“Let’s Fucking Go.”
Tom Brady’s notorious catchphrase (“Lfg” is the PG version) was how Fox chose to end its upfront presentation Monday evening, with Brady on stage joined by his Fox NFL colleague Michael Strahan, and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay (also known for using the F word), shouting it to the rafters.
Brady, who retired officially last year, confirmed that he will indeed join the Fox NFL broadcast booth this fall, working as an analyst alongside play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt and reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi.
Brady was the closing event for the upfront, appearing a week after his Netflix roast made global headlines (fellow roaster and Fox personality Rob Gronkowski was also in attendance).
Brady, speaking to Strahan on stage, said the decision to follow through on his deal two years ago to join Fox after he retired was a “no brainer.”

ESPN has disciplined members of its staff who worked for years to secure Emmys for on-air personnel who were not normally eligible for the awards by using fake names and entering them in various categories, according to an investigation by The Athletic.
The probe found that ESPN has for more than a decade inserted fake personnel names in entries to win more than 30 Emmys, then took the awards, removed the fraudulent nameplates and had the statues engraved anew so they could be given to on-air staff. Among those who were given the ill-gotten awards are Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Chris Fowler, Desmond Howard and Samantha Ponder. Much of the activity seems to center around “College GameDay,” the Disney-backed sports-media outlet’s very popular college-football program.
“Some members of our team were clearly wrong in submitting certain names that may go back to 1997 in Emmy categories where they were not eligible for recognition or statuettes.

Fox Sports, a few weeks after making a splash by announcing Tom Brady would be joining the network as an NFL analyst when his playing career is over, has confirmed its lead announcing talent for 2022.
As expected, Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen have been named lead play-by-play announcer and analyst, replacing Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. In a stunning move prior to the Brady bombshell, Fox parted ways with Buck and Aikman after more than 20 years, with the pair shifting to ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
Burkhardt and Olsen will be joined by reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi as well as rules expert Mike Pereira, Fox said. The team will handle regular season and playoff games, culminating with Fox’s 10th Super Bowl telecast in February.

Vince McMahon is getting in the ring for another scripted wrestling series.
NBCUniversal is developing Pinned, a drama set in the world of fictional wrestling promotion.
Craig O’Neill, exec producer of the recent CSI: Vegas sequel series and MacGyver, is writing and exec producing the project with Fox Sports reporter Tom Rinaldi and WWE chief McMahon.

Madden NFL, one of the most popular video game franchises in history, has sold well over 130 million copies since its 1988 debut. And yet, says Fox Sports reporter Tom Rinaldi with amazement, “There are people that don’t know John Madden is a real man.” For anyone sadly in need of enlightenment about the name on the box — as well as those who already revere Madden as coach of the Super Bowl XI–winning Oakland Raiders and the only color analyst to announce for all four major broadcast networks — there is All Madden. This documentary profiles the figure who, intones Fox sportscaster Troy Aikman onscreen, “was the authoritative voice for our sport and in a lot of ways still is.” (Credit: Dennis Desprois/Getty Images) Madden has made an outsized contribution to our obsession with professional football. All Madden, the documentary he co-directed about NFL coach, broadcaster and video game namesake John Madden, will premiere Christmas Day on Fox. Rinaldi, a broadcaster for Fox Sports, made the film with his network production executive colleague, Joel Santos. The 85-year-old Madden has not yet seen the final cut.
“I hope he and his family can gather together and watch it and feel all of the admiration,” he told Deadline in an interview. “There’s a nostalgia aspect for many of us, taking us back through John’s whole journey. But there will be a lot of children receiving the Madden videogame for Christmas who don’t even know he’s an actual person! In decades past, the networks’ sports departments were usually given just a sliver of the overall time in any upfront presentation. In 2021, Fox Sports is stepping out on its own.
The Fox Corp. unit on Friday put on a separate presentation to advertisers, rather than just having Joe Buck take up a few seconds of the proceedings during the usual Monday-afternoon pitch devoted to the Fox broadcast network. During upfronts, U.S. networks work to sell the bulk of their advertising for the next programming cycle.
There’s new reason to put a solo spotlight on sports. Live programming — read: sports and news — is largely driving the economics of linear TV. So there’s little reason to relegate the sports team to lobbing a few footballs into the crowd at the end of the yearly spiel, as has often been the case. In a sign of the new emphasis being placed on live programming,...

Just before kickoff in the New Orleans Saints’ divisional playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers last week, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that Saints quarterback Drew Brees would retire after the season. The news forced an adjustment by the Fox team broadcasting the game. Speculation about Brees’ future had circulated all season long. But the new apparent certainty about that future would need to be addressed should the Saints lose, ending their season and Brees’ career. Once New Orleans fell behind by 10 points in the latter part of the fourth quarter, lead announcers Troy Aikman and Joe Buck turned their attention to Brees’ legacy.

Tom Rinaldi is leaving ESPN for Fox Sports in January. He was not among the ESPN layoffs, two people with knowledge of Rinaldi’s new and expiring deals told TheWrap.
The second person, who has intimate knowledge of Rinaldi’s expiring ESPN deal, told TheWrap that ESPN offered Rinaldi an increase in salary to stay, but that Fox Sports’ offer was “life-changing” money.
James Andrew Miller, the author of ESPN oral history “Those Guys Have All the Fun,” reported that Rinaldi asked ESPN to not match Fox’s offer, which Miller speculated was in the $2 million-per-year ballpark. Our second source on this story said that ESPN was told the $2 million-per-year number was accurate. Fox Sports declined to comment on the financial aspects of Rinaldi’s new deal.
Rinaldi, the recipient of 16 Sports Emmy Awards and seven Edward R. Murrow Awards, has covered every major sporting event in his impressive career.
