Supergirl Season 6 Episode 4
To vanquish the Phantoms and escape the Phantom Zone, Supergirl motions toward horror with its body-snatching plot in National City and eerie quest over in the Phantom Zone. With the Prime Phantom still terrorizing National City and Kara and her father still trapped, the Super Friends had their hands full while still trying to come to terms with the emotional aspect of losing Kara, mostly by consuming Scotch or doughnuts.
In an early bout with phantoms, a seemingly defeated phantom coming from lying on the ground to standing up in one smooth movement was a particularly cool genre moment for the usually-light Supergirl. The final showdown with the mini-Phantom Zone on Earth has more horror beats, like when Brainy is taken and he claws his way from the shadows – his red eyes a sign he’s been...

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 2
While our heroes work on freeing Supergirl from the Phantom Zone and its resident space dementors, Lex Luthor’s courtroom drama over his latest plan for world domination plays out expeditiously. It’s a somewhat uneven hour of television that does best when it leans into the lessons these women have learned, whether that’s Alex Danvers pushing herself to bring Supergirl home instantaneously, M’gann schooling J’onn J’onzz on the dangers of charging into dangerous missions too quickly, or Lena Luther in what feels like a synthesis of everything the character has learned in six seasons of trying to be a good person in a world that expects her to be bad.
The case against Lex Luthor rests on Eve Tessmacher’s testimony, effectively putting a target on her back. Supergirl hasn...

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 1
Supergirl is back for one last season, and they’re making it count. Kara and friends returned to finish out last season’s cliffhangers, including Brainy fighting for his life, Lex superpowering himself thanks to Leviathan, and Andrea Rojas’s life in shambles.
“Rebirth” packs just about every kind of punch, giving us the joy of seeing Kara and Lena reunited, the satisfaction of Lena clocking her brother, and the glee of an immortal Lex taking on a fully powered team of Superfriends, now with 100% more M’Gann, plus a suited and booted Alex Danvers. It’s impressive how much this hour of television manages to give so much of what we want, without any of the downsides of fan service. The writers knew, for example, that the anti-life weapon had to crap out on the Superfriends the first time they tried it,...

Exclusive: Azie Tesfai, who stars as Kelly Olsen on the CW’s Supergirl, is doing double duty this season. She co-wrote, with supervising producer J. Holtham, episode 12 for the show’s upcoming sixth and final season.
Many actors have directed episodes on the series before, but this is the first time an actor has penned an episode for one of Greg Berlanti’s shows. David Ramsey (Arrow) is set to direct.
“I am so grateful to write for Supergirl‘s final season. It’s been such an honor to play Kelly Olsen, a Bipoc and queer character in the DC universe,” Tesfai said. “Working in our amazing writers room and co-writing an episode has been an immensely educational and empowering experience. Writing is such a passion for me and I’m excited to continue on this creative journey.”

Yesterday brought some sad news for Arrowverse fans, as it’s been confirmed that Supergirl will wrap up with its sixth season. This makes it the second series of The CW’s DC TV universe to end, following Arrow earlier this year. Social media is full of reactions from those who don’t want to say goodbye to the Girl of Steel, and a few of the cast have also released statements in response to the news.
You may have seen star Melissa Benoist’s post already, which she shared soon after the announcement. It’s known that the decision to call it quits was a mutual one between the network and the actress, who’s currently pregnant with her first child. And below, you can find what she had to say about the news.

“Supergirl” will conclude with its upcoming sixth season, The CW announced Tuesday.
The broadcast network says that the creative team behind the Melissa Benoist-led superhero series — which will be the first “Arrowverse” series to come to an end since “Arrow” itself did last spring — “has started developing the storylines for the final 20 episodes” and Season 6 will begin production later this month.
“Supergirl” premiered in October 2015 on CBS before moving over to The CW for its second season the following fall. The CW plans to premiere the sixth and final season, which was pushed from the fall schedule due to Covid-related production delays, sometime in 2021.
Along with Benoist, Season 5 of “Supergirl” starred Chyler Leigh, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair and David Harewood, with guest star Jon Cryer.
Here’s the description for that batch of episodes, which ended in May:

Supergirl will be taking her last flight. The CW and producers Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions just announced that the drama series starring Melissa Benoist will conclude with the upcoming sixth season, set for premiere on the CW in 2021. It is the second series from the CW’s DC Arrowverse to come to an end following Arrow, which wrapped its eight-year run last season.
Production on all 2020-21 broadcast series was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Supergirl had been targeting a later start of production to accommodate the pregnancy of star Benoist. I hear the series is slated to begin filming in Vancouver next week, pending a deal with the local unions to comply with SAG’s testing guidelines, which has been a sticking point for a number of Hollywood productions there. The series would initially be filming around Benoist who would join the production later, I have heard.

Supergirl season 5 was unfortunately forced to wrap up early thanks to the coronavirus pandemic that’s shut down much of the industry. And we have no idea when the show will be able to come back to finish its story. While Supergirl Season 6 has already been announced, the show isn’t part of the group of Arrowverse shows slated to return in January 2021. This means we could be waiting well into next summer for Supergirl to be back on our screens, and to find out how the story of Season 5 was meant to end.
Luckily, “Immortal Kombat” turned out to be a fairly decent unexpected stopping point for the season. Which is obviously a relief, but also possibly a sign that between this, The Flash, and Batwoman – which also wrapped up their runs with strong episodes that were never meant to serve as finales – these...

Supergirl returns this weekend but, for one week only, the title will refer to Alex Danvers rather than Kara. Called “Alex in Wonderland,” the sixteenth episode of the Girl of Steel’s fifth season will continue Alex’s adventures through Obsidian’s virtual reality world, following on from last week’s “Reality Bytes.” In that episode, we saw Alex eyeing up her own super-suit for a moment. Next time around, she’ll put it on and take to the skies as she gets a taste of her sister’s life.
Chyler Leigh has been teasing this development for a while, posting a behind-the-scenes snap of herself in the super-suit on social media. These new promo images give us a much better look at the costume, though. As you can see in the gallery below, Alex’s Supergirl suit resembles Kara’s, but with the red and blue swapped for black and turquoise.

Whereas last week’s 100th episode celebration reminded us of all the things we love about Supergirl, “The Bodyguard” unfortunately does the exact opposite. A fairly dull hour that doubles down on Season 5’s worst narrative tendencies, there’s little about this episode that feels worth remembering or was even that fun to watch in the moment. (Save for a couple of moments we’ll be touching on later.)
The concept of anchoring an entire season of Supergirl around the evils of technology has always been a bit….well, questionable, at best. As much as we all love this show, it has a tendency to be a bit heavy-handed in terms of its narrative metaphors. And the terror of Big Tech is precisely the sort of story that needs nuance, not lines drawn around designated Good and Bad Guys. Unfortunately, the latter appears to be what we’re getting.

Supergirl Season 5, Episode 8
The ambition of CW's DC superhero crossover events is unparalleled on network TV, existing as an annual reminder of what can be possible when TV networks dream big. That being said, working to bring together a massive logisitcal and narrative project like "Crisis On Infinite Earths," set to begin next Sunday, isn't without its sacrifices. This year, one of those sacrifices is the rushed conclusion of Supergirl's non-Crisis storylines.
"The Wrath of Rama Khan" has a lot to do in just 42 minutes as it rushes to prepare for "Crisis On Infinite Earths," and it doesn't pull it off. While the episode ends (pre-Crisis prologue) with the implication that the Leviathan arc is far from over, this chapter...

Already this season, Supergirl has lost one of its regulars in the form of Mehcad Brooks’ James Olsen, who’d previously been with the show since its beginnings on CBS. Now, it’s looking like another major player in the Melissa Benoist-fronted series may also be about to check out in the form of Katie McGrath, who plays Lena Luthor.

Supergirl Season 5, Episode 6
Supergirl may be an ensemble show, but it has one character at its center: Kara Danvers. So what does it look like when, instead of centering the character of Supergirl, the narrative makes her a supporting character in someone else's story—or, in this case, two other characters' stories? We get "Confidence Women," which is great news for us viewers. This episode got ridiculous at some points, as it tried to put decades of backstory into two acts of a TV episode, but it was never anything less than wildly entertaining.
"Confidence Women" looks back on how Lena Luthor and Andrea Rojas—two billionaire best friends (or maybe more? There is a lot of subtext on this show)—who have gone through some shit.

After capturing Rip Roar, Kara tries to get through to Russell in an exclusive look at Supergirl Season 5 Episode 6, "Confidence Woman"
Supergirl's boundless optimism is one of the many reasons we love her. No matter how dire things get, she always believes in the good in people, and that the good in people can win out.
That probably explains why, in this exclusive clip from tonight's episode, Kara's interrogation technique with new villain Rip Roar (Nick Sagar) is to try to connect with Russell, the person whose body he inhabits. Kara's strength comes from her values and her connections to others, so it stands to reason that she so often draws on those same emotional ties to bring others back from the brink. But will it work?

So, James is really gone.
Do the remaining characters know that? Probably not, because there was no mention of him at all on Supergirl Season 5 Episode 5.
While this is far from surprising as James had gotten neglected over the years, it is still shocking that not even his sister talked about how he's doing in Calvintown given how perfect she has been since she arrived in National City.
Well, our heroes were just too busy trying to stop the recent string of contract killers from taking out anybody else. Did they accomplish their goal?
Kara and William decided to team up, albeit with some resistance from William, against a seemingly evil Andrea just as she was launching her Vr contact lenses to the world.
But, how evil is she, really? And, does William actually have any substantial evidence incriminating Andrea?

We entered Supergirl’s fifth season knowing it would be Mehcad Brooks’ last as a series regular, but that didn’t make James’ exit on Sunday’s episode feel any less abrupt.

We’ve known for a while that Kara is getting a costume change when “Supergirl” returns for its fifth season in October, but until now we’ve only had a single, somewhat obscured photo to see what it looks like. That changed Thursday when The CW released five new images from the upcoming season, including a bright and surprisingly casual look at the new uniform, and it’s pretty cool.
In addition, the CW also released four other images from the upcoming season, so fans of Dreamer, Querl Dox (Aka Braniac 5), Alex and J’onn J’onzz (or maybe Hank Henshaw) are covered, too.
But first up, the new uniform for Kara (Melissa Benoist) ditches her old super skirt and tights for a body suit similar to the one worn by her cousin Clark/Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). It’s a cool take on the classic Kryptonian good-guy outfit and we...

Nair will play a hardened, cynical reporter named William Dey, who looks down on Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) idealism on the surface but has criminal underworld ties that will take the story in darker, deeper directions. When Supergirl returns in the fall for her fifth season, there will be a string of new additions to the cast.
During the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel, it was revealed that Julie Gonzalo (Dallas 2.0) and Staz Nair (Game of Thrones) would be new series regulars.
Gonzalo is on board as DC Comics character Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata), “a polished businesswoman and heir to a Central American tech empire [who is] now making a hostile advance into the world of media."
"Unapologetic and unafraid to make waves, she also holds a mystical secret.”
The character is taking over as head of CatCo, meaning we already know who James Olsen's replacement at the firm will be when Mehcad Brooks bows out of his role in the fall.

National City is getting two new residents: “Supergirl” Season 5 has added Julie Gonzalo as DC’s Andrea Rojas aka Acrata, and UK-based actor Staz Nair as renowned reporter William Dey, executive producers revealed during The CW show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
Gonzalo’s version of the DC Comics character is described as “a polished businesswoman and heir to a Central American tech empire, Andrea Rojas (aka Acrata) is now making a hostile advance into the world of media. Unapologetic and unafraid to make waves, she also holds a mystical secret.”
Nair — who played Qhono, a Dothraki warrior loyal to Daenerys Targaryen on “Game of Thrones” — is set as “hardened reporter William Dey,” an original character created for the CW series.

Two new cast members are heading to National City for Supergirl‘s upcoming fifth season, which will also see a new look for Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist).
Kara (Benoist) will be sporting a new Kryptonian supersuit this season — the first revamp since her co-worker, friend, and confidante Winn Schott designed her iconic red and blue gear in season one. See image below.
The new suit, conceptualized by Supergirl costume designer Victoria Auth and created by Ironhead Studios and Bill Hargates Costumes, follows the evolution of supersuits in executive producer Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse, which has seen redesigns of both the Arrow and Flash suits in recent years.
“We’re beyond excited to update Supergirl’s iconic suit, said Supergirl executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner. “We think her new image is strong and powerful. We hope the fans are as excited about it as we are.”
