What’s Good: The procedural part of a crime investigation is deftly shown. This includes how the police correlate observation and thought with evidence and forensic angles. The performances are more than competent and there is a tangible atmosphere in most of the film. I also liked the unexpected turns that come at periodic intervals and the way the villain’s unrepentant character is presented.
What’s Bad: The script not only meanders in places but, more importantly, incorporates silly gaffes and flaws that could have been completely eliminated by some basic thinking. The post-climactic sequence where the cops are discussing the case jars...

Breathe 2: Into The Shadows (Amazon Prime Video)
Starring Abbhishek Bachchan, Nithya Menon, Amit Sadh, Saiyami Kher
Directed by Mayank Sharma
In Mani Ratnam’s Raavan Abhishek Bachchan played Raavan. In Breathe 2, Raavan plays Abhishek. There are mindgames based on the expression of each one of Raavan’s ten heads, manoeuvring Abhishek’s character through a series of clumsy capital crimes . So mindless are these mindgames that one is grateful Raavan had only 10 heads. If there were more, this series may have extended itself into some more episodes. And Breathe would have killed us all with the sheer lack of breathing space in the plot.
This is not to say that the storytelling is taut. Not at all! Loose-limbed and shaggy to the point of seeming lazy, the indolent tone of narration would have been excusable were it not so ridiculously self-important. It is hard to believe that it took four writers(Bhavani Iyer,...

OTTThe inspiration from Hollywood films like 'Shawshank Redemption' and 'Seven' is quite apparent.Saraswati DatarAny parent would agree that when it comes to protecting their child, there is little that they will refuse to do. The premise of the Breathe series on Amazon Prime Video is simple enough — Would you take a life to save the life of your child? After the first season that saw R Madhavan take lives to make sure his son gets an organ transplant in time, Breathe: Into The Shadows, tells the story of Avinash and Abha Sabharwal (Abhishek Bachchan and Nithya Menen) whose 6-year-old daughter Siya (Ivana Kaur) gets kidnapped from a birthday party. After a tortured search for over nine months, the couple is contacted by her kidnapper with news that she is alive and well but that to keep her that way, they will have to kill a man. Avinash...

Starring Arjun Rampal, Aishwarya Rajesh, Nishikant Kamat, Farhan Akhtar
Directed by Aushim Ahluwalia
Ask any actor of some worth. It is not easy to play a known living character. Audiences and the character that you are playing, plus their close associates, judge the performance with scrutinized harshness and normally find it wanting.
Not this time. Not Arun Gawli. Not Arjun Rampal who has shaped into one of Hindi cinema’s most dependable actors who does his roles with such smooth efficiency and such noiseless excellence that we are liable to miss the point.
Don’t make the mistake of confusing Arjun’s laidback wisdom in portraying the gangster-philanthropist-parliamentarian-convict Arun Gawle, as a Devganesque laziness. This is a power-packed implosive performance. Rampal plays Gawli as a time bomb waiting to explode. There are no extra toppings, fringe benefits, perks or bonuses to this performance.
Rampal plays it straight. Auteur director Ashim Ahluwalia...
