Director: Chad Archibald. Writer: Jayme Laforest. Cast: Aidan Devine, Ava Preston, Jess Salgueiro, Michael Reventar and Ari Millen. I'll Take Your Dead is the latest horror film from director Chad Archibald and his production house Black Fawn Films. Also developed by Breakthrough Entertainment and writer Jayme Laforest, I'll Take Your Dead could only have been shot in the snowy climes of Ontario. One part gangster thriller and one part ghost story, I'll Take Your Dead begins with a father - trying to protect his daughter. His work of choice is dissolving bodies, for the local gangbangers. Not much later, Act II slows the film's plot development, while supernatural elements waver in and out of the film. Overall, I'll Take Your Dead is a decent thriller, which requires a bit of patience. The ghost story elements begin with a robbery. But, what are the rules for ghosts entering or exiting scenes and being seen?...

Part crime thriller and part ghost story, I’ll Take Your Dead is like a Joe Lansdale novel that’s occasionally interrupted by Lucio Fulci. It’s the latest Shout! Studios release from producer/director Chad Archibald, whose list of credits include The Drownsman and Bite, and it’s his most confident and assured feature to date.
Aidan Devine plays William, a reclusive farmer known among the criminal community as The Candy Butcher because he moonlights as a disposer of bodies, cutting them up into pieces and dissolving them in an acid bath. His young daughter, Gloria (Ava Preston), having grown up around death her entire life, sees the ghosts of her father’s “work” around the house. When a group of killers drop off a body that isn’t what they think it is, William and Gloria have their quiet life turned upside down, possibly for good.

Director Chad Archibald first came to my attention with the slasher that isn’t half as popular as it should be, The Drownsman (it could easily be an ongoing franchise). He followed that up with the intriguing Ejecta and then the gross-out body horror of Bite. The Heretics is the latest offering from a director that is not afraid to shake things up.
The Heretics takes what is a simple story of a woman being kidnapped and turns it completely on its head. What we also get are cults, suicides, crazy girlfriends and some sort of demon. That’s quite a lot to pack into an hour and twenty five minutes. But pack it in it does and the time flies by… Pretty much jumping straight into...

The first trailer for the supernatural thriller I'll Take Your Dead has been released. Developed by Black Fawn Films and Breakthrough Entertainment, this indie feature focuses on a father and daughter. They live out in the country, while making bodies disappear. Except, something or someone has been left behind. This title was shot in Hamilton, Ontario - by director Chad Archibald; the script was written by Jayme Laforest. As well, I'll Take Your Dead stars: Aidan Devine (A History of Violence) Ava Preston (The Odd Squad), Jessica Salgueiro ("The Strain") Brandon McKnight (The Shape of Water) and many others. The first trailer, for I'll Take Your Dead, is below. The trailer begins simply enough. One character needs some "garbage" disposed off. But, this garbage consists of a number of bodies. William (Devine) goes through his process of breaking the bodies up into more manageable bits. But, then someone wakes up.

There are plans to bring horror title The Heretics to Canadian theatres. The theatrical launch begins this November. And, the film involves a cult, a demon and one man's attempt to keep evil at bay. *full disclosure: an online screener was provided by the film's pr' firm. Direct: Chad Archibald. Writer: Jayme Laforest. Cast: Nina Kiri, Ry Barret, Jorja Cadence, Nina Richmond and Will King. Black Fawn Films is likely the biggest Canadian indie horror film producer. This film company has completed at least eight titles, in just a few years. Their latest is titled The Heretics and it was written by Jayme Laforest, who also wrote 2015's Bite. Both films deal with body horror and a female protagonist. This title incorporates one of the worst sex scenes, in recent film history. Always say no to demon sex, no matter how attractive the offer is. The story, within the film, deals with the birth of a demon - Abaddon and his desire to end the world. Similar to Jon Knautz's The Shrine (2011), characters are overcome through possession. In The Heretics, this reduces the protagonist's ability to resist evil.

Pro tip, ladies: A pregnancy test that comes up positive might just mean you are incubating some exotic fish-bug nasties. Ask your doctor! I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for stories about women
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

Well, crap. Shoulda done my research. If I’d known that Canadian no-budget body horror flick Bite was from the same guy, director Chad Archibald, who was also responsible for the idiotically incoherent sci-fi horror Ejecta, I would have just skipped it. Instead, I found myself subjected to the astonishingly silly notion that bath beads covered in industrial quantities of K-y Jelly are somehow scary. When Casey (Elma Begovic) gets home from her bachelorette trip to Costa Rica, she discovers that a bug bite she acquired there — in, natch, one of those remote secret foreign places in the jungle that...

As a survivor of Septic Man‘s sewer-sludge yuckiness, I saw Bite‘s disgusting reputation not as a warning, but as an invitation. What’s a little gross-out body horror capable of, really? Sure, Fantasia Festival attendees reported that Chad Archibald’s metamorphosis tale caused viewers to “faint, puke, and need medical attention,” but after watching it myself, I question the constitution of said fainters. Maybe it’s just because I’ve witnessed the worst of the worse (an occupational hazard), or because I’ve been blessed with my father’s iron gullet, but Bite never sent me reaching for a barf bag. While this might disappoint true masochists, Bite doesn’t need perverse gimmicks to win over horror fans – there’s a story worth watching all in itself, even if it won’t make you vomit.

It may be a bit rough around the edges, but there’s a lot to enjoy about director Chad Archibald’s Bite. In a day and age when most genre fans feel like they’ve seen just about everything, his take on body horror is boldly refreshing and offers up a few unexpected twists that I genuinely appreciated. Bite also boasts some of the most impressive production design and practical special effects I’ve seen on the indie level in some time, and it is anchored by an effectively unnerving performance by up-and-coming actress Elma Begovic.
Bite follows reluctant bride-to-be Casey (Begovic) to the tropics for a bachelorette weekend with a few of her gal pals (Annette Wozniak, Denise Yuen). What’s supposed to be a relaxing, fun-filled trip ends up becoming a nightmare for Casey in more ways than one. She ends up an intoxicated mess, gets entangled with a predatory stranger,...

While Bite might not be a perfect movie, nobody who calls themselves a horror fan will have any excuse not to enjoy it.

Chad Archibald has been making quiet a name for himself in genre cinema (and in my movie collection) over the past few years, whether it’s producing awesome action movies like Bounty Hunters, starring WWE’s Trish Stratus; or more horrific fare like Hellmouth and the fantastic Antisocial. More recently Archibald has also directed a number of horror hits, including last years Frightfest film The Drownsman and this years cause célèbre, Bite. Which has, if you believe the hype, been causing a furore at screenings around the world, with walkouts and vomiting amongst other audience afflictions…

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Black Fawn Films. Director: Chad Archibald. Writers: Jayme Laforest, Chad Archibald. Cast: Elma Begovic, Annette Wozniak, Jordan Gray, Denise Yuen. Director Chad Archibald (The Drownsman) is guaranteed to make your skin crawl in his icky entertaining horror film, Bite! What begins as a seemingly banal scenario with stereotypical females on a bachelorette party vacation, turns out to be a gripping grim tale of transformation, betrayal and revenge. Archibald is clever in setting his audience up with a potential snore fest, then creeping in to deliver a strong story with good characters and a healthy dose of gooey gore. Somewhat reminiscent of Cronenberg's The Fly (1986), though revolving around infection not experiment, this film belongs inside the category of “body horror.” That said, it nearly crosses over into a creature-feature, and dips its feet into the realm of horror comedy. Whatever you want to call it,...
