded premiere episode. Say what you want about All-Star seasons or the specific All-Stars this season, but very few people were ambivalent about Twinnies Natalie & Nadiya Anderson, who earned fans and haters alike for their first season, which included a contentious money incident, some smart U-Turn strategy and lots and lots and lots of yelling. On Sunday's "Amazing Race" premiere, though, only the yelling was in evidence and even that was half-hearted after a while. Natalie & Nadiya got an early advantage getting on the first of two flights to China, but struggles in a wedding district saw them fall from first to last. By the time they started bickering at the top of the Canton Tower over ferris wheel cars,...

Season 24 of "The Amazing Race" started on Sunday (February 23) night with an episode that inverted the show's ideal momentum. There was a shocking, sad and emotional twist before we got to the opening credits, but then 50 minutes later, the episode concluded without any cursory effort at creating suspense or tension. And the editors couldn't have created tension even if they wanted to, as the "All-Stars" season began with a purely designed Leg featuring two needle-in-a-haystack -- not especially big haystacks, either -- plus a Roadblock that failed to inject even an iota of difficulty into the game. For a season that was already plagued by skepticism regarding the "favorite" status of several of the team selections, this was not an ideal premiere, now was it? I'd love to have more to talk about from Sunday's hour, but it wasn't well-suited for recapping, either. I'll do my best after the break,...

If you don’t like this season of The Amazing Race, we can’t be friends.
We’re just six episodes, only four official legs, in to the 18th season of The Amazing Race and I’m already satisfied. Every leg has been competitive. This leg was no exception. All of the teams are funny, interesting to watch and good competitors. I’m not even rooting for Ron and Christina’s demise anymore, as I once was.
As an avid watcher of reality shows I can say that an All-Star-esque season always seems to work. Survivor is three-for-three in different iterations of the idea (four-for-four if you want to count this season).
The Amazing Race hit a home run with its first run at an All-Star season and this version has been better.

Call me a sentimental fool. Call me a mama’s boy. Call me somebody who takes my reality television a little too seriously. You’d be right on all counts. But call me the only person who got a little choked up at the end of Sunday night’s edition of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business, and I’d call you crazy misinformed.

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race - Episode 6.
The preview for this week’s episode of The Amazing Race teased a major meltdown by Luke at one of the tasks for this leg of the Race. Could I actually be that lucky? To have the ultimate Mama’s Boy eliminated on the same day as the North Carolina Tar Heels were bounced from the Ncaa Tournament? Let’s find out.
My Random Thoughts:
- In my first recap of the season, I said that I would be doing a season-long “Goth Count”, to see how often Kent and Vyxsin said the word “Goth.” Well, we’re six episodes into this season, and we still haven’t heard it yet, so I’m tossing it aside. Kent, I know you’re reading, and I tip my hat to you: your efforts to make...

"The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business" sent home Margie and Luke on Sunday, March 27. The duo were the last to arrive at the pit stop in India after they got troubles finding the same tea they tasted earlier at Zhan Tea Shop in China.
After joining a traditional tea tasting, the teams headed off to Kolkata and got their next clue at Town Hall. Their first task was to identify the tea that they tasted earlier (the flavor of which is papaya and mango). Ron found the tea he wanted easily by sniffing them, moving on with Christina to the Tiwari Tea Stall to get the next clue.
In the meantime, Luke almost gave up the tea test after sipping some cups and still could not find the right one. Margie asked him to finish it, convincing him that he would regret it if he did not finish the task. After trying it again several times,...

Unlike the globe that it’s trotting, the current season of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business has been disappointingly flat over the course of its initial five episodes. Sure, Mallory’s scream-and-grunt approach to the game never ceases to make me chuckle, and I’ll also admit I’m glad that the cowboys righted their ship and would up checking in first to this week’s pit stop. But for some reason, Tar‘s typical clutch-the-couch-cushion thrill has been muted for me during this all-star edition.

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 5
Last week’s episode of The Amazing Race ended with seven teams continuing on in the Race after the Pit Stop, Zev and Justin still working on the final task, while Kent and Vyxsin tried to convince a speeding bus to turn around so they could look for their fannypack, which they left behind.
A lot of people have commented that they don’t like the “double legs” that we’ve been seeing so far this season. I actually like them, and think it’s a nice change to see the teams have to keep going without being able to rest. These teams have all done the Race before, and I’m all for making it as hard as possible for them this time around. However, if we end up seeing a double leg turn into a Non-Elimination leg, that will piss me off.

I pity the poor editor in charge of trying to inject a little suspense into Sunday night’s installment of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business. I mean, with Goth/Sims people Kent and Vyxsin misreading their compass, driving wildly off course, and missing a mandatory flight from Japan to China, they were at a five-and-a-half-hour deficit before a single task had been completed. “It really is a million-dollar question,” said Zev, wondering where his competitors had gone. “Either they’re on a kabuki show or super, super lost.” Kent and Vyxsin eventually made up a ton of ground — I’m...

"The Amazing Race", for the second time this season, aired a continuation leg on Sunday, March 13 but it looks like dating goths Kent and Vyxsin may face a bitter truth next week. By the time the episode was wrapped, they were in a huge mess for they lost their fanny bag, containing money and passports, and missed the "required flight".
Preview for next week's episode shows the couple backtracking their steps with Kent thinking they left the bag in the gondola. "We'll never see that bag again," skeptical Vyxsin said during the bus ride. Nevertheless, another team, Zev and Justin, were also still out on the course and have not stepped on the matt.
In the meantime, Margie and Luke came as number one and won a trip to Aruba. Since the race has not stopped, they received the next clue which directs them to Kunming, China.

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 4.
In last week’s Amazing Race recap, I talked about the unfairness of the penalty that was handed to Flight Time and Big Easy. Not that it was undeserved, but that the way it went down was unfair. If it was an offense that warranted a penalty, then it should have been assessed when The Globetrotters hit the mat, not after Ron and Christina whined about it to Phil.
Again, it's not the point That they got penalized, but When they got penalized. It's like driving by a police officer doing 75 in a 65 zone, and not getting a ticket...but later he gives you the ticket because the guy behind you said you were doing 75 in a 65. Ridiculous. I'm surprised it wasn't addressed in this episode.

Last week, Mel and Mike were eliminated in Tokyo. This week, teams will travel to Jade Dragon Mountain (that's a real place!) in China. Ze and Justin leave first, followed by Gary and Mallory and Ron and Christina. Ron and Christina speak Chinese, and have already been to Lijiang, China.
Kent and Vyxsin want to have a Pma (Positive Mental Attitude) but have trouble finding, then unlocking their car. Their Pma is destroyed before they even reach the airport. Jaime and Cara do not remember China fondly, and Margie and Luke remember their troubles with Kisha and Jen. All the teams show up at Narita Airport, except for Kent and Vyxsin. Vyxsin has basically lost her mind. It's trouble in Italy all over again. But according to Kent, The Amazing Race is also about miracles.

This week's episode of The Amazing Race began as the teams disembarked from a train to Sydney to take a flight to Tokyo. There were two choices: take a direct flight to Tokyo arriving at 6:15 or take a flight with a connection in Hong Kong arriving 15 minutes earlier. Although the connecting flight was riskier, five teams (including Mel and Mike) decided to take the flight through Hong Kong. Realizing that they comprised one of the least athletic teams in the race, Mel and Mike decided to take the risk of the connecting flight to shave 15 minutes off. After all: No risk, no reward.
But then sometimes you take a risk, and you still get bupkis. The connecting flight had engine problems and was delayed 90 minutes in Hong Kong. Said Mike, “It was a dog fight for last.”
The teams picked up miniature Japanese cars, which the Globetrotters could barely fit into,...

My dad will never give up and that’s why sometimes you have to give up for him.
Boooo, Mike, boooo!
Ok, I get it. Mel is 70 years old and probably should not be wallowing around in the mud in 30 degree weather for hours on end wearing a diaper. Mike quitting for his father this week was a totally different scenario. One I can not approve of.
Had Mel been the one to give up because of his age, everyone would have understood. It certainly was crazy for a 70 year old man to be rummaging around in mud at night. But, he didn’t! Mike gave up first and then pressured his father in to quitting when he didn’t want to. Mel even had a great quote about it:
Better to die here with you than home in bed.
Amen, Mel, we love that spirit. Sadly, your son, 30 years your junior,...

After two pretty solid episodes to open the season, The Amazing Race amped things up during Sunday night’s episode, an hour that featured time penalties, flight delays, and a medical emergency that knocked a team out earlier than their time to go.
One of the main things I noticed about the show was that people’s roles are getting more defined as we go along. I came into this season only being familiar with a few teams, so the first couple of episodes did nothing to really give me teams to root for and teams to root against. But man did that ever change after tonight. First off, how awful are the Globetrotters? I mean, seriously. It’s not enough that they didn’t have a map during the Bottom Feeder Caravan, choosing again to piggyback off the work of other people, but they disingenuously “paid back” Zev & Justin...

In last week’s Amazing Race recap, I commented on the ridiculous kangaroo outfits the teams had to wear, and said “I'm sure that Kisha & Jen, Luke & Margie, and Jaime & Cara all had no problem with them, because at least they weren't running around St. Petersburg in their underwear in the winter like last time.”
Remember when Tar went through that phase, where seemingly every other challenge had teams stripping down to their skivvies for Detours and Roadblocks? From winter jogging, to playing giant golf in the wind, to the incredibly awkward “SaunaBuss” (remember That one?), to the Estonian mud volleyball…it seemed like Bertram van Munster just wanted the teams stripping down all season long?

The episode started off with the Cowboys still struggling with the word puzzle. While everyone had sailed off after reciting the pass phrase, "I am between the devil and the deep blue sea," Jet and Cord were still between furrowed brows and frustrated drawls of "Son of a buck!"
All of the other teams had sailed through the bay and had already received the next clue, which instructed them to head back to Sydney and look for "To Sail To Stop," a sculpture of an anchor next to Sydney's Town Hall. The first six teams to find it would be placed on an earlier charter flight to a small mining town a few hundred miles from Sydney. The remaining teams would be placed on a later flight.
Some of the teams climbed into cabs back to Sydney to look for "To Sail to Stop." Kisha and Jen's cabbie drove...

After going out of Season 14 of The Amazing Race thanks to a U-Turn (by Margie and Luke), Amanda Blackledge and Kris Klicka, 27, met the same fate on Unfinished Business, becoming the first team to get eliminated after incurring an automatic U-Turn and falling behind on the second half of a double leg in Australia. "I wouldn't say it's harder to swallow because it's our own fault," Amanda, 25, tells TVGuide.com. "It's not like it's easier blaming other people. Yeah, Margie and Luke U-Turned us last time, but I don't think it's anyone's fault when you're eliminated — last time or this time." Find out how far behind the couple was, why it took them so long to get to Town Hall, and if they'd run the Race again.

It can’t be easy being the first evictee from a reality show, but to have to do it while wearing giant kangaroo costumes seems like a double indignity. Alas, last night’s installment of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business gave us this exact scenario, when a pair of exhausted marsupials hopped up to the finish line only to get the ultimate bad news from a somber Phil Keoghan.
Things started off right where we left off last week: With 10 teams hitting the first pit stop and discovering that there’d be no rest, the race continued onward with a four-word clue,...

What do you get when you combine kangaroo outfits, moon shoes, paint spitting, green bunnies, fancy dancing, steakhouses, cranky dads, injured dads, magpies, ground mosaics, and an awful sense of direction?
Why, you have a pretty solid second episode of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business. Duh.
Tonight was the second half of the first leg of the race and it was surprisingly entertaining. Any two part episode, whether it be reality or drama, tends to have parts that drag and while this wasn't the most exciting episode in the history of the show, I was into it from start to finish.
The main thing to take from "I Never Looked So Foolish In My Entire Life" is that the race can change over the most minute thing (sort of the theme for this season, really); in this case, it was finding an anchor beside town hall in Sydney with the...

Ok, everyone, we can all take a big sigh of relief; Jet and Cord survived the first leg. Everyone ready? One, two, three…
Ahhhhh!
Heading in to this week’s episode of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business, the finale of a very long first leg, Jet and Cord were waaaaaay behind 10th place Kent and Vxysin. The dating Goths themselves were told by Phil that they were waaaaay behind ninth place Mike and Mike. Safe to say, things did not look good for everyone’s favorite cowboys advancing to the second leg.
Despite the huge deficit, we received great news that after meeting Phil at the faux Pit Stop, the teams had to race to become one of six teams on the first flight or five teams on the second flight which departed 30 minutes later. Hurray! There’s no way Jet and Cord can’t catch up to at least four teams,...

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 2.
Last week’ s season premiere of The Amazing Race ended with the teams still racing, and no one being eliminated at the Pit Stop mat with Outback Phil. This week, all 11 teams continued on their trek through Australia. Would the Cow-bros be able to overcome the huge gap that was created last week? Who is on the verge of passing out? And why are the teams dressed like Kangaroos?
My Random Thoughts:
- First of all, I need to point out that I have an issue with this season being called "Unfinished Business." Yes, I understand that all of the teams are back for a second shot at the million dollars, but only one of these 11 teams are going to "finish" their "business" by winning the race. Know what I mean?

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 1.
A new season of the Amazing Race is off and running, and as many of you know by now (and as was first reported here back in December), this season is sub-titled Unfinished Business, with 11 teams returning for another shot at the million dollars. I’ll reiterate my initial response to the Cast List: why are we seeing only teams from Season 12 onward? Nobody from the first 11 seasons warranted an invite?
To the returning readers, Welcome back! It’s nice to see you again. And for those of you new to my Amazing Race Recaps, a hearty welcome as well, and a couple of things you should know: a) the recaps should be up within 30 minutes (often less) of when the show ends on the East Coast, b) the pictures will all have hidden captions underneath, so make sure to...
