No one can drag Billie Eilish down…unless you’re the weight strapped to her during the photo shoot for her Hit Me Hard and Soft album cover art.
The Grammy-winning singer revealed on Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that the photo for her third studio album, released May 17, was in fact “very real” and not photoshopped.
“This was the day after this last Grammys, actually. I had gone to sleep at 7 a.m.,” Eilish recalled of the day she shot the artwork. “I woke up, I dyed my hair black — it was like bright red — I dyed it black that day. Then I went to this random place in Santa Clarita or some nonsense. There’s a tank in this giant place, and it was, like, 10 feet deep. And I popped my little ass in there, and I was in there for six hours.

“You don’t wanna know how alone I’ve been,” Billie Eilish sings halfway through her excellent new album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. That sums up the paradox of her life in one line — a shy weirdo kid who became a mega-pop star too fast, a romantic who’s never had the luxury of a private love life, a target for misogyny since her mid-teens. At 22, she’s already rewired the way pop is experienced. But she has the power to get the whole world on her side even...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Grammy Award-winner Billie Eilish revealed that her dramatic blonde hair transformation sparked an identity crisis, leaving her feeling like she had “no idea” who she was. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said: “And then I dyed my hair blonde, and I immediately was like, ‘Oh, I have no idea who I am’.”
The glamorous look aligned with the softer feel of her sophomore album, ‘Happier Than Ever’, but ultimately, it felt like too much of a departure from Eilish’s true self, reports people.com.
“In a weird way, that was a little like being in a tornado cellar, reading a cute little story,” Eilish’s brother and collaborator, Finneas O’Connell, said in the profile.
“It was a coping mechanism for an album.”

Nicola Coughlan opened up about her support for Palestine and how she was told it could affect the acting gigs she’s offered.
In a Teen Vogue cover story, the Bridgerton star sat down to discuss the show’s upcoming and highly anticipated season three. In the conversation, she also got candid about her support for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Coughlan has been vocal on social media about her support for the people, especially the children, of Palestine, who are caught in the middle of the Israel-Hamas War. She acknowledged her support stems from a “moral responsibility to give back” because of her privilege as a white woman.
The actress noted her advocacy began before she landed her breakout role on Derry Girls. She was involved in different causes, like going door-to-door campaigning for marriage equality in her home country of Ireland and marching for abortion rights.

Billie Eilish opened up about her upcoming album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, sharing that it helped her find her old self again.
In a Rolling Stone cover story, the Grammy-winning artist dove into her third album and explained how it resembles her first one, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
“I feel like this album is me. It’s not a character,” she told the publication. “It feels like the When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? version of me. It feels like my youth and who I was as a kid.”
She explained that while her 2019 breakout was like a whirlwind of madness, it was still one of the best times of her life, which is why she revisited it for this album.
“This whole process has felt like I’m coming back to the girl that I was,” Eilish continued. “I’ve been grieving her.

BAFTA has confirmed the date for next year’s film awards ceremony, which will be held Sunday, February 16, 2025.
The date means the BAFTAs will come exactly two weeks before the 2025 Oscars, set for March 2.
Once again, the British awards will take place smack in the middle of the Berlin Film Festival, which runs Feb. 13-23, meaning many Brit executives will be booking flights back from the German capital on the first festival weekend.

John Mayer has legendary status among watch lovers. A major collector for years — renowned not only for his connoisseurship of luxury timepieces but also his knowledge of what makes some of the most complicated examples tick — he’s now joined the ranks of the few celebrities (LeBron James, Travis Scott) who have designed a watch in collaboration with Audemars Piguet.
Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition
The new Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition is a grail-worthy watch specimen. In addition to its perpetual calendar complication — one of the most technically precise functions to pull off, in that it can accurately track and show the correct date of the month, no matter the length of the month or whether it’s a leap year — the new timepiece features a gorgeous deep-blue dial meant to evoke a starry, crystalline sky. The watch face also boasts a moon phase with glittery aventurine.

Mayim Bialik took to social media today to express her disappointment that more support for the Hamas hostages taken in the Oct. 7 raid was not expressed at the Oscars.
“Of course I have opinions about a lot of things that went down at the Oscars, both on the red carpet and on the stage, but here’s what I’m going to say: I sure wish every single human being at the Oscars would have worn a yellow ribbon to show support for Hamas immediately returning the hostages who have been held since they were seized from their homes on October 7- including American citizens. That’s a wrap on Oscar season 2024 — but first, the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast’s Roundtable dives in one last time to take a final look at the highs, lows and head scratchers from Sunday night’s ceremony. “Oppenheimer” did huge, but it didn’t quite sweep. “Poor Things” over-poor-formed. We’re still not quite sure what Al Pacino was doing before handing out the best picture Academy

In January, prolific songwriter Diane Warren received her 15th Academy Award nomination in the best song category for “The Fire Inside,” for the film “Flamin’ Hot,” directed by Eva Longoria. On March 10, Warren held onto her Oscar record in the category for more nominations without a single win when she lost to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for their “Barbie” song “What Was I Made For?”
But Warren doesn’t have much time to wallow in self pity. The songwriter, whose catalogue includes “Only Love Can Hurt Like This,” “Un-Break My Heart,” and “If I Could Turn Back Time,” is due in Austin on March 12 for the SXSW premiere of Bess Kargman’s documentary “Diane Warren: Relentless.”
It’s a doc that multiple nonfiction helmers have attempted to make, which isn’t surprising since Warren has penned nine No. 1 and 33 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and is tied for...

That is up approximately 8% from the Live+Same Day total of 19.5 million viewers when the telecast originally aired on March 10. In addition, the 2024 awards show now stands at a 4.35 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, up just over 14% from the original 3.8 rating. It is also an improvement over the 19.9 million viewers the 2023 Oscars notched after seven days of delayed viewing.
The special episode of “Abbott Elementary” that aired immediately after the Oscars saw even better improvement, rising from 6.9 million viewers and a 1.42 rating to 11.05 million and a 3.35 rating. That is a 60% rise in total viewers and a 136% rise in the key demo.

While having five past winners present the acting categories once again went over well at the 2024 Oscars like it did in 2009, the Best Actress category will present a challenge toward optics should it become an annual tradition. There are only two women of color in the 96 years the Oscars have existed who have ever won the award. Would Halle Berry, the only Black Best Actress winner, and Michelle Yeoh, the only Asian Best Actress winner, swap presenting duties year by year? Otherwise, it would be an all-white lineup of presenters.
Not that other categories have a perfect history of diversity, either, but the problem is much less stark. Part of the reason why the segment works in the first place is that it sends a subtle message that any kind of person can win. If it were only women of one race up there, that intended message would be lost.

Freedom and independence fueled many of this year’s Oscar wins, from “Oppenheimer” and “American Fiction” to “Poor Things” and “Anatomy of a Fall.” Creative choices and thinking outside the box paid off for these Oscar winners. Let Hollywood greenlighters take note that Universal’s gamble on “Oppenheimer” paid off big time, along with Warners’ bet on Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” which was by no means a guaranteed success.
Accepting the Oscar for Adapted Screenplay for “American Fiction,” backed by T-Street and MRC before it was picked up by MGM/Amazon, TV writer-turned-filmmaker Cord Jefferson said, “I recognize that so many people weren’t given the opportunity I was given. Instead of one $200-million movie, try making 20 $10-million movies.”
Amen to that.
“Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan, and Donna Langley
“Oppenheimer” took home its expected seven Oscars, including Nolan’s first wins ever after eight nominations, for Best Picture and Director.

As the clock inched toward midnight at the Vanity Fair Oscars party (and on the eight-month long “Barbie” press tour), Greta Gerwig gleefully danced the night away.
With an In-n-Out burger in one hand and a cocktail in the other, Gerwig grooved to Dua Lipa’s hit “Dance the Night” with another one of her Barbies, Hari Nef, who sported a pink feathered Balenciaga jacket with a sizable train.
For this last hurrah, Gerwig swapped the pink boiler suit she famously wore while directing the $1.4 billion blockbuster (and the stunning Gucci gown she wore at the ceremony) for a black open tuxedo jacket, skipping a shirt in favor of draping Boucheron diamonds on her neck and chest.
Shortly after the “Barbie” song ended, the director was ready to take a load off, making her way to an open seat on the outdoor courtyard, because it had been a long day...

Greta Gerwig tells me there’s “no resistance” from her about the possibility of Barbie 2.
The challenge for her she says, is how to tackle a follow-up movie. Initially, the filmmaker wasn’t “feeling” the idea of a sequel, but now she’s warm to such a situation. “I’m not dismissing it, I want to do it,” she says, but there’s a heck of a lot to discuss first with Mattel, Margot Robbie, Warner Bros Discovery, producer David Heyman and all of her creative collaborators.

Also, there’s rather a lot on her plate as she puts the architecture in place to shoot Narnia for Netflix, and Gerwig revealed that she’ll return to London to soon resume the very early stages of pre-production in the UK.

First things first, just what everyone wants to read the morning after Oscar Sunday: stats. At this year’s ceremony — which, thanks to an earlier start time, blessedly wrapped up before 10:30 p.m. Et — 13 women won Oscars. 11 of those winners enjoyed their first Academy Award win ever. That means that, at the 2024 Oscars, nearly 85 percent of its female winners smashed one of Hollywood’s highest, brightest ceilings for the first time.
As ever, that stat comes with a caveat or two, as some of the night’s biggest wins for female stars were repeats: Billie Eilish (alongside brother Finneas O’Connell) picked up her second Best Song win for the Barbie track “What Was I Made for,” making her the youngest two-time Oscar winner ever. And, perhaps most notably, a stunned Emma Stone won her second Best Actress statuette for her work in “Poor Things,” beating out first-time nominee Lily Gladstone...

With the Oscars 2024 finally making history, this ceremony indeed felt different than the previous Oscars. Although Will Smith did slap Chris Rock almost two years ago, this year the Oscars were too competitive.
Christopher Nolan, Cillian Murphy, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, and a plethora of actors were involved in the event. Some of the celebrities like Mahershala Ali and Billie Eilish were spotted wearing red lapel pins showcasing their support for the Israel-Gaza ceasefire!

The 2024 Oscars returned to the Dolby Theatre on Sunday for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. The awards ceremony began with an emotional win for Da’Vine Joy Randolph and ended with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer taking home the top prize, as well as six other awards. But there was plenty going on off-camera as well. From Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence hugging backstage to how John Cena went from practically naked to donning a toga, here are some of the things the cameras missed during the 96th annual Academy Awards.
Snack Boxes for All
As per usual, Jimmy Kimmel brought his A-game to his Oscar-hosting gig — and some snacks. This year, the late night host provided snack boxes that included Shappy Pretzels and mustard, Mike & Ike’s, water and a note from the host that, “to keep the karma flowing,” they would be providing a donation to St. Joseph Center.

After making history at the 2024 Oscars, Billie Eilish has come a long way from feeling envious of the young performers she watched a decade ago in a stage production of Matilda the Musical.
While backstage at the Academy Awards press room with her brother Finneas O’Connell after the pair prevailed for best original song for her Barbie hit “What Was I Made For?,” Eilish was asked if she has advice for young aspiring creatives. Eilish and O’Connell, who co-wrote the number for the Warner Bros. smash, are uniquely equipped to provide pointers for achieving success at an early age, given that they are now the youngest two-time Oscar winners after topping the same category in 2022 for their song “No Time to Die.”

Billie Eilish, age 22, and Finneas O’Connell, age 26, made history Sunday night at the Oscars as they became the youngest two-time winners ever, taking home the golden statue for the somber Barbie hit “What Was I Made For?” in the Original Song category.
During a heartfelt reflection backstage at the Oscars, Eilish recalled a moment of insecurity and doubt while watching Matilda on Broadway in her youth that almost hindered her current path to historic stardom. “I remember being 12, believe it or not, and seeing this musical and sobbing my eyes out. On her way to the stage to accept the best actress 2024 Oscar for her role as Bella Baxter in Poor Things, Emma Stone was seen mouthing “my dress is broken!” to the cameras.
“I think it happened during ‘I’m Just Ken,’ I’m pretty sure,” the 35-year-old actress revealed during her acceptance speech.
The star wore a custom mermaid gown with high jewelry, both from Louis Vuitton.
Past best actress winners Sally Field, Jessica Lange, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize Theron and Michelle Yeoh awarded the star her golden statue, with Lange rushing to Stone’s aid to fix her sculptural mint dress’ zipper wardrobe malfunction.

At the post-show press room, Stone revealed more about how her dress was ultimately fixed.
“They sewed me back in, right when I came back, it was wonderful,” said Stone. “I genuinely do think I busted it during ‘I’m Just Ken.

Oppenheimer dominated the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday (March 10), winning seven Oscars, including best picture, after going into the ceremony with 13 nominations.
The epic biographical drama from British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, already winner of the Bafta and Producers Guild of America best film awards as well as the Golden Globe for drama feature, also brought Nolan (himself winner of the Bafta and Directors Guild of America directing awards) his first directing Oscar.
Oppenheimer delivered other statuettes to Nolan’s producing partners Emma Thomas and Charles Roven, Ireland’s Cillian Murphy as lead actor and Robert Downey Jr as supporting actor.

Jimmy Kimmel did a fantastic job with the 2024 Oscars opening monologue, touching briefly on politics but mostly focusing the jokes around this year’s nominees. Kimmel called out Greta Gerwig’s Oscar snub, this year’s Oppenheimer nomination being a new “high” in Robert Downey Jr’s career, and compared Emma Stone playing an adult woman with the brain of a child to the woman who gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union address. Kimmel’s monologue ended with a standing ovation as he brought Teamsters & IATSE members onto the stage, thanking them for standing with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA during last year’s strikes.

Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” were the big Oscar craft winners March 10, each winning three awards. Christopher Nolan’s historical thriller about the atomic bomb grabbed cinematography, editing, and original score, while Yargos Lanthimos’ surreal “Frankenstein” gender-bender snagged costume design, production design, and makeup and hairstyling.
The rest went to “Godzilla Minus One” (visual effects), “The Zone of Interest” (sound), and “Barbie”. The lone “Barbie” win was a major disappointment for Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster, which was expected to also take costume design and/or production design for the inventive Mattel-inspired fashion and world-building.
The wins for “Godzilla Minus One” and “The Zone of Interest” were both upsets: Takashi Yamazaki’s Kaiju actioner bested Gareth Edwards’ AI-themed “The Creator,” which won the Ves prize, and Jonathan Glazer’s Holocaust drama about the banality of evil (the international feature film Oscar winner) overtook “Oppenheimer,” which won the...

Billie Eilish, 22, and her brother Finneas O’Connell, 26, became the youngest two-time Oscar winners with their best original song Oscar win Sunday night.
The sibling collaborators’ “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie won at the 2024 Oscars. This marks the pair’s second Oscar win in the category, as they took home the award for “No Time to Die” in 2022.
When Eilish took the stage, she burst out laughing from excitement. “I had a nightmare about this last night,” joked the pop star. She admitted that she was “not expecting” to win again, but feels “so incredibly lucky and honored.”
She continued, “I’m grateful for this song and for this movie and the way that it made me feel. And, this goes out to everyone who was affected by the movie and how incredible it is.”
Besides thanking Barbie director and co-screenwriter Gerwig, Eilish thanked her best friend Zoe Donahue...

One of the many mood-setting songs on the "Barbie" soundtrack was "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish and her brother/co-writer Finneas O'Connell. Tonight at the 96th Academy Awards, the duo and their tune took home the Oscar for Best Original Song as Miss Eilish made Oscar history.
This is Eilish and O'Connell's second Oscar win; they previously won Best Original Song in 2022 for "No Time To Die," the anthem from the eponymous James Bond movie. With these two almost back-to-back wins, the 22-year-old Eilish is now the youngest two-time Oscar winner in history. I'd bet good money this year's golden statue won't be the last she'll display on her shelf.
Eilish is the latest musical goth it-girl of the moment, following in the footsteps of her cited influences like Avril Lavigne. Her whispery singing can be sad and/or creepy depending on what lyrics she's letting out.

Lily Gladstone got teary eyed watching Scott George and the Osage Singers’ powerful performance of “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon at the 2024 Oscars.
The performers joined forces to collectively bang a drum, dressed in traditional Osage attire, as the women sang.

George previously shared how special the nomination was with The Hollywood Reporter. “With Lily, it’s not surprising to me that she’s been nominated. She’s great. With us, if you really wanted to look at it, our music is probably thousands of years old. For it to be recognized maybe for the first time ever, it’s overwhelming in that sense,” the drummer, singer and composer said.
