Creatives behind sperm donor series All & Eva have said the show represents a new wave of auteur-driven Scandi drama.
The era of The Killing and The Bridge dominating Scandi fare at events such as Series Mania is long gone, director Johanna Runevad and producer Sofie Palage told Deadline in the week leading up to All & Eva’s international competition screening at the Lille confab.
The pair pointed to hit Swedish dramedies that have aired of late including Viaplay’s Love Me and HBO Max’s Lust.
“Ten years ago, the only thing Sweden exported was crime shows and Nordic noir,” said Palage. “Now, the international audience is more likely to watch Swedish shows on other topics. You can do any genre and people will watch. Although I still love crime, it’s great that we don’t only have to do crime.”

“All and Eva,” starring “Annihilation’s” Tuva Novotny, has been acquired by Australia’s Sbs, Eitb, the Basque Country public broadcaster in Spain, and Vodafone TV in Greece, ahead of its SeriesMania premiere.
“We are extremely excited about the fast-growing global buzz around this charming dramedy and thrilled for many more markets to come on board, once they see this fresh and captivating take,” noted Vanda Rapti, Viaplay Group EVP, Viaplay Select & Content Distribution.
The new series – created, written and directed by Johanna Runevad – accompanies Eva (Novotny) on her way to Copenhagen to obtain sperm from a donor. Just before insemination, she decides to find him. Luckily, Mads (Joachim Fjelstrup) seems perfectly normal. But then, clueless that Eva is already pregnant with his child, he knocks on her door in Stockholm.
“I would call it a romantic comedy with a twist,” laughed Runevad.

Pop-country phenoms, Harmonica ruled the circuit, boasting sold-out arena tours and lavish lifestyles. When they find themselves on the other side of that fame decades later, Monica (Josephine Bornebusch) and Harry (Jonas Karlsson) have to decide whether to embark on a reunion tour or stay firmly planted in their present-day, lives racked with grief and angst. Their marriage on the brink of collapse, the two agree to take one last shot at living their passions outright, the traumas they’ve accumulated in tow.
Vivid flashbacks establish a profound dichotomy in this Swedish-language, Viaplay Original drama series. The cast, rounded out by Eric Ericson (“Department Q”), Nina Zanjani (“Hedda Gabler”), Jorgen Thorrson (“Border”), and Dag Malmberg (“Gåsmamman”), offers sporadic comedic relief while serving to superbly flesh-out the scenes of excess and tension.
At its core “Harmonica,” is a story of true love grown apathetic, ravaged, holding on by a thread. Produced...
