Fifteen years ago, Fueled by Ramen began life in the dorm room of John Janick, a student at the University of Florida. These days, thanks to a catalog that includes releases by Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Panic! at the Disco, Jimmy Eat World and Yellowcard (to name just a few), an unusually strong commitment to their roster of artists and a harnessing of social media that borders on masterful, Fbr headquarters is now located many stories above Sixth Avenue in Manhattan, in a space shared with the very major Atlantic Records.
Needless to say, things have improved slightly since those dorm-room days. And on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the label will celebrate both their journey and...

Call us obsessively movie-centric, but when we listen to a good, new album, we can't help wondering what the band was watching when they wrote and recorded the songs. So when we caught Panic! at the Disco before their appearance on MTV's 'The Seven,' it was the first thing we asked.
"This time around, I watched 'Big Lebowski' the most," singer/songwriter Brendon Urie told NextMovie. "That's one of my favorite movies."
"Whether or not it is conscious or subconscious, a lot of it does get into the record."
As for specifics? "The scene in 'Big Lebowski' where they use Kenny Rogers' 'Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)' was amazing. That's actually what introduced me to that song for the first time. That beautiful scene -- or mini-film, I should say -- spans five minutes of the movie. It's just awesomely put together and edited.

Will they come out on top against Florence and the Machine? Second-round voting is under way on the Newsroom blog.

Panic! at the Disco came into the 2011 Musical March Madness tournament brimming with championship confidence, and, after making quick work of Avril Lavigne in the opening round, it appears as if that swagger was justified.
But now, as we enter the second round of Mmm, the guys in Panic! face another tough challenge, this time in the form of #13 Florence and the Machine, who handled Brandon Flowers with relative ease in their first-round matchup.
Second-round voting is now under way in the Panic/Florence matchup over on the Newsroom blog!
So while Panic! still like their chances of advancing to the Sweet 16, they're not about to overlook Florence (or her Machine). The way they see it, they're...

A few years ago, Panic! at the Disco were on top of the world, riding their awesome debut A Fever You Can't Sweat Out to platinum status and collecting an MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year for the spectacularly spastic "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." One difficult second album (the lovely but strange Pretty. Odd.) and some personnel upheaval later (members Ryan Ross and Jon Walker left to form the Young Veins, leaving behind frontman Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith), the group is back with Vices & Virtues, their third album. Though there are psychedelic elements left over from the experiments on Pretty. Odd., Vices & Virtues gets back into the habit of cranking out big emo riffs with splashes of goth and a lot of theater.
The album deals with a number of lyrical issues, but it also focuses on the split with Ross and Walker. As...

Really, you should be listening to music every day, but thanks to Twitter, Monday has become the best day of the week to discover new songs, show some love to the tune currently dominating your iPod playlist and quietly judge the listening habits of your closest friends. Yes, it's #MusicMonday, one of Twitter's most enduring trending topics. Hence "MTV News' #MusicMonday," a weekly look at the songs we are currently crushing on.
This week, Panic! at the Disco revel in their virtues and vices.
The arc of the career of Panic! at the Disco has been a wild ride. Over five years, the band went from underground darlings to massive headliners on the strength of their debut A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. Then came the difficult second album (2008's Pretty. Odd.), the loss of the exclamation point and the splintering of the group. But now the band is back...

Their mini-movie is out now; their new album is in stores Tuesday.

Panic! at the Disco officially return Tuesday with Vices & Virtues, their first album in three years and the first since the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker. But, of course, if you're a fan, you probably already knew both of those things.
What fans may not know is the message behind "The Overture," the mini-movie teaser the band posted earlier this month. Opening with a scene of frontman Brendon Urie telling two shadowy specters — who most assume represent Ross and Walker — "I'm gonna miss you guys ... looks like we're going to have to part ways" and featuring Panic! and a host of fantastical characters embarking on a journey (to points unknown), most seem to assume the clip represents the band putting their past to bed and heading out into the future.

One year ago, Panic! at the Disco overcame internal turmoil to make an impressive run at the MTV Musical March Madness championship trophy. While they ultimately came up short (they ended up getting knocked out by My Chemical Romance in the Elite 8 round), they proved that they are a formidable force when it comes to fan voting. Now that they have an excellent new album (the forthcoming Vices & Virtues) and a hit single ("The Ballad of Mona Lisa," which is in heavy rotation on MTV) blowing wind into their sails, will they emerge as the 2011 MTV Musical March Madness winner?
They certainly believe they can do it. "We're going to have to persevere," frontman Brendon Urie told MTV News. "We're going to have to start off strong and we're going to have to keep that momentum going."
"We're going to have to have great bench play ... the D's going to have to step up.

Last year, without the benefit of a new album or a chart-topping single, Panic! at the Disco managed to advance to the Elite 8 of MTV's Musical March Madness tournament, riding a wave of fan support to upset victories by Green Day, Death Cab for Cutie and the Young Veins (a win that must've been particularly sweet, given the, uh, history between the two groups), before running out of gas against eventual runners-up My Chemical Romance.
It was quite a ride, but rather than dwell on their victories, for the past 12 months, Panic! have been stewing over that loss to MCR. They watched as Coheed and Cambria hoisted the championship trophy, unable to suppress the thought that,...

We preview the band's third album, which recalls their Fever heyday and pushes past Pretty. Odd., in Bigger Than the Sound.

Just who, at this point in their career, after a breakout album, a benign follow-up, and a near breakup, are Panic! at the Disco? Are they the frilly dramaturges made famous by A Fever You Can't Sweat Out? The stony, California-dreamin' canyon children that showed up on Pretty. Odd.? Or, with the release of their third album, Vices & Virtues (due March 22), have they transformed themselves once again?
Well, yes to the latter. And no. Because while Vices sees Panic! physically changed (it's their first album since the departure of guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker, it is very much an album that harks back to their halcyon days. A whirling, whooshing thing that's long on dramatics — trilling strings, chittering electronics,...

After the departure of half the band, chart topping pop-rockers Panic! at the Disco returned to the studio as a duo (frontman Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith), and the result is their upcoming third album Vices & Virtues. The video for the first single "The Ballad of Mona Lisa" recently made its debut on MTV.com, and it's a strange but classy mashup of Steampunk costumes and gadgets with the tale of a dashing but kinda creepy ghost helping to solve his own murder. You can watch it right here after the break, so flip it and see! MTV.com declared the video, directed by Panic's longtime visual collaborator Shane Drake (and inspired in part by the fantasy films of Georges Melies), to be the band's...

In their new video for "The Ballad of Mona Lisa," Panic! at the Disco re-imagine themselves not just as steampunk balladeers, but as the recently deceased. And while both depictions required some rather creative costuming — the steampunk attire is courtesy of the California-based League of S.T.E.A.M. — only one role forced Brendon Urie to channel his inner thespian.
"I play two characters ... one was inspired by 'Sweeney Todd' and is very Johnny Depp," he told MTV News last month on the set of the "Mona Lisa" video. "But that was all Shane [Drake']s direction. He let me know, 'Hey, this would be cool if you tried this,' and I'm not an actor,...

'The Calendar' from March 29 album directly addresses the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker.

During Panic! at the Disco's Tuesday night show in New York City — the first time they'd been on a Stateside stage in nearly 18 months — they made no bones about the fact that they had put the past behind them. Free of the internal bickering that threatened to derail them, they were loose, lively and, most of all, happy.
But just because they've moved on doesn't mean Panic! aren't still dealing with the past. Their new album, the upcoming Vices & Virtues (due March 29), is directly indebted to the ground they covered on their debut, 2005's A Fever You Can't Sweat Out (some may even suggest it's that album's logical successor), full of whirring electronics, stirring strings and a definite sense of theatrics, something that was missing on their follow-up,...

The last time MTV News spoke with Panic! At The Disco, Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith had just premiered "New Perspective," a song they'd written for the Megan Fox horror flick "Jennifer's Body." They were fresh off a run of shows opening for Blink-182 and only two months removed from the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker, who were still 10 months away from releasing their first album as the Young Veins.
So, yeah, it's been a while.
But in recent weeks, Panic! have slowly begun edging their way back into the spotlight. They've announced plans for a new album — Vices & Virtues, due March 29 — and unveiled the first single from that disc, "The Ballad of Mona Lisa,...

It’s been three years since we’ve a new album from Panic! At the Disco, but the band is coming back with “Vices & Virtues,” on March 29. The new set was produced by Butch Walker and John Feldmann. As you may recall, Panic! At the Disco has been through a little upheaval since we last heard from them. The former foursome is now a duo: singer/instrumentalist Brendon Urie and drummer Spencer Smith. In 2009, guitarist/vocalist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker left the group. They were replaced by Ian Crawford and Dallon Weekes for Panic’s tour with Blink-182, but aren’t permanent...
