Like many who live in Melbourne, Mitchell Hope is using the lockdown to broaden his skill set.
The young actor, known for his roles in Disney’s Descendents franchise and Let it Snow, has felt the full force of the city’s battle with the virus, having returned to his hometown in February of last year following seven years of dividing his time between Australia and the US.
However, instead of baking banana bread or cultivating a green thumb, he told If he had spent the time indoors furthering his knowledge of filmmaking.
“The pandemic has been terrible, but I’ve started doing something I’ve always wanted to do, which is to write my own work and produce my own films.”
Prior to Covid-19, Hope was in southern Sydney to shoot Eric C. Nash’s Love You Like That, which will become the first new local release since theatres...

Few horror movie killers can rank among the top tier slaughter stars we've all come to love, but damn it, they try. Well, guess what, kids? Another is on his way, and one thing is certain: He has the girth to muscle in!
From the Charlie's Farm Facebook page:
Since the 1970's the world has been seen the rise of some of the most iconic killers, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Thomas Hewitt (Leatherface). Australia has had its fair share of Amazing horror films from Patrick, Lake Mungo, Snow Town, Razorback, The Loved Ones, and of course the legend himself "Greg McLean" with Wolf Creek and now Wolf Creek 2 to name only a few.
The problem is Australia has never had a killer with the status of the American killers; Voorhees has had over 160 kills in his career and is hands down one of the most feared killers on the planet.

The 13th annual Melbourne Underground Film Festival, held back on Aug. 24 to Sept. 1, shined an especially bright spotlight on New Irish Low Budget Cinema, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the fest gave its top awards to a film from the land of Éire.
Terry McMahon’s crime thriller Charlie Casanova won for Best Film and Best Director, and star Emmet Scanlon tied for Best Actor with Shiver‘s John Jarrat.
Despite all the love given to Ireland, this year’s Muff didn’t ignore its home countrymen, either. Local filmmaker Chris Sun’s latest, Daddy’s Little Girl, also took home multiple awards, including Best SFX, Best Actress for Allira Jacques and tied for the Special Jury Prize with Donna McRae’s Johnny Ghost.
Also, as usual, Muff gave out a wide variety of awards to multiple films. Some of the other winners include Daryl Stoneage...
