Writer-director John Krasinski’s upcoming summer movie If already looks like it will have plenty of friends when hitting theaters.
The Paramount movie is tracking to open to $40 million-plus, or a range of $38 million to $42 million, an impressive figure for an original family film. And based on raw data, some box office pundits believe it has a shot at $45 million to $50 million.
Unaided awareness is well above average, as well as interest and first choice. For Paramount, the tracking numbers show that the studio is able to keep to the job at hand, versus getting stymied by talks of a looming sale.
If‘s cast list reads like a who’s who of top Hollywood stars, led by Ryan Reynolds.

This post contains spoilers for Baby Reindeer, which is now streaming on Netflix.
It takes less than two minutes into Netflix’s Baby Reindeer for the words “this is a true story” to appear onscreen. This simple phrase, when used in pop culture, adds an extra level of emotional weight that tales sold as wholly fictional don’t get: Sure, your imagination can invent something crazy, but can you believe this thing actually happened to someone?!?!

‘I was only able to go on stage hammered’: David Harewood on acting, racism and his new role at Rada
He had barely started his career when abuse left him mentally ill. But he went on to phenomenal success – and has just been made president of the UK’s leading drama school
This is the first time David Harewood has stepped through the doors of Rada’s London headquarters since he became its president in mid-February, and he’s immediately struck by flashbacks of his time as a student here. “Stunning memories,” he says. “Memories of my audition, the paintings … and that staircase will always be memorable because you walk in and go: ‘Oh my God, I’m at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art!’ It’s very evocative.”
Harewood, 58, is the first person of colour to lead Rada, and he follows in the footsteps of such luminaries as Kenneth Branagh, Richard Attenborough, Princess Diana and John Gielgud. It is the most prestigious of acting schools – some would say the...

Eve and Villanelle’s cat-and-mouse game is back on. Killing Eveis now streaming on Netflix in the US, which means you can watch (or rewatch) all four seasons of the daring British spy thriller — that’s 32 episodes total — from the very beginning.
Created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), the series ran from 2018–2022 and is based on a series of novellas by British author Luke Jennings. It stars Sandra Oh as Eve, an intelligent, outside-the-box field operative tasked with bringing down the sociopathic assassin Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer. Over the course of the critically-acclaimed series, their mutual infatuation — ahem, obsession — takes deadly twists and shocking turns.
Waller-Bridge oversaw Season 1, with each subsequent season helmed by a different head writer/showrunner: Emerald Fennell for Season 2, Suzanne Heathcote for Season 3, and Laura Neal for the final season. Killing Eve also picked up a number of awards during...

“The Curse” has become one of the most talked-about shows this year with its idiosyncratic mix of cringe comedy, weird horror, marital drama, and sentiment proving to be a recipe for brilliance. The acclaimed Showtime drama series follows Nathan Fielder and Oscar winner Emma Stone as a newly married couple who host an HGTV show. They try to conceive a child as they navigate the effects of a curse.
Fielder and Stone’s performances propel the show to greatness and they are ably supported by Benny Safdie, who co-created the show with Fielder. He plays a desperate producer and while the role is scenery-chewing enough, it’s also a great role for filmmaker Safdie to once again show his acting chops, as noted by critics.
Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) proclaimed: “Safdie makes him a behind-the-scenes sorta-psycho who’s as compelling as his on-air compatriots, inhabiting Dougie with a brand...

We've already had one movie this year about an imaginary friend turning out to be not so fictional, and causing chaos in Blumhouse's Imaginary. That didn't exactly impress, so would it have been better if Ryan Reynolds had shown up to announce he was tasting gummy bear farts with his eyeballs? Maybe… but it probably wouldn't have seemed as scary. Still, writer/director John Krasinski is more going for family friendly fun with If, and the final trailer does indeed feature candy fart/eyeball action. Check it out:
If is based on a simple and, as Krasinski has already admitted, Pixar-style idea: a girl (Cailey Fleming) discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends. Trying to figure what she can do with this ability leads her to Reynolds' Cal, whose task it is to reunite forgotten IFs with their kids — or find them new ones.

"We have to help them!" "Yes we do." Paramount has revealed their main official trailer for If, written and directed by John Krasinski inbetween his other A Quiet Place movies. She teams up with Reynolds to try and find new kids to connect all the leftover characters. If (which stands for "Imaginary Friend") stars Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, and Fiona Shaw, with the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell, including many more as the wonderfully unique characters that reflect the incredible power of a child's imagination. Ripley is a psychological crime-thriller series written and directed by Steven Zaillian. Based on a 1955 novel titled The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, the Netflix series is set in the 1960s and it follows the story of Ripley as a wealthy man hires him to convince his son to come back home from Italy. However, when Ripley gets there he gets jealous of the oppulant life the wealthy man’s son is leading and decides to take it for himself. The novel by Highsmith was adapted once before into a film written and directed by Anthony Minghella, and it starred Matt Damon as the titular character. Ripley stars Andrew Scott in the lead role with Dakota Fanning, Johnny Flynn, Eliot Sumner, and Maurizio Lombardi starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved Zaillian’s take on The Talented Mr. Ripley, here are some similar shows you should check out next.

When I saw the first black-and-white still of Andrew Scott in and as “Ripley,” I was sold — and I know I’m not alone.
The 47-year-old actor might seem like an unexpected choice to step into the shoes of Tom Ripley, but for anyone following his career, it could not have been a more perfect casting or welcome treat. From the very first moments, Steve Zaillian’s “Ripley” is one of those projects that hinges entirely upon its lead actor, a vehicle for Mr. Ripley’s talents that buoys sharp direction, artistic choices, and lush cinematography in its wake.
As for casting the man last seen on TV as Hot Priest in the role of a known sociopath (though Scott and Zaillian dislike labeling their antihero), we must turn to Tumblr. With Instagram in its infancy and TikTok still years away, Twitter and Tumblr were the arenas for Andrew Scott...

The fifth Indiana Jones movie was supposed to send the franchise out on a high note, but it proved to be a sad anti-climax to an amazing franchise. Indeed, yesterday, Disney boss Bob Iger won a brutal proxy battle against a group led by Nelson Pelts over control of the Disney board. One of the issues was how the company had a pretty dire 100th anniversary, with them posting a shocking number of flops, which included The Marvels, Haunted Mansion, and more. Yet, of all the films, none was a more bitter loss to the company than Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It’s now being estimated that the fifth Indiana Jones film lost upwards of $130 million.
While the movie grossed $174 million domestically for a $383 million worldwide total, the film cost a staggering $387 million. When a studio releases a movie, typically they only get to collect about 50% of the box office earnings.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was set to be the much-awaited conclusion to a saga that had once been one of the biggest film series ever. With a star-studded ensemble like Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Mads Mikkelsen, expectations were sky-high.
However, despite the anticipation and the excitement, the film turned out to be a colossal flop. Turns out, the expectations weren’t the only thing that was sky-high, the film’s budget was way ahead. Here’s how this very ambitious project ended up digging its own grave.

Veteran film festivals curator and chief Marco Mueller, who over the past decades has headed both the Venice and Rome fests – among several other events – is operationally back in Italy where he is expected to be appointed artistic director of Sicily’s storied but troubled Taormina Film Festival.
According to several sources Mueller, who in more recent years relocated to China, is expected to sign a contract on Thursday to become Taormina fest chief. The event is run by the Fondazione Taormina Arte Sicilia foundation currently being managed by Sergio Bonomo. Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny’s Financial Report Reveals How Much Loss It Suffered After Almost A Year Of The Film’s Release ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Harrison Ford led Indiana Jones, and the Dial of Destiny was reportedly the last installment in the Indiana Jones franchise, the sequel to 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. There are five films in the franchise, and it has grossed over $2 billion at the worldwide box office. However, as per recent reports, the last movie suffered a massive loss at the box office. Scroll below for more.
The first film in this series was released in 1981, and Harrison Ford became a legend portraying the iconic character. He was de-aged for the fifth installment, and it reportedly took over 100 artists at the Industrial Light and Magic to achieve the task. They spent three years on the movie’s visual effects.

Remember "Solo: A Star Wars Story"? Sure you do! It was the second "Star Wars" anthology film — that is, a film set outside the main "Star Wars" Skywalker Saga timeline — following "Rogue One," and its less-than-great reception essentially killed off the idea of Disney doing new anthology films. Instead, the studio stuck with finishing out the Skywalker Saga in a disappointing fashion and then shifted to a bevy of Disney+ shows (some of which are soon to make the jump from the small to the big screen).
Directed by Ron Howard, "Solo" tells us how Han Solo became Han Solo, which was apparently a concept audiences weren't particularly interested in at the time, since the flick ended up being the first box office bomb in "Star Wars" history. All that said, I think "Solo" is better than its reputation suggests. It's not a great movie, but it's not an abomination,...

When Mr. & Mrs. Smith was announced as a TV series for Prime Video in 2021, there were plenty of reasons to be skeptical about the project.
It was based on a movie of the same name that did reasonably well but isn't especially well-remembered.
The announced starring duo of Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge was intriguing, especially considering that both performers were credited as creators.
Both had a history of starring in and creating successful series, including Glover with Atlanta and Waller-Bridge with Fleabag. Plus, Waller-Bridge served as the showrunner in the first season of Killing Eve, another prestige series about an assassin.
But then Waller-Bridge dropped out of the project just a few months after it was announced due to "creative differences," with Maya Erskine replacing her as the show's female lead. Glover and Francesca Sloane are credited as the co-creators.

Known for his adventures as the world-renowned archaeologist, Harrison Ford reprised his role as Indiana Jones after 15 years in James Mangold’s 2023 film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. However, despite the anticipation surrounding his return, the film failed miserably at the box office, which has been attributed to the lack of appeal to a wide audience and its excessive budget. Reports suggested potential losses of around $100 million for Disney.
James Mangold’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
However, the projected losses for the film could have been even more severe if the director had pursued his initial title for the film, which involved naming it after The Beatles album, Magical Mystery Tour.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny follows the titular character on a quest to find an ancient artifact while grappling with personal losses.

Seven years ago, Donald Glover won his first two Emmys, Best Comedy Actor and Best Comedy Directing for “Atlanta.” While he missed out on nominations last year for the final season of his FX series — he did receive a writing bid for “Swarm” — Glover is back in the hunt this cycle with “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Inspired by the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film of the same name, the spy series is competing in drama, which means Glover could become just the second man and third person to win lead Emmys in comedy and drama.

Billy Dee Williams’s Lando Calrissian is iconic, to say the least. The actor brought a level of flair and charm to the smuggler, playing the role many times in the Star Wars franchise. While there is no way to replicate how iconic his performance was, Donald Glover managed to add his own essence to the character when he played a younger version of him in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Máiréad Tyers’ first on-screen role straight out of drama school was in Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast.” “You don’t really see me in the film at all,” she says. “[But] I’m so proud of it.” A year later, she wrapped her first leading role in U.K. Disney+ original comedy “Extraordinary.” In the show — basically a flatshare sitcom with a twist — Tyers plays 20-something Jen, who is messy, funny and the only person in the world without a superpower.
But Jen can also be selfish and occasionally obnoxious – mostly to her flatmates Carrie (Sofia Oxenham), Kash (Bilal Hasna) and, erm, Jizzlord (Luke Rollason) — and Tyers’ superpower is making her not just relatable, but likeable. So much so that the show, which was created and written by newcomer Emma Moran, has been renewed for a second season, which drops today on Disney+ and on Hulu in the U.S.
