Chicago – There’s something about “Puncture” that feels like it should work. It’s easy to see why someone thought this true tale of a troubled man who realizes he has been presented with immense responsibility would make an engaging film, but the fact is that having an interesting true story doesn’t always translate to riveting drama. Despite the interesting facts of the legal and personal drama at its core, “Puncture” is surprisingly flat (no pun intended) and, even with a very-good lead performance, isn’t memorable enough to recommend.
Chris Evans does career-best work as Mike Weiss, a small-town attorney who just started a practice with his good buddy Paul Danziger (Mark Kassen). Their little firm struggles to make ends meet by taking horrible personal injury cases and occasionally getting tossed an interesting potential settlement from a buddy (Jesse L. Martin) at a major firm. Paul has...

We hope that every film is created because a writer had a story that they felt compelled to tell the world, a director who felt obligated to share his vision, and actors who were so driven by the story and opportunity that they simply could not sleep at night if they didn’t participate. It is from this fire that something wonderful, organic, and important can jump off the screen and into our lives, leaving some sort of indelible mark on us as we shuffle out of the theater.
And then there are films like Puncture.
This contrived, convoluted mess is less a movie than an erector set of sentimental gimmicks meant to make us feel without ever giving us the impetus to actually do so. A nurse (blink-and-you’ll-miss-her Vinessa Shaw) accidentally contracts AIDS but lives just long enough for us to see her bond with her adorable young children.

HollywoodNews.com: Adam and Mark Kassen’s Puncture, with a screenplay by Chris Lopata and a story by Paul Danziger and Ela Thier, is a rare film based on a true story where one cannot help but wonder if the actual nonfiction version is more interesting than what we see on the screen. The film details a true story of a suit filed by a young nurse (Vinessa Shaw) who was pricked by an HIV-contaminated needle while on the job. But the film spends less time on the legal aspects of the case than on the personal life of its lead crusader. That the film would rather be a character drama than a legal thriller is I suppose admirable, but the legal story is far more interesting than the character melodrama.

Puncture, although a true story, is really the Chris Evans show. Evans stars as Mike Weiss, a Houston lawyer with uncanny debate abilities that are only hampered by his drug addiction. He and his partner, Paul Danziger (played by co-director, co-writer and star Mark Kassen), are enlisted by an ER nurse who has been punctured by a patient’s needle and contracted HIV.
At its heart, Puncture is not about the ER nurse seeking retribution against the hospital. The film is a corporate greed story with the medical equipment business square in the filmmaker’s cross-hairs. Vicky (Vinessa Shaw) is passionate about fellow nurses not contracting diseases as she has and knows of an inventor who has created a needle that may only be used once and therefore, will never re-prick anyone. Its use has far-reaching impact as audiences learn that large amounts of the spread of HIV in Africa...

Mark Kassen and Chris Evans / Courtesy of Millennium Entertainment Puncture, which premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival (and secured distribution out of Tff), is based on a true story, centering on Mike Weiss (Chris Evans), a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict. Paul Danziger (played by Mark Kassen, who also co-directed the film with his brother Adam), Weiss' longtime friend and partner, is the straight-laced and responsible yin to Mike's yang. Their mom-and-pop personal-injury law firm is getting by, but things really get interesting when they decide to take on a case involving Vicky (Vinessa Shaw), a local ER nurse who is pricked by a contaminated needle on the job. As Weiss and Danziger dig deeper into the case, a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy teeters on exposure, and heavyweight attorneys move in on the defense. Chris Evans didn't always feel entirely cool or comfortable in his Captain America costume. "Sometimes you put it on and you're like, 'What am I doing? What is this? How can this be taken seriously?'" he admitted to MTV News. "We're trying to create a reality to believe in. But I'm running around in a red, white and blue outfit? This is so silly."
What does the 30-year-old actor think of his "Puncture" wardrobe — an ever-changing assemblage of gaudy ties, boldly-colored dress shirts and rumpled suits? Well, a fashion symbol in this film he certainly is not...but that's kind of the point. Evans plays a drug-addicted lawyer named Mike, a guy with a penchant for prescription pills, questionable attire and social justice. As part of our Fall Movie Preview, we've got an exclusive clip from the upcoming flick, which hits theaters on September 23, in which many of these affinities are made clear.

For a little over a month I've been receiving emails about a new film called Puncture, which stars Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger) as a young Houston lawyer and functioning drug addict and I hadn't added it to the database until a few minutes ago. The film is obviously buzzy considering it stars the man who is Captain America, but also because it will make its way to theaters later this month on September 23 and finally I have gotten around to adding the film to the database along with the poster, eight pictures, the trailer and a just released clip from the film featuring Evans and co-star Brett Cullen (Ghost Rider).
I didn't watch the trailer, but I did watch the clip and if I take the description and the clip into consideration I get something of a cross between The Verdict and Erin Brockovich vibe from what little I know.

Marvel star Chris Evans (Captain America, Fantastic Four) is taking on a somewhat weightier role in the upcoming lawyer drama Puncture. Chris Evans has already become a hero by donning the iconic Captain America suit. Now the actor is ready to become a darker hero. Evans stars in the conspiracy lawyer drama Puncture. He will play a very unconventional lawyer who plays by his own set of rules and is addicted to drugs. Directed by Adam and Mark Kassen from a screenplay by Chris Lopta, the film centers around a young, drug-addicted lawyer (Evans) who takes on a case that pits him against a massive healthcare conspiracy. Brett Cullen, Jesse L. Martin, Michael Biehn, Kate Burton, Tess Parker, and Marshall Bell also star, with Vinessa Shaw as Evans’ ER nurse client.

[1] Way back before we knew Chris Evans would become the next Captain America, he took [2] a role in a small indie drama titled Puncture. Directed by Adam and Mark Kassen from a screenplay by Chris Lopta, the film centers around a young, drug-addicted lawyer (Evans) who takes on a case that pits him against a massive healthcare conspiracy. Brett Cullen, Jesse L. Martin, Michael Biehn, Kate Burton, Tess Parker, and Marshall Bell also star, with Vinessa Shaw as Evans' ER nurse client. Watch the trailer after the jump. [via First Showing [3]] I'm not really feeling the trailer. It's difficult to tell what Puncture is actually about, other than a guy who's "not your normal lawyer" taking on something that's "not his normal case," involving something that's "not the normal crime" -- which sums up pretty much every lawyer movie out there. Cliched lines like "At least I have the courage to lose for what's right!

Chris Evans has been something of a rising star of late, and if you didn’t know his name a few months ago, you almost certainly will by now after taking the lead in the recent Marvel blockbuster, Captain America: The First Avenger.
His new film, Puncture, is set to be released in September in the States, and we’ve now got the first trailer and poster for the film, via Millenium Entertainment and ComingSoon.net respectively.
So used to seeing him in action films like Captain America and Fantastic Four, it might be pretty easy to forget that Evans is also a great dramatic actor, and this new trailer shows off that he’s got talents far beyond being able to stand tall and look good.

Chris Evans spent the summer proving to audiences that he's good at cleaning up the world's messes as the titular freakishly tiny, and ultimately freakishly muscle-bound superhero in "Captain America: The First Avenger," but his latest role has him ridding the world of evil in a new, and unexpected way.
In "Puncture," the trailer for which premiered on Coming Soon, Evans stars as Mike Weiss, a Houston personal injury lawyer who spends his time outside the courtroom keeping some sordid company while fostering a nasty drug habit.
Despite his demons, Weiss' career is still ticking along when he meets Vicky, a nurse who has been pricked by by a contaminated needle at work and turns to Weiss's firm for representation.
Weiss and his law partner, Paul Danziger, played by "Puncture" co-director Mark Kassen, decide to take the case after finding out that a potentially life-saving treatment is being kept off the market,...

Millennium Entertainment has released the first trailer for Chris Evans’ “Puncture”, in which Captain America takes off the stars and stripes, grows a beard, does some lines of coke in a motel with some skeevy folks, but still manages to fight for the little guy. Albeit I don’t think he throws anything around like, say, a shield or such. Check out your first trailer for “Puncture” below. Mike Weiss (Chris Evans) is a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict. Paul Danziger (co-director Mark Kassen), his longtime friend and partner, is the straight-laced and responsible yin to Mike’s yang. Their mom-and-pop personal injury law firm is getting by, but things really get interesting when they decide to take on a case involving Vicky (Vinessa Shaw), a local ER nurse, who is pricked by a contaminated needle on the job. Millennium Entertainment (via Coming Soon) has released the trailer and poster for the Chris Evans-starring Puncture.
Mike Weiss is a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict. Paul Danziger, his longtime friend and partner, is the straight-laced and responsible yin to Mike’s yang. Their mom-and-pop personal injury law firm is getting by, but things really get interesting when they decide to take on a case involving Vicky, a local ER nurse, who is pricked by a contaminated needle on the job. As Weiss and Danziger dig deeper into the case, a health care and pharmaceutical conspiracy teeters on exposure and heavyweight attorneys move in on the defense. Out of their league but invested in their own principles, the mounting pressure of the case pushes the two underdog lawyers and their business to the breaking point.

Captain America star Chris Evans has a whole new bag in the film Puncture. The film’s trailer and poster (courtesy of ComingSoon) have debuted giving audiences insight into the legal thriller unlike any you’ve ever seen.
In the film based on a true story, Evans plays Mike Weiss, a Houston attorney who is also a functioning drug addict. He can live day-to-day and doesn’t let his habit hurt his professional career. Mark Kassen pulls double duty as co-director and stars as Weiss' teetotaler legal partner, Paul Danziger. The pair work at a personal injury law firm.
When Vinessa Shaw’s Vicky shows up at their firm, the ER nurse has a case that will change the duo’s life forever. The title of the film arises from what happens to Shaw’s nurse when she accidentally takes a shot from a tainted needle in the hospital where she works.

In Captain America: The First Avenger, Chris Evans played a young man who, after being injected with a drug, gains superhuman strength and fights to protect the world from the evil organization known as Hydra. Puncture, however, shows a different side of Evans. Sure, he's still introducing foreign chemicals into his body, but they don't exactly have the same magical effects. Directed by Adam and Mark Kassan, Puncture stars Evans as Mike Weiss, a Texas-based, drug-addicted lawyer who finds a huge case land in his lap when an ER nurse (Vinessa Shaw) is pricked by a contaminated needle. Weiss and his partner, Paul Danziger (Mark Kassan) decide to take on the health supply corporation responsible. Check out the film's first trailer below.

"Well, at least I have the courage to lose for what's right!" No, this isn't a horror film, it's a legal drama starring Chris Evans. The official trailer for Puncture, directed by brothers Adam & Mark Kassen, the latter of whom stars in this as Paul Danziger, recently debuted in high def on the First Look YouTube (via Latino Review) and it's worth watching just to see what this is all about. This time the legal battle is over a retractable needle to prevent nurses from being accidentally infected, but the major corporations don't want it, and they have the power. It looks considerably intriguing, I'm going to seek this out whenever it arrives. Watch the first official trailer for Adam & Mark Kassen's Puncture here: A "David and Goliath" law drama about a drug-addicted lawyer in Houston, battling his own personal demons, who takes on a health supply corporation defending...

Now that Captain America has officially made him a star, it’s the perfect time for the Chris Evans film Puncture to get released. The legal drama premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival, and I was lucky enough to see it; I gave the movie a rather positive review, and it was probably one of the better things I saw there this year.
The trailer has just appeared online (via LatinoReview), and the main thing it does is give a good glimpse at Evans‘ great performance. This is probably the best work we’ve seen from him so far, where he allows his charisma to make a very flawed human being entirely likable. The directorial work of Adam and Mark Kassen — who are making their feature debut, and the latter of whom has a prominent role — is also shown to a strong effect, with some of their excellent shot choices on display.

In brothers Adam and Mark Kassen’s based on a true story movie “Puncture”, Captain America aka Chris Evans plays a lawyer and “functioning” druggie who takes on the big corporations for the little guy. Or in this case, the little lady. See, in that way, he’s still sorta like Steve Rogers, except instead of slinging his shield at Nazis, he’s, uh, doing lines on your coffee table and taking big corporations to court. Yeah, same difference, right? Anyways, here’s your first look at Evans and company in “Puncture”. Mike Weiss (Chris Evans) is a talented young Houston lawyer and a functioning drug addict.
