Carlos Alcaraz will face Daniel Evans at the 2023 Shanghai Masters in a match that promises to be a very interesting one.
Alcaraz has been playing spectacular tennis since touching down in China, and yet it's yielded nothing more than a semi-final last week in Beijing. He simply ran into a very inspired Jannik Sinner, who played even better than him .
Dan Evans has been in China for a while, but he only got a win relatively recently. Chengdu was a loss to Roman Safiullin, a player who went to the final that week . Beijing was a loss to Jannik Sinner, the eventual champion, and now he's going to face Carlos Alcaraz after advancing past Mikhail Kukushkin.
If Alcaraz wins, does that mean he'll go to the final? We don't know, but we do know that he needs to beat Evans to get there.
Head-to-head:
So far, that hasn't been the problem for the Spaniard,...

Jannik Sinner 's first trip to China is going to be an unforgettable experience, and possibly not because of his tennis.
Sinner, who admitted before the start of the tournament that he fell sick on arrival, has done a commendable job of navigating his way into a semifinal showdown against the top seed Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday. But the ill effects of whatever Sinner has been living through in the past few days have caught up with him.
Sinner was captured vomiting into a trash can midway through the third set of his quarterfinal match against Grigor Dimitrov. Sinner was noticeably unwell during his first-round win over Dan Evans. But he looked in fine fettle when he swept aside Yoshihito Nishioka 6-2, 6-0.
But the physical nature of the match against Dimitrov which went the distance appeared to take its toll on the young Italian who ended up puking, supposedly...

Carlos Alcaraz dropped his first set at this year's US Open , but the Spaniard was not too fussed about it as he never looked in danger of losing the match.
Alcaraz faced the sternest test of his title defense thus far when he took on Washington champion Dan Evans in the third round. The British one-hander's varied game and court craft were expected to pose a major challenger to the energetic young Spaniard.
Alcaraz made a dominant start to the match, breaking Evans twice and bagging the first set 6-2. He extended his lead further, with three more breaks in the second set which he wrapped up in 49 minutes. Despite his measured aggression being on display, Evans' ability to neutralize power with an elegant one-hander unsettled the top seed.
Eventually, the man from Birmingham was rewarded in the third set when he became the first player in the championships to...

Carlos Alcaraz has a toolbox of shots but sometimes it can be difficult on which one to choose, something he struggles with to this day.
The 20-year-old Spaniard has been a sensation on the main tour. On his Atp debut back in 2020, 16-year-old Alcaraz gave tennis fans a glimpse of his talent at the Rio Open. At first glance, he embodies the spirit of high-intensity tennis that has defined his fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal's legacy at the top level.
But a deep dive into watching him at full flight you can't help but conclude he's got the full package. You always temper such amplified conclusions with caution, however, Alcaraz is far from a finished article, and he's got so much upside, that he'll naturally improve.
Alcaraz's all-round game has drawn seismic comparisons to all the Big 3 . Apart from his exceptional battling qualities, he's got wonderful reach off either flank,...

Carlos Alcaraz had no issues against Daniel Evans in the past, and that was the case also at the 2023 US Open .
Alcaraz is blazing through the US Open draw , which isn't a huge surprise. E mulating Nadal's sleeveless outfi t , Alcaraz wants to do what Nadal did back in 2019 - win the event. He won it last year, so he knows how to do it, but this year features Novak Djokovic in the draw.
That wasn't the case last year, and it makes all the difference. We saw the Serbian beat Alcaraz recently in Cincinnati , so he could clearly do it again. In any case, both have still a few matches to go before we get that one.
One of those was this one against Dan Evans, and it went pretty smoothly. The Spaniard opened the match with an early break and then added another 4-0. He pulled back...

Carlos Alcaraz is marching on at the 2023 US Open , and his next opponent is Daniel Evans , a tricky maze to navigate, so let's see how the Spaniard might do.
Navigating mazes almost comes naturally to Spaniards as their sea-fearing exploits are well known. Alcaraz is honouring that conquistador's legacy with his own exploits, though they are reserved for the tennis court.
Dan Evans comes from a country known for its own exploits, though his career has not yielded the kind of treasures Alcaraz's had so far this year. Their matchup in New York will see one advance to the 4th round, so let's see what might happen.
Head-to-head:
We've seen them contest two matches on the Atp Tour, with Alcaraz winning both. The first one happened in Vienna in 2021, and Alcaraz won it in two sets 6-4 6-3. Nothing spectacular, but the second win was a bit more impressive. It...

Grigor Dimitrov lowkey put together a really impressive season so far, however, it won't extend in Canada as he withdrew from the Canadian Open in Toronto.
It was a rather sudden withdrawal from Dimitrov, who was in action just last week in Washington. The Bulgarian played a really solid week of tennis in the US capital, making his way to the semi-final, where he was beaten by Dan Evans.
Evans won the event in the end so it's not a terrible loss but it seems like he paid the price for his good play - an injury. According to reports, Dimitrov pulled out of the Canadian Open due to a back injury that has plagued him in the past.
There are only a few explanations here. Either it bothered him already in Washington, and it got worse so he's protecting his US Open or it's a completely new injury which would be even worse.
