E! News is reporting that The Flash has cast Ashley Rickards as Rosalind "Rosa" Dillion a.k.a. The Top and she'll make her debut as the extremely dangerous DC Comics villain in the fourth episode of the upcoming third season. Rickards' iteration will be a new take on The Top, a male character in the comics, but she'll retain the same metahuman abilities, which are to make people's heads spin. Her version will also likely share a fairly intimate relationship with Grey Damon's Mirror Master as she's being teased as the Bonnie to his Clyde. Rickards is best known for her lead role as Jenna Hamilton on MTV's comedy drama series Awkward and has also guest-starred on episodes of Zoey 101, Ugly Betty, One Tree Hill, Entourage, and American Horror Story: Murder House. Her film credits include Fly Away, Sassy Pants, A Haunted House 2, and Behaving Badly.

The second half of Awkward’s fifth and final season comes back tomorrow night on MTV after a winter hiatus. As the episode title “I’m the Kind of Girl Who Found Her Voice in College” hints, we’re picking up with Jenna Hamilton and her friends a full year after high school graduation. Jenna and Matty unfortunately were on rocky ground when we last left them because they were going to different schools across the country from each other: Matty to Berkeley in northern California and Jenna to Maine. Their relationship is the epitome of on-again, off-again so they’re never completely done.

Hold. The. Phone. Could Awkward actually continue after the upcoming season five after all?! Although MTV previously announced that season five of their cult favorite hit series would be the final season (which broke our Awkward-loving hearts into a million tiny pieces, Fyi), it sounds like there might actually be hope to continue keeping up with the lives of Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards) and her BFFs and BFs after season five ends! Executive producer Chris Alberghini exclusively tells E! News that the writers were so excited about their plans to jump forward one year in the future in the back half of season five (aka to life after high school) that it "intrigued" them about all the new possibilities...

Despite a 30% decline in ratings, MTV renewed Awkward for a fourth season -- and even ordered twice as many episodes as initially planned. Will the numbers continue to drop or will they rebound? Will the series be cancelled or renewed for a fifth season? Stay tuned.
Awkward revolves around Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards), a socially awkward high schooler who gains notoriety after an accident is misinterpreted as a suicide attempt. The rest of the cast includes Beau Mirchoff, Nikki DeLoach, Jillian Rose Reed, Brett Davern, Molly Tarlov, and Desi Lydic.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

It took the entire second half of Season 3, but Jenna finally became the best version of herself in the "Awkward" season finale on Tuesday (Dec. 17). Actually, it could be argued that it took three full seasons for her to reach this point, since her journey to becoming a good friend -- and a better person -- all began with The Letter.
It was great to see a callback to the incident that started it all way back in the pilot, when Jenna received the carefrontation letter from an anonymous source. When she later found out the cruel letter came from her mother, that kickstarted the rebuilding of Jenna's relationship with her mother that culminated in the Season 3b finale. Jenna and Lacey had been working on their mother/daughter bond ever since Jenna asked her about The Letter, and though Jenna's recent "sanity sabbatical" halted all they had achieved, they...

Awkward., Season 3, Episode 19: “Karmic Relief”
Written by Erin Ehrlich
Directed by Erin Ehrlich
Airs Tuesdays at 10:30 Pm on MTV
Despite Jenna finally making positive strides towards repairing her friendships last week, the suspension and eventual firing of Valerie proved that she still had some more work left to do to right the wrongs she had perpetrated during her sanity sabbatical. This problem seemed particularly troublesome, as there was no clear way for Jenna to rectify the situation, unlike fixing the issues she had with her friends. This week focuses on Jenna’s efforts to get Valerie reinstated as prom looms large over the group, in a solid episode that closes the book on a number of storylines, while opening up some intriguing new avenues for the show to go down.
Having Bailey as a romantic rival to Jenna is a very intriguing idea.

Browse our picks and share your own: Which TV couples need to split for good?
Like the Britney Spears song of the same name, some TV couples are just toxic. You know the ones I’m talking about; the couples fans shamelessly root for, ignoring how poorly the characters treat each other, and how damaging they are for one another. HollywoodLife.com made a list of nine such couples from shows like Scandal, Glee and The Vampire Diaries – so come on, let’s get judgmental!
9 Most Toxic TV Couples
1. Olivia & Fitz, Scandal: What’s there to say about President Fitzgerald Grant and his First Mistress that we haven’t already said? He’s married. Her father is the head of B613. Jake is a viable alternative. I know Liv’s life is stressful, and sometimes stress can make you do crazy things, but she’s better than this. She deserves better than this.

When Jenna gets sloppy about getting sloppy with Collin, her blog isn’t the only thing that goes public.
When we last left Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards), she was locked in forbidden foreplay with that smarmy wordsmith Collin (Nolan Funk); and while she managed to go an entire weekend without kissing him again, Awkward‘s Oct. 22 premiere found her once again smashing her mouth against his.
If you’re wondering why I’m describing Jenna and Collin’s make-out sessions in such ugly terms, it’s because I don’t co-sign their behavior. Jenna’s been kind of the worst since day one, but now she is most definitely the very worst. Collin sucks too, but this is not news.

Jenna Hamilton only has herself to blame for her misery.
In the first half of "Awkward" Season 3, she had everything she ever wanted: loyal friends, a loving boyfriend, a good relationship with her parents. And then she in the Season 3A finale, she cheated on sweet Matty with Collin.
When Season 3B rolls around this October, Jenna's going to be feeling pretty guilty -- so much so that she cancels her birthday celebrations and can barely accept Matty's sweet, adorable, thoughtful birthday gift.
Yeah, Jenna knows she made a huge mistake. And it doesn't look like things will be getting any better for her.

MTV announced on Monday (Aug. 5) that they were ordering a fourth season of its critically acclaimed comedy "Awkward," though it will be the first without the guidance of creator Lauren Iungerich.

Television is worst when it's safe, and even some of the highest-rated shows in the landscape are culprits of pedaling the scripted norm: formulated one-liners, typical reveals, copying the routine methods of shows that have come before, simply re-packaging them for a different audience. And to honor that would be a slight to the brilliant breakout series elevating television to new heights: whether we're gasping every week at Shonda Rhimes' latest revelation on Scandal, waiting for the next blood-curdling murder on Dexter, or guiltily employing the twisted pleasure that is Pretty Little Liars, there's a lot of great TV that is evolving the art, and forcing us as viewers to grow along with it.
That's why for our third annual list of the 50 greatest TV episodes of the year, we made a point to celebrate the episodes and series that completely throw caution to the wind, creating some of the most mind-blowing,...

"That Girl Strikes Again" was a large Jenna Hamilton character study wrapped up in to 20 minutes of feel good comedy.
As I feel I say in every Awkward review, I’m continually surprised at how well this show can cram comedy, characters and relationships every week. Jenna is a bit of a stereotype when it comes to young women on TV shows: she’s insecure without really needing to be and she’s continually trying to redefine herself in areas she’s thriving in.
She is very much a stereotypical character on television because she defines herself almost completely on what others think of her, and the series is continually taking small baby steps to break her (and those around her) out of that shell. While it might be a stereotype, it’s also very true of the high school experience. Jenna’s entire social life has been public consumption...

Awkward eased into its new Tuesday time slot last night on par with its 2012 opener. The MTV comedy, created by Lauren Iungerich and starring Jenna Hamilton, kicked off its third with 2.14 million viewers over back-to-back episodes at 10 p.m. That's down a touch from last June's 2.2 million premiere but on par with the August finale. It also marks an improvement in the cable network's targeted younger demo, persons 12-34. The episode averaged a 2.3 rating in the key demo, up 5 percent for the series' highest premiere showing to date.

The promos Awkward Season 3 tell us that “Change Blows” - and once I checked in to see where we find everyone in the new season of the 2013 People’s Choice Award-winner for Favorite Cable TV Comedy, that phrase may be an understatement.
Last season’s ‘who will Jenna choose’ story is over and Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Matty (Beau Mirchoff) are solid, while Jake (Brett Davern) spent the summer with his new love, Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed).
But, never fear, things are anything but calm as our gang faces new challenges.
I recently spent some time on the Awkward set in Los Angeles to find out what we can expect with the new season, discovering there’s lots of fun (and heavy) stuff to come!
A Darker Awkward: Big themes like death and identity are big parts of the new season, but don’t expect the humor to be overshadowed.

"Awkward" Season 3 premieres on MTV this Tuesday (April 16 at 10 p.m. Et) and The Huffington Post caught up with star Ashley Rickards (the long-suffering Jenna Hamilton) to find out what junior year has in store for the quick-witted, fast-talking teens of Palos Hills High.
Last season, Jenna had the enviable task of choosing between Jake (Brett Davern) or Matty (Beau Mirchoff) as both boys vied for her affection -- ending the season back together with Matty, her summer camp hook-up and the guy she lost her virginity to. Now, as we return from another steamy summer, are they still together? And was Jake's school trip in Europe with Jenna's Bff, Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed), a dream or a nightmare? Rickards gave us a preview of what we can expect below, and we'll have more intel from the rest of the cast on Tuesday before the premiere.
How is Jenna feeling about beginning her junior year?...

Awkward., Season 2, Episode 12: “The Other Shoe”
Written by Lauren Iungerich
Directed by Michael Blieden
Airs Thursdays at 10:30 Pm on MTV
A path of unexpected success and luck can always leave individuals used to things not going their way more than a little nervous. The idea that something immense and catastrophic is right around the corner is an unshakeable feeling, and waiting for that often prevents individuals from enjoying the moment, or making rational decisions. With the constant troubles that have plagued Jenna Hamilton from the moment she received the care-frontation letter, and even prior to that, it stands to reason that she’d react to good luck in a less than enthusiastic manner, waiting for the other shoe to drop. The final episode of the season examines how Jenna reacts to good circumstances, and imparts some interesting lessons along the way.

After last week's surreal-yet-hilarious "what if?" episode, "Awkward" is firmly back to reality for its Season 2 finale (Thurs., Sept. 20 at 10:30 p.m. Et on MTV).
All season long, our heroine, Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards) has wavered between Matty McKibben (Beau Mirchoff) and Jake Rosati (Brett Davern), but the time has finally come to make a choice between the boy she lost her virginity to and her first real boyfriend.
But before Jenna could make a choice between the two guys in her life, she had to put herself first -- something that Rickards believes is a vital lesson for teenage girls to learn. "I think it is important -- the symbolism of Jenna choosing herself before making this decision between the boys," she told HuffPost TV on the red carpet for the show's finale party. "It’s important for girls to realize that you have to love yourself before...

“Hindsight is 20/20″ is one of the most common phrases today. People often find themselves, in times of turmoil, looking back at the decisions they have made, and wondering how things would turn out had they gone with another option instead. Many movies and television shows have explored this idea as well, providing an interesting glimpse into how things would have looked had writers decided to alter characters even a little bit. Awkward. goes down this route in this week’s episode, and while the hypothetical scenarios are fun to watch, the end result leaves this episode feeling like a filler to tide over audiences, an unexpected disappointment from the show.

Those of you who think Jenna Hamilton is still the most trouble gal on MTV's hit series Awkward. might want to take a second look. Everyone on the show is wonderfully hilarious and still tragically flawed, and no one matches the description more than Jenna's mom Lacey. She didn't have a clue what she was doing to her daughter in writing that carefrontation note, but Nikki DeLoach knew all along By Terron R. Moore
Ology: You do realize that Lacey is a horrible mom, right? It has to be crazy to portray her each week.

Love is a very mysterious thing. It is intoxicating, addictive, and all-consuming. It is also confusing, heart-breaking and by far the most elusive prize in the universe. Whether it is discovering a first love in high school or marrying your soul-mate, love is the mystery we would all like to solve. In a unique and clever storytelling technique, the MTV comedy series has cleverly woven through its second season the equally cursed love stories of Jenna Hamilton and her mother Lacey Hamilton (both fantastically portrayed by Ashley Rickards and Nikki Deloach). In a recent exclusive interview, Nikki took a few moments to share what is really going through the mind of Lacey and her incredibly complicated relationship with her daughter Jenna.
This season – hasn’t it just been a roller-coaster ride?!
Nikki: Yes, it has. I love this season. I think the writing is great. They did such a great job.

Awkward. S02E05: "My Love Is a Black Heart"
I have to feel sorry for a lot of you members of Team Jake right about now. There's trouble up ahead, and though Jake is the white knight that gets to walk Jenna Hamilton to her doorstep at night and plant one on her face, it's Matty McKibbin that's getting her hot and bothered. Though MTV's "Awkward" is still in the midst of its sophomore season, the network has decided to renew the critical hit for a third, supersized season, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed.

Awkward Renewed for Season 3 by MTV
The awkwardness of Jenna Hamilton's life won't be letting up anytime soon, as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Awkward has been renewed by MTV. The third season of the critically acclaimed comedy will feature an extended episode order of 20 episodes, up from its current order of 12 and likely to be split into two arcs of 10 episodes each.
Awkward becomes the latest recipient of an amped up episode order for MTV, following in the footsteps of Teen Wolf and its 24-episode third season. The show has been unexpectedly lavished with praise by critics, including a Critics Choice Television Award nomination for Ashley Rickards and a place on many 2011 year-end top 10s, with the audience growing during the second season. Which is all the more impressive, considering the show benefited from a Teen Mom lead-in last season and had ratings grow from the first episode through the finale.

Love triangles in TV shows are as common as unresolved sexual tension between partners in procedurals and a high level of second-hand embarrassment in "Jersey Shore," but MTV's "Awkward" (Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. Et) has taken a well-worn TV trope and made it fresh again.
Now in its second season, Lauren Iungerich's snarky comedy is refreshingly witty, wordy and relatable, with Ashley Rickards' Jenna Hamilton torn between the emotionally indecisive Matty (Beau Mirchoff) and the reliable Jake (Brett Davern), all while juggling family drama and the general travails of teenhood. My colleagues have already spoken to Ashley Rickards, Beau Mirchoff and creator Lauren Iungerich, so it only seemed fair to let the other side of the triangle weigh in on what's to come in Season 2. Find out what Brett Davern had to say about Jake and what's to come on "Awkward" below.

My biggest observation about the first season of Awkward. turned out to be, on most occasions, my least favorite thing about the show. Now, don't get me wrong—I've wholeheartedly fallen in love with Awkward.—but see, Jenna Hamilton (who's wonderfully captured by Ashley Rickards) is a girl whose fatal flaw is the simple fact that she doesn't ever do much: she's a 16-year-old fair looking girl, average in every sense of the word, who'd like a lot of things (Matty McKibben being that main thing) but lacks the balls to do something about it as much as she does the ability to blog it out. She acts internally, she reacts in voiceover, and Awkward. as a weekly adventure became a show about how many no good very bad things could happen to Jenna Hamilton while the far zanier people around her led more interesting lives.

One of the most refreshing things about MTV's "Awkward" (Season 2 premieres Thursday, June 28 at 10:30 p.m. Et) is how it plays around with the rules of romantic comedy but refuses to rigidly follow any of those rules.
In a recent interview, the show's creator, Lauren Iungerich, talked about how most romantic comedies set up a conflict that isn't really a conflict at all -- there's the guy who clearly is wrong for the heroine and the guy who's clearly right for her, if only she'd realize it. Not that this is the only problem with the "terrible" (Iungerich's word) crop of romantic comedies that Hollywood has churned out in the last decade, but as Iungerich noted, there's just never much mystery regarding who the heroine will ultimately end up with.

The summer of 2011 will be remembered for its successful launch of several fun television shows, but queen of them all is the MTV comedy series Awkward. Premised on a young teen who gets an anonymous letter on her 16th birthday, which leads to a series of comedic errors as friends and family believe she tried to commit suicide after receiving it, the show is a delicious blend of teenage angst wrapped in a colorful ensemble of characters and cheeky humor. In fact, the entire series feels like a “love letter” to modern high school life.
