Private investigator Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez) has been going it solo since partner Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks) left Hawaii five months earlier. But personally on Magnum P.I., he’s secretly coupled up with tough Honolulu Police Department detective Lia Kaleo (Black Lightning’s Chantal Thuy). “We’re about two months in so it’s still the honeymoon phase, where things are sweet and tender,” Thuy says. “It’s the good phase of the relationship where you’re still uncertain about how things will develop, but you’re open and open to see.” As for what draws the pair together, Thuy explains Lia likes his compassion, and they “can understand each other because [they] talk the same language.” One key reason to stay mum: Her partner is Gordon Katsumoto (Tim Kang), who often lectures Magnum over the Pi’s not-even-close-to-the-book methods. “The stakes in Katsumoto finding out are higher for her [than for him],” Thuy adds.

Magnum P.I. has added Black Lightning‘s Chantal Thuy to the Season 4 mix — and with this exclusive casting news, a recent TVLine Blind Item is solved.
When last we tuned into the Hawaii-set CBS procedural, Magnum (played by Jay Hernandez) bid Juliet Higgins (Perdita Weeks) a tender farewell, as his sleuthing partner left to accompany her beau Ethan (Jay Ali) on his six-month Doctors Without Borders gig in Kenya. The goodbye was laden with unexpressed emotions, given that Thomas had earlier posited to the fellas that he and Higgy were perhaps destined to be “more” than friends and business partners.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from tonight’s series finale of The CW’s Black Lightning.
On Monday, Black Lightning came to the end of its four-season run on the CW, signing off with a passing of the torch.
When series finale “The Book of Resurrection: Chapter Two: Closure” opens, it looks like our hero Black Lightning (Cress Williams)—aka Jefferson Pierce—might soon be shuffling off this mortal coil. Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) has the superhero right where he wants him—namely, in a coffin buried underground.
Fear not, though. In the end, Black Lightning is able to escape by harnessing his powers in a way he’s never been able to before. Tobias, meanwhile, ends up dead, after he’s thrown out his office window, impaled and electrocuted by Black Lightning.
With his epic battle for the future of Freeland over, Pierce finds himself in a festive mood,...

Chantal Thuy has successfully shapeshifted into a series regular for Season 4 of The CW’s Black Lightning, where she since season 1 has recurred as metahuman Grace Choi.
“Chantal Thuy embodies the character of Grace Choi,” showrunner Salim Akil said in a statement. “I am sure our Black Lightning fans knew, especially those who follow the Grace and Anissa relationship storyline, that having Chantal join as a series regular was only a matter of time. I am elated to finally welcome her officially to the team.”

Exclusive: Grace Choi is officially here to stay on The CW’s Black Lightning. Chantal Thuy, who plays the shapeshifting metahuman on the Arrowverse superhero drama, has been upped to series regular for season four.
Grace Choi is based on the Black Lightning comic created by Tony Isabella with Trevor von Eeden. Thuy first appeared as a recurring character in the first season and she developed a relationship with Anissa (Nafessa Williams) who is also known as the metahuman Thunder and/or Blackbird. The Grace and Anissa broke ground as an on-screen queer superhero couple of color — and they were about to get married before the War for Freeland interrupted things.

Sony’s long-in-the-works “suite” of TV series based on Marvel characters controlled by the studio is getting closer to reality.
I hear Sony is in talks with Amazon to be the SVOD distributor of the high-profile package of shows, which includes multiple titles. The first, which was identified by Sony Pictures TV about a year ago and had been in development at the studio, is Silk. Lauren Moon, a writer on Sony TV’s Netflix series Atypical, wrote the TV adaptation based on the Korean-American comic book superhero, created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos.
Silk would mark one of the first comic book series led by an Asian-American character. There have been many Asian comic book characters in TV series and in film. Often times they are seen as a supporting character or part of a larger ensemble. This dates all the way back to Bruce Lee in the 1960s Green Hornet series.

During the DC FanDome virtual event, women of color in the DC universe gathered to discuss their experiences in their roles and why representation is so important and impactful in today’s world.
Moderated by Estelle and D-Nice, the panel consisted of Meagan Good, Darla in “Shazam!”; Candice Patton, Iris West-Allen in “The Flash;” Nafessa Williams, Thunder in “Black Lightning;” Chantal Thuy, Grace Choi in “Black Lightning;” Anna Diop, Starfire on “Titans;” Damaris Lewis, Blackfire on “Titans;” Tala Ashe, Zari Tarazi from “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” and Javicia Leslie, who was recently announced as the titular character in the second season of “Batwoman.”
When asked how being cast as Starfire in “Titans” has changed her life, Diop mentioned the amount of backlash she received for being cast in the role.
“There was a lot of backlash because some people were upset that it was a Black woman that they cast.

We’ve all thought about what we would do if we had superhuman meta abilities like the powered characters in our favorite comic books. During the Bawse Females of Color Within the DC Universe panel at DC’s Fandome virtual event, the Bipoc female stars of DC superhero TV tell us what they would do if they had their heroes’ powers in real life.
Tala Ashe, who plays Zari in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow says, “I’m on a time travel show, so I have a lot of changes I’d love to make to history. There’s a lot of dates. There’s a date in like 2016 in November, I’d go back there first.” We can all agree that 2020 is the worst timeline, so really, what can go wrong? Chantal Thuy, who plays Grace in Black Lightning says “I would use shape shifting power to swap some people out of the office.

Blerds just want to have fun and DC FanDome has two events primed for exactly that – with a panel celebrating the women of color in the DC universe, as well as a virtual after-party hosted by “Club Quarantine” mastermind DJ D-Nice.
“I’ve always been a Blerd — I was into comic books growing up and I loved video games,” D-Nice tells Variety in advance of Saturday’s events.
But even though his favorite superhero is Batman, don’t expect him to DJ in a full Batsuit; he’s opting to wear a DC t-shirt instead. “It’s too hot, so no cosplay for me, but of course I’m going to represent,” he laughs. “I’ve got to be part of the spirit of what we’re celebrating.”

Fans hoping for major DC news in lieu of an actual San Diego Comic-Con are definitely going to get just that at DC FanDome, a digital event designed to be watched at home like a real con.
Originally set up as one epic night of panels and reveals, DC announced that it will be splitting FanDome into two separate and distinct events: Hall of Heroes, which will be held in late August, and WatchVerse in mid-September.
The August date still holds most of the big-ticket items. It’s billed by DC as “an epic world designed personally by Jim Lee featuring special programming, panels and exclusive reveals from a wide variety of films, TV series, games, comics and more.” Functionally, it’s the Hall H of FanDome.
This DC FanDome trailer gives fans a good glimpse at what they can expect from the event:

Speed and star-power: Those are the two clear goals for the DC Fandome virtual event on Aug. 22, which released its full schedule Friday.
Over 100 hours of content stretching across the film, TV and comic book properties from DC Entertainment will unfold over a 24-hour period on the Saturday event, including panels featuring the filmmakers and casts of “The Batman,” “Wonder Woman 1984,” “The Suicide Squad” and the Snyder Cut of “Justice League,” and the casts of TV series including “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Batwoman,” “Black Lightning” and “The Flash.”
Most of those panels, however, will run just 15 to 30 minutes in length. The panel for the upcoming feature film version of “The Flash,” with filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti, star Ezra Miller, and screenwriter Christina Hodson, will clock in at a speedy 10 minutes. (The briefness of that panel could also be due to unresolved questions surrounding a video of Miller appearing...

Dick Wheeler, the lead character – he’s hardly a “hero” – in Tracy Letts’ Linda Vista, a very funny new play about a very sad, not very likable man, is the type of determined, opinionated loser who has reached middle age with both a decided pride and worn-down boredom with his own contrariness, his mental library of trivia and hard-knock wisdom having left him with little more than a flabby gut, a failed marriage, a few sticks of cheap furniture and the confidence that he alone knows best which Ali MacGraw movie showed the actress at her sexiest and why Radiohead’s Thom Yorke is nothing but a “scrubby little poser”.
