Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, whose film ‘Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat’ released recently, has shared that he was ousted from the Salman Khan-starrer ‘Tere Naam’. He also spoke about his most loved films of Salman Khan.
It was around 2002 when Anurag was hired to direct ‘Tere Naam’. Given his penchant for realism, he wanted Salman Khan to not shave his chest as the character of Radhe hailed from Uttar Pradesh where men are known to be very raw in terms of appearance.
However, Salman being a superstar didn’t agree with Anurag’s idea as he has an image to maintain for his fans. After the producer of the film got to know how Anurag told Salman to not shave his chest, Anurag was thrown out of the film unceremoniously.
But, Anurag has no grudges. He told YouTuber Samdish Bhatia that he admires films like ‘Sultan’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Dabangg’. In fact,...

CinemaTollywood star Jagapathi Babu is set to make his Bollywood debut with this film.Digital NativeDigital NativeDabangg was one of the biggest hits in the history of Salman Khan’s career and the third installment of this franchise is getting ready to hit the floors. According to reports, the filmmakers have been scouting for a suitable south Indian actor to play the main villain in Dabangg 3 and offer has been lapped up by the Tollywood star Jagapathi Babu. If this report turns out to be true, it would mark Jagapathi Babu’s debut in Bollywood. Dabangg 3, starring Salman Khan in the lead role, will be directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Salman Khan’s brother Arbaaz Khan under his banner Arbaaz Khan Productions. Dabangg, which released in the year 2010, was directed by Abhinav Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora and Dhillin Mehta under the banner Arbaaz Khan Productions. The film was made on a budget of Rs 2.15 billion and went on to fetch Rs 420 million at the box office worldwide. A sequel to Dabangg was released a couple of years later. This film was directed and produced by Arbaaz Khan on a budget of Rs 80 crores and collected over Rs 300 crores at the box office. For Dabangg 3, the producers have now roped in Prabhu Deva, to wield the megaphone. Incidentally, his directorial debut in Bollywood was with the Salman Khan starrer Wanted and the film turned out to be a blockbuster hit. He then went on to direct hit movies such as Rowdy Rathore and Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Choreographer – turned – actor Prabhu Deva went on to become an acclaimed director with hits in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu to his credit. Though he was seen playing important roles in a few Kollywood films in the recent past, it has been six years since he had wielded the megaphone for a Tamil film. Prabhu Deva’s Mercury directed by Karthik Subbaraj which was released recently has been touted as India's first 'silent thriller' in 30 years. The film packs enough thrill, suspense and scares to get you hooked instantly. Following this, his other movies, Charlie Chaplin 2, Yung Mung Sung and Lakshmi will be hitting screens. To answer the question first. Yes, Irrfan Khan probably was the first choice for Rahul Dholakia's Raees. Just as Randeep Hooda was the first choice for Dabangg. The story, according to Dabangg producer Arbaaz Khan, goes like this. Abhinav Kashyap approached Arbaaz with a documentary-like raw real gritty and brutal script about a cop in Bihar trying to live a corruption-free life. Randeep Hooda was to star in the film. Arbaaz Khan took over the project and changed the entire look and budget. He changed it from a Hooda to a Salman project. Likewise initially Rahul Dholakia had planned Raees as a raw and gritty real-life drama about the rise of a hooch seller in Gujarat to a dreaded don. Says a source, "Then when Rahul went to Ritesh Sidhwani, the project became many sizes larger than life. It was no more an Irrfan vehicle. Shah Rukh is to...

The much awaited R Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Shergill, Deepak Dobriyal and Swara Bhaskar starrer, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, the follow up to the highly successful Tanu Weds Manu, started on an impressive note. The opening can be termed as great in Delhi-ncr, East Punjab and good at other places, except for some stations of South and East India. The icing on the cake was a further pick up during the latter shows, which consolidated the fact that Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a sureshot hit, how big or small time will tell!

The year 2013 wasn’t without its awful dreck, unlistenable songs, and dreadfully earnest star sons trying their hand at acting. It was also the year where trumpeting your own horn (looking at you Mr Sajid Khan!) proved to an ironically bad choice, promotion tours became exhaustively boring, and albums that made our ears bleed. There were many terrible films and debuts that made us cringe, and shake our fists at the wasted potential. Here once again are the Bollywood Razzies of 2013.
Awful Actress – Pallavi Sharda
It was quite astonishing that Sharda managed to bodge up a dream debut with Ranbir Kapoor in Besharam. While the film was hyped to be a rollicking comedy, Sharda was picked out from the crop of Bollywood actresses for Abhinav Kashyap’s film away from Dabangg mania. Sharda looked completely uncomfortable in her big role, where the three Kapoors tried to salvage the crumbling story and bad writing.

With Bollywood’s admiration for ‘The Departed’ director quite evident, it wasn’t surprising to see the turnout at the special screening of the film hosted by Anurag Kashyap earlier this week in Mumbai.
Anurag & Martin who interacted as jury members at the Marakkech festival in early December, are known to share a mutually admiring relationship; with the latter having been candid about his appreciation for Anurag’s movies.

Oh, what a fall. One doesn’t remember when was the last time a film had suffered such a massive fall at the box office after reaching a very good high on its opening. ‘Besharam’, which had enjoyed a 20 crore plus opening day for itself, saw such a bad day to day fall that despite a 9 day week, it could amass only a little over 55 crore. This translates into a (rude) fact that the film couldn’t even triple its opening day collections by the end of it’s (long) week. An eye opener indeed!
The film has clearly suffered the poorest word of mouth that any Bollywood flick has met with in not just 2013 but last so many years. With anyone and everyone coming down heavily on the Abhinav Kashyap directed affair, no one associated with the film could come out in its defence (a right move actually, since...

Worst fears came true for Besharam on it’s release last week. Given the kind of wide release and a holiday arrival that Besharam was enjoying, it should have ideally crossed the 25 crore mark on the opening day and then consolidated its position. However cracks started widening on 2nd October itself when the Ranbir Kapoor starrer just about managed to cross the 20 crore mark. However disaster struck the film in days to follow when it saw a massive decline for itself. So much so that after a steep fall on Thursday and Friday, there was not much respite on Saturday and Sunday either, hence resulting in a total downfall.
As a result, the film couldn’t even cross the 50 crore mark despite three holidays in its first five days and could score only around 47 crore. The Abhinav Kashyap directed affair could well have taken advantage of such huge window open for itself,...

New Delhi, Oct 3: The critics panned Abhinav Singh Kashyap's "Besharam" as illogical and a movie that "lacks merit". However, the bad reviews notwithstanding, the film minted Rs.21.56 crore on the opening day.
Co-produced by Himanshu Mehra, Sanjeev Gupta and Reliance Entertainment, the film was made at a budget of Rs.60 crore plus the cost of promotions, marketing and advertising.
The film hit 3,600 screens in India and 700 screens overseas when it released Wednesday on Gandhi Jayanti.
The movie brings together three Kapoors -- Ranbir and his actor parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor -- for the first time on the big screen.
"'Besharam' lacks merits. Great start and Ranbir will see it reach safety mark but that's.

Ranbir Kapoor has managed to earn a reputation as an actor who has the knack for selecting some really interesting and out-of-the-box scripts. It’s no wonder then that his latest, Besharam, directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap has been one of the highly anticipated movies of the year. Kashyap, who last gave us the very entertaining Dabangg, had also managed to raise everyone’s expectations from the film. Add to that the casting of the three talented Kapoors and you expect nothing less than the best from this film. Does this move though manage to deliver on the expectations?

Movie: Besharam; Starring: Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Pallavi Sharda, Javed Jaffrey; Directed by: Abhinav Singh Kashyap; Rating:** - Ranbir Kapoor sinks to a low.
The number of times Ranbir Kapoor, that simmering restless bundle of unstoppable talent, calls himself 'besharam' (shameless) in this movie is not funny. And with good reason, one might add.
The plot is evidently written as a back-handed homage to the 1980s and 90s cinema of outlandish logistics where coincidences covered up for the lack of a sound sense in the script, and every actor screamed his or her dialogues to conceal the embarrassment of.

With a lot of hype supporting it, ‘Besharam’ is expected to open quite well at the box office. While Ranbir Kapoor factor should be the single most driving factor for the film, the very fact that it is coming on a National holiday will give further boost to its collections. Moreover, it is being released on a screen count more than ‘Chennai Express’, the biggest of them all, which means there is huge market open out there for this Abhinav Kashyap film to explore.
On the flip side, there would be an instant comparison coming into play as well. On the first day of its release, ‘Chennai Express’ had netted over 33 crores at the box office. Though it would be too much to expect for ‘Besharam’ to come anywhere close to this number, the least it would have to do is cross the 20 crore mark at the box office so...

Hitting the silver screen on October 2nd is Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam starring Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh and Pallavi Sharda. In the comedy-romance-action-caper Ranbir Kapoor plays ‘Babli’, a street smart, fun-loving, football-playing car mechanic who has seen the dark side of life as one of India’s many desolate orphan children. The worldly-wise Babli learnt at a young age how to survive the trauma of having no one to care for him. He grew up fast in a Delhi orphanage and has devoted his life to helping and mentoring the other children in the shelter. The cheeky and fiercely independent Babli takes as his life motto: “Na Samaan Ka Moh, Na Apmaan ka Bhay”, translated as “No Want for Respect, No Fear of Disrespect”. The film unfolds his many ‘besharam’ moments with hilarious consequences.
Babli has no sense of right or wrong till he unwittingly hurts the love of his life,...

Over the 10 films in his young career, Ranbir Kapoor has hit all the right notes, in genres ranging from drama to romance and everything in between. The young actor has played a myriad of characters: the driven Rockstar, the lazy Sid, the silent Barfi, the boy of today learning about love à la Bunny, and many more. He has always impressed with his fabulous performances. His earlier films have had comedy as part of the mix, and his release this Friday is full-on, off-the-wall Besharam (shameless), but in a good way!
In the film, Ranbir plays Babli, a street smart car mechanic living in a Delhi orphanage. He is charming and lives life to the fullest. He also steals cars to support the orphanage. He has no sense of right or wrong until he unwittingly hurts the love of his life, Tara (Pallavi Sharda) and is chased by the corrupt...

The Kapoor trio in one film: mum, dad and son was not something which was planned. It actually happened very much by chance when director Abhinav Kashyup came round Ranbir’s home to discuss the film and ended up splitting the main role of the police officer into two characters to fit mother and father. Now the film is ready for release, not only are fans in for a super treat, Bollywood’s number one family also had an amazing time on set working with one another and shared their fond experiences whilst in London to promote the film.
Ranbir talked merrily about how, “It was fantastic working with my parents” and that because “we hardly get time to spend with each other, thankfully this film allowed us to do that.” Although many of us are used to respectfully taking orders from our parents Ranbir was glad to share that...

Mumbai, Sep 22: Abhinav Kashyap is known for his masala entertainer, while his elder brother and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's forte is parallel cinema. And the "Dabangg" director says they want to rule different areas of Bollywood.
"When Anurag will get into masala films, then probably I will think of making his kind of cinema. We both brothers want to rule different areas of Bollywood," Abhinay said in a group interview.
"We are mafias. We don't operate in each other's area," he added jokingly.
While Abhinav made it big with his directorial debut "Dabangg", a mass entertainer, Anurag carved a niche for himself.

Abhinav, who brought back the trend of hero sporting a moustache through his super successful debut film Dabangg, is aiming to recommence the bushy chested look and bring it in vogue through his upcoming film Besharam. Dabangg-director, Abhinav Kashyap is back with his upcoming film Besharam featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Pallavi Sharda in lead roles. Besharam bring to us a vibrantly dressed, highly effervescent actor, Ranbir Kapoor.

The director required Ranbir to lose his lean look and appear muscular for this new movie to justify a few fighting sequences that his role requires him to perform.
Besharam inexplicably chooses to make ‘Babli’ the focus of its story. ‘Babli’ is a terrific character played by Ranbir who is a street smart car mechanic living in a Delhi orphanage, for which Ranbir had to familiarize himself with the mannerisms, lingo and style of a Punjabi Delhi-ite.
