If the news that Leigh Whannell's Wolfman has been delayed until 2025 has left you howling, then this werewolf twist on the myth should help. Released in cinemas under the much more boring title The Cursed, Sean Ellis' atmospheric period horror is thankfully back under its old moniker for its Netflix release. A silver bullet extracted from a dead man near the start of the film, clues us into the territory we're entering as the film moves back in time to his childhood in rural France. When his heartless father massacres a Romany settlement, the children start to have nightmares... and then begin to disappear. As pathologist John McBride (Boyd Holbrook) suspects something supernatural is at work, Ellis plays around with the werewolf myth that draws on the idea of a beast consuming you from within.

If there’s one thing avid enthusiasts of Christopher Nolan know about him besides his affinity for physics and his knack for creating masterpieces, it’s his tech-averse disposition. He himself has admitted to it, although not due to a particular disdain for it. The Oscar-winning director doesn’t resort to online activity when he could use the in-between time to engage in his art.

Still, this characteristic of Nolan’s has become somewhat of an internet joke. And given he can’t escape the jests of the netizens even on (what seems to be) a vacation, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be shaking this reputation off anytime soon! Recently, pictures of the acclaimed filmmaker in Venice with his wife and professional partner Emma Thomas went viral on X, formerly Twitter.

Nick Cave and his longtime collaborator Warren Ellis have teamed up to score the forthcoming Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black.
Cave and Ellis composed “about 20-30 minutes” of music for the film’s score. Additionally, Cave has contributed a new song called “Song for Amy” that will appear on the soundtrack.
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black,” said director Sam Taylor-Johnson in a statement. “Over the years I’ve listened to everything they’ve composed and longed to realize the dream of working together. Their sensibility as well as understanding of this story has led to a profoundly deep and moving film score.”
The soundtrack also includes six songs from Winehouse, as well a five songs from artists who inspired her, including Billie Holliday and The Shangri-Las. It will be released on May 17th.

While David Fincher’s The Killer starring Michael Fassbender as the tile character was an entertaining watch for fans, it was a notable step down from his prior works. Although it possesses Fincher’s impeccable filmmaking chops, instead of being a complex narrative, full of twists and turns, which fans have come to expect from him, The Killer was more like a straight arrow.
And American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis was one of the many, who shared a similar sentiment about the film, stressing that the film didn’t have anything to say despite being brilliantly directed.

The Killer Has Nothing to Offer Narrativelty Apart From Great Visuals per Bret Easton Ellis
While visually impeccable as David Fincher doesn’t back down from displaying his skills behind the lens, Bret Easton Ellis expressed that the narrative of The Killer didn’t have much to offer.

In 2016, 25 years after the publication of his novel "American Psycho," author Bret Easton Ellis wrote an article for Town & Country magazine reflecting on a question he was frequently asked: what would Patrick Bateman be doing now? In the mid-to-late '90s, Ellis thought that Bateman "would have been the founder of a number of dotcoms." Or, had the book been written in the decade leading up to 2016, "Bateman would have been working in Silicon Valley [...] palling around with Zuckerberg and dining at the French Laundry [...] wearing a Yeezy hoodie and teasing girls on Tinder."
The book is both very much of its time and also eerily prescient. It's easy to imagine Patrick Bateman as an influencer within TikTok's 'Hustle Culture,' working himself into a rage over other guys having more followers than him. As Ellis himself wrote:
"All the themes of the book still hold sway three decades later.

Genre movies have a well-earned reputation for being exploitative. Since the dawn of the "B" movie, genre films have been marketed with their exploitation elements up front, the better to entice people to stay in the theater or attend in the first place.
The more genre movies have been reappraised, studied, and eventually raised to the level of revered classics themselves, the more audiences and academics have realized that these films serve numerous important causes within the culture. They often provide the discussion of and investigation into thorny social and political issues that a straightforward drama would have trouble dealing with. They also can be utilized as a powerfully rich tool for normalization, where the marginalized can be the protagonists without having to justify or apologize for themselves, thereby bringing that group closer to the majority.

It's certainly a good day for fans of Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn, or indeed, anyone who wants to see him in more films. On the heels of Marvel confirming him as part of the cast for The Fantastic Four comes word that he'll star in a new horror thriller called Relapse, which marks the directorial debut of rabble-rousing author Bret Easton Ellis.
Described as an elevated horror also scripted by Ellis, it'll feature Quinn playing a young man named Matt Cullen, whose privileged life is shattered when he's a witness to a horrendous death at a wild party.
After checking into rehab, he's seemingly able to get back on a more even keel and moves back in with his parents at their luxurious Los Angeles manse. But as his unstable personality starts to cause problems again – fuelled by spending too much time on social media – he begins to be haunted...

Sometime in the 1970s, the controversial, acclaimed science-fiction writer and notorious curmudgeon Harlan Ellison was waiting for a date at a New York City restaurant. Realizing she was running late, he used a phone to try and call her for an update, but the noise of the dial tone and the bustling of a restaurant became a distraction, and he accidentally called his own landline number instead. The phone rang and rang until he realized he had called his own home, and was struck by the fear of how he would have reacted if he had answered the phone at home on the other end of the line. It is, of course, an impossible scenario, but one that became the idea for his short story "Shatterday," in which a man's life and sanity are utterly shattered after he comes in contact with a better version of himself.

The Last of Us actor stars alongside Jay Ellis in the Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden-helmed comedic thriller, in which he returns to his indie roots in his role as Clint, a retiring debt-collecting assassin who fights neo-Nazis.
“I was really lucky to start my character’s storyline in the first week of shooting and that felt like everything was my favorite [about being part of an indie production], from everybody introducing themselves to the physical shooting of the experience,” said Pascal. “It did feel a lot different from being in overblown projects where you’re kind of just getting into a much more intimate experience and you’re fast-tracking the connection to one another because the elements are us.”

“Kneecap” is the delightfully spiky story of an Irish-language hip hop act’s unlikely rise to fame. But it would be a lot better if it knew what to do with Michael Fassbender.

Oakland’s freaky side emerges in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s ambitious yet tonally uneven new anthology film Freaky Tales starring Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis, Ben Medelsohn, Jack Champion, Ji-Young Yoo, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Too Short and Lenny G. The directors spotlight diverse local subcultures against the backdrop of Too Short’s hit of the same name, with the film intertwining four tales linked by unfolding events and a puzzling supernatural emerald glow permeating the city. Though the gritty visuals and soundtrack immerse in the look and feel of 1987 Oakland, the narrative struggles to weave these stories into a satisfying whole.
The film opens on chaos with the segment The Gilman Strikes Back as young punks Tina (Yoo) and Lucid (Champion), usually retreating from violent Nazi skinheads, finally fight back when their underground venue is attacked. Next, in Don’t Fight the Feeling, best friends and rap duo Barbie...

The filmmakers behind Freaky Tales are talking about the experience of working with late actor Angus Cloud in one of his final roles.
The Euphoria actor, who died at age 25 in July, is posthumously onscreen at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in the Anna Boden- and Ryan Fleck-directed feature, which premiered on Jan. 18 in Park City, Utah.
Freaky Tales, which defies traditional genre definitions, has punk rockers fighting neo-Nazis, rap battles featuring real-life pop star Normani, Pedro Pascal as a soon-to-retire fixer, and an entire plot centered on Golden State Warrior All-Star Sleepy Floyd’s performance in the 1987 playoff game against the “showtime”-era Lakers. The film, told in four interweaving chapters, is set in 1987 in Cloud’s native Oakland.
“He’s got the Bay Area accent. It’s important that we had some people that talked that way [in the movie],” Fleck told THR prior to the festival. Boden added, “We...

After a snowy Wednesday in Park City dampered some of the arrival fanfare of previous festivals, Sundance soaked up the sun on Thursday’s opening day. With plenty of powder to lend an idyllic backdrop to selfies and social media updates, the festival crowd was buzzing in line for the day’s largest film opening: “Freaky Tales,” taking the coveted early evening spot at the Eccles Center. Dozens of stand-by hopefuls were left in the cold for the popular event though, which kicked off the festival with a riotous screening.
The film marks a Sundance homecoming for director Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, whose breakout hit was the 2006 Sundance favorite “Half Nelson”; the pair most recently helmed the decidedly not indie 2019 superhero flick “Captain Marvel.” “Freaky Tales” is a return to their scrappy roots: An anthology horror-thriller-comedy that pays tribute to ’80s Oakland, the film stars Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis,...

GLAAD received the Television Academy’s 2023 Governors Award on Monday at the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media-advocacy organization was recognized for its work to secure fair, accurate and diverse representation of the LGBTQ community in the media and entertainment industries and to advocate for LGBTQ equality.
“For all of us at GLAAD, this work is personal, for me, it’s about my wife and our kids, because what the world sees on TV directly influences how we treat each other and the decisions we make in our living rooms, schools, at work, and at the ballot box,” GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis said tonight onstage to accept the honorary Emmy from presenters Hannah Waddingham and Colman Domingo.

The side characters on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" can sometimes be just as funny or even funnier than the gang themselves, and one of the most beloved of them all is The Waitress, played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis. The Waitress has been a part of the series since the beginning, appearing in the very first episode, "The Gang Gets Racist," but her real name has never been revealed. Riverdale‘s resident Serpent Queen teaming up with a former Grey’s Anatomy doc? Now that’s wild.
TVLine has your exclusive first look at the trailer for Wild Cards, a “crime-solving procedural with a comedic twist,” starring Vanessa Morgan and Giacomo Gianniotti as an unlikely pair of crimefighters. We say unlikely because, while he’s a “by-the-book, sardonic cop,” she’s a “spirited, clever con woman.”

Frank Reynolds is one of the most deranged characters in the history of television, taking performer Danny DeVito's lewd, lascivious Louie DePalma character from "Taxi" and turning it up to 11. DeVito plays him as a total human disaster, complete with animal-like grunts, belches, and gurgles. It's hard not to laugh at Frank, but it might feel altogether different being in the same room with him, which is what happened to one "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" co-star early on in the series. DeVito isn't a method actor by any stretch of the imagination, but he does have a warm-up routine that helps him become Frank, and it totally freaked out one actor while filming the season 2 episode "Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom."

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is a somewhat unique comedy series in that the central cast and creative team have known one another for years, working together long before FX picked up their homemade pilot and they had a cable TV show together. That means that some of their inside jokes and gags go back decades, and in at least one instance, they ended up plagiarizing themselves by reusing a gag from one of their homemade shorts to create a major character for "Always Sunny." Then again, maybe plagiarism is too strong a word, considering the fact that the short wasn't really shown to the masses prior to "Sunny" blowing up and it's a very basic character premise, but they definitely still copied themselves.
