Wyoming has the fewest residents among all U.S. states, but for a few hours on July 14, its population swelled considerably.
On that day, beauty influencer Jeffree Star drew a record-breaking crowd for the grand opening of a brick-and-mortar shop in Casper. The so-called “Jeffree Star Store” sells a unique combination of products: makeup and meat.
Star’s fans came from far and wide to check out the eclectic new store. “We came all the way from Bentonville, Arkansas — 14, 15 hours from here,” attendee Liset Garcia told Oil City News. “I’ve followed Jeffree Star since he was a YouTuber and went through my middle school and high school years being emo because of him.” A fan named Odessa Castillo told Business Insider that she drove from Wisconsin to catch the opening. “Jeffree means everything to me,” Castillo said.
According to Business Insider, some attendees waited over 12 hours for their chance to enter the store.

Gangsta Boo, a rapper and former member of hip-hop group ‘Three 6 Mafia’, passed away. She was 43.
Her death was reported by Fox 13 Memphis and Wreg Memphis.
According to Fox 13, Boo – whose birth name was Lola Mitchell – was found dead around 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Wreg reported that Boo’s death was confirmed by a representative. The cause of her death has not been disclosed, reports Variety.
A product of the Dirty South school of hip-hop in the 1990s, Boo’s edgy raps and frank sexuality made her an energetic Memphis counterpart to Philadelphia rapper Eve, Brooklyn’s Lil Kim and Miami’s Trina.
Like those female rappers, Boo’s start came with a prominent regional crew – ‘Three 6 Mafia’, founded by DJ Paul, Juicy J and Lord Infamous – with whom she recorded a handful of studio albums until her departure in 2002.

At the end of every tour of Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, country music fans have the opportunity to ascend a small staircase and have their photo taken on the very stage where legends like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash once stood. On this November afternoon, a few gray-haired stragglers of the day’s final tour group are doing just that — paying little mind to the Southern rap star trying to soundcheck behind them. To be fair, Yelawolf doesn’t much resemble his fearsome moniker. Dressed in khaki pants, a striped sweater,...

Demi Lovato is off the market once again! Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the “Sober” singer was in a new relationship following her split from fiancé Max Ehrich in 2021.
At the time, a source told People that the songstress was dating a fellow musician. “It’s a really happy and healthy relationship,” a source shared with the outlet, noting that Demi’s partner is “a super great guy.”
Following the news, Demi stepped out in public for the first time with musician Jute on Tuesday. The pair was coordinated in black-and-white outfits as they left dinner at Lavo. Demi had her man by her side as she made an appearance on the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” the same day, where she performed “Substance”, which he co-wrote.

“It was fifteen years ago, and I still don’t believe it,” says DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, possibly the most shocking Oscar winners in history. The Memphis-spawned hip-hop group won Best Original Song in 2006 for the theme track from the Terence Howard-starring film “Hustle & Flow,” which bears the spectacularly unsubtle title of “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp.”
It’s safe to say the Academy Awards had never seen anything like the group’s performance on the show, either. There was an elaborate, Oscar-level set themed around the film with dancers and dazzling lights, but there was also Three 6 Mafia swaggering across the stage in street wear while the film’s co-star Taraji P. Henson belted the song’s chorus, resplendent in a glamorous white dress and heels.

Korn have shared a hard-rock cover of Charlie Daniels’ signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” featuring Alabama rapper Yelawolf.
The track finds Korn recreating the song’s furious fiddle duel with a blaze of guitars, which adds the particularly ominous pall of heavy metal to Daniels’ classic tale. But Korn never forfeit the playfulness that defined the original, as frontman Jonathan Davis and Yelawolf embrace the roles of the Devil and Johnny and deliver the song’s story with plenty of dramatic oomph.

Dubbed by Variety senior film critic Peter Debruge as “a sincere, Southern-fried buddy movie,” “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” directed and written by Michael Schwartz and Tyler Nilson, details the budding relationship formed between a grifter with a heart of gold named Tyler (Shia Labeouf), a man with Down Syndrome who runs away from a senior citizen home to pursue his dream of becoming a pro wrestler (Zack Gottsagen), and his caregiver (Dakota Johnson). Gottsagen stands out in the film created just for him. Playing a fictional version of himself, the film follows his character’s transformation from a mere product of his circumstances to someone who controls his narrative. He also manages to build his own makeshift family along the way.
What was that like to shoot that opening scene?
Michael Schwartz: “It was great. That was the first scene that we shot with Bruce Dern and there was a lot of choreography.

North Carolina’s Outer Banks provide a unique, Southern setting for Peanut Butter Falcon, a predictable road movie that benefits from one outstanding performance at its center. Zac (Zack Gottsagen) is a young man with Down Syndrome who has been situated in a senior care center by the state since he has no family or money. Popular with the elderly residents, Zac’s passion is wrestling and every day he watches a decades-old VHS tape featuring ‘The Salt Water Redneck’ (Thomas Haden Church), an old wrestler who once ran a wrestling school that Zac thinks still exists and wants to attend. Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), a kind woman who works at the facility considers Zac a ‘flight risk’. Zac shares a room with old Carl (Bruce Dern), who’s not happy about having to watch that same obnoxious wrestling video all day but understands Zac’s desire to break fee. One night,...

“You like Mark Twain?” asks a character midway through Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz’s road movie. The person saying this is a man who is, coincidentally, named Tyler, a swamp rat played by Shia Labeouf so beautifully backwoods-scuzzy that you can practically smell the country funk coming off of him. The woman he’s addressing is Eleanor (Dakota Johnson), a city-dweller who’s found herself in a middle-of-nowhere service station and in his company. The question is rhetorical. Whether or not she’s a fan of the literary genius,...

On paper, “The Peanut Butter Falcon” sounds like a cursed film; like a straight-faced parody of the quirkiest and most nauseatingly schematic American indies. The title alone takes you back to the awful darkness of “Napoleon Dynamite,” and the premise — a winsome young wrestling fan with Down syndrome escapes from his care facility with the help of a depressed crab fisherman played by Shia Labeouf — could’ve been cobbled together by a computer program that’s been fed 20 years’ worth of rejected Sundance scripts.
And the opening few minutes of the actual movie, in which our hero attempts a cute and kooky jailbreak while a banjo-tinged b-side from the “Beasts of the Southern Wild” score wails on the soundtrack, seem determined to confirm your most cynical suspicions. In hindsight, however, that rope-a-dope of a start is actually a fitting introduction to a warm (if somewhat overcooked) dramedy about people who’ve lost faith in themselves,...

Nothing feels better than when a film wins you over, fully and truly. The Peanut Butter Falcon is all heart and inspires joy within you from start to finish. Flying under the radar, this adventure story is one of the year’s absolute gems, in a way that nothing else can fully touch. There’s simply no other movie like this one out in the world. There’s magic in this picture, engrained in its very core. You won’t even be able to put your finger on it until the end. It’s simply a feeling that wells up within you as the plot moves forward. Kudos to all involved for crafting something so tremendous. Presented as a modern day Mark Twain tale, the movie tells the story of Zak (Zack Gottsagen), a 22 year old man with Down syndrome who has the dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Stuck...

"While you been doing the paperwork, we been doing something called 'living.'" Roadside Attractions has unveiled an official trailer for an indie drama titled The Peanut Butter Falcon, which first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. This amusing indie is the feature directorial debut of filmmakers Tyler Nilson & Michael Schwartz, and is described as a "modern Mark Twain style adventure story". Shia Labeouf stars as a small time outlaw turned unlikely coach who joins forces with Zak, a young man with Down Syndrome on the run from the nursing home with the dream of becoming a professional wrestler. The impressive ensemble cast includes Zack Gottsagen as Zak, along with Dakota Johnson, John Hawkes, Thomas Haden Church, Bruce Dern, Jon Bernthal, Yelawolf, Jake Roberts, & Mick Foley. I like the quote in the trailer: "the sweetest darn film of the decade." Looks like a good one, funny and optimistic.

As I write this column (at 10:52am Eastern Time) the Us is on the verge of a government shut down. The last time this happened was in 1996 under Bill Clinton and I don't really remember it too well because I was in elementary school at the time. My biggest concern was whether or not the shut down meant the schools would close too. That answer was no, so I stopped caring immediately. This time I care a little more but I find that every time I start reading too much about what is essentially a giant pissing contest between the two parties I just get angry that it seems like none of the legislators are interested in acting in the best interests of Americans, they're just looking to score some talking points for their reelection campaign which never actually begins or ends, it's just a constant process. Anyway, with...
