We examine the hate crimes in It Chapter Two and the importance of making Bill Hader’s Richie Tozier gay.
This article contains major spoilers for It Chapter Two and Stephen King’s novel.
Despite what internet memes have been saying for years, it turns out Pennywise the Dancing Clown was not an ally or supporter of Lgbtq causes. This should not come as a shock, yet for many, the level of bruality the child-eating space clown reserved for a gay character in It Chapter Two’s opening was nothing short of horrifying. As the introduction to a sprawling finale of Stephen King’s ode to childhood joys and traumas, and the adults who repress both, this amount of cruelty is glaringly uncomfortable, even for those who had been prepared by a novel that’s even more steeped than the movies in the agony of hate and the suffering it ferments.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details of the opening scene of “It: Chapter Two.”
Fans of Stephen King’s novel “It” will be familiar with the opening scene of “It: Chapter Two,” director Andy Muschietti’s follow-up to his first “It” installment in 2017.
A gay couple is walking home from a carnival in Derry, Maine when they are brutally attacked by a group of teens hurling slurs. During the beating, the attackers throw one of them from a bridge into a river. It’s a brutally realistic scene — that is, until Pennywise appears and drags the man out of the water and bites into his lifeless body, as his boyfriend looks on in terror.
While the deadly gay bashing is never addressed later in the film, it turns out the event occurs in King’s novel and was inspired by Charlie Howard, a real gay man who was killed...

In case you couldn’t tell, production on It: Chapter Two has gotten underway. Although, what with two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain and Golden Globe nominee James McAvoy each taking to their respective Instagram accounts and informing their fellow losers of that very fact, it really should’ve already been apparent.
Nonetheless, having filled out the remainder of the roles with Teach Grant – who landed the part of adult Henry Bowers – and Isaiah Mustafa – who will be portraying the adult Mike Hanlon – It: Chapter Two has indeed begun principal photography in Toronto with a full cast, or so it seemed.

Everything we know about Stephen King's It Chapter Two, including latest news, release date, cast, and much more!
The new film adaptation of Stephen King’s It, as you may already know, has been split into two films. The first, which tells the story of the Losers' Club when they were kids, arrived to rave reviews and record-breaking box office numbers. Andres Muschietti directed It, and he’s on board for the second film, too.
It Chapter Tworequires a whole new cast since the story focuses on the adult Losers, but we're still seeing the little Losers' Club in the sequel via flashbacks, which director Andy Muschietti discussed with us right here. Which might explain that it will have a monumental two hour and 45 minute running time!

Gabriele Muccino’s emotional drama about a teenager holidaying in San Francisco is slightly preposterous but watchable for its unpredictability
Gabriele Muccino is a commercially minded Italian director with a foothold in Hollywood, and I have a soft spot for his emotional drama The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), starring Will Smith as the single dad trying to pull himself up out of poverty by his bootstraps.
There’s a fair bit of sugar in the mix here. His new movie (in the Cinema del Giardino sidebar) is a coming-of-age story about a lonely, intense Italian teen called Marco (Brando Paccito) who uses the payout following a motor scooter accident to fund the summer holiday of a lifetime in San Francisco. The snag is that he finds himself having to go with Maria (Matilda Lutz), an uptight princessy type from his school whose homophobic attitudes come out into the open when she...
