After his years-long litany of protestations against Donald Trump, Oscar-winner Robert De Niro tried to be more measured, but even more urgent, in his criticism of the former president this week. In an interview with Stephanie Ruhle on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour, the actor said, “I’m tired of calling him names…He is really, genuinely a sick person.”
Asked by Ruhle if he would ever play Trump onscreen, De Niro nearly cut off the question he was so quick to answer, “Never. There’s nothing about him — there’s not one redeeming thing in him that I can see.”
To those who would hold their noses and vote for Trump despite obvious failings, the actor said, “I...

Robert De Niro‘s team is shutting down a rumor that he recently shouted at pro-Palestinian protestors that are taking a stand amid the country’s conflict with Israel.
This week, a video of the 80-year-old actor yelling amid a crowd went viral.
In it, he was heard saying, “This is not a movie, this is real! That’s dangerous and they say they’re going to do it again! Again! You don’t want that. None of us want that. C’mon. Let’s all get serious.”
Some reported that the clip was real. It was taken as a show of support for Israel by some online.
His team revealed the truth about what was happening.

Michael Cimino's "The Deer Hunter" is a scalding experience. Over three hours, we get to know a group of Western Pennsylvania steelworkers who are plucked from their blue-collar town and thrust into the confounding hell of the Vietnam War. These are not complicated men. Left to their own devices, they'd put in their 40 hours a week, and spend their free time either throwing back beers at their local bar or tracking deer in the Appalachian Mountains.
Cimino lets us get comfortable with his characters in their natural habitat, so that, when they're captured by Viet Cong soldiers, and, among other tortures, forced to play Russian roulette for the gambling pleasure of their captors, we share their bewilderment and outright terror. This is where "The Deer Hunter" also becomes a problematic experience. Though the Viet Cong unquestionably abused prisoners of war, there is no substantial evidence that they forced American soldiers to play Russian roulette.

De Niro agreed because he was a Python fan, Gilliam cast his daughter but she cut her hair off in protest – and Pryce needed a wig as he’d just been playing a friar with a tonsure
I had this vision of a radio playing exotic music on a beach covered in coal dust, inspired by a visit to the steel town of Port Talbot. Originally the song I had in mind was Ry Cooder’s Maria Elena, but later I changed it to Aquarela do Brasil by Ary Barroso. The idea of someone in an ugly, despairing place dreaming of something hopeful led to Sam Lowry, trapped in his bureaucratic world, escaping into fantasy.

The 2023 Tribeca Festival has revealed its opening and closing night and centerpiece selections, as well as more gala events.
The festival will kick off on Wednesday, June 7, with the North American premiere of the documentary Kiss the Future, which follows underground musicians and creatives through the siege of Sarajevo and the 1997 U2 concert celebrating the liberation of the Bosnian capital. The movie is produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Sarah Anthony.
“We are grateful to the people of Sarajevo and to U2 for giving us the opportunity to help tell this special story,” Damon said in a statement. “Though this event happened almost 30 years ago, we feel it has strong relevance to today’s world, serving as a powerful reminder that human creativity can provide a powerful antidote to even the most horrific of situations.”

None other than Leonardo DiCaprio showed up for Martin Scorsese during a special luncheon conversation at CinemaCon honoring the famed filmmaker. Both received standing ovations.
Scorsese is in Vegas to promote Killers of the Flower Moon, from Apple Original Studios and starring DiCaprio opposite Lily Gladstone and Robert DeNiro. Both DiCaprio and De Niro are Scorsese’s go-to actors and each starred in many of his films.
Apple Studios, which made Killers of the Flower Moon, is partnering with Paramount in order to give the film an exclusive theatrical release in theaters around the globe in October following its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month. Coming our way from Apple and Paramount, director Martin Scorsese‘s new film Killers of the Flower Moon will be making its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month before moving on to a limited theatrical release on October 6th, which will become a wide theatrical release on October 20th. But before the movie makes its way out into the world, Scorsese stopped by the CinemaCon convention to give attendees the first look at a teaser trailer.
JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray is at CinemaCon, and sent in the following report: “Martin Scorsese in the house! He presented the teaser trailer for Killers of the Flower Moon. Despite being originally made for Apple, he designed the film for theatres. This is his sixth movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and his tenth with Robert De Niro, but it’s the first with them together.

“This is a big screen movie and that’s what we made, as you’ll see.”
Martin Scorsese came on stage during Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation on Thursday to introduce the first-ever look at Paramount Pictures and Apple Original Films’ Killers Of The Flower Moon with the official trailer.
The three-and-a-half hour 1920s-set crime epic was suitably epic in scale and follows the true-life investigation into serial murders of Osage Nation members in Oklahoma that led to the birth of the FBI.
The footage was gritty, violent and featured grand sets. DiCaprio and De Niro play opportunists who want to exploit the oil-wealthy Osage people.

Martin Scorsese hit Vegas on Thursday. No, he wasn’t there to revisit the Sin City locale of “Casino,” one of his mob masterpieces. He traveled to the gambling Mecca bearing his latest opus, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” a labyrinthine story of murder and greed that, if he plays his cards right, might be one of this year’s major awards contenders.
The “greatest living director” shared the first trailer for the film at CinemaCon, the annual conference of theater owners that’s been taking place this week. Based on David Grann’s bestselling book, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a true story, one that pulls back the curtain on a series of murders of wealthy Osage people that took place in the early 1920s after major oil deposits were discovered on their land. It also looks at how the newly formed FBI investigated the killings.

“This is a big screen movie, and that’s what we made,” said Scorsese of the film. “I could only have made this picture with collaborators who are remarkable and who are totally dedicated to bring this story to like on an epic scale. I needed actors brave enough to play complicated characters.”

For decades, Martin Scorsese has been one of the most desired directors that nearly every actor wants to work with. But it’s not easy to land a Scorsese production, especially if you’re not even on his radar, as was the case with Ray Romano, despite having one of the most successful sitcoms of its time.
On a recent episode of the podcast Wtf with Marc Maron, Romano recalled auditioning for Scorsese on HBO’s Vinyl, the short-lived series that circles the New York music scene of the 1970s. “Scorsese did the pilot and I had to go on tape for him. The cool thing was, I went on tape and the response we got back was, ‘Yeah, Marty likes it. He’s in the running. And Marty wants to know who he is. He’s never seen him…And my agent was like, ‘So he’s never seen the show?...

This post contains spoilers for season 1 of "Perry Mason"
For a long time, John Lithgow had a rule about not doing episodic TV. Before he accepted what is arguably his most memorable role to date — Dick Solomon in "3rd Rock from the Sun" — the two-time Oscar nominee was committed to film and stage work. But since he found major success with his '90s sitcom he's been showing up in all manner of projects, and in the age of prestige TV, Lithgow is cropping up all over the small screen. From "Dexter" to "The Crown," the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art grad has now fully embraced TV, and for a brief moment, blessed the grim, pulpy first season of HBO's "Perry Mason."

Ghosted is an over-caffeinated action comedy romance that tries too hard to be too many things, starting out as a sweet budding rom-com before drastically morphing into a violent international spy-chase movie anchored by a constantly bickering couple. This is one of those Hollywood movies that rarely slows down to breathe, throwing everything at the wall and just hoping some of it sticks.

Beloved by moviegoers for decades, the mafia film genre typically centers around key players that make up the world of organized crime in various contexts, locations, and cultures, with a sprinkle of family life and a generous serving of violence included in the storylines. The genre traces back to the early beginnings of film, but was popularized by directors like Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese in the 1970s and beyond.
Over the years, the mafia genre has continued to defy stereotypes and include elements from different film genres, like suspense or comedy. The latest mafia-related film, "Mafia Mamma," which hit theaters on April 14, presents a traditional look at the Italian mafia, with a refreshing, comedic tone delivered by Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci. There are a great many people out there who like to say that “The Godfather Part II” is superior to “The Godfather.” Al Pacino is not one of them. The 82-year-old actor went uptown to the 92nd St. Y on Wednesday to sit for an hour-long schmooze as part of their “People Who Inspire Us” series. During the conversation, he dished on a number of subjects, including the movie that sent his career into orbit.
“You see, ‘The Godfather’ is more entertaining,” he said. “‘Godfather II’ is this study, this personal thing for Francis [Ford Coppola]. ‘Godfather I,’ I saw it recently, it’s always got two or three things going on in a scene. You’re always in the story, you’re going. You don’t know what’s going to happen next, it’s storytelling, it’s really storytelling at its best. ‘Godfather II’ sort of linearizes, and [it’s] kind of different,...

Well, apparently not everyone knows Raymond.
“Everybody Loves Raymond” sitcom star Ray Romano revealed that Oscar winner Martin Scorsese was completely oblivious to the actor’s TV fame before casting him in short-lived HBO series “Vinyl.”
“Scorsese did the pilot and I had to go on tape for him. The cool thing was, I went on tape and the response we got back was, ‘Yeah, Marty likes it. He’s in the running. And Marty wants to know who he is. He’s never seen him,'” Romano said during Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast. “And my agent was like, ‘So he’s never seen the show?’ And they go, ‘No, no, no, he doesn’t know who the guy is,’ which was a blessing because he didn’t have to erase the sitcom character from his mind.”
Romano continued, “I can buy that, that Martin Scorsese doesn’t watch television.

Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" finally has a release date. The long-awaited true-crime film is heading to theaters this October before it eventually starts streaming on Apple TV+, and we already know how long it'll be.
"Killers of the Flower Moon" - which boasts a sprawling cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, newly minted Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, and Jesse Plemons - is based on the bestselling nonfiction book of the same name written by David Grann. It tells a story set in 1920s Oklahoma when members of the Osage Nation were targeted and murdered by a serial killer, seemingly because of the Nation's ties to oil. The string of crimes became known as the Reign of Terror. Grann's book tells the story of how the modern FBI came out of the investigation into those murders.

Get ready for quite a ride.
The official running time of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon is three hours and 26 minutes, insiders confirm. From Apple Original Films, the Western crime drama, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone, is one of the longest Hollywood movies in modern times, according to data from Comscore.
Scorsese’s last film The Irishman was actually three minutes longer (three hours and 29 minutes), but the 2019 Netflix movie didn’t get a full-blown theatrical release since it was primarily made for the streaming service.
Killers of the Flower Moon is a different proposition. Apple is partnering with Paramount in order to give Scorsese’s high-profile film a traditional run in cinemas across the globe before making it available at a yet-to-be-announced date on Apple TV+. Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” has a running time of three hours and 26 minutes, or 206 minutes in total, Deadline confirmed on Tuesday. That makes Scorsese’s Apple drama the second-longest movie of his entire career, three minutes shorter than his last feature outing, “The Irishman.”
Speculation about the length of “Killers of the Flower Moon” has hit overdrive in recent days; in some places, it was suggested that Scorsese’s film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro could even top four hours. At the very least, there was an expectation that “Killers of the Flower Moon” could be 225 minutes, which a reporter for Variety said during an interview with Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux. “I don’t know what the final length is, but let’s say that for me it’s not an issue,” Fremaux said about “Killers of the Flower Moon” potentially running for three hours and 45 minutes.

Exclusive: Martin Scorsese has locked his cut of Killers of the Flower Moon, and Deadline can reveal that the final run time will be 3 hours, 26 minutes. The Apple Original Films drama will make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, before it opens theatrically in October through Paramount Pictures and later moves to streaming globally on Apple TV+.
There has been much guessing about the film’s length, with wild guesses speculating it could be four hours. That is simply not the case. Adapted the David Grann book and pairing Scorsese’s two favorite actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, Killers has plenty of true crime story to fill up that time.

In a rare new interview while promoting his performance in Zach Braff’s “A Good Person,” Morgan Freeman told The Sunday Times that he’s insulted by Black History Month and the term “African American.”
“Two things I can say publicly that I do not like,” Freeman said. “Black History Month is an insult. You’re going to relegate my history to a month?”
“Also, ‘African American’ is an insult,” he added. “I don’t subscribe to that title. Black people have had different titles all the way back to the n-word and I do not know how these things get such a grip, but everyone uses ‘African American’. What does it really mean? Most Black people in this part of the world are mongrels. And you say Africa as if it’s a country when it’s a continent, like Europe.”

Rarely does a piece of art serve as the inspiration for a film’s location. But, this was the case with the beach house that Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley called home in the 1995 action classic Heat. Director Michael Mann hired renowned film scout Lori Balton to find a house that resembled Alex Colville’s painting “Pacific.”
“Pacific” depicts a man staring at the ocean through a huge picture window while a rifle sits on a table behind him. And Balton did not disappoint. After searching the entire Southern California coast, the house she finally settled on was a perfect match for Colville’s painting. And now, for fans of the crime thriller, owning a piece of cinematic history is within reach. As it turns out, McCauley’s iconic home is up for sale for a cool $21 million.

“He told me, ‘I may be going to Cuba soon. If I do, I’ll say hello to your family,'” she said. “He even asked me for their phone number.”
The Blonde star said she actually completely forgot to give the GoodFellas actor the number, but “then one day, out of the blue, I get a phone call from my dad.”

Most actors understand the harsh reality that it can be difficult to break typecasting once they become known. That issue doesn't just crop up with the general public and casting directors either — sometimes it's the filmmakers an actor has already worked with who have a hard time seeing them as anything but the role they've played previously.
That's exactly the issue Harrison Ford was facing when his "American Graffiti" director, George Lucas, began casting a weird space fantasy movie called "Star Wars." Although Ford had appeared in Lucas' previous movie and had built a respectable enough resumé by 1975, appearing in films and television since the late '60s, he was neither a star nor a proven leading man at the time.
This is likely why Lucas initially employed Ford as a reader during the "Star Wars" auditions, using him to play various roles with the other actors as they auditioned.

The epic running time of Martin Scorsese’s new film Killers of the Flower Moon has been revealed.
Scorsese’s forthcoming movie is based on David Grann’s best-selling book of the same name, and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons.
The story explores an FBI investigation into a string of murders that plagued the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma during the Twenties, after oil was found on their land.
According to Variety, the film, wich is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, will break records to become Scorsese’s longest film as well as DiCaprio’s.
While Scorsese’s previous film, The Irishman, clocked in at three-and-a-half hours, it’s being reported that Killers of the Flower Moon will hit the four-hour mark.
The claim follows the announcement that the Apple TV Plus project, which cost $200m, will be released in October.

When Martin Scorsese was just 11 years old, he storyboarded a cinematic epic named “The Eternal City,” which he described as “a fictitious story of Royalty in Ancient Rome.” It was envisioned to film in 75mm CinemaScope and star Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, Virginia Mayo, and Alec Guinness. This remains a fascinating, ambitious artifact that’s been shared far and wide online. But perhaps just as interesting are the storyboards critic Richard Blake describes in his book After Image: The Indelible Catholic Imagination of Six American Filmmakers. According to Blake, Scorsese, aged 10, drew even earlier the Stations of the Cross: images of Jesus Christ’s final days and moments before death.
Many years later, Scorsese would at last film his version of those events in The Last Temptation of Christ, and the result was one of the most controversial films of all time.
Christianity has a deep and enduring impact on Scorsese’s work.

“Method acting” long ago lost its meaning.
Instead, it’s become a catchall to describe an intense commitment to getting it right on stage or screen. It’s an all-out approach that sees performers pack and shed pounds, feast on live cockroaches or raw bison, extract teeth or eschew showers, and remain in character between takes. Those are just a few examples of the extremes to which Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, Nicolas Cage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Shia Labeouf, Charlize Theron, Daniel Day-Lewis and their ilk push themselves in the service of their art. For their suffering, they receive Oscars and Emmys, along with a ton of media coverage — just look at the scores of pieces documenting the gonzo things Jared Leto has done each time one of his movies get released.
The payoff can be electrifying performances that blur the lines between character and actor. But it’s an approach...

Warner Bros. has made several changes to its release slate, include setting a date for its upcoming film adaptation of “Minecraft” and a small holiday swap between “The Color Purple” and DC’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
“Aquaman 2,” which was previously set for Christmas Day, will now be released on Wednesday, Dec. 20 while “The Color Purple” takes the spot on Christmas Day, which this year falls on a Monday.
The move will give the DC blockbuster extra time in the days leading up to Christmas weekend to build up word-of-mouth and potentially leg out through the holiday season. The first “Aquaman” did this to great success in December 2018, turning a $67.8 million domestic opening weekend into a $335 million domestic total and $1.14 billion worldwide.

Last month, we shared the news that Robert De Niro had signed on to star in a TV series for the first time in his career, as he’ll be starring in and executive producing the six-episode limited series Zero Day for Netflix. Now Deadline reports that De Niro has signed on for another series. He’ll be starring in the crime drama Bobby Meritorious for the Paramount+ streaming service, which is also home to the Sylvester Stallone crime drama series Tulsa King.
Billy Ray, whose credits include Richard Jewell, Terminator: Dark Fate, Captain Phillips, and The Hunger Games, is writing Bobby Meritorious, telling a story that is set amongst the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, which is a sovereign kingdom with seemingly unlimited power and scope. But now an informant in Sdny’s biggest case, Avery “The Sage” Accomando is poised to tear this storied institution apart.

Robert De Niro is adding another TV project to his plate.
The Oscar winner is attached to star in and executive produce a Paramount+ drama titled Bobby Meritorious, from writer Billy Ray (The Comey Rule, Captain Phillips) and Paramount Television Studios. The streamer outbid several other outlets for the project from its corporate sibling and has committed to develop it.
Should it go forward, the Paramount+ show would be De Niro’s second leading role in a TV series. He’s also starring in Netflix’s six-episode thriller Zero Day, from Narcos EP Eric Newman.

When Avery “The Sage” Accomando (De Niro), an informant in the office’s biggest case, is poised to tear this storied institution apart, only one man can stop him: a fabled ex-cop turned prosecutor known as Bobby Meritorious.

Michael Mann has a great script, and Warner Bros. has its head all the way up it.
Deadline has reported that a deal is close for a follow-up to Mann’s 1995 sleek L.A. cops-and-robbers epic, “Heat.” The project is based on the novel “Heat 2” that he and Meg Gardiner published last summer. Moreover, it looks like Adam Driver is in talks to play the criminal mastermind Neil McCauley, who was played by Robert De Niro nearly 30 years ago. The “Marriage Story” and “Star Wars” actor is, indeed, about a decade younger than De Niro was at the time, but “Heat 2,” following the path of the book, is both a prequel and a sequel. The novel was a number one New York Times bestseller.
While Driver is the only “firm attachment” for the not-quite-greenlit project, as per the trade outlet, word is that Ana De Armas is rumored to play...
