The true story of the haunting legacy of the Höss family is revealed in documentary “The Commandant’s Shadow.”
The Höss clan was fictionally captured in Jonathan Glazer’s Academy Award-winning “The Zone of Interest.” Now, the family that inspired the disturbing saga is followed in a Warner Bros. Pictures and HBO Documentary Films feature written, produced, and directed by Daniela Völker.
“The Commandant’s Shadow” follows Hans Jürgen Höss, the 87-year-old son of Rudolf Höss, as he faces his father’s terrible legacy for the first time. His father was the Camp Commandant of Auschwitz and masterminded the murder of over a million Jews. The documentary centers on two stories, one of Auschwitz survivor Anita Lasker-Wallfisch and another of Höss recalling his own childhood in the family villa at Auschwitz. The two meet 80 years later, marking the “first time the descendant of a major war criminal meets a survivor in such a private and intimate setting,...

The Harry Potter television series is closer to naming its creative leader as Deadline understands that the shortlist is now down to three names.
We hear that Succession writer Francesca Gardiner is now among the finalists to score the job of adapting Jk Rowling’s books for the Max streaming platform. It’s understood that Gardiner is now one of three writers currently being considered to lead Harry and his pals on the small screen.
A decision is expected soon. Max and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
Gardiner has emerged after Deadline revealed last month that there were four other writers in contention: Martha Hillier, Kathleen Jordan, Tom Moran and Michael Lesslie. It’s not clear which of these writers are still involved.

Daniel Radcliffe is fine with sitting on the sidelines for Max’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
The series, which, as previously announced is expected to run for 10 years, will feature an entirely new cast. The project is expected to take a few years to get on air with sources suggesting a 2025/2026 premiere.
“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” Radcliffe told ComicBook.com. “So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

Though the CW is beginning to pivot much more heavily to reality fare, with “All American” as the only original scripted series on its fall 2023 lineup, the network has added three new scripted projects to its slate for 2024: “Joan,” “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” and “The Swarm.” Additionally, 2024 will see the premieres of unscripted series “Patti Stanger: Millionaire Matchmaking,” “The Force” and “The Great American Bakeover” (all working titles).
All newly announced series are currently in production.
“Joan” stars Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) as Joan Hannington, the notorious real-life jewel thief. Set in 1980s London, the series sees Joan as a devoted mother to her six-year-old daughter, Kelly, while trapped in a disastrous marriage with a violent criminal named Gary. When Gary goes on the run, Joan seizes the opportunity to adopt new identities and embark on a high-stakes journey to create a new life for herself and Kelly.

J.K. Rowling is well aware many “Harry Potter” fans intend to boycott Max’s upcoming television series adaptation due to her involvement as an executive producer on the show. The Warner Bros. The announcement of a new “Harry Potter” TV series served as the climax of Warner Bros. Discovery’s presentation to press and investors on April 12 to tout the combination of HBO Max and Discovery+ into a new service dubbed simply Max.

Warner Bros. Discovery is taking the HBO out of HBO Max.
After months of anticipation, the company has finally revealed that the sort-of merger between HBO Max and Discovery+ will commence May 23, and the relaunched service will be named, simply, “Max.”
Warner Bros. Discovery also announced Max will launch with a price of $15.99 per month (or $149.99/year) at its ad-free pricing tier and $9.99 per month (or $99.99/year) for the cheaper, ad-supported subscription. There’s also an “Ultimate” ad-free plan for $19.99 per month (or $199.99/year) that allows four concurrent streams, 4K resolution, 100 offline downloads, and Dolby Atmos sound.
With an exception for that new, priciest tier, those are exactly the prior costs of the respective HBO Max-alone tiers (following a January price hike). All this arrives exactly three years after the initial launch of HBO Max in the midst of the pandemic back in May 2020.

Mila Kunis, Debra Messing and other entertainment industry figures are among those who have sent an open letter to Amazon and Barnes & Noble, asking that the controversial book and documentary Hebrews to Negroes: Wake up Black America be removed from their platforms.
The nonprofit organization Creative Community for Peace was behind the letter, claiming both Amazon and B&n allegedly “refused to remove the title and continue to profit from its bigotry.”
Kunis, Messing, Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik and songwriter Diane Warren were among 200 signatories to the letter. It was addressed to “Jeff Bezos, James Daunt, and the leaders at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.”
The protest comes in the wake of NBA star Kyrie Irving promoting the film with a tweet, then refusing to give an adequate apology. He was then suspended by the Brooklyn Nets and was ordered by the Brooklyn Nets to meet with various groups to make things right.

Warner Bros. Discovery has put out a statement condemning threats made against J.K. Rowling made following Friday’s attack on Salman Rushdie.
The author on Saturday said she was working with the police after receiving a death threat over her support for Rushdie.
After hearing about the attack against the author, Rowling had tweeted: “Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok.” In response, someone wrote: “Don’t worry you are next,” prompting the Harry Potter author to appeal to Twitter itself, asking “Any chance of some support?”
She later tweeted her thanks to those sending supportive messages, adding that the police were “involved” now and had already been involved on other threats.

“Fantastic Beasts 3” will be streaming on HBO Max next week, the streamer announced on Monday.
As expected, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” will be available to all HBO Max subscribers 45 days after it first hit theaters, landing on the streaming service on May 30.
The third installment in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise delves deeper into the backstory of Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) all the while the evil Gellert Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen in a recasting following Johnny Depp’s exit) amasses his forces.
Unable to stop Grindelwald alone, Dumbledore entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is releasing ahead of domestic in 22 international box office markets this weekend, beginning in Holland and Belgium on Wednesday and including the UK, Australia, Germany, Japan, Spain and China through Friday. The latter, unfortunately, is not expected to serve up any magic given significant cinema closures.
Currently, estimates for the early offshore release are in the mid-50 million range. That’s down compared to the previous two films in the Wizarding World spinoff series. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in like-for-like markets and at today’s rates opened to 120M and 115M, respectively. Those films had gone out in a November corridor and played into Christmas, finaling at 580M and 495M internationally.
Again, China is a big drag this time around; the market contributed about a third of the opening grosses on the earlier movies.

Despite reports on Monday that HBO Max was in early development on a “Harry Potter” TV spinoff, the studio denies that’s the case.
Early Monday, multiple media reports stated that WarnerMedia executives were looking for writers for a potential series set inside the world of the hit box office franchise (The Hollywood Reporter was first to report). When contacted by TheWrap to confirm the news, we got this statement from HBO Max and Warner Bros.: “There are no ‘Harry Potter’ series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.”
The reports added that no writers or other talent were attached as of yet, nor were there any details regarding the series’ focus.
Last week, Warner Bros. put Tom Ascheim, president of Warner Bros. Kids, Young Adults and Classic, in charge of the franchise and Wizarding World brand. Ascheim will now be the company’s senior representative...
