Apple Original Films today set the Martin Scorsese-directed Critics Choice and Golden Globe Award-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon to begin streaming globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 12.
This comes after a $156 million global box office performance on the film that stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, with a breakout turn from Lily Gladstone. Apple’s rollout of the film, starting with a Cannes premiere and then a full global theatrical release by Paramount, sets an intriguing template for big budget streamer films going forward. It hits the streaming service right in the awards season wheelhouse, and it is considered a frontrunner.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is back to eat the weekend box office with a fork and knife as the concert film grooves to $5.9M as an estimated Thursday total. The Sam Wrench-directed movie gives Swifties a front-row seat to one of the most in-demand tours in decades, pulling $98.7M at 3,855 theaters overall. These numbers are all the more impressive, considering the Eras Tour exits theaters Monday through Wednesday, building hype for a weekend-centric theatrical event.
Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon also screened in cinemas on Thursday, blooming with $2.6M in previews. Showings for Scorsese’s latest epic – which we loved – began at 2 p.m. due to the film’s 3 hours and 26 minutes runtime. No one knows if Flower Moon can defeat The Eras Tour at the box office this weekend. However, analysts predict another impressive weekend for the blonde bombshell from West Reading, Pennsylvania.

Taylor Swift, the pop icon who’s untouchable and burns brighter than the sun, has no plans to let go of her stranglehold on the box office when Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon takes the stage. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour banked $92.3M in its first weekend, with theaters pausing showtimes between Monday and Thursday. While the concert film could take a 60%-70% dip in its second weekend with $27M-$37M, it could be enough to walk all over Scorsese’s latest epic at the box office.
Analysts watching Killers of the Flower Moon predict a $20M-$25M opening for Scorsese’s gripping drama. Considering the film’s 3-hour, 26-minute runtime, that’s an impressive take for a theater experience that should come with complimentary adult diapers. While some of the year’s most significant films have been victims of the SAG-AFTRA strike and an inability to promote new projects,...

It also tells the story of an intense family drama and split between two brothers that ultimately led to one of the longest running brand rivalries in history – as Dassler’s brother Rudolf created Puma.

Martin Scorsese is readying the release of his forthcoming epic Killers of the Flower Moon, and during a rare wide-ranging, sit-down feature, he was once again quizzed on his opinions about comic book films.
“The danger there is what it’s doing to our culture,” Scorsese said of comic book films during a GQ interview. “Because there are going to be generations now that think movies are only those—that’s what movies are.”
The Taxi Driver filmmaker continued to add that as a result, it is down to contemporary filmmakers to “fight back stronger” to maintain a more robust film culture.
“It’s gotta come from the filmmakers themselves. And you’ll have, you know, the Safdie brothers, and you’ll have Chris Nolan, you know what I mean? And hit ’em from all sides,” he said. “Hit ’em from all sides, and don’t give up. Let’s see what you got.

It’s no secret that it’s taken decades of twists and turns in Hollywood to get Michael Mann’s anticipated “Ferrari,” which makes its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival Aug. 31, to the big screen.
But what’s less known is that the journey of this drama about Italian sports car builder and racing pioneer Enzo Ferrari originated with Italy’s storied Cecchi Gori Group before the company went bust.
In 1991, Los Angeles-based Penta Pictures — which had been jointly founded by producer Vittorio Cecchi Gori and then-rising TV mogul Silvio Berlusconi — bought adaptation rights to the book “Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races” by Brock Yates that is the basis for Mann’s picture.
Cecchi Gori subsequently hired Troy Kennedy Martin to write the script and when Penta Pictures was dissolved in 1995 the “Ferrari” rights went to its U.S. arm, Cecchi Gori Pictures.

Altering an initial platform-release plan, Apple Original Films will instead launch the Cannes Film Festival hit Killers of the Flower Moon to a wide global theatrical release October 20. Apple is partnered with Paramount Pictures on the theatrical release. This before the Martin Scorsese-directed film that stars Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone gets an Apple TV+ berth. That timing is undetermined at the moment, but it will surely be in the heat of awards season.
Apple originally intended to release the film limited October 6, but the wide global launch certainly favored both Barbie and Oppenheimer this summer. It was not disclosed how many screens worldwide, and it is not out of the realm of possibility that the film could play one of the fall festivals. A run on Imax is also part of the plan.

While Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny didn’t quite make the splash it was hoping to make when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, another movie that made its debut there (to much greater success) is Martin Scorsese’s new anticipated drama Killers of the Flower Moon. This film brings a collaboration of Scorsese’s two prominent go-to actors of his career, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. Both of them have worked together previously, portraying father and son in 1993’s This Boy’s Life from director Michael Caton-Jones. However, the standout performance that audiences have been raving about is Lily Gladstone, as DiCaprio’s Native American spouse.
Apple has recently released a new trailer for the drama. And the official synopsis reads,
At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” executive producer Niels Juul is in Cannes with several projects based on IP from the vault of Italy’s storied Cecchi Gori movie company that include a remake of the Dino Risi-directed classic “Il Sorpasso” and “Kafka,” a script about the turbulent love life of Franz Kafka by John Briley (“Gandhi”).
The IP and some other assets of the movie company that once dominated Italy’s film industry and collapsed in the mid-1990s were acquired late last year by a group of Italian investors under the new management of Rome-based CEO Federico Canfora and U.S-based Javier Balliero Madrid. Madrid is president of the new company, which is backing a partial relaunch of the Cecchi Gori brand, which is behind such Oscar-winners as “Life Is Beautiful,” “Mediterraneo” and “Il Postino.”
They have a producing agreement with Los Angeles-based Juul, who is a former Cecchi Gori Pictures CEO.

Exclusive: Martin Scorsese has locked his cut of Killers of the Flower Moon, and Deadline can reveal that the final run time will be 3 hours, 26 minutes. The Apple Original Films drama will make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, before it opens theatrically in October through Paramount Pictures and later moves to streaming globally on Apple TV+.
There has been much guessing about the film’s length, with wild guesses speculating it could be four hours. That is simply not the case. Adapted the David Grann book and pairing Scorsese’s two favorite actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, Killers has plenty of true crime story to fill up that time.

The majority of producers might be forgiven for agonizing about their choice of career as they enter the 73rd Berlinale. Yet amid the industry’s gloom and doom around the shaky state of the independent film market and uncertain future of cinema shines a beacon of light. Habitually independent by both name and natural instincts, producer collaboration between themselves – across borders and continents —are playing an enhanced and vital role as the industry pivots once again in the face of ongoing disruption.
Definitions of so-called ‘independence’ in sync with the ‘producer’ moniker vary so widely that the very term has been questioned. “There is no such thing as an independent producer,” Bill Mechanic, CEO of Pandemonium and former Fox Filmed Entertainment boss memorably opined to IFTA members pre-pandemic. “There are dependent producers: dependent on distributors, financiers and bankers and distribution channels that understand the market even less that the corporations that own the studios.

Updated: Cecchi Gori, the movie company that once dominated Italy’s film industry and collapsed in the mid 1990s, is being revived by a group of Italian investors that are backing a partial relaunch of the storied brand behind Oscar winners “Life is Beautiful,” “Mediterraneo” and “Il Postino.”
Cecchi Gori Group was officially ruled bankrupt in 2006 by a Rome court after being awash in red ink for a decade after its owner, movie mogul Vittorio Cecchi Gori, branched out from film into television and acquired the A.C. Fiorentina soccer club in a bold expansion attempt that put him in competition with Silvio Berlusconi and went horribly wrong.
But even after the company’s various Italian sides went bust, its U.S. branches – Cecchi Gori U.S.A. and Cecchi Gori Pictures – continued to operate, headed by producer Niels Juul. Operating out of Los Angeles, Juul has been instrumental to...
