John Hughes once explained why he loved stories about young people caught between childhood and adulthood. “One of the great wonders of that age is your emotions are so open and raw,” he said. “At that age it feels as good to feel bad as it does to feel good.”
The poet laureate of the coming-of-age film wasn’t wrong. These movies are built on some of the biggest feelings there are – first love! True friendship! Desperately trying to find a decent party and some booze! – and put you right back in the time when you felt everything so much, you thought you might actually burst. The arc is simple: a young person (or little gang of them) goes through some kind of quest or experience which opens their eyes to the world and shows them how innocent they were, and now never can be again. Come the credits, everyone...

Raw (Grave) is a horror and drama movie directed and written by Julia Ducournau magnificently starred by Garance Marillier who is given a life changing opportunity that does not go wasted.
Terror that is not suitable for all audiences in a movie that goes into the taboo of cannibalism.
Raw is the (already famous) movie directed in 2016 by Julia Ducournau. And, yes, it is about cannibalism, so if you are having a bad day… it is not a movie for you. However, the movie is not bad at all and it surprises us with a different focus and although at times it is sensationalistic and even morbid, it undertakes the narrative in a special, different way and with a blatant setting that matches the plot very well.

You can always count on horror to test boundaries, so it’s no surprise that the genre has long explored the taboo of cannibalism. Cannibals are most often associated with exploitation horror, leading to a cannibal horror boon in the ’70s and early ’80s, thanks to Italian horror filmmakers like Umberto Lenzi, Ruggero Deodato, and Joe D’Amato. But as the Video Nasty craze came and went and time evolved the genre, so did the depiction of cannibalism.
The ’90s brought horror’s most common depiction of cannibals out of the jungle and into society, largely thanks to The Silence of the Lambs’ Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins). The Academy Award-winning feature adapted Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel and introduced a supporting character so fascinating that he overshadowed the film’s actual antagonist, Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). Protagonist Clarice Starling gets assigned to interview the incarcerated cannibalistic serial killer in the hopes that Dr.

Fifteen years ago, the term “elevated” and “horror” rarely shared the same sentence, lest someone was talking about the setting of Snakes on a Plane; found footage was considered the spookiest new trend in terrifying audiences; and at least according to box office receipts, October signaled one thing: It was time for a new Saw movie.

From the bold filmmaker behind the provocative "Titane," Julia Ducournau's feature debut "Raw" uses visceral horror to examine adolescent yearning. The lurid film follows a young vegetarian named Justine (Garance Marillier) who attends veterinary school where she tastes meat for the first time and develops a craving for flesh — including human. After Justine is forced to eat raw rabbit kidneys as part of a hazing ritual to welcome new students, her newfound hunger becomes overpowering, and she finds herself making emergency trips to the gas station for meat and sneaking raw chicken in the early hours of the morning.

Cannes Palme d’Or winner “Titane” is coming to the U.S. on October 1.
Neon, who nabbed stateside acquisition rights to the Julia Ducournau film back in 2019, made the announcement Friday on Twitter.
The film stars Agathe Rousselle and Vincent Lindon and revolves around a woman who has sex with cars after growing up with a metal plate in her head from a car accident. The body-bending horror also features Garance Marillier, Laïs Salameh, Mara Cisse, Marin Judas, Diong-Kéba Tacu, Myriem Akheddiou, Bertrand Bonello and more.
Without a word of dialogue, the trailer for the movie flashes between harrowing scenes of a body transforming, fire spreading and people dancing.
Variety critic Peter Debruge called the film “lusty” and “dark,” writing that “Titane” is “a daringly queer and undoubtedly controversial ride, resulting in a most uncommon monster movie — a cross between David Cronenberg’s ‘Crash’ and the uterine horrors of Takashi Miike’s ‘Gozu,...

Titane A few days ago, on the eve of the fest, I wrote about how excited I was at the prospect of catching a number of films from directors who’d screened works in previous Cannes editions, but had only now found a spot in the official competition. Such was the case for Julia Ducournau, who’d first travelled to Cannes in 2016, when her cannibal coming-of-age thriller Raw nabbed the Fipresci award in the Critics Week. Watching her second feature, Titane, felt like treading into a familiar turf. The film features motifs Ducournau’s debut pivoted on, chiefly an interest in our bodily urges, in the fluidity and unpredictability of our desires. Much like Raw, it’s a gross-out peppered with stomach-churning moments, but one that swims between tenderness and brutality to complicate the distinction between humans and the objects we fetishize. It’s in that miraculous, unstable balance that...

Julia Ducournau landed in the 2016 edition of Critic’s Week section with her debut film Raw (she previously had shown her short Junior as well) and it quickly made ripples into waves – with a global reach that one would hope for. Her follow-up Titane which was acquired by Neon features an almost six pack version of Vincent Lindon and introduces first-time actress Agathe Rousselle in a mostly physical performance (not much dialogue with her character). We even have Raw‘s Garance Marillier in a memorable minor role. Marillier is also in her 2011 short.
Our Nicholas Bell calls this “bizarre, to say the least, sometimes off-putting and strangely enchanting, Titane is cold as chrome, hot as fire, securely nestling in the nexus of metal and flesh,” this is being championed by critics and there is some serious murmurs about this winning the Palme.…...

Neon has unveiled a promo teaser trailer for the the film Titane, the second feature film made by acclaimed French filmmaker Julia Ducournau following her horror hit Raw a few years ago. There is not much of a synopsis available yet, only that "Titane" means "A metal, highly resistant to heat and corrosion, with high tensile strength alloys often used in medical prostheses due to pronounced biocompatibility." There's clearly a lot of crazy things going on in this! It stars Agathe Rousselle and Vincent Lindon - seen prominently throughout this teaser. Along with Garance Marillier and Laïs Salameh. The French description also adds: "After a series of unexplained crimes, a father finds his son who has been missing for 10 years." Even without any idea what's going on in all this footage, I am very interested in this and all the intense moments in this trailer. Titane is premiering at the...

Fans ravenous for Julia Ducournau’s next film have something to tide them over thanks to a new limited edition of her jaw-dropping debut, Raw. The story of a veterinary school freshman, Justine, who gets forced into eating meat for the first time during a college hazing ritual, Raw became a Cannes sensation when it premiered and went on to stun audiences at a multitude of festivals, earning universal acclaim. The film presents a radical awakening in which carnal coming-of-age desires merge with cannibalistic cravings and sees the protagonist (Garance Marillier in a breakout performance) search for her own humanity and freedom as she battles external pressures that seek to control her and her body. While Raw has graphic, Cronenbergian horror pulsing through its veins, Ducournau’s...

The brilliant mind behind “Raw,” the most soulful cannibalistic body horror of recent memory, has been hard at work on her second film. Though plot details are being kept under wraps, powerhouse indie distributor Neon has acquired North American rights to “Titane,” the second feature film to be written and directed by Ducournau. The filmmaker burst onto the scene with the 2017 release of “Raw,” which won the coveted Fipresci prize for its debut at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival before hitting theaters. “Raw” grossed $3 million worldwide, an impressive feat for a small art-horror from a first-time filmmaker. “Raw” became one of the most talked about horror films of the year, as audiences went gaga for Ducournau’s provocative feminism and David Cronenberg-esque style.

What happens when people find a way to reverse the slow degeneration of aging? What happens when suddenly you can live past 100-years-old, past 150-years-old, or maybe forever? Television is taking over film festivals, and Tiff has been part of the trend since 2015. That’s when the Toronto International Film Festival first launched its Primetime program, and since then attendees have been treated to premieres like “Black Mirror,” “Casual,” “The Girlfriend Experience,” “The Deuce,” “Transparent,” and more.
In 2018, the TV slate includes big brand names and movie stars — including Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen — as well as a number of lesser known series looking to make their mark. Tiff has seen similar names in the past, but not all of the TV shows debuting at the festival made the impression their distributors, producers, and stars hoped when they landed on TV. Just like the buzziest films may not break the box office, the festival may not elevate TV enough in this peak TV era.

Risky and risqué, indie films have always been a home for bold, honest, and controversial visions of teens’ sexuality. Eliza Hittman’s “Beach Rats,” opening this week after bowing at Sundance in January, is another notch in the belt of the sub-genre, a sensitive and often shocking look inside the coming-of-age of a young Brooklyn teen.
Like the best of these films, it’s not all about hormones; it builds on questions about identity and desire. But that’s there too, in sensitively crafted scenes that don’t skimp on reality. Punctuated by some bad choices and an unnerving final act, “Beach Rats” embraces the full spectrum of teen sexuality, even when it’s not exactly alluring.

A vegetarian student craves human flesh in Julia Ducournau’s prize-winning Raw, The Sense of an Ending is a bloodless affair, and Huppert sings
Last year I was on a film festival jury that wound up, after several hours of finicky deliberation, giving our top prize to Julia Ducournau’s coming-of-cannibalistic-age nightmare Raw (Universal, 18). It was, to all of us, an unexpected vote of consensus for a film that seduces through repulsion. “What have we approved?” a fellow juror asked me with a grin as we delivered our verdict. Ducournau’s debut lands on screen like a live, throbbing heart plucked from its housing chest, wrapped in rose-coloured satin instead of butcher’s paper.
It doesn’t take long for a grisly grindhouse soul to emerge from its gleaming exterior. As the rituals of campus hazing take their dizzying toll on her, vegetarian veterinary student Justine (Garance Marillier) finds within...

To mark the release of Raw on 14th August, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on DVD.
