“Welcome to The O.C., bitch!”
With those five immortal words, a cultural phenomenon was born.
The brainchild of a then-25-year-old Josh Schwartz, and guided by the steady hand of his producing partner Stephanie Savage, The O.C. ran for four chaotic seasons on Fox before sailing off into the sunset (or, in the case of poor Marissa Cooper, crashing in a fiery wreck).
A fish-out-of-water tale about Ryan Atwood (Benjamin McKenzie), a troubled kid from Chino who’s adopted by Sandy (Peter Gallagher), Kirsten (Kelly Rowan), and Seth Cohen (Adam Brody...

Mischa Barton is opening up about the toll fame had on her as a teenager.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the actress, who rose to stardom at age 17 after starring as Marissa Cooper on The O.C., recalled the “trauma” she endured working in the industry when she was younger.
“You can go to therapy every day for the rest of your life,” Barton said. “But there’s just a certain amount of trauma [from] all that I went through, particularly in my early 20s, that just doesn’t go away overnight.”
The Neighbours star explained that she felt like she was never “prepared for that level of fame.”
She added, “It has never been something that I have sought out. I really would much rather be anonymous.”
But being anonymous was basically impossible for Barton because she was constantly followed by paparazzi during that time in her life.

The creators of The Oc are speaking out about their controversial decision to kill off Mischa Barton's Marissa Cooper.
Barton was written out of the Fox teen soap at the close of its third season, forever changing the series and possibly paving the way for its cancellation one season later.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage opened up to Vanity Fair about the decision in an interview promoting their new book, Welcome to the O.C.: The Oral History.
Marissa was killed off when Volchok drove Ryan's car off the road, leading to one of the defining moments of the series.
“It’s something that we regret, and looking back on it, we wish we could have come up with a different solution,” Schwartz says to the outlet.
“We didn’t see an alternative path at the time, which is why we went down that road," he elaborated.

Can it really be 20 years since “The O.C.” premiered on Fox? The young actors of the series, Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson quickly became in-demand stars and the theme song “California” by Phantom Planet became a top ten hit in several countries while also reaching 35 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart.
The bagel-centric series also introduced us to “Chrismukkah” and showcased bands from The Killers to Modest Mouse.
Several members of the cast went on to lead their own series and films and others have popped up on hit shows from “How I Met Your Mother” to “Grey’s Anatomy.” Here’s what they’ve been up to since “The O.C.” signed off in February 2007.

Benjamin McKenzie, who played O.C. newbie Ryan Atwood, went on to star as an LA cop on TNT’s “Southland” and as James Gordon on Fox’s Batman prequel series “Gotham.

On August 5, 2003, the Fox network premiered The O.C., a teen drama set against the lush backdrop of Newport Beach, California, about the chaos that ensues when wealthy lawyer Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher) takes Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie), a kid from the wrong side of the tracks, to live with his family in their huge McMansion. The show was an instant sensation, making stars out of McKenzie, Mischa Barton (as fragile Newport princess Marissa Cooper), Adam Brody (as Sandy’s nerdy son Seth), and Rachel Bilson (as Seth’s forever crush...

The long-awaited revival of Neighbours is adding an O.C. alum to its ranks.
News broke this week that Mischa Barton had landed a guest role in Freevee's first season of the Australian soap as Reece, described as "an American new to Erinsborough who's not quite who she appears to be."
Neighbours was initially canceled in Australia after a longtime production partner decided against renewal in favor of more homegrown content.
Despite a much-publicized series finale that brought the likes of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan back after years away, Amazon announced its Freevee platform would pick up the show in November.
"With Neighbours launching on Amazon Freevee in North America, we are beyond excited to have an actor of Mischa's caliber join us for the beginning of this exciting new chapter," said Jason Herbison, executive producer of Neighbours.
"Mischa's character is dynamic and unpredictable, and will have an instant presence on Ramsay Street.

Neighbours is returning less than a year after its final episode was axed – and one special guest star has already been announced.
The Australian soap originally aired from 1985 to 2022, but came to an end in July. However, in November, it was announced that the show was being rebooted by Amazon Freevee.
With production kicking off on Monday (17 April), it has now been announced that The Oc star Mischa Barton will make an appearance in the new series.
Barton will arrive in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough as Reece, an American who is new to the area and “not quite who she appears to be”.
Speaking about joining the soap, Barton, 37, said: “I’m excited to be part of this iconic show’s next chapter, and I am really looking forward to being back in Australia, a place I know and love!

“It’s just a show,” is the common response from someone seeing a person crying at the death of a fictional person on screen. But TV acolytes will know that it can be hard to rein in the emotions when your favourite character for the past seven years has just been killed off.
In the battle of TV versus cinema, the former has always packed more of a punch when it comes to impactful deaths – probably because we’ve come to know the character better over a longer period of time. And when someone who you’ve grown used to seeing day-in and day-out suddenly vanishes from your life forever, there are going to be some emotional ramifications.
Sometimes, in the saddest of circumstances, the demise of a character even marks the demise of the show itself, with creators and writers failing to keep us interested beyond their death blow.

Los Angeles, Feb 10 (Ians) ‘Notting Hill’ actress Mischa Barton has claimed that she was told to sleep with Leonardo DiCaprio when she was 19 and he was 30.
The actress had made a revelation in an old video which has now emerged from the dark depths of the Internet because well, nothing really dies on the Internet, reports Mirror.co.uk.
The actress’ words from a 2005 interview have resurfaced after the actor was criticised for being spotted with 19-year-old Eden Polani.
Mischa’s comments came from her interview with Harpers & Queen during the height of her fame playing Marissa Cooper in ‘The Oc’. In the chat she discussed the moment she and then-publicist Craig Schneider saw the Titanic man at a shoot in Malibu.

That collective sigh of relief you heard last summer? It was the internet learning that Never Have I Ever’s Paxton Hall-Yoshida – the dreamy high school senior with high-set dimples and a jawline that could cut diamonds – is actually played by 31-year-old actor Darren Barnet. Yes, we may have fallen for the brooding jock with unprobed depths as he roamed the halls of Sherman Oaks High on the Netflix hit, but his real-life age gave our crushes a plausible veneer of respectability. We must have sensed this man’s much older soul. If anything, we were responding to his Duchenne smile, and what child star could achieve such crinkly eyed warmth?
In truth, it was still kind of creepy. He was playing a teenage heartthrob after all. But in the season three finale to Mindy Kaling’s sensationally funny coming-of-age sitcom, Paxton finally crossed TV’s undeniable threshold into adulthood: he graduated from high school.

Played by then-17-year-old Mischa Barton, Marissa was a tragic figure, one that never really seemed like she belonged even though she was beautiful, wealthy and privileged. Over the course of three seasons, she experienced an overdose, her parent's divorce, being held hostage (Never forget Oliver!) and shooting her boyfriend's brother, to name just a few. Date planning can be super stressful.
But not every date has to be at that fancy French restaurant with the super pricey snails.
The whole point of a date is to spend time with someone and get to know them better. This is true in television too.
Some of the best television dates involved someone getting a little creative. Okay, so sometimes they had to break the bank, but not always. In any case, some of these dates would be very fun.
So let's take a cue from the couples of television and see what some of the most creative dates they've gone on were.
1) Puck and Quinn - Glee - Babysitting
When a pregnant Quinn invited Puck to babysit with her on Glee Season 1 Episode 11, she was testing whether or not he was daddy material. This is something that a lot of couples (or almost couples) think about.

Based on the 2005 John Green novel of the same name, “Looking For Alaska” was made to be adapted for television by Josh Schwartz. In fact, in 2005, it was set to be adapted by him as a feature film; but even after writing a screenplay that Green reportedly loved, the movie remained in development hell, with constant delays for years. Then in May 2018, it was announced that Schwartz would be writing the eight-episode limited series for Hulu, executive producing alongside his Fake Empire partner and longtime collaborator Stephanie Savage.
Now it’s finally here, and despite the story originally being written by someone else entirely, “Looking For Alaska” fits Schwarz and Savage like a glove. This is far from the duo’s first adaptation—“Gossip Girl,” “The Carrie Diaries,” and Marvel’s “Runaways” all exist—but it is impressive just how much the source material and the finished product makes it feel like their own creation.

Mischa Barton is coming full circle. With an upcoming spot on MTV's The Hills: New Beginnings, the O.C. alum will return to TV on the reboot of a reality franchise her famous character helped inspire. "In the beginning, there was an expectation of me to still remain being Marissa Cooper in this 'Laguna Beach' California world, but it's not feasible at the end of the day," she told The New York Times of the Hills sequel. "You are going to see me." And while reality TV is a notable shift for the longtime actress, the 33-year-old star told the newspaper she hoped to "situate myself in a different part of my career, make a new...

Please bear with me, because I'm going where no '90s baby has gone before. It's uncharted territory and quite possibly the most jarring position of devil's advocate that's ever been played, but I'm about to tell you why Seth Cohen was the f*cking worst on The O.C. If you don't want to ruin your perception of the so-called nice boy of Newport, I don't recommend reading further. But if you're ready to see the characters of your favorite early 2000s show in a whole new light, buckle up and enjoy the ride.
I recently found myself with some time on my hands. Game of Thrones is taking its sweet time to return for season eight, and there's only so many times I can rewatch Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage episodes, so I decided to binge all four seasons of The O.C. on Hulu. As one of my favorite shows growing up,...

Barton will star alongside original cast members from “The Hills,” including Audrina Patridge, Brody Jenner, Frankie Delgado, Heidi Pratt, Jason Wahler, Justin “Bobby” Brescia, Spencer Pratt, Stephanie Pratt, and Whitney Port, as well as newcomers Kaitlynn Carter, Jennifer Delgado, and Ashley Wahler. Previous leads, Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari, will not take part in the reboot.

Mischa Barton has booked her big TV return, and it's very different from what one would expect.
MTV on Wednesday confirmed that the actress will be part of the cast of its revival of The Hills.
The new series, titled The Hills: New Beginnings is slated to debut in 2019.
Barton is probably best known for her role on The O.C. as the troubled Marissa Cooper.
Though she has had roles on the small screen since her exit ahead of the final season of the teen drama, this is probably her highest profile stint since.

Many achingly handsome fellows have steamed up the sterile hospital walls of Grey Sloan, and now there's another dashing doctor in town, set to be played by the endlessly sexy Chris Carmack. Grey's Anatomy's showrunners haven't disclosed too much information about Carmack's recurring role yet, though. From what fans know, he'll play an "Ortho God" in the series' 15th season. We're definitely excited to see how his part unfolds in the show, since he's early 2000s TV royalty after all.
Viewers might not know a lot about Carmack's upcoming role, but they've probably seen him before. He's no stranger when it comes to the small screen. If you binged teen soaps in the early 2000s, you'll recognize him as none other than The O.C.'s Luke Ward, Marissa Cooper's sun-kissed, brutish boyfriend on the water polo team. This character would leave its mark on the actor's career,...

After last week's intense cliffhanger, every Riverdale fan in the world is anxiously waiting to find out if Jughead is really dead. The wait was made even worse, when Jughead actor Cole Sprouse decided to get cryptic on Twitter. "Grateful, thank you #riverdale," he wrote minutes following the episode's end. What in the name of jingle-jangle does it mean?! Well, despite the grim prognosis, there's absolutely no way that Jughead is going to die. Don't worry, we have some evidence to back it up. For starters, and perhaps the most obvious, Jughead narrates the entire story — he's as integral to the plot as Archie. Without Jughead, there seemingly would be no show. However, teen dramas have been known to kill off major characters before — ahem, Marissa Cooper on The Oc — so, we can't just leave it at that. The second major clue comes from the promo for tonight's episode. The scene opens with Betty,...

Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins), “Westworld”: The co-creator of the show’s titular theme park died at the hand of Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) in the final moments of Season 1. The host shooting him in the back of the head at a party was shocking enough — but it gave fans even more of a jolt to know he planned the whole thing.
Eddard Stark (Sean Bean), “Game of Thrones”: Fans of the book saw Ned’s death coming from a mile away, but viewers tuning in for the end of the HBO fantasy series first season may not have been prepared to see him beheaded. Actually, we don’t think anyone was ready for that, books or no books.
Dan Conner (John Goodman), “Roseanne”: Ok, Dan really shouldn’t be on this list — anymore. But because his death was such a big shock when it was revealed in the original series finale, it makes the cut. Even though it was all shrugged off when the revival hit ABC earlier this year.
Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton), “The O.C.”: Marissa was a hot mess by the time her life was cut short at the end of Season 3 of this Fox teen soap. However, she was just about to go live with her dad and turn her life around. So when she died in Ryan’s (Ben McKenzie) arm’s after a car crash, we started listening to “Forever Young” in tribute and haven’t stopped since.
Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams), “Dawson’s Creek”: Someone had to die in the series finale of this WB teen drama, because it was a WB teen drama. But it didn’t have to be Jen did it?!? Yeah, moving into the future to reveal that Jen was a mother to a one-year-old and then killing her of all in one episode was just a bit too much, even for those cynical at heart like Jen herself.
