Tom Harberd to step down after more than seven years at film financier.
Daniel Negret has been named chief operating officer at UK film, TV and video games financier Head Gear Films, replacing the outgoing Tom Harberd.
Negret joins from Ingenious Media, where he spent three years as an investment manager, working on features including Brandon Cronenberg’s Possessor, Simon Barrett’s Séance and Marco Perego Saldana’s upcoming drama Keyhole Garden. He will report to Head Gear managing director Phil Hunt.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) has revealed its 2018 intake of new members drawn from the film, TV and games industry.
Among the 386 new members are actors Hugh Grant, Willem Dafoe and Hayley Squires, directors Maren Ade (Toni Erdmann), Daniel Kokotajlo (Apostasy) and Michael Pearce (Beast), film execs Shana Eddy-Grouf (Studiocanal) and Katie Goodson-Thomas (Fox Searchlight), and La La Land producers Jordan Horowitz and Fred Berger.
Former UK and Ireland Screen Stars of Tomorrow in the new intake include producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly and actor Jessie Barden.

Lionsgate U.K. has boarded “My Design Life,” Salon Pictures feature doc about Frank Stephenson, the influential car designer. Kew Media Group has taken international rights to the project, which is currently in production in Malaga, Spain.
Stephenson’s iconic car designs range from supercars including the McLaren P1 (pictured) to contemporary versions of design classics such as the Mini. The film will delve into the creative process and imagination of the designer who has helped reshape the car industry.
Helena Coan directs and Salon’s Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter produce. The deal with Lionsgate extends the relationship between Salon and the U.K. arm of the independent studio after they worked together on “Fred,” “Churchill,” and “My Name is Lenny.”

Lionsgate has taken the UK rights to My Design Life, while Kew Media Group has boarded for international distribution. The film, which is directed by up and coming director Helena Coan and produced by Salon’s Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter, tells the story of Stephenson’s designs from his seminal work at McLaren through to designing the new Mini and Fiat 500. It will also look at his work designing the new London black cab.
My Design Life is fully financed by Head Gear Films, with Phil Hunt serving as Executive Producer and Tom Harberd as Associate Producer.
