- Russ Allinson, born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, moved to Los Angeles when he was 17 to work with his uncle, Bill Quenville, a helicopter cinematographer who shot films, TV commercials and television shows. Allinson started out by driving a camera truck, eventually learning all aspects of loading cameras and shooting film. He then moved to Atlanta, GA, shooting 70mm films with producer and cinematographer, Joe Shelton. During this time, he shot "The Mississippi", a 70mm film on the Mississippi River that was part of an exhibit for the 1984 New Orleans World's Fair. Hired by Good Morning America, Allinson and Shelton were the first two people allowed to shoot aerial footage of the Mount St. Helens crater after the eruption in 1980. Allinson went on to become a DP and director in the Atlanta, GA commercial market. In 1989, he moved to Sarasota, FL, where he headed up the film department for Omni Films International, producing and shooting thirteen 70mm ride films, as well as shooting several 70mm films for the Planetarium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. All films were with 6 channels magnetic soundtrack in 5perf/70mm in either 24 or 30 frames per sec. In 1995, Allinson moved with his family to Blaine, WA then to Vancouver, BC, where he freelanced as a camera operator/DOP, eventually working in special effects for various TV and film projects before becoming part of the SPFX crew for the TV series Smallville and then Arrow, until his passing from colon cancer in June of 2020.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Diane Mileson
