WME Independent has signed on to rep world sales rights on Nuremberg, a historical thriller set in post-war Germany from filmmaker James Vanderbilt, and will introduce the pic to buyers at the upcoming Cannes market.
The film is led by Russell Crowe (Gladiator), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), and Michael Shannon. Rounding out the ensemble are Richard E. Grant, Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Lydia Peckham, Wrenn Schmidt, Lotte Verbeek, and Andreas Pietschmann.
Vanderbilt directs from a script he adapted from the book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist by Jack El-Hai. Production is currently underway in Hungary. Nick Meyer’s Sierra Pictures is also consulting on the sales and distribution of the film.

Exclusive: Walden Media has promoted Julia Friley to Vice President of Scripted Development.
In her new role, Friley will create and develop commercial film and television projects with a focus on authentic characters rooted in stories of courage. Currently, she’s overseeing the development of several projects, including feature adaptations of the bestselling novels The Last Animal, Coyote Sunrise and The Sky Blues.
Most recently serving as Director of Development, Friley joined Walden Media as a creative executive in 2020. Since then, she’s also been involved in the creative development and production of projects like Apple TV+’s limited series Manhunt, Netflix’s Emmy winner The Baby-Sitters Club, and Apple TV+’s sci-fi pic Finch, starring Tom Hanks, which in 2021 brought the fledgling streamer its largest opening weekend ever.
Prior to her time at Walden, the Boston University alum worked in development at Paramount Animation, Fox Family, Columbia Pictures and Sony’s International Film Group.

Colin Hanks and Mark O’Brien are set to star in “Nuremberg” from writer-director James Vanderbilt.

O’Brien will play Colonel John Amen, one of the chief interrogators at the trial, while Hanks will play Dr. Gustav Gilbert, a military psychiatrist assigned to evaluate the Nazis. John Papsidera (“Oppenheimer”) is casting the film.
From Bluestone Entertainment and Walden Media, the film is now set to begin principal photography in Hungary on Feb. 23. Adapted from the book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist” by Jack El-Hai, “Nuremberg” chronicles the eponymous trials held between 1945 and 1946 by the Allies against the defeated Nazi regime.
Bluestone Entertainment, Walden Media, and Széchenyi Funds acquired the rights to El-Hai’s book and Vanderbilt’s script and are financing the film.

Former Epix exec Benjamin Tappan has joined Walden Media as president of production, overseeing the shingle’s TV and film development, as well as production. Tappan’s hire comes as Walden Media also looks to broaden its programming mix. Tappan will report to Walden Media president and CEO Frank Smith, who announced the hire on Tuesday.
“Ben’s vast experience as both a production executive and talent representative along with his great track record of making popular and critically praised content make him uniquely suited for leading our creative team,” Smith said in a statement. “We greatly look forward to his leadership and contributions as we build the Walden Media of the future.”
Tappan most recently served as a consultant focused on scripted development and production at his Tap/In Entertainment. He spent four years at Epix (now known as MGM+), joining in 2015 and helping launch the pay network’s first three straight-to-series productions.
