The final season of Jane the Virgin is almost upon us! The fifth and final season of The CW's quirky, sweet rom-com-meets-telenovela-parody is set to begin on March 27. With plenty of major plotlines - and at least one massive cliffhanger - to resolve, we're excited to see what the show has in store for its final bow. For the most part, the cast has been pretty tight-lipped about what we can expect to see, but they've let a few details out of the bag so far.
Gina Rodriguez Will Direct Another Episode
At a panel discussion in Texas in March 2018, which was covered by Variety, star Gina Rodriguez talked about the experience of making her directorial debut with the season four episode "Chapter Seventy-Four," and she hinted at repeating her time behind the camera sometime in the fifth season.
"[I plan to] do more next year - in our final season," she explained.

It's not over 'til it's over, and sometimes not even then. Although it's not technically "cancelled," the Jane the Virgin TV show will finish its original run on The CW with the upcoming fifth season, but the story may not end there. The network is developing a Jane the Virgin spinoff, which is still untitled. The current idea is for an anthology series featuring characters from Jane's novel, and Jane Villanueva herself (i.e. Gina Rodriguez) may narrate the new series.

Last season, with Supergirl as its lead-in on Monday nights, the demo ratings for The CW's Jane the Virgin TV show only dropped a little more than five percent, and its total ratings grew a skosh. In its fourth season, it now follows the network's lowest rated TV series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, on ratings-challenged Fridays. CW President Mark Pedowitz cited the satirical telenovela's critical acclaim when it was picked up for a fourth installment, but rumor has it the episode order has already been cut. Since this season will leave it with a good syndication package, will Jane the Virgin be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned. A CW comedy-drama Jane the Virgin stars Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Ivonne Coll, Jaime Camil, and Justin Baldoni. It's official. Although it's not "cancelled," because it was just renewed, the upcoming fifth season of the Jane the Virgin TV show will be its final outing on The CW.
Star Gina Rodriguez had implied the romantic comedy-drama would end with season five, but in late April, creator Jennie Snyder Urman said she could not confirm Jane the Virgin would end its acclaimed, but low-rated run next year. The CW released its Fall 2018 Schedule today, and Jane wasn't listed, so expect the fifth and final installment to bow in the mid-season.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Chapter Eighty-One,” the season 4 finale of “Jane The Virgin.”
The fourth season finale of “Jane The Virgin” was supposed to be a time of celebration: Alba (Ivonne Coll) became an American citizen; Rafael (Justin Baldoni) planned to propose to Jane (Gina Rodriguez); Rogelio’s (Jaime Camil) American telenovela was back on track; Xo (Andrea Navedo) was fighting cancer; and the charges against Petra (Yael Grobglas) were dropped and she was in a happy relationship with J.R. (Rosario Dawson).
But show wouldn’t be living up to its true dramatic potential if things ended so easily — let alone so happily. So in a surprise twist, it was not only revealed that Petra actually was guilty of killing her twin sister, but also that Rafael was pulling away from Jane because Michael (Brett Dier) was still alive.
Or is he?...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Jane the Virgin,” Season 4, Episode 17, “Chapter Eighty-One.”]
Well, we really didn’t see that one him coming.
While “Jane the Virgin” hinted that something huge and unforeseen would happen in the finale, that felt as if it were an obvious promise. After all, it’s a show based on a telenovela. But what would it be this time? Many hints pointed to another death or a deep, dark secret in Rafael’s (Justin Baldoni) past that would put a monkey wrench in his future happiness with Jane (Gina Rodriguez).
Viewers had become somewhat used to the usual twists — dead bodies! secret twins! — by now. Besides, after the show killed off Jane’s husband Michael (Brett Dier) before the third season even reached its halfway point, it felt as if viewers couldn’t be that blindsided again… until Friday’s Season 4 finale.
Throughout the episode, Rafael had acted despondent and upset...

While her virginity may be long gone, Jane is coming back. The CW has renewed its Jane the Virgin TV show for a fifth season, despite low (and further declining) ratings. Nielsen households aside, the comedy-drama continues to garner critical acclaim, and season five will move it into the neighborhood of the favored 100-episode mark. A CW satirical telenovela, Jane the Virgin stars Gina Rodriguez, Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Ivonne Coll, Jaime Camil, and Justin Baldoni. Although saving herself for marriage, Jane's (Rodriguez) life was turned upside down when she got pregnant via accidental artificial insemination. The fourth season kicked off after a time jump, with Jane drawing upon her grief to write a book about her love story with the late Michael (Bret Dier). She and Rafael (Baldoni) are now close friends, and their mischievous son Mateo...

After what felt like an eternity, Supergirl has finally returned from its winter hiatus. Sure, it’ll be forced into hibernation again in a matter of weeks, but let’s just enjoy seeing the Girl of Steel while we can, shall we?
To say that a lot went down in last night’s midseason premiere is an understatement. Not only did the Legion of Super-Heroes – Mon-El, Saturn Girl and Brainiac 5, in this case – come together for the first time on this particular series, but Reign continued handing anyone who had the guts to take her on their respective asses, effectively proving that she’s easily one of the Arrowverse’s most powerful villains to date.
Luckily for everyone, the Maiden of Might showed up just in time to help balance the scales in the favor of good, thus forcing the Worldkiller to retreat and lick her wounds. Still, this war is far,...

Even with an extended hiatus looming, it sure does look like Supergirl will squeeze in a fair amount of memorable moments within the four episodes set to air over the next few weeks. For starters, the Legion of Super-Heroes will be making their presence known in the midseason premiere itself.
So far, the network has been slowly pulling back the curtain on each individual member of one of DC’s oldest and most beloved super teams. Just last week, for instance, we got our first look at Brainiac 5 and, yesterday, we finally saw Mon-El donning some heroic threads.
Normally, the Arrowverse costuming department does a pretty fine job, but the online reaction to how the Legion is thus far appearing has been met with some consternation. While Smallville‘s iteration of the team was a bit more casual in appearance, they were recognizable as those characters. Supergirl‘s take,...

To this point, Supergirl season 3 has proven to be a different beast from its predecessor. Last year, we were given a science fiction tour de force as the series fully embraced its comic book roots, often feeling like a live action answer to Superman: The Animated Series. This time, however, the focus has been placed more on drama, perhaps in an effort to keep the show’s budget in check.
Regardless, the back half of this season will still mine the DC well as much as possible, for we know that the Legion of Super-Heroes are set to make an impact upon the show’s return from hiatus. And, with that, Mon-El will finally suit up – only his costume isn’t quite accurate to the source material.
As you can see in the accompanying gallery, the network has offered up two new posters of the Daxamite: One providing a look at his new threads,...
