Warner Bros Pre-Buys Kristin Hannah Book ‘The Women,’ Developing Portrait Of Vietnam Nurses For Film
Exclusive: Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group has preemptively acquired rights to The Women, a new book from #1 New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah, which is up for publication by St. Martin’s Press in February.
The book exposes a turbulent, transformative time in America — the 1960s — specifically honing in on the often forgotten story of the nurses who served in the Vietnam war. It is at once an intimate portrait of a woman coming of age in a dangerous time and an epic tale of a nation divided by war and broken by politics, of a generation both fueled by dreams and lost on the battlefield.
Hannah’s work on the novel saw her interview several former nurses who served during the war. The adaptation will be overseen by Cate Adams and Diamond McNeil on behalf of Warner Bros.

Apple TV+’s biggest hit, “Ted Lasso,” scored a big win at the top of the streaming charts in the latest Wrap Report for the week of April 26-May 2. The Wrap Report tracks the most-watched programs across linear TV and streaming, according to viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs, balanced to the U.S. Census.

Note: The following contains spoilers for “Firefly Lane” Season 2 Part 2.
Filming the end of “Firefly Lane” Season 2 Part 2, specifically the scene in which Kate dies, was difficult enough for Sarah Chalke, but an irritated neighbor interrupting with his leaf blower made ending the series even more challenging.
The final episodes of “Firefly Lane” bring the adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s book to a close. Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Chalke’s Kate reconcile after falling out over a car accident involving Marah once Kate tells Tully she has breast cancer. After trying everything, Kate dies peacefully in the backyard of her house on the Seattle Sound (shot in British Columbia), and Tully goes inside briefly before it happens.
“I was sitting there looking at all the small things that Kate sees right before she dies, when Tully goes inside for a minute. It was just like a gift from nature,” Chalke told TheWrap.

“Firefly Lane” Season 2 Part 1 left viewers hanging in more ways than one, but Part 2 reconciles those loose ends.
In addition to Kate (Sarah Chalke) and Tully (Katherine Heigl) just barely missing each other on opposite elevators as Kate tries to deliver some devastating news to her estranged best friend, a short clip of a suggestive wedding scene between Johnny and Tully played after the credits of the Netflix series’ final episode.
Throughout Part 2 of Season 2, the scene’s puzzle pieces slowly come together, but at first it looks like Tully, dressed in white, might be getting ready to marry Johnny after Kate has died. As it turns out, it was Marah’s wedding, and Tully ended up with Danny.

Netflix released the trailer for “Firefly Lane” Season 2, Part 2 on Monday, giving viewers a glimpse into the final installment of the adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s best-selling novel.

Can a true friendship survive the test of time? The season two, part two, Firefly Lane trailer shows Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke trying to find that answer in the series’ final episodes.
The Maggie Friedman-created Netflix drama, based on the bestselling novel by Kristin Hannah, follows a more than 30-year friendship between two women — Tully Hart (Heigl), a nationally syndicated talk show host, and Kate Mularkey, a housewife — through love, sacrifice, jealousy, pain and happiness. The series goes through the trials they have faced through different stages of life, with the trailer for the final part showing a new jump in time.
Season two, part one, saw Tully and Kate ending their longtime friendship. The finale then shocked audiences after being left on several cliffhangers, including Kate’s cancer diagnosis, Tully moving and a huge flash-forward showing Kate’s ex-husband, Johnny Ryan (Ben Lawson), dressed up on his wedding day,...

Firefly Lane is an extremely popular series on Netflix. The show was adapted from the 2009 best-selling book of the same name by Kristin Hannah.
Hannah is a former attorney who became an award-winning author. It is certainly not her only hit novel. As of now, she has written more than 20 books and is still going strong.
Some of her most popular are The Great Alone, The Four Winds, Winter Garden, Between Sisters, On Mystic Lake, and of course, Firefly Lane.
But Firefly Lane is not her only title being adapted for the screen.

I’m a feminist because of Katherine Heigl. Wait, let me clarify. I’m a proud feminist because of women, like Katherine Heigl, who have fought tooth and nail for a seat at the table set by and for men. (Growing up the only daughter of a single mother also helped.)
Heigl has been in showbiz for decades, making her film debut at 14 years old as Kathryn, a dreamy, naive pre-teen in 1992 romance drama That Night. In 1994, she landed her first major supporting role as boundary-pushing teenager Nicole in romcom My Father the Hero, before starring in 1999 TV series Roswell as popular girl Isabel Evans.
It wasn’t until she got her six-season breakout role in 2005 as Dr Izzie Stevens on Shonda Rhimes’s award-winning medical drama Grey’s Anatomy that Heigl became a true Hollywood staple. Later, the abrupt nature of Heigl’s exit from the show in 2010 fuelled speculation that it was,...

When “Firefly Lane” co-executive producer and author of the novel Kristin Hannah met with the TV adaptation’s creator Maggie Friedman, she gave her two pointers on the core of the story, which chronicles the ever-evolving friendship between quirky, methodical Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) and bold, ambitious Tallulah ‘Tully’ Hart.
“The single most important thing was that this was a story that highlighted almost a female soulmate, your very best friend who is your best friend from the time you’re 13, for all of your life,” the author said in a recent interview with TheWrap. “We don’t sort of see enough of that representation on TV. I do think that the series has done an amazing job of creating these two women who, as different as they are, you absolutely believe that they love each other, and when the chips are down, they’re going to be there for each other.

“Firefly Lane” Season 2 Part 1 marks the beginning of the end of the Netflix series’ adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s best-selling 2008 novel, closing on quite the cliffhanger before we see how the story ends in Part 2 sometime in 2023. And for creator Maggie Friedman, this was the ideal way to close out this adaptation.
“Part of it was that we were able then to make it all at once and write it all at once, rather than have that lag in between seasons, which can be quite a long time,” she told TheWrap of the decision to split Season 2 into two halves. “I knew where I wanted the story to end and what I felt was like [was] a satisfying conclusion to the series. It just felt natural rather than make a Season 2 and then wait however long, to just kind of do it all at once. And so I think this way,...

Opposites often attract in the best of friendships, and that’s true of the sweeping tale of Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl) and Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) in the Netflix series “Firefly Lane,” adapted from the bestselling novel by Kristin Hannah. Not only do Kate and Tully compliment each other personality-wise, but the way they choose to live their lives down the road also complete the two supposed “halves” of adult womanhood.
Like in Hannah’s novel, Season 2 Part 1 of the Netflix show continues to expand the three separate timelines of the core female friendship that it sews together. Two younger actresses portray the teen versions of Tully (Ali Skovbye) and Kate (Roan Curtis) when they first meet in the seventies, but their bond stretches far into the future, all the way to the new millennium 2000.

Every day I think about “Lost.”
This is not about my undying love for the serpentine ABC drama from 2004 (though don’t tempt me); Lost was this TV fan’s first exposure to flashback-based storytelling in a TV show, which it didn’t invent but certainly deployed with enviable efficacy. Each Lost episode focused on a specific character, following their narrative in the present and a related chapter of their past via flashback. It’s a format viewers will recognize from “Yellowjackets,” “Orange is the New Black,“ “This is Us,” and more — but the flashback structure takes on a twisted new form in Netflix’s “Firefly Lane,” which returned Friday for a second season.

“Firefly Lane” Season 2 has arrived, and with it comes another loaded lineup of signature songs for the seventies, eighties, nineties and early 2000s. Throughout the shifts between three separate timelines in Tully and Kate’s friendship, needle drops help distinguish which part of their lives we’re watching, especially when it gets confusing between the older versions of Kate Mularkey Ryan (Sarah Chalke) and Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl). Kristin Hannah’s 400+ page novel off of which the television show is based uses certain songs and lyrics to introduce the new decades, or parts of the book, like Abba’s “Dancing Queen,” Pat Benatar’s “Love Is a Battlefield” and more.
Season 2 boasts two Whitney Houston songs — “I’m Every Woman” and “How Will I Know” — Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors,” The Knack’s “My Sharona,” Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody” and “Closer to Fine” by The Indigo Girls.

Season one of the drama, based on the bestselling novel by Kristin Hannah, debuted in February 2021 and starred Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as lifelong best friends who stuck by each other’s side through thick and thin. Heigl and Chalke are back as Tully and Kate, respectively, for the second season. They’re joined by returning cast members Ben Lawson as Johnny Ryan, Ali Skovbye as young Tully, Roan Curtis as young Kate, Yael Yurman as Marah, and Beau Garrett as Cloud.
Netflix’s official description:
“What could possibly have ended the tight-knit thirty-year friendship of Tully and Kate, our ‘Firefly Lane Girls Forever?...

Kate and Tully’s personal lives are a bit of a mess in the new trailer for Firefly Lane‘s final season — but at least they’ve got each other, and as many pints of ice cream as Tully can comfortably carry.
In the preview embedded above, Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl’s BFFs navigate everything from new professional endeavors (Tully’s making a documentary!) to complicated romances (Kate and Johnny aren’t really over, right?). And it seems their long friendship with one another might hit a few snags, too, if the 1:40-ish mark of the trailer is any indication.

It's official: season two of "Firefly Lane" is coming soon. The series follows two best friends named Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) and the ups and downs they've faced through the years. It's basically everything you love about soapy dramas like "Sweet Magnolias" and "Virgin River," with a twist of "This Is Us."
Unfortunately, the second season will be the series' last, Netflix revealed on Oct. 3. The final season will consist of a total of 16 episodes split into two parts.
Since the last episode of the first season ends on a major cliffhanger, we're already curious to know what will happen next. And given that it's based on Kristin Hannah's book series of the same name, there's plenty of inspiration to draw from. While there's no telling how closely the second season will follow the second book, "Fly Away," there are still plenty of storylines to explore in future episodes.

Firefly Lane is finally setting a return date for its long-awaited second season, which will officially be the show’s last at Netflix. After debuting with 10 episodes in 2021, the series will make its Season 2 return on Friday, December 2. The second half of the farewell run will launch sometime in 2023. (Credit: Diyah Pera/Netflix) Based on the book by Kristin Hannah, Firefly Lane will continue to follow the story of Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke). Season 2 asks the question, what could have possibly ended their 30-year friendship? The former self-professed “Firefly Lane Girls Forever,” will finally offer fans some answers. But before we get those answers, we’ll follow along as Kate grapples with the painful aftermath of Johnny’s (Ben Lawson) ill-fated trip to Iraq, and...

The upcoming Hulu series “The Girl from Plainville” re-examines the infamous texting-suicide case that rocked headlines in the mid 2010s.
Elle Fanning leads the series, premiering March 29, as Michelle Carter, who was prosecuted in the case following the death of her boyfriend Conrad Roy III (Colton Ryan). The real-life court case was at the center of Jesse Barron’s 2017 Esquire article of the same name, and was captured in the 2019 HBO documentary “I Love You, Now Die.”
The Massachusetts-set Hulu saga revisits Carter’s alleged abusive behavior, encouragement, and persuasion that was thought to have led to 18-year-old Roy’s suicide.
A first-look trailer shows Fanning as Carter copping to thousands of “messed-up texts” that seemed to “encourage” Conrad to take his life. Per Hulu, the series explores Carter’s relationship with Roy, the events that led to his death, and later, her trial and conviction of involuntary manslaughter. Chloë Sevigny...

Exclusive: When Calls the Heart‘s Chris McNally has landed heavily recurring roles on two series — Paramount+’s upcoming Grease prequel Rise of the Pink Ladies, and season 2 of Netflix’s Firefly Lane, opposite Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke.
Rise of the Pink Ladies takes place in 1954, four years before the original Grease, before rock ‘n’ roll ruled and before the T-Birds were the coolest in the school. It follows four fed-up outcasts who dare to have fun on their own terms, sparking a moral panic that will change Rydell High forever.
McNally will play Mr. Daniels, a young, cool teacher, so he’s well-liked by many, but he is actually a bad guy who threw a 16-year-old student under the bus for coming onto her, and tries to gaslight her into thinking he didn’t.

Mélanie Laurent was getting close. With less than a week to go before she was set to start shooting her first studio-backed feature film — a long-gestating adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s bestselling historical novel “The Nightingale,” with real-life sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning as a pair of estranged siblings caught up in World War II — the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic shut down production in Budapest.
More than a year later, Laurent’s studio debut is still in a holding pattern, but the prolific French filmmaker, actress, and singer isn’t wasting any time: in the interim, she’s already completed another film, “The Mad Women’s Ball,” premiering this week at the Toronto International Film Festival, with a planned Amazon release this fall. It seems nothing can stop Laurent from creating, even if nature itself has forced her to pivot.

Firefly Lane topped Nielsen’s U.S. streaming rankings for the week of February 1 to 7, with WandaVision recording its best week yet in terms of total viewing.
With 1.3 billion total minutes of viewing for its 10 episodes, Firefly Lane was the only title north of the 1 billion mark for the week. Based on the novel by Kristin Hannah, the drama stars Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke. It is created and executive produced by Maggie Friedman, who is known for shows like Witches of East End.
WandaVision, on Disney+, notched a series high with 589 million of viewing across five half-hour episodes. It was the lone non-Netflix entrant in the top 10. Because of the Disney release pattern, episodes have rolled out weekly after the first two appeared at the same time on January 15. As with The Mandalorian, the release strategy has allowed the Marvel show to gradually build audience and buzz. While it ranked No.

‘Bridgerton’: Netflix Hit Series Boosts Original Novel Sales, Vitamin String Quartet Catalog Streams
Bridgerton, which has become Netflix’s biggest series ever, continues to raise the bar as the series-turned-cultural phenomenon handed Julia Quinn and the Vitamin String Quartet boosts in book sales and streams, respectively. Netflix revealed that following the show’s explosive December debut, Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels moved up into the New York Times Best Sellers list, with The Duke and I holding the list’s top spot for four weeks. At some point in January, five novels from Quinn’s Bridgerton saga were among the New York Times’ top 10 best-selling books. The Shondaland series, however, isn’t the only book-inspired Netflix title getting literary love. Kristin Hannah’s Firefly Lane appeared on the Top 10 list a month before the show’s premiere and currently remains at #5. Netflix added that Walter Tevis’ The Queen’s Gambit and Maurice Leblanc’s original 1907 work Lupin also saw an increase in sales upon...

TriStar’s “The Nightingale,” starring Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning, was pushed another year and will now be released on December 23, 2022, Sony announced on Friday.
“The Nightingale,” which was in preproduction before worldwide film shoots halted last March, was initially due to be released on Christmas Day 2020. It was then pushed and was scheduled to be released this year on December 22.
In December 2019, TheWrap exclusively reported that Mélanie Laurent (“Galveston”) would direct the period drama from a script by Dana Stevens. Elizabeth Cantillon was to produce through her production company The Cantillon Company. Based on Kristin Hannah’s worldwide best-seller of the same name, “Nightingale” marks the first time the Fannings will play sisters on screen.
“The Nightingale” follows two sisters coming of age in France on the eve of World War II and their struggle to survive the German occupation of France. The story is inspired by the courageous...

To note: A Court of Silver Flames is a spinoff book that is part of a series, so some spoilers for A Court of Thorns and Roses, A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, and A Court of Frost and Starlight lie ahead!
It's been over four years since Sarah J. Maas released the final book of her A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy about Feyre Archeron and three since its first spinoff, A Court of Frost and Starlight. And while some fans were slightly disappointed with the latter - as it was a bit, well, *fluffy* rather than action-packed - readers will not be let down by Maas's latest spinoff, A Court of Silver Flames, which mainly centers on Feyre's sister, Nesta, and Illyrian warrior Cassian as Prythian faces a lingering threat posed by one of the human queens who returned to the...

You know how they say history repeats itself? Well, if you need proof, pick up a copy of Kristin Hannah's latest novel, The Four Winds. The story of the Martinelli family, and particularly the relationship between mother Elsa and daughter Loreda, is a familiar one, but it's told so beautifully that you can't help but invest yourself in their lives. The story centers on Elsa, but weaves in and out between the perspective of Elsa and Loreda, giving you a more complete look at the family's circumstances and highlighting the different realities of mother and daughter. Elsa begins the book as a quiet, unloved little girl, and we watch her pour all that love she wished she had gotten into her children, Loreda and Ant. Life on a farm in 1930s Texas is excruciatingly difficult, and after a barrage of dust storms, Elsa takes her family to the promised land of California,...

Kristin Hannah is a spectacular author - I'd even say she's my favorite due to the sheer number of her novels I've read and recommended to others. Like any good writer, she makes you feel like you're right there in the story, seeing everything she's painting out in words in vivid color rather than black and white on a page, and her 2008 novel Firefly Lane is no different. This story captured my heart and brought me along for the wild ride that is the life of "TullyandKate." I couldn't put the book down, even when my laughter turned into tears and back to laughter again. I felt genuinely attached to each and every one of the characters and the role they played in bringing the story together.
Sadly, all of these wonderful aspects of the book did not come together on screen for me, and my feelings while watching the...
