Gangsters, a Chinese dissident and a female truck driver are among the subjects of eight upcoming features that were pitched at the Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea on Monday (May 2).
Eight titles were pitched in-person to an international jury as part of the Jeonju Cinema Project: Next Edition programme, which supports the production of innovative and independent films. The 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival announced the Jeonju lab selection and the projects of the Jeonju Cinema Project: Next Edition (hereinafter Next Edition). The Jeonju lab is to provide the participants with an opportunity to receive a mentoring program at the development stage for their film and video projects, while the Next Edition is a pitching program to support domestic and international feature projects.
For 60 days from November 15, 2021, to January 13, 2022, the Jeonju Iff received 41 submissions (17 domestic and 24 international projects) from 23 countries of 6 continents for the Jeonju Cinema Project: Next Edition. Sundance Institute’s Documentary Film Program has set its latest cohort of 20 films receiving Documentary Fund Grants, doling out a total of $600,000 in unrestricted support to projects in varying stages of production and distribution, including eight in development, eight in production, three in post-production, and one in post-production and impact.

The U.K.’s Sheffield Doc/Fest has announced 55 projects for pitching forum MeetMarket and 22 projects for the Arts Talent Market.
The events run in parallel June 9-11 as part of the wider festival, which runs June 4-13. The MeetMarket will see projects presented to industry partners and consisting of a mix of emerging talent and experienced filmmakers. The emerging talents include Agustina Comedi, Cassie Quarless, Cyril Aris, Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich, Tom Fassaert and Usayd Younis. Galt was a sick kid since the birth, and his father Badam, after listening to the advice of a warlock, sends him to grow up with his uncle. However, as the movie begins, the uncle dies and the pre teen boy returns to his estrange family. Initially he struggles to adapt, despite the efforts of his brother Tomor and father. However, as Badam is preparing his herd of horse for the Naadam race, a famous competition that takes place in the area, a yellow colt that seems lost enters his herd, and Galt takes an immediate liking to it, identifying with its fate.
