The feminist protest art collective Pussy Riot will serve as the subjects of a forthcoming limited series currently in development at STX Entertainment. The scripted series will be based on the upcoming memoir from founder Nadya Tolokonnikova, which traces the group’s origin story and subsequent run-ins with the law.
“I was a broke 20-year-old artist studying philosophy, he was one of the most powerful, wealthy and dangerous men on Earth. In 2011 I went against him, damn the consequences,” Tolokonnikova said in a statement. “After years of imprisonment, harassment, attacks,...

Exclusive: We’ve learned that STX Entertainment has reached a deal with Nadya Tolokonnikova, the artist, activist, and creator of the legendary Russian feminist protest art collective Pussy Riot, to develop a limited scripted series based on her forthcoming memoir.
The project was brought to the studio by former President of STX Sophie Watts.
The series represents the first scripted project of Pussy Riot with the full support of the creator of the movement, Nadya Tolokonnikova, with all preceding projects (including Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer and Pussy versus Putin) being documentaries. The project will explore the story of how a young girl from Siberia took on the world’s most powerful dictator – the origins and formation of the art collective; the actions of Nadya and fellow young women against Putin in Moscow; their arrest after the famous “Punk Prayer” action; their trial, conviction, and jail sentence; and the protests...

“It’s detached from everything else,” she says. “We don’t have a summer. It’s dark as hell. You can’t...

For several years running, Kalie Shorr has been one of country music’s most promising new artists — for how she melds an appreciation of the genre’s roots with an unabashed love for emo and pop, for her cutting songwriting, and for how she’s made her feminism a vital part of her musical perspective. Though she released an Ep, Awake, last year, she’s stopped short of a full-length. That will change on September 27th with Open Book, Shorr’s debut LP, which she co-wrote and also co-produced. The album’s first single,...
