After a peek at director Robert Rodriguez’s action thriller “Hypnotic” at this year’s SXSW, audiences won’t have to wait much longer to catch the full version in theaters this spring.
IGN has unveiled the first official trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller, which follows police detective Daniel Rourke (Ben Affleck) as he searches for his missing daughter Minnie (Hala Finley). He soon learns she is associated with a series of ongoing robberies conducted by a mysterious man (William Fichtner) with hypnotic powers.
The trailer gives audiences a look at how Affleck’s frantic search for his missing daughter. The desperate dad slowly begins to spiral out of control once his investigation pushes him to confront his deepest, darkest fears. With assistance from psychic Diana Cruz (Alice Braga), Daniel sets off to pursue the mysterious man during his train of robberies, and get Minnie home safe. As he finds out in the trailer,...

Suicide Squad is one of the most anticipated movies scheduled to debut next year. There are several things comic and superhero movie fans are looking forward from this movie, including watching Will Smith play a bad guy, and having Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) on the big screen for the first time. But, possibly the most looked forward to aspect of the movie has already been discussed quite a lot: Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker, which had an unexpected effect on his co-stars. In an interview with Hhb Media, actress Corina Calderon talks about the impact watching Leto’s performance had on her. She said: Jared Leto as the Joker is just brilliant. I was amazed, absolutely mesmerized. Watching him really gave me this whole new freedom as an actress. I felt ballsy just watching him. An amazing lesson and an amazing teacher, but he didn't ...

Almost all the roles in Suicide Squad are accounted for...except for a precise few. Is Scott Eastwood Deathstroke, Dick Grayson or just a member of Taskforce X? Is Jim Parrack Joker henchman Johnny Frost? Is rapper/actor Common playing Bronze Tiger or Tattoo Man? There's also Alex Meraz and Corina Calderon, who currently have no rumors about what role they'll play in David Ayer's film. Ike Barinholtz also doesn't have any rumors about who he's playing in Suicide Squad but apparently, it's someone not very nice. "I can tell you my character in that movie is someone you would not want at your house for dinner. He’s a very troubled human being. " Sounds like Barinholtz is not one of the (few) good guys appearing the film. Then again, these are all hardboiled criminals being forced to do heroic things by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and the Us...

The Internet is like Vegas -- what happens there stays there, even when you try to delete it. The "Suicide Squad" trailer played to high praise at Comic-Con, and there was a glimpse of a guy walking ahead of the Joker. (You can see it around the 2:14 mark of the trailer below.) That's actor Jim Parrack (Hoyt on "True Blood") and it has apparently been confirmed that he's playing Jonny Frost, aka the Joker's (Jared Leto) henchman.
The first rumors about this casting came from TheWrap's Jeff Sneider, who said (a few months ago) that he'd been told from reliable sources that Parrack would play Jonny Frost. Confirmation just recently came from a now-deleted Instagram photo from actress Corina Calderon. She has a small role in the movie and posted a photo of herself, writing, "All #HappyCamper on my way to set again, going earlier than my #CallTime just...

Thought working at Jurassic World was the worst movie-job going? Think again.
Thanks to the fine chaps at Screenrant we now know who Jim Parrack will play in Suicide Squad; Joker’s bodyguard Jonny Frost. Let that sink in for a moment. Joker’s bodyguard. As in The Joker. You know, pencil wielding wacko who just wants to watch the world burn? Jeez. Hope it comes with dental.
The scoop comes courtesy of co-star Corina Calderon, who tweeted:
“All #HappyCamper on my way to set again, going earlier than my #CallTime just to be there and watch my boy Jim Parrack playing #JonnyFrost do his Thang #SuicideSquad.”
Calderon’s own part is largely unknown (although we know she’s called Grace) but the actress has erased any doubts over Parrack’s contribution. The tweet has since been deleted, but as Josh Trank can attest, the internet’s printed in ink not pencil.

Actress Corina Calderon appears to have accidentally revealed on social media that "True Blood" actor Jim Parrack is playing The Joker's henchman Jonny Frost in David Ayer's upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie.
The character was created for Brian Azzarello's 2008 work "Joker" and can be glimpsed in the trailer helping the Joker storm an as yet unidentified building at gunpoint. The role was rumored to be that of Deathstroke at one point, a role Parrack's former co-star Joe Manganiello was also up for, but it looks like that's not the case.
In other news, Bill Westenhofer has come onboard as visual effects supervisor on the "Wonder Woman" movie which begins shooting as early as this Fall in London.
Westenhofer has won several Oscars for his work on "Life of Pi," "The Golden Compass," the first Narnia" film and is handling Duncan Jones' upcoming "Warcraft" film adaptation. Considering his expertise with photo-realistic creatures,...

For a movie that did so much filming in full view of the public Suicide Squad has been remarkably good thus far in keeping us in the dark on a number of topics. One of those is the role being played by True Blood's Jim Parrack. Now we have some confirmation of who he will be. Parrack will be playing Jonny Frost. As has become common these days, the news comes from a social media post that probably should not have been posted, but Batman News found the Instagram post from actress Corina Calderon, who has a brief role in the film. Her caption gives away the Jonny Frost info revealing her 'boy Jim Parrack playing #JohnnyFrost". The post has since been deleted, making it clear that she said something out of turn. How many leaks would never happen if it weren't for social media? For those who aren...

It appears former True Blood actor Jim Parrack’s role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has finally been confirmed. It was rumoured a good while back that he might be playing Deathstroke (much to the chagrin of many fans), but more recently The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider suggested that he will actually be portraying a character named Jonny Frost – and that was evidently accurate.
Actress Corina Calderon, who has a small role in the movie, posted the following to her Instagram page:
“All #HappyCamper on my way to set again, going earlier than my #CallTime just to be there and watch my boy Jim Parrack playing #JonnyFrost do his Thang #SuicideSquad”,

Well, someone's getting fired. Little known actress Corina Calderon has posted the following to Instagram confirming that Jim Parrack is playing...Johnny Frost. We first heard that Parrack would be playing this character back in April, but never received official confirmation. Frost was created by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Lee Bermejo for their critically acclaimed Joker series in 2008. Would you have preferred Deathstroke? Eeeee...

Twitter brings largest collection of Bts images for cast of Suicide Squad. Ordinarily, this sort of Bts footage, from a supposedly ‘dark set,’ would be considered a leak. I wouldn’t call this a leak; I’d call it a whole lot of soup bones, tossed out to keep rabid fans at bay.
Still, fans should be grateful – these practical shots should provide a better idea of the cast & character design workability (read: sans-fotoshop promo poster, pre-post production CGI after effects). While Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Killer Croc is bound to be singled-out, for fan deconstruction, it was Will Smith’s Deadshot that got the lion’s share of coverage – understandable, considering that his was the only character fully decked out, and in action.
While I did get a little preoccupied by the sermonizing, around Deadshot’s neck (is anyone he faces expected to read that?), I suggest everyone else try...

It’s the last LatinoBuzz Shipwrecked Edition of 2014! It’s where we love to abandon Latino artists on a deserted island to fend for themselves in hopes they will reveal something like, that their favorite album is by Train - the one with Hey, Soul Sister on it - and they have no idea that anytime that song is played, somewhere in this world a kitten is kicked. However, as we go into a brand new year we want to introduce to you these amazingly talented Latinas who you will be hearing about so much very soon. Seriously, it’s been a great year at LatinoBuzz and we want to say thank you for all your support from all of us! Please give these Latinas tons of support! Happy New Year!
Jessica Molina
Album
Jessica: Easy! Mumford & Sons – Sigh No More. This album will never get old or played out to me. The band is not a Christian band, but I seriously have a spiritual experience when I listen to this album; the way they talk about love, life, doubt, joy – I go on a journey with them and I’m assuming if I’m stuck on a deserted island a journey in my mind will be a much needed escape. The lyrics along with brilliant accompaniment (I’m hooked the moment I hear a banjo) would make for awesome beach jam sessions or chill reflective nights by the fire. Note to self: learn how to build a campfire.
Film
Jessica: Alone on an island, I’ll need some good laughs! My film choice is "The Birdcage" starring Robin Williams, Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria. My family has so many inside jokes related to this film, so it would be like having a little piece of home with me. I was really emotional when Robin Williams died and I tried to understand why his death felt personal. But it made sense considering I grew up on Robin Williams’ films. He’s apart of some of my favorites like "Hook," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Aladdin," so without a doubt I’d want this film on the island with me.
Book
Jessica: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. This feels like a cliché response, but I think that’s because it resonates with and inspires so many people. This book will always be timeless for me. The first time I read The Alchemist, it was like someone found my diary and wrote this book as a response to all my fears and questions. It inspired me to be true to myself and has offered me comfort in reminding me that God has a plan for my life.
Fictional Character
Jessica: Originally I was going to say Katniss Everdeen from "The Hunger Games," but honestly, I don’t think she’s much of a conversationalist. Yeah, she can kill dinner for me, but I need someone who is going to keep things interesting too, so I’m going to go with Jake Ballard from Scandal because all that poor man wants to do is stand in the sun. Plus, he knows how to get a good bottle of wine to a remote island!

Veronica Sixtos
Album
Veronica: If I were stuck on a deserted island having music to soothe my weary heart would make my loneliness bearable. The album Speak for Yourself by Imogen Heap would have to be it. I've listened to her powerful music throughout my childhood and even now as an adult the heavenly melodies and softness of her voice open up my heart in a way that make me want to love more as well as receive more love. She inspires hope and inner strength.
Film
Veronica: What film?...well let's see, my sister Andrea (Sixtos) already said "Cast Away" ( http://bitly.com/1ne929b) would be her choice so although it would be pretty useful I'd rather choose something else. No one likes a copy cat. I asked my boyfriend what he would bring and he responded with "Lord of the Flies" so in case other humans landed on the island he'd know how to take them out. I'm more of a team work, peace and love, hugs are scientifically proven to be beneficial to ones health, kinda gal. So, I don't think that would be my choice. Laughter is medicine. I'd take the movie "Knocked Up."
Book
Veronica: Autobiography of a Yogi. It would bring me back to spiritual reality which would then dissipate most of the fear and loneliness. If I'm consistently reminded of the divinity within myself a life of solitude wouldn't be so difficult to endure. I wouldn't have so many earthly distractions to interfere in my search for God. Perspective plays a huge part in survival. Let's just hope I don't have to get stuck on an island to truly figure that out.
Fictional Character
Veronica: Okay, I'm gonna cheat a little on this one. The question was which fictional character from film/tv would I bring as a companion... Well, my character originally comes from a cycle of books called The Inheritance Cycle. They did make a movie based on the first one in 2006 called "Eragon" of which I have refused to watch because of the fear of utter disappointment. I don't want anything to distort my beautiful depiction of the world of Alagaësia and all of the treasured characters within it. Anyway let's get back to answering the question. I would bring as my companion, Saphira Bjartskular, the blue dragon known to be the last of the female dragons remaining in the lands. I would hope to be fortunate enough to be magically bound to her by becoming her rider. We would read each others minds and feelings and she would protect me from danger and I'd cuddle up under her wings and feel the warmth of her fiery belly. Yay. Happy thoughts.

Catie Waters
Album
Catie: I would take Far by Regina Spektor. I first heard this album many years ago when a friend passed it on to me. I slowly fell in love with her sound and the entire album. I think it would be a perfect album to bring because I love the overall quirkiness and adventurous melodies it brings. Plus, listening to “Eet” on a deserted island for the rest of my days would not be so bad.
Film
Catie: There is no doubt; I would bring "Life is Beautiful." It’s an incredible story of a Jewish-Italian waiter and his young son being forced onto a train and taken to a concentration camp. In order to shelter and preserve his son’s innocence amidst the horrors of their environment, he assures his son their time spent in the camp is a game. His inspiring devotion to his son can give a spark to anyone in need of motivation. This movie would remind me to continue to be alive and kicking.
Book
Catie: It is a little tough to choose one because in all honesty knowing myself; I would want to take all of my books from my personal library. However, since I must choose one; I think Looking For Alaska by John Green would be a great read to have on a deserted island. I cannot tell you how many times I laughed so hard that I cried to crying a little for real while reading this book. For me, it is one of those books you can go back to again and again.
Fictional Character
Catie: Hands down, Cosmo Brown, from "Singin’ In The Rain" would be my chosen compadre. He is incredibly absolute in his optimism and is unfailing in finding resolve in any issue that is tossed his way. I believe his can-do attitude would lead the way to a successful survival.

Corina Calderon
Film
Corina: So, Film would be "Urban Cowboy" with John Travolta and Debra Winger, hands down! My #1 Favorite movie. I had it on VHS when I was a little girl and I would and still can watch it over and over and always find something new that I've missed, its a love story, not perfect but real. Plus being a Tejana from the great lone star state ;) it’s a Texas based film with Great country music.
Book
Corina: Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho, it’s my favorite book and I still read it from time to time. That book changed my life forever. I still lived in Austin, Texas when I read that book for the first time but while reading it I finally summoned the courage to finally make my move to La to pursue my dreams as an actress no matter how scary or uncomfortable it seemed. It reminded me to be strong, have strong faith and trust my heart always and in any situation.
Album
Corina: That would definitely be Any of Selena’s albums. My two younger sisters and I grew up listening and dancing to her music. I met Selena and A.B. Quintanilla y Los Dinos for the first time in Matamoros, Mexico when I was about 4 or 5 and I was a fan instantly and forever. Watching Selena dance inspired me as a little girl to finally put my creativity into motion, giving me the courage to say, "If she can do it I can do it too!" She looked like me! She was Latina. Back then there weren't as many Latinos in the entertainment business and she really paved the way for a lot of us. Her music would remind me to not give up!
Fictional Character
Corina: Oh Man! That would be Jessica Lange as Fiona Goode in "American Horror Story Season 3". She's a bad bitch/witch who has all the powers as a supreme to survive or get through any situation no matter who or what stands in her way! She'd have my back! Aint nobody or nothin’ messin’ with us on that island.
Chelsea Rendon
Album
Chelsea: I have to go with Taylor Swift's new album 1989. I know it's a kinda lame answer since it just came out but I seriously love the album start to finish. It puts me in a good mood and if I'm stuck on an island I would definitely want to dance around to something to make me happy.
Film
Chelsea: I would go with one of my all time favorite movies "Friends With Benefits"! I have literally seen this movie at least 20 times and it never gets old! Seriously, I don't mind seeing it over and over again. Plus it has Justin Timberlake - Hello eye candy!
Book
Chelsea: Wilderness Survival For Dummies! It will help me stay alive and it wont be all complicated so I can understand it. Especially if I haven't had anything to eat for a while, my brain starts to shut down, so this book is perfect!
Fictional Character
Chelsea: I would go with Alan Parrish aka Robin Williams in "Jumanji." Hello it’s Robin Williams! But as his character he got swallowed up into the game and survived for years in the jungle. If he can do that he can definitely keep me alive and since it’s Robin Williams I know he would make it a fun experience!

Luciana Faulhaber
Luciana: This is the toughest question for me to answer since music is such a big part of me. My life always has its own soundtrack that keeps changing with time. At this moment I have been very much into musical theater soundtracks. I love how they transport me to another world and make me dream. Spring Awakening and Once are amongst my top albums and they find away back into my life year after year. However, I just saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Michael C Hall and those songs resonated with me. I would take the Hedwig and the Angry Inch album recorded by this cast and this rock and roll band. It has everything, love, loss, tenderness, anger, surrender and such an awesome band arrangement. I imagine I would feel all those things stranded on a deserted island and knowing someone else felt the same way once would make it a lot less deserted.
Film
Luciana: When I was a child, we only had one TV in my home. My mother would put us to sleep and I would wait until there was no more noise and I would sneak to the living room alone to watch TV. I grew up in Brazil and the show playing late was called the "Hour of the Owl." They only played black and white movies, which I loved. I would have to watch them with the sound off not to wake anymore. That's when I feel in love with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies. To this day these are the movies that made me fall in love with movies; that made me dream of love stories. If I could only take one film I would take "Top Hat" and dream of days that I only had to worry about my mother catching me up and sending me back to bed.
Book
Luciana: Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. In this book, like her memoir, Cheryl shares so many stories of her personal life that get me to reflect on my own. An island would be the perfect time to reflect and come to peace with some of my own stories. Amongst so much beauty is a great place to find your best self. Like many people, the end of the year is a time looking back on the year. See how much was learned and lived and also a time of planning, of coming to terms and seeing ahead. A deserted island would be that multiplied and uninterrupted. And once I was rescued, because I believe I would, I could use all that I learned about myself and begin again, anew.
Fictional Character
Luciana: I would take Vincent from St. Vincent because he would have amazing stories to share! People are the only true endless source of knowledge. After my iPod runs out of charge and the music and the film are gone, after I've read my book so many times I've memorized it and burnt the pages for heat, we would still have our stories. Vincent was also a veteran so in practical terms he would not afraid of a battle for survival. He was also kind and compassionate. And truth is, besides the life we lived, what else can we really take with us from this world?

Yainis: Right now my favorite is Taylor Swifts' 1989 album so I'll definitely take hers!
Film
Yainis: If I'm stuck in an island I'll have to have a comedy! So "Rush Hour 2" would be in my back pack!
Book
Yainis: The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho. I can read that book over and over again.
Fictional Character
Yainis: I'll choose Iron Man. He's smart and can fly, so he can get me off that island! Haha

Album
Noemi: The same album Starlord had in "Guardians of the Galaxy" only my version with more Michael Jackson tracks because he was abducted by aliens right when he lost his mom and he still turned out to be a badass! Goes to show you what music and art do to the soul.
Film
Noemi: I would take "Castaway." Duh!
Book
Noemi: My Shakespeare collection book. So I can act out the plays, play roles I wouldn’t traditionally be cast in, and find new discoveries every day.
Fictional Character
Noemi: Jack Sparrow. ‘nough said.

Yainis Ynoa
Album
Yainis: Right now my favorite is Taylor Swifts' 1989 album so I'll definitely take hers!
Film
Yainis: If I'm stuck in an island I'll have to have a comedy! So "Rush Hour 2" would be in my back pack!
Book
Yainis: The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho. I can read that book over and over again.
Fictional Character
Yainis: I'll choose Iron Man. He's smart and can fly, so he can get me off that island! Haha

Noemi Arte Gonzalez

Benavides, a small town in south Texas, is the setting for the 2011 slice-of-life drama All She Can. Immigrants attempt passage over from Mexico, drug searches occur regularly at the high school, and senior Luz (Corina Calderon, End of Watch) worries she may be stuck. She hopes her weightlifting prowess can net her a scholarship to The University of Texas at Austin ... but this film doesn't follow the formula of your typical sports movie. Heck, All She Can doesn't really follow any typical formula at all.
The plot of this narrative feature seems anything but far-fetched. For instance, since her family has no internet access, Luz has to use a computer at the town library to Skype with her older brother Jm (Jesse Medeles), who is stationed in Afghanistan. The military seems the only career path open to many of her peers. She's accepted into Ut Austin, but her mom can't...

Valentine's Day is here! For some, it's a day full of joy and hubris, where cherubs are your local baristas complete with handle-bar mustaches. It's a day you ride unicorns to work and nothing will get in the way of you delivering those flowers you fought for like “This is Sparta”. This day your wildest dreams will be exceeded and you may even get a marriage proposal! Nothing can top this feeling of euphoria – not even Luther Vandross singing 'Always and Forever’ to a bunch of dolphins can top that sh*t... And then there's those for whom the day is abhorrent and full of rue. It's like a herpes breakout - an embarrassing reminder that somewhere you went wrong (like the time you proposed on Valentines Day). A catalog of memories of past failed romances, all accumulating in one day. You wish you had been 'catfished', so you would have never met them at all... Anyways, LatinoBuzz got to chop it up with young Latino Hollywood about their most romantic films, their cine-crush and in the spirit of los haters de San Valentin: their worst date!
“I think I'll have to say Natalie Portman in 'Garden State'. 'Love her in that. Maybe minus the helmet and epilepsy but I think I'd be able to deal with it. Something about a beautiful woman that can make me laugh. My favorite romantic film has to be Charlie Chaplin's 'City Lights' - Beautiful! One of my favorite movies ever, and not a word is spoken. I remember seeing it at the age of 16 for the first time and it made my heart explode. And 'Pretty in Pink' always makes me feel like I'm 'Duckie' at heart” - Jorge Diaz, 'Love, Concord', 'Filly Brown'
“My worst Valentine's date was when my ex-boyfriend spent the day with his best friend instead of me because his best friend's birthday is on Valentine's Day. He tried to make up for this by scheduling our date for February 13th instead of the 14th. He had a nice dinner date and a movie planned but his best friend (the birthday boy) and his other friends crashed our entire date and took over. Dinner was awkward and the birthday boy joined us after and even chose the movie. The worst was what happened during the movie, I decided to lay my head on his shoulder and because I was wearing a hat he couldn't see my eyes and he thought that I had fallen asleep. His phone received a text message from a girl that read "Happy Valentines baby! Miss you and care about you. You're very special, I hope your girl knows what she got". And that's when I found out he had been cheating on me!!!” - Francia Raisa, 'Chastity Bites'.
“Favorite Romantic Film: 'The Umbrellas of Cherbourg' is probably the most romantic story I have ever seen. This film moves me in a way no other film has. No matter how many times I see it I always cry and that to me is wonderful. It is a story of impossible love accompanied by the most beautiful music and color. Although the main characters do not end up together, the film shows their early stages of love and courtship so beautifully. One can be so lucky to experience such hope and blissfulness, even for just a moment. It is anything but predictable just the way life and love really is” - Diane Guerrero, 'Emoticon'
“Lou Diamond Philips as Richie Valens in 'La Bamba'. I dreamt of him serenading me to "Oh Donna" when I was younger. I still swoon at the thought of it. Lou is so young, handsome, and hopeful and "Richie Valens" is such a tragic hero. To have a man write and sing you songs, I mean come on, it doesn't get anymore dreamy than that. I married a poet and he writes me poems, I guess I made my dream come true!” -Julia Grob, 'East WillyB'
“I was once set up on the worst blind date ever. It was like eating dinner with Dr. Jekyll and Mrs Hyde. One minute she was trying to wine and dine me and the next she was throwing every insult you can imagine my way. It was very confusing” - Roberto Aguirre, 'Struck By Lightning'
“My crush would be Salma Hayek... Come on now, do I really need to say any more? She's perfection” - Joseph Julian Soria, 'Army Wives', 'Mission Park'
“My favorite romantic movie is 'True Romance'. Always. A reckless love story. When two unlikely lovers cross paths and fall madly in love in record time and he fights to the death for her freedom from her pimp so they can run away together with millions of dollars worth of drug money!? Oh! My heart melts” - Alicia Sixtos, 'East Los High'
“My perfect cine girlfriend would have to be Kate Winslet! She is not only stunning, but also ridiculously talented and the British accent doesn't hurt either. She had me at Titanic! And 'King Kong' is the most romantic film of all time! There is nothing more touching that the love of a giant gorilla and Jessica Lange. Lol! Seriously, 'Out of Africa' is my favorite romantic film. How can you beat Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, and the music by Stephan Grimes really punctuates a beautiful true story” - Jeremy Ray Valdez, 'Mission Park', 'H.O.M.E'
“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Just a great film! We all wish we could forget that someone who may have caused us pain. It's a bitter sweet movie and bitter sweet is what love is all about”- Rayniel Rufino, 'Trouble in the Heights'
“Lisa Bonet circa late 80's early 90's, hands down! I think she's just gorgeous. Everything about her screams Take Me On A Date Ej! I have an agreement with my girlfriend. I'm allowed to cheat on her with early 90s Bonet” - E.J . Bonilla, 'Four', 'The House That Jack Built'
“My favorite film is 'Big Fish' by Tim Burton and although it's not a traditional romantic film, it definitely showcases “Love” the way I like to think it truly is. That movie inspires me every time I watch it. Ewan McGregor is the perfect leading man in this film and it makes me believe in love at first sight. My worst date ever would have to include too much Pda. There is nothing more unattractive than two people in public doing what should be done in private. I also would be tortured if I went on a date with someone who smells bad and talked only about themselves haha!” - Denise Bidot, 'Curvy Girls', 'Habla'
“Matt Bomer!!! Oh wait, I'm barking up the wrong tree aren't I? But goodness, look at that face! My fave romantic film is definitely Dirty Dancing. It's actually my favorite movie, period. I don't care if I sound cheesy or corny, I've loved that movie ever since I can remember. Yes, I watched it as a kid and my mom would make me close my eyes during certain parts. It's nice to be able to watch the full movie now, even though I still feel like someone's telling me "cover your eyes" sometimes haha.” - Janine Larina, 'East Los High'
“I can say, best boyfriend from any era of film would have to be the dude from the movie 'The Princess Bride'! What's that dudes name? Oh, he was so delicious and heroic! Chivalry at its best! I don't admire men often but when I do it's the dude from 'The Princess Bride'. Omg Worst Date Ever was with this dude about 2 years ago! I want to say his name only for the small, minute, almost impossible possibility that he would read this because he should know how awful it was! But alas I won't! He took me to this bar, Village Idiot, for dinner and if tossing his car keys to the valet while he walked in the joint (keys that were definitely not caught by valet) wasn't obnoxious enough, he then told the hostess "best table, they know me here" except No they didn't! We proceed to sit down and he goes on this rant about how much money he has, who he knows and why he is the ultimate La bachelor! As I sit there stirring in my contempt for this over the top ridiculous man, he stops and says "Well it's not ladylike to look so ugly, smile at least!" I wanted to stab him with my fork! I respond "Well I usually smile when I'm happy, entertained, excited and I'm none of those right now. I would like to leave...now" and with that I dropped cash on the table and walked right out. Worst date ever! Gina Rodriguez, 'Filly Brown', 'Sleeping with the Fishes'
“It'd have to be January Jones and of course, in the Mad Men era. What is that, the 60's right? I love the show but also hate it because Don Driver gets to come home to her. There's something about how patient and loving she is. Such a soothing voice. I'd let her talk my ear off”- Walter Perez, 'Mission Park'
“My favorite romantic film would definitely be 'Amelie', because it's about a young girl on a journey fueled by love, the love of helping others selflessly and in the midst of it all, she falls in love with a quirky guy who collects photo booth pictures. It's a sweet little unique story, not to mention it was such a musical inspiration for me, I can play majority of the songs from it on the piano - Just so lovely!!! I'd highly suggest adding it to your movie list”– Andrea Sixtos, 'Sunset Stories'
“The Wedding Planner, because they were going down different paths but still ended up together. For awhile after I watched the movie I would only eat the brown M&Ms haha! And worst date, one Valentines Day I was supposed go out with my boyfriend, he picked me up and when we got in the car we had a huge fight and broke up. So the date just made it to the drive way” - Chelsea Rendon, 'A Better Life', 'Kill Kapone'
“Andy Garcia in 'When a man loves a woman' and the worst date ever was the time when this guy took me out and tried to get me drunk so he could hit it. He left me stranded on 6th Street in Austin Texas” - Corina Calderon, 'All She Can', 'End of Watch'
“I had two horrible dates with the same person. The first date we went to a karaoke bar and he got sexually molested by his ex-girlfriend. He told me about it and he felt really uncomfortable. He wanted to leave and I wanted to confront her. So we stayed and I took her outside and she and I exchanged words. We agreed to be civil, but I missed my turn and never got to sing. The second horrible date happened a couple months into our relationship. We went to 'Lucky Strike' for a birthday party and ran into another ex-girlfriend who swore they were meant to be together and that he shouldn't be bringing me into her work. Long story short, I laughed and asked her to get me a coke. I never got the coke. After all that drama, we are still together and It only took him a over 1000 good dates to make up for those two” - Veronica Diaz-Carranza, 'Blaze You Out', 'Taco Shop'

(Sharon Swart is assisting Deadline’s Sundance coverage) Sundance has a reputation for putting new acting talent in the spotlight. Recent years have yielded more break-outs on the distaff side, such as Carey Mulligan (2009's An Education and The Greatest) and Jennifer Lawrence (2010’s Winter’s Bone). Both went on to receive Oscar nominations. This year’s festival films again showcased multiple talents poised to find wider recognition. While slightly more established actors such as Felicity Jones (in Like Crazy), Juno Temple (in Little Birds) and Olsen twins' sibling Elizabeth Olsen (in Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House) made a big impression this year, following are a few other names that are emerging: Corina Calderon: She stars as a willful South Texas teen gunning to win a powerlifting championship in Sundance competition film Benavides Born. The role isn’t far from her own life experience, says the young Latina,...

Many people born in small towns hope to escape, a dream that is oftentimes easier said than done. Simply wanting to get out is not usually enough as there are only so many roads out, and the competition is often fierce. Much like competitive weightlifting, you have to push yourself as hard as you can, taking on as much weight as you can and hoping you don't prematurely drop it. And even then, you have to hope your best is better than your competition because, at least when it comes to competitive weightlifting in Texas, "you gotta win -- there's no scholarship for second place."
Luz Garcia (Corina Calderon) can only hope of getting out of Benavides, Texas by going to the University of Texas at Austin. She's already been accepted and has good grades, but has not been able to pull any academic scholarships. Her family can't afford to...

It has been another great year of film. I still have but seven movies left to watch before I complete my “Best of the Year List” but we are already looking towards 2011.
The 57 feature films selected for the four competition programs of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival were announced today, and the titles include some exciting works from returning filmmakers. While the lineup isn’t has loaded with big names it does feature the return of James Marsh whose documentary Man on Wire won the Grand Jury Prize at the fest in 2008. Some interesting movies we should mention that appear on the list are Mike Cahill’s Another Earth, Carlos Moreno’s All Our Dead One (Todos Tus Muertos), Anne Sewitsky’s sexual drama Happy, Happy (Sykt Lykkelig) Rashaad Ernesto Green‘s Gun Hill Road, Sean Durkin‘s Martha Marcy May Marlene, Andrew Okpeaha MacLean‘s On the Ice, Dee Rees...

As we’re getting ready to wrap up another great year of film, some are already looking to 2011 and what it will have to offer and what better way to look a head than with the first round of titles for the year’s first big festival: Sundance.
The list of festival titles isn’t as loaded with as many big name titles as have made the cut in previous years but there’s are definitely some interesting film in the competition line-up including Mike Cahill’s Another Earth which takes place on the eve of the discovery of a duplicate Earth (wicked!), Carlos Moreno’s All Our Dead One (Todos Tus Muertos) about a guy who finds a pile of dead bodies in the middle of his crops, Anne Sewitsky’s sexual drama Happy, Happy (Sykt Lykkelig) along with the Canadian/Japanese co-production Vampire.
Loads of great stuff on the line-up.

The announcement of the movies playing the 2011 Sundance Film Festival is like looking into our film futures. It's December and most movie fans are looking back at the last 12 months, picking out award winners, writing top ten lists, and chances are we haven't even heard of the Sundance films. They're just titles, people, words on a computer screen. Then in January they unspool on screens across Park City, Utah and become something more. Finally, months later, these are the movies we discuss with our friends and choose on ballots at awards parties. Yet we get to read about them now, a year in advance. Last year at this time, who had heard of Four Lions, Catfish, Exit Through The Gift Shop, Blue Valentine, The Kids Are All Right, Winter's Bone, Restrepo or Animal Kingdom? Sundance, that's who. All those films screened at the 2010 festival and now many have become not only personal favorites,...

Let me toot my own horn a bit. Of the 16 selected films out of 1,102 submissions, I accurately predicted 12. Out of the four that didn't fly on my radar we find American New Wave 25 selected Sean Durkin, who will make it back to back years in Park City. He featured the marvelous, creepy Mary Last Seen there, and would start lensing Martha Marcy May Marlene in the summer...but my thinking was he was Cannes-bound with this one...he may still be, but Sundance is world preem launching pad for the pic. Sam Levinson's debut film, which formerly went by "The Reasonable Bunch" and now has a conflict of interest with the Aussie film by the same title (The Loved Ones) has plenty of star wattage -- but I think the real reason to be buzzed about the film in young actor Ezra Miller who broke out in Afterschool and...

Here's the first Sundance line-up announcement, of the fiction and nonfiction feature competitions, both U.S. and world. A few things of interest, on first scan: Vera Farmiga's directorial debut "Higher Ground," in which she also stars; "The Ledge," which sounds like this year's try for "Buried"; Iñupiaq Arctic thriller "On the Ice"; "Terri," the new film from "Momma's Man" director; Michael Rapaport's doc on A Tribe Called Quest "Beats, Rhymes and Life"; doc about the beloved Muppet "Being Elmo"; "If A Tree Falls," a new film from "Street Fight"'s Marshall Curry; Paddy Considine's feature directorial debut "Tyrannosaur"; and "Vampire," the new film from Japan's Shunji Iwai, a favorite of mine.

The Film Stage is headed to Sundance this year and the festival has just announced its line-up. With over 10,00 entries here is what they narrowed it down to. Most initially notable is Vera Farmiga‘s directorial debut, Higher Ground (pictured above). There is a clear lack of stars as NYTimes notes, so the excitement of discovery is back in full swing. The fest will also announce 6 more out-of-competition categories tomorrow. Check out the full list below via the official site.

Well, here they are – the Sundance Film Festival class of 2011, split up into 4 categories as indicated by the headers below. In future posts, I’ll be going over the complete list, highlighting titles that need to be, taking into consideration this blog’s specific interests.
Of note, some titles that I listed on my list of 2011 black films on our radar… Gun Hill Road, Rashaad Ernesto Green’s debut feature (which I actually saw a cut of over the weekend, and gave a thumbs up to; but I’ll talk more about it in detail when the time comes), Dee Rees’ Pariah, and Alrick Brown’s Kinyarwanda. Further, titles we’ve previously covered here… Beats, Rhymes and Life, Michael Rapaport’s documentary on hip-hop legends, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Redemption of General Butt Naked, a documentary on the Liberian warlord turned evangelist.
