Winter had a chilling effect on Broadway last week, with most shows reporting at least some downturn at the box office and overall receipts dropping nearly 10% from the previous week.
In all, box office for the 24 productions totaled $21,192,251 for the week ending February 11, with attendance of 187,573 down about 12% from the previous week.
Only a half-dozen shows bucked the downward trend, most notably Sweeney Todd, which on February 9 welcomed Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster as the permanent replacements for Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford (understudies had been filling in since the originals departed January 14). Grosses for the Sondheim revival were up $402,763 for a $1,260,185 total.
Joining the roster was The Notebook, just a few seats shy of selling out all of its first three previews at the Schoenfeld Theatre. The production, with music by Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter, grossed $364,678 for the three performances, with a healthy average ticket...

After making one of the most refreshing DC superhero movies in years, and also one of the worst, David F. Sandberg is finally returning to his horror roots. Unsurprisingly for IP-obsessed Hollywood, Sandberg's return is not with an original horror story, but with an adaptation of a popular title — a video game, to be exact.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandberg has signed up to direct an adaptation of "Until Dawn," the PlayStation horror game, for Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions. The script was originally written by Blair Butler (who previously wrote the underwhelming vampire flick "The Invitation"), but "Annabelle: Creation" writer Gary Dauberman is reportedly giving the script another pass.
Though specifics on this adaptation are scarce, Screen Gems is reportedly describing the film version as an "R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast."
"Until Dawn" was first released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4 as an interactive horror game.

“Dancing with the Stars” premiered in 2005 with a focus on teaching celebrities some fancy footwork. But along the way the professional dancers who teach and partner with those celebrity amateurs became stars in their own right. Many of them returned to the show year after year, and over a dozen have won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy over the course of the series. Scroll down to see every single “DWTS” pro champion, listed by their number of victories.
It’s fitting that the “DWTS” pros have become fan-favorites because they’re not just dancers. They’re also trainers, choreographers and storytellers, and their chemistry with the stars fuels the show’s best routines, so they’re truly the lifeblood of the competition, especially when they bring talent and charisma out of unexpected places, from child stars to race car drivers to one male model, Nyle Dimarco, who won the Mirror...

Will Grammy-winner Jason Mraz win the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy this season on “Dancing with the Stars”? He’s one of five finalists headed into the December 5 season finale, and he’s the latest in a long line of successful recording artists who have appeared on the show.
SEEJason Mraz was meme-worthy throughout ‘Monster Night’ on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ [Watch]
It’s hard to know how musicians will do on “DWTS.” Given their professional experience, they usually have a natural sense of rhythm and musicality, but they don’t always have prior dance experience, and they don’t always make it far in the competition. Sometimes they fall short like Spice Girls member Melanie C, “American Idol” champ Jordin Sparks and R&b star Tinashe, often because viewer voters let them down.

Singer-songwriter Ani Difranco will make her Broadway debut as ‘Persephone’ in the hit musical Hadestown, performing the role she originated on the 2010 studio-concept album by composer Anaïs Mitchell.
Difranco will begin performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre on February 9, 2024. The announcement was made today by producers Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy.
Difranco’s history with Hadestown began when she invited Mitchell to release the original studio album of Hadestown on Difranco’s label Righteous Babe Records. Difranco originated the role of ‘Persephone’ on the album, leaving what the producers’ announcement today described as “an indelible imprint on the character as the show evolved over the course of several years.”

This Blue Beetle article contains spoilers.
At the start of Blue Beetle’s second act, protagonist Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) asks an important question: “Who the hell was Blue Beetle?”
A lot of viewers wondered the same thing when the Warner Bros. movie came to theaters earlier this year and they’ll likely be asking it again now that the movie is streaming on Max. People don’t ask that same question of Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman, but not because Blue Beetle is at best a C-lister in the DC Comics bullpen. Rather it’s because the man behind the Blue Beetle mask has changed several times since Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski debuted the character in 1939.
The big-screen adaptation introduces Blue Beetle as Jaime Reyes, who is a recent college grad forced to the superhero identity after receiving an alien scarab from Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine), the daughter of inventor Ted Kord,...

John Oliver got back to talking about politics on Last Week Tonight and took a swipe at O.J. Simpson.
While on the topic of U.S. Senator Bob Menendez and his wife Nadine Arslanian, Oliver showcased a clip of when he proposed to Arslanian in front of the Taj Mahal. While doing so, Menendez serenaded Arslanian with a musical number from The Greatest Showman.
Menendez sang “Never Enough” which lyrics say that “towers of gold will never be enough,” which made Oliver relate it to Simpson.
“It doesn’t look great now to hear the world’s oldest theater kid sing about how ‘towers of gold will never be enough’ for him, given the multiple gold bars that were found in his actual house,” Oliver said. “I don’t care how much you like a song, if it sounds like a confession, maybe don’t sing it in public.”

With “Dancing with the Stars” set to come back for a 32nd season this fall on ABC after spending last year on Disney+, there’s a long list of celebrities who deserve to compete on the dance floor. Two of my previous suggestions came true: Frankie Muniz (who came in third in season 25) and Kel Mitchell (who came in second in season 28). Below is a list of female stars I think the show should consider inviting to the ballroom to vie for the next Mirror Ball Trophy. Do you agree with my picks? Season two of "The Bear" hit Hulu in June 2023 and was the most-watched premiere of any FX series on the platform, per TV Insider. While viewers impatiently wait for new weekly episodes of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” Jenny Han has another show and a set of movies available to stream. “Xo, Kitty” and the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” films contain similar themes of teenage love and coming of age. All three heroines in Han’s different works come from her books — “The Summer I Turned Pretty” trilogy or the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy.
If you want to go chronologically, it depends on whether you go by the books’ publish dates or the order in which they were adapted. For adaptation order, start with “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” From there, you can either watch the spinoff show “Xo, Kitty” or break for Season 1 of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Plus, Han makes cameo appearances in each installment of her film series and shows.

This post contains spoilers for The Flash series finale.
The Flash has always been about hope, even when things look darkest. And for fans of the Arrowverse, it’s hard to imagine anything darker than the series finale. Not only is the official Arrowverse coming to a close with the end of The Flash, but even other superhero shows on the CW face an uncertain future, with Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights facing potential cancelation. And yet, during the final episode of The Flash, hope arrived in the form of a lightning bolt.
As expected, the final episode built to a showdown between Flash Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Cobalt Blue (Rick Cosnett). But the really exciting part of the show came in its final seconds, when Barry told a story to his and Iris’s (Candice Patton) newborn daughter Nora, herself destined to become super-speedster Xs (Jessica Parker Kennedy...

Jordan Fisher savors those 7 p.m. showtimes. It’s not that there’s a huge difference on the nights that Broadway’s revival of “Sweeney Todd” starts at 8 p.m. But the extra hour of freedom after curtain call at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre means he gets more time to spend with his family.
“I’ll get to bed an hour early and get up with my son so we can hang and have a little bit more time to chill in the morning,” Fisher says over espresso at a swanky bar in Manhattan’s theater district. He got married during the pandemic, and the couple welcomed their first child in last June. “A lot of my mornings are dictated by how late I go to bed. With a schedule like this, we go to work hours after people clocked out of their offices. My body has to get used to it.

The power of "Sweeney Todd" lies in its ability to seduce its audience to stare (and chortle) at the ingenuity of murderous cannibalism. Since its 1979 opening on Broadway (starring Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury), the darkly comic "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street" has been a general favorite of Stephen Sondheim's musicals (depending on who you ask). It exists at the intersection of traditional musical theatre and operetta, permitting a flexible theatricality from the small-scale (John Doyle's 2005 version and the 2017 Barrow Street immersive pie shop staging) to the grandiose opera stage. In the hands of "Hamilton" director Thomas Kail, "Sweeney Todd" stays true to its theatrical technicalities on the Broadway stage for the most part.
Inspired by the 1840s penny dreadful serial and Christopher Bond's 1973 stage retelling, Hugh Wheeler's book deals with injustice in 19th-century London. "Sweeney Todd" follows the eponymous barber who returns...

First “Company,” then “Into the Woods,” and now the demon barber of Fleet Street. In the year or so since legendary composer Stephen Sondheim’s death, Broadway has seen an increasing number of revivals of his works. The trend continued on March 26 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre with the opening of a new production of his masterpiece, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” Tony nominee and internationally-renowned vocalist Josh Groban plays the menacing title role as the wronged barber out for revenge, starring opposite Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs. Lovett, the schemer who devises baking Todd’s victims into meat pies in an austere nineteenth-century London.
Led by Tony-winning “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail, the ensemble also boasts Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles (“The King and I”), Jordan Fisher, Gaten Matarazzo, and many others amongst its 25 players. Kail has also enlisted three-time Tony winner Alex Lacamoire as music supervisor...

If you like gorgeous gals, movie musicals, and stories of road-trip revenge, then I have the best news in the entire world, just for you: Variety reports that Amanda Seyfried and Evan Rachel Wood are working on a musical version of the 1991 Ridley Scott classic "Thelma & Louise." Both performers have shown their skills in musicals before, with Seyfried starring in the Abba musical "Mamma Mia!" and its sequel, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again," along with the movie version of the "Les Misérables" stage musical, while Wood performed the songs of The Beatles in Julie Taymor's underrated 2007 film "Across the Universe." These two have the vocal skills to tackle a musical and they're both phenomenal actors who will be able to have a blast playing best friends on the run from the law.

“With trauma bonding, both of you are bringing into the relationship past unresolved traumas,” explained Noble. “A lot of people, what they see growing up — that’s the model for how they form relationships.”
Burke agreed with the concept, as she revealed how her ideas around relationships were modeled after her early relationships.

A post shared by JoJo Siwa (@itsjojosiwa)
JoJo Siwa solemnly swears she's up to no good. In preparation for Halloween, the "Boomerang" singer pulled on her best scowl and a pair of black-and-green robes to transform into Hogwarts's most entitled first year: Draco Malfoy. "This is Crabbe and Goyle, and I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy," Siwa mouths along to the character's iconic line from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" as she extends a hand toward the camera in an Instagram video posted on Wednesday. Selling us on the idea that polyjuice potion is real, Siwa also seemingly dyed her hair bleach blond and slicked it back in a perfect imitation of Tom Felton's 2001 costume.
From the hair to the button-up cardigan and tucked-in tie, every inch of Siwa's Draco Malfoy ensemble was perfection, but the best part of her costume was her commitment to impersonating the pretentious Slytherin.

“And then, you know, I destroyed all of his Xboxes and all those things that he said was his only vice. I wrote all over his tux.
