Bengaluru, April 3 (Ians) Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach Shane Bond lauded Mohammed Siraj for his exceptional bowling in the opening spell, stating that Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) pacer used his bouncer to great effect, forcing Mi batters to take shots that ultimately resulted in wickets.
Siraj finished with figures of 1-21 in his four overs, with a crucial wickets of opener Ishan Kishan, who gave Mi a nice start.
He got the early breakthrough for Rcb as he had Kishan caught at third man in the third over. He had bowled a tight first over, giving away just two runs.
He could have had the big wicket of Rohit Sharma inside the powerplay as the Mi captain top-edged a pull but a miscommunication between Siraj and Dinesh Karthik led to a collision and the ball fell in between them.

Bengaluru, April 3 (Ians) While praising young left-handed batter Tilak Varma for his unbeaten 84 off just 46 balls, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma admitted that rest of the batting line-up didn’t bat very well on a pitch which was good to bat upon.
Pushed into batting first, Mumbai crumbled to 48/4 and then to 123/7 at one stage, looking in danger of being shot out for a below-par total. But Varma stood tall and impressed everyone with his skill and temperament in hitting nine boundaries and four sixes at a strike-rate of 182.6, as Mumbai got 69 runs from the last five overs.
“Didn’t have a great start but was a good effort from Tilak at the end. But the bowlers didn’t bowl well. We didn’t bat well enough, it was a good pitch. Some of the shorts he played today, he showed a lot of courage.

Dubai, Sep 5 (Ians) In Pakistan’s thrilling five-wicket win over India in Super Four match of Asia Cup 2022, where fortunes swung wildly, left-arm spin all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz played a decisive role in getting his side to victory.
With his four overs, Nawaz conceded just 25 runs and took out Suryakumar Yadav in a tight spell which applied brakes on India’s innings after Rohit Sharma and Kl Rahul came out all guns blazing in a 54-run opening stand.
Then in chasing 182, Nawaz was given a promotion to number four. He rose to the occasion by striking 42 off 20 balls, including six fours and two sixes, giving a much-needed impetus to Pakistan’s successful chase with a ball to spare.
After the match ended, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam revealed Nawaz’s promotion happened as he felt a left-handed batter could succeed against India’s leg-spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi.
“I try to keep things simple.

Dubai, Sep 5 (Ians) India skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that losing wickets of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya in quick succession was something that was not needed for the side at that juncture of the match.

Virat Kohli top-scored for India with 60 off 44 balls, hitting four fours and a six while running hard between the wickets and was superb against pacers.

Dubai, Sep 4 (Ians) Virat Kohli slammed his second consecutive fifty in as many matches as India posted a competitive 181/7 against Pakistan in the second Super Four match of Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
Pushed into batting first, Kohli top-scored with 60 off 44 balls, hitting four fours and a six, while running hard between the wickets and was superb against pacers in an innings where India reverted back to its aggressive attacking approach.
Kohli’s knock came after the opening pair of captain Rohit Sharma and K.L Rahul came out all guns blazing in a 54-run opening stand. For Pakistan, spinners Mohammad Nawaz (1-25) and Shadab Khan (2-31) bowled eight overs between themselves and conceded just 56 runs. Pacers Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf had a wicket apiece.

Dubai, Sep 4 (Ians) Pakistan captain Babar Azam has won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the second Super Four match of Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
India have brought in Hardik Pandya (rested from the previous match against Hong Kong), Deepak Hooda and Ravi Bishnoi in their playing eleven in place of injured Ravindra Jadeja (out of the tournament due to right knee injury), Dinesh Karthik and Avesh Khan, meaning Rishabh Pant will keep wickets.
Pakistan, on the other hand, got in pacer Mohammad Hasnain in their playing eleven, replacing fellow fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani, who is out due to a suspected side strain.
“The dew could be a factor, that’s the reason we’re bowling first. We had a lot of positives from the last match against India. The message is to play positively,” said Azam after winning the toss.

Dubai, Sep 3 (Ians) Star batter Kl Rahul might have not scored big runs in the ongoing Asia Cup but former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels the opener’s knock will be a key for India’s chances of winning the match against Pakistan on Sunday.
India and Pakistan will meet for the second time on Sunday in the ongoing Asia Cup in the Super Four stage. India defeated Pakistan on August 28 when the two sides met for their respective opening game in the Asia Cup.
Opening batter Kl Rahul who is coming after an injury has not been able to live up to expectations. In the match against Pakistan, he scored a golden duck and played a sluggish knock against Hong Kong.

Dubai, Sep 2 (Ians) The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named left-arm spinner-all-rounder Axar Patel as a like-for-like replacement for injured all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for the rest of India’s campaign in the ongoing Asia Cup in the UAE.
Jadeja had played in India’s both Group A matches against Pakistan and Hong Kong in Dubai. Against Pakistan, after 0/11 with two overs of left-arm spin, he was promoted to batting at number four and made a crucial 35 off 29 balls and shared a 52-run stand with Hardik Pandya (33 not out off 17 balls) to see India home in a chase of 148.
Though Jadeja didn’t get to bat against Hong Kong, he had outstanding figures of 1/15 in his four overs at an economy rate of 3.75, effectively applying brakes on the scoring rate in defence of 192.

The conventional mode of cricket played in the very early days was played very much like T20. The batter was there to hit the ball if possible on every delivery. This was seen as the best way to show strength, courage and skill. Village cricket was an ideal setting to display ones capabilities and hitting the ball out of the park was a true exhibition of brilliance.
Education and good sense gradually played its part and batters learnt that the ideal combination of defence mixed with offence is a far better option than the mad hitting style of yore.
Cricket then took a completely different path, wherein, to be consistent and good one had to cautiously overcome the initial unknown variables such as the conditions relating to the pitch, the bounce, movement due to the atmosphere and the conditions prevalent. Respecting and understanding the bowlers’ variations was an added concern to master.
