YouTube Space La was recently overtaken by Skynet, but in a good way. The venue played host to a Terminator-themed campaign involving several popular YouTubers like Olga Kay and Lilly Singh (or IISuperwomanII to the online video masses).
The Terminator campaign shoot took place over three days. In addition to Kay and Singh, YouTube brought in Woody Tondorf of Machinima, Toby Turner, and Matthew Santoro to film promotional videos for the upcoming Terminator: Genisys film from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. YouTubers Richard Ryan (RatedRR), Joe Penna (MysteryGuitarMan), Kevin Lieber (Vsauce2), Epic Lloyd, and Jack Douglass of Jacksfilms also made cameo appearances.
Kay told Tubefilter Arnold Schwarzenegger even showed up to contribute to the campaign. “There were at least 100 people in the lobby when Arnold arrived on set. I've never seen Youtube Space La being so silent,” Kay said in an email. “Everyone was taking in the Terminator power.

When Machinima announced the re-launch of its Machinima Prime channel, execs promised a return to the network's roots. Sure enough, the first original series from the new Prime is a classic combination of video games and comedy. It's called Dr. 1Up, and it stars Noel Carroll as the titular doctor, who provides medical advice to video game characters. Each episode features a diagnosis of a famous video game character. In the debut, Solid Snake arrives at Dr. 1Up's clinic and learns that 30 years of nonstop cigarette consumption has caused him to contract aggressive lung cancer. He doesn't seem to mind, because he's too busy hiding in boxes and launching into 30-minute long soliloquies. Meanwhile, the doctor's receptionist (played by Bree Essrig) hatches a plan to get the stars of The Last of Us to stop annoying her. Dr. 1Up was written by Woody Tondorf (who is co-leading Machinima Prime's return...

The first all-new original program to launch on the re-branded Machinima Prime, Dr. 1Up is visited each week in his office by the biggest and most fearsome names in the video game world - including Master Chief (Halo), Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) and Nathan Drake (Uncharted), Raiden (Mortal Kombat), and much more - so he can treat each character's ailments. Dr. 1Up is directed by Ukrainian Yuri Baranofsky (Break A Leg, The Temp Life, Leap Year) and written by Woody Tondorf (The Morning After, The Dark Knight Legacy). The series stars Noel Carroll as Dr. 1Up, YouTube personality Bree Essrig as Nurse Janet and Haley Mancini (Most Popular Girls In School, Smosh's 16 bit High, Mad Men) as Dovahkiin. Additionally, each episode will feature notable actors and YouTube personalities including Inside Gaming Host Adam Kovic who plays Master Chief and premiere voiceover star Matthew Mercer (Attack on Titan, Destiny, Arkham Origins,...

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Eight days after it began as a dark, exciting fan film, Machinima's Dark Knight: Legacy Indiegogo campaign is no more after a cease-and-desist letter arrived from Warner Bros. The proposed web series, which hoped to center around DC Comics' Nightwing character, was already well on its way to its funding goal when Warner Bros. ordered it shut down for infringing copyright; the studio plans to release a new Batman film starring Ben Affleck in 2015. For more details, we wrote to Dark Knight Legacy co-creator Woody Tondorf, who penned us an eloquent response about the cease-and-desist notice and what he and his colleagues plan to do next. We have reprinted it in its entirety below: "There's really not much to say about what happened. We went looking for funds for a franchise we didn't own and the people who owned the characters told us to cut it out,...

(Cbr) Devotees of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy — particularly those who hoped a follow-up might center on Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake — may find a lot to enjoy in "The Dark Knight Legacy", a seven-minute fan film that debuted this morning on Machinima. Directed by Brett Register from a script by Woody Tondorf and Chris Landa, the short picks up a year after the events of The Dark Knight Rises, as Blake (as Nightwing) tries to “protect the symbol of Batman from the lethal, relentless attacks of a masked vigilante known only as the Red Hood.” (Fan-favorite character Stephanie Brown also...

While we have to wait a few more years to find out how the casting pans out, there's one thing that a Ben Affleck Batman does signal: no more appearances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Robin John Blake.
Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" concluded with Blake as the heir to Bruce Wayne's Bat-mantle, a development that would surely have led to a very interesting—and very different—status quo for Gotham City. But with Batman's fate now firmly tangled up with Superman's, a void has been created—one that filmmakers Woody Tondorf and Chris Landa hope to fill with "The Dark Knight Legacy."
The fan film has a teaser produced, one that shows off pretty high production values for a fanmade film. The clip also includes several notable Gothamites, most all of which were absent from Nolan's trilogy. The Red Hood, Penguin, Ventriloquist, and (get ready...

Ever wondered what happens after Batman saves Gotham in The Dark Knight Rises? Enter Dark Knight Legacy - a new fan film answering that exact question. "Everyone wants to make a Batman movie,” said Woody Tondorf, co-writer and executive producer of Legacy. “But we wanted to tell a story about Batman's influence on other people, while still getting all the action and justice that Batman fans demand." Similar to Batman’s influence, Christopher Nolan’s beloved trilogy ending has created an opportunity for fans to create new adventures for the famous Caped Crusader. Taking place one year after Dark Knight Rises, Dark Knight Legacy follows “Robin” John Blake (Daniel Vincent Gordh) as he prepares to take up Batman’s role as Gotham’s protector, only for the Red Hood (Maury Sterling), a mysterious figure from Bruce Wayne’s past, to appear and challenge him for the mantle of “The Batman...

Zach King knows a thing or two about Final Cut, and thankfully he’s sharing the knowledge. People are starting to take notice of his gripping edit sequences and penchant for fast-paced VFX shots. His YouTube channel Final Cut King, once a witty blend of his last name with an amusing brand name to sell video courses and workshops on editing, is now a rising star in the innovative filmmaking circles within the world’s biggest video network. With 5.7 million total views and 37,700 subscribers, Final Cut King is on the verge of a breakout. His latest pop came in early May when King was tapped as one of the 25 winners of YouTube’s NextUp program—its first—which set the rising creator up with $35,000 and a trip out to New York City for the four-day creators camp. Parody, video games and the internet have always been a three’s company of buddiness. CollegeHumor’s Dorkly, YouTube 8-bit parodies, and of course Atom’s long-running and recently ended Zelda spoof, The Legend of Neil all feasted from the table of viewers nostalgic for the video games of their youth. Creator Matt Lewis still saw plenty of flesh on this comedy bone, crafting an elaborately detailed parody of over a dozen video game characters in what would become his first leap into web series with Video Game Reunion, set to bow March 8th on Atom and GameTrailers. The series opts for the lighter, familiar mockumentary riff on the idea of the real lives of game characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Mega Man—not as dark as the neo-noir sendup of the Mario Bros. and the Koopa Kingdom in 2008’s There Will Be Brawl. The main conceit of...

The apocalyptic end of the world drama is such a played out subgenre that there’s nothing left to do but make fun of it. And if you’re Woody Tondorf making fun of things is what you do best. This is after all the same guy that created one of YouTube’s most popular scripted comedy web series Elevator, that racked up over 20 million views in its 3-year run. Tondorf's latest comedy is aiming to do just that. Apocalypse Wow released their first trailer later yesterday evening, after screening it down at Comic-Con in San Diego last month. As of now the project is just a pilot episode and trailer, produced on what Tondorf says is “a tiny spec budget” in hopes of luring in investors or one of the online studios or networks to pick up the series. Tondorf teamed up with Blue Movies creator Scott Brown, who directed the promo episodes,...

We've been know to spend our share of time on Twitter, but not as much as say @PerezHilton who basically lives on there. The site has basically become a cauldron of celebrity ego masturbation. Thankfully, the guys at Break Media, or more specifically Matty Sumida spends hours combing through the gems of celeb blabber to hand pick the best of the week. He then hands them over to Break staffer and comedian Mike Polk, who writes and stars in their original mocking web series, Tweet Boxx. The eight-episode series just wrapped up its first season and is currently on hiatus while the company's busy Creative Lab tends to its other comedy seeds. Polk was part of the creative team acquired earlier this year in Break's purchase of HBOlab from HBO which brought with it a handful of existing series like Elevator and Man in the Box, along with Woody Tondorf and Danila Koverman.
