Manchester United held a moment of silence for the victims of the arena attack during practice Tuesday ... and have vowed to help emergency services "in any way that may be required." Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba and the rest of the club paused for a minute to honor the families and victims of the terrorist attack at the Ariana Grande concert Monday night. At least 22 people have been killed and 59 others were injured by the nail bomb attack.

4. Predicted Starting lineups
This is almost certainly how Arsenal will lineup for the clash, with the team practically picking itself. Their back four and goalkeeper are sure starters due to injuries to January signing Gabriel, who has been ruled out of the clash with a hamstring injury and Mathieu Debuchy, who is still on the road to recovery from a shoulder injury. Although it is doubtful they will start ahead of David Ospina and Kieran Gibbs, Wojciech Szczesny and Nacho Monreal face late fitness tests and could make the Arsenal bench.
Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby are all expected to miss out due to injury meaning Arsene Wenger’s only decision in midfield is whether to include Tomas Rosicky or not but it is more likely he will opt for the midfield threesome of Coquelin, Ramsey and Cazorla.

A knack that fans may have feared was lost since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 but Ashley Young’s goal this week has proven that United’s fighting spirit remains intact regardless of the manager in the hot seat. With the game seemingly set to end in a bore draw, Wayne Rooney harried the Magpie’s defence into a series of mistakes and Young finished tidily into the bottom corner to keep the Red Devils in the top four.
Although it’s true that last minute goals are a regular occurrence, more often than not United are the side punishing defences who relax and feel that the game is finished and the Red Devils haven’t been short of late winners or equalisers this season either. Two last gasp equalisers from Daley Blind against West Brom and West Ham reminded fans of Ferguson’s...

Louis Van Gaal has hit out at the media as a few journalists in attendance for United’s latest press conference suggested that there was friction between the Dutchman and his assistant due to Giggs’ underwhelming celebration in their last minute victory over Newcastle.
Ryan Giggs was certainly uncharacteristically still as his boss jumped for joy at Ashley Young’s 89th minute winner but Van Gaal seemed insulted some journalists could make such a big deal out of something so small.
Van Gaal reaction was to respond sarcastically in his attempt to expose the idiocy of the journalist’s suggestion.
“No. We have a very bad relationship. I cannot answer that. I want to have those rumours.
“I am very irritated at this question because everyone can see we have a very good relationship.

United Starting XI
It was just the one change from the side that defeated Sunderland 2-0 at the weekend, Wayne Rooney who bagged a brace against Gus Poyet’s men was selected as a lone striker to the pleasure United fans. This meant Falcao dropping to the bench, paving the way for Marouane Fellaini to return to the starting XI playing in the position of ‘shadow striker’ just behind Rooney.
Although the Belgian midfielder may suggest that his best position is as a ball winning midfielder in the centre of the park, most will agree that due to his aerial prowess he is much more effective further up the field causing havoc as he did so well for Everton a few seasons ago.
United maintained the same basic shape that achieved success at home to Sunderland and although it must be noted that a formation is...

Newcastle United had held firm for 89 minutes at St James’ Park – their backline looked solid and, although they had been far-from spectacular, the home side were heading towards a well-deserved and hard-fought point against Manchester United in the Premier League.
Then, in a calamitous defensive moment that will appear on every single blooper reel for the 2014/15 Premier League season, the Magpies allowed Ashley Young to break the deadlock and give Louis van Gaal’s men a valuable three points as the Red Devils continue in their push for a top-four finish.
A quick throw-in – which arguably should have gone Newcastle’s way – was not defended properly by the home side and, with Wayne Rooney breathing down his neck, Mehdi Abeid played a dangerous pass back to Tim Krul, who panicked and fired it straight to Young, who was lurking inside the area. The summer transfer window has slammed shut and Manchester United now have to lie in the bed they’ve made. United spent over £150 million on new players in the market that has just closed as manager Louis van Gaal desperately attempts to slam the breaks on their worrying slide in form.
There will be no further opportunity to strengthen his ailing side until January and when the Premier League resumes after the international break we will see just how successful his summer signings are. Six new players have come in – Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao – but some fans still feel the real problem areas of central defence and midfield have gone unaddressed.
United’s defence does indeed look brittle despite van Gaal having repeated opportunities to bring in reinforcements while question marks still hang over...

Manchester United last night agreed to a British transfer record breaking £59.7 million deal to sign Angel di Maria from Real Madrid. The move makes Di Maria the costliest player in English history, dwarfing the £50 million Chelsea splashed out on Fernando Torres back in 2011, and the £37 million United paid for Juan Mata in January – their previous highest outlay on a player.
Di Maria scored four goals last season – the same amount Nani, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Wilfried Zaha managed between them in 2013-14 – while he also provided 17 assists, more than any other player managed in La Liga. His arrival at Old Trafford will instantly transform a laborious midfield short on creativity, but is he worth the near-£60 million fee being quoted?

The second half has all been about Manchester United, with Wayne Rooney scoring a close range bicycle kick to bring the sides level, but now Swansea’s new signing Gylfi Sigurdsson has shown exactly why he is worth £10m to the Swans by scoring to put his side back in front.
As Van Gaal stared on with a blank expression, the Icelandic attacking midfielder – who was under-used at Spurs unfairly – slotted the ball home with the side of his foot after some good work by both Montero and Wayne Routledge.
It was very much a case of bad defending – and further proof that the side’s defensive options need to be seriously strengthened if United are going to compete for a top four berth. Chris Smalling completely switched off before the free-kick, and then Ashley Young – in at left-back after the change of...

With Javier Hernandez leaving the pitch at half time to be replaced by Portuguese winger Nani, Louis Van Gaal has done the unthinkable and abandoned his 3-5-2 formation that he spent pre-season building for a 4-4-1 system.
Phil Jones has moved to right back, Ashley Young is at left-back and Nani and Januzaj are playing wide.
And not long into the second half, the change paid off with Wayne Rooney hitting the net from close distance to cancel out Ki’s opener with an improvised acrobatic effort:

After putting in 12 crosses without any success in the first half, United put a cross in from Mata and Phil Jones flicked on for Rooney at the back post.
The game is beginning to get scrappy with Taylor and Shelvey yellow carded in the minutes leading up to the goal.

Bayern Munich and Netherlands winger Arjen Robben has been linked with a move to Manchester United recently, but should the Red Devils sign the 30-year-old?
Robben is enjoying an impressive World Cup at present with the Holland national side, and is the tournament’s sixth-highest goalscorer – level with compatriot Robin van Persie with three goals.
Will he line up alongside van Persie at Old Trafford next season?
The Red Devils have just appointed Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal as their new boss following David Moyes’s disastrous reign, and Lvg knows the player well.
It was van Gaal who brought Robben to current club Bayern in 2009, signing him from Real Madrid, and the duo spent two years together at the Allianz Arena, winning the Bundesliga, Dfb-Pokal and Dfb-Supercup in 2010.
And the new United manager “is desperate” to be reunited with Robben at the Theatre of Dreams next season,...

Today’s era of prima donna, poney-tailed, glove-wearing-if-it’s-a-bit-chilly footballers are a far cry from the good old days when you’d warrant a slap for having the temerity for diving in the penalty area or wearing a vest in the middle of April.
Football’s gone soft – particularly at Manchester United – that is, if you choose to buy into our dearly-departed ex-manager David Moyes’s recent claims that certain individuals were “playing like girls”.
To be fair, he probably has a point.
Whether it’s the sight of Ashley Young taking a tumble in a light breeze or a group of millionaires failing to score from 12 yards out four times against Sunderland in one of the worst shootouts ever, some of our players have hardly covered themselves in glory this season.

Manchester United’s out-of-favour winger Nani is reportedly a loan target for Tottenham Hotspur – according to the Evening Standard.
The Portuguese international has made just five league starts for the league holders this season, and is looking to find himself more game time with the 2014 World Cup approaching in the summer.
Despite Manchester United boss David Moyes having offered the former Sporting Lisbon man a deal at Old Trafford until 2018, he’s only been allowed a paltry amount of appearances this season, and is now behind Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Adnan Januazaj, and new-boy Juan Mata in the pecking order.

An early goal from Robin van Persie – back from a long lay-off and named in David Moyes’s side for the first time this year – and a second from Ashley Young in the second half sealed the contest.

Samuel Eto’o trebled his Premier League goal tally for Chelsea by hitting a hat-trick against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge that keeps the Blues hot on the heels of Arsenal.
David Moyes’s Red Devils slumped to their seventh league defeat of the campaign meanwhile, leaving their title defence all but over with 16 games to go. Javier Hernandez netted a consolation here, but United captain Nemanja Vidic saw red before the end. Rafael almost followed suit too.
Jose Mourinho made two changes to the Chelsea team that won at Hull. Ashley Cole and Fernando Torres made way as Branislav Ivanovic returned from injury in defence. Eto’o was preferred in attack and Cesar Azpilicueta switched flanks to left back.
Moyes meanwhile fielded an XI sporting three alterations from the league win over Swansea last time out. Darren Fletcher, Shinji Kagawa and Chris Smalling all dropped to the bench.

Samuel Eto’o became the first Chelsea player since 1954 to hit a hat-trick against Manchester United. A heavy defeat at Stamford Bridge despite Javier Hernandez’s consolation left David Moyes and the Red Devils 14 points off the pace, effectively ending their bid to defend the Premier League title.
Ashley Young drew a low early stop from Petr Cech as United made the better start. Despite that hosts Chelsea went ahead after a quarter of an hour through Eto’o. The veteran African saw his near post shot loop off Michael Carrick and over David De Gea in the opposite corner.
Goalmouth action scarcely followed in this tight, cagey contest. Danny Welbeck scuffed a close range effort straight at Petr Cech late on in the first half after. Cesar Azpilicueta did just enough to put the Red Devils frontman off.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has been hit with a misconduct charge by the Football Association, according to the BBC.
The charge comes in relation to comments made by Moyes about referee Andre Marriner after Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat by Sunderland in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-finals.
The United boss said the champions are “beginning to laugh at referees” for their “terrible” decisions after Marriner awarded a spot-kick when Tom Cleverley was penalised for a challenge on Adam Johnson.
Fabio Borini’s second-half penalty secured a 2-1 win for the home side going into the second leg at Old Trafford in a fortnight.
Moyes has until 18:00 GMT on Wednesday, 15 January to respond to the charge.

Sunderland have not beaten Manchester United since they last met in the League Cup over 13 years ago. Kevin Phillips’s extra time penalty took the Black Cats into quarter-finals in November 2000 with Red Devils goalscorer Dwight Yorke being sent off.
United have since won 16 of the 20 subsequent encounters that have all come in the Premier League and the other four were drawn. The Black Cats will have home advantage first in this two-legged tie with the winners to face either West Ham United or Manchester City at Wembley.
Gus Poyet has had defensive injuries worrying him, but despite Sunderland’s struggle in the league they remain in both domestic cup competitions. The basement club of the English top flight will be targeting an upset in this first leg similar to their shock win over City in November.

Manchester United take on Swansea in the Fa Cup third round knowing they have never lost a home meeting with the South Wales side.
A 4-1 away victory for the Red Devils at the Liberty Stadium on the opening day of the Premier League season ensured David Moyes won his first competitive game in charge. Both he and Michael Laudrup have depleted squads for this encounter as United and the Swans are missing players from their attacks.
The Red Devils saw a run of six straight wins in all competitions stopped by Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Day. Home form is a concern for Moyes as his team have only record victory in two of the last five at Old Trafford.
Swansea meanwhile are on seven-match winless streak and picked up just a single Premier League point during the festive period.

Writing about Manchester United this season feels like kicking someone when they’re already down. The initial schadenfreude has given way to bemusement as you watch them shuffle around the Old Trafford pitch with all the inhibition and reluctance of someone awaiting a prostate exam. Indeed, Moyes steely intimidating stare has dissolved into a kind of confused desperation as the frown lines upon his head grow ever deeper. Dare I say at times you almost feel an ounce of sympathy for the man as every clumsy soundbite or minor slip of the tongue in a press conference is used as another stick to beat him with.
Every football fan across the land is shouting over each other to profess their respective soothsayer-esque abilities for predicting that United would be a weaker presence without the best manager of all time. Incredible insight everyone, pat on the back for you all.

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a third win under Tim Sherwood and victory at Old Trafford for the second season running as Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen goals sunk Manchester United.
A fourth home defeat of the campaign for David Moyes’s Red Devils leaves the Premier League champions with little hope of defending their crown. United are now 11 points behind current leaders Arsenal. Danny Welbeck’s strike in reply on New Year’s Day proved the smallest crumb of comfort.
Sherwood made three changes to the Spurs team that won at home to Stoke City last time out for this trip to the Theatre of Dreams. First choice fullbacks Kyle Walker and Danny Rose returned. Box-to-box midfielder Paulinho missed out, however, after damaging ankle ligaments. Etienne Capoue replaced him whilst Kyle Naughton and Zeki Fryers dropped out.
Moyes fielded an XI with four alterations from the narrow away win at Norwich.

Tottenham Hotspur won at Old Trafford for the second successive season thanks to goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Christian Eriksen. Manchester United responded through Danny Welbeck, but the Premier League champions stay 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Welbeck forced Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal to parry away early on as he raced through on goal and left Michael Dawson for dead. Chris Smalling also drew a save from the visiting keeper.
David De Gea was then worked by Aaron Lennon when Adebayor found Soldado and the Spanish striker slipped in the Tottenham winger. Nemanja Vidic headed wide from a right wing corner on 20 minutes, but the Red Devils later conceded on the counter.
Adebayor headed home Eriksen’s stood up centre ten minutes before half time and Hotspur then could have gone in two goals ahead. Soldado shanked wide, however, when found by a lovely Lennon cross.

Premier League champions Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have drawn their last two meetings. They start 2014 level on points and next to one another in the table both looking to close the gap on the top four.
David Moyes’s Red Devils have hit fine form in their festive fixtures by recording six successive victories after failing to win the first three matches in December. Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood meanwhile got the second win of his reign against Stoke on Sunday.
Spurs are also buoyed by the fact they won on their last visit to Old Trafford in September 2012. Clint Dempsey netted the winner then, but has re-joined former club Fulham on loan from Mls franchise Seattle Sounders.

United will assess Wayne Rooney’s groin injury that kept him out of the away victory at Norwich last time out. The England talisman has been unable to train and remains doubtful.

Premier League champions Manchester United came from two goals down at Hull City to take a hard-earned victory. James Chester opened and ended the scoring, netting at both ends.
The Tigers doubled their lead through David Meyler, but Wayne Rooney then exerted his influence on the match, making one for Chris Smalling before scoring himself and creating the winner.
Hull boss Steve Bruce named an unchanged XI for the fourth match running. David Moyes meanwhile gave fellow Scot Darren Fletcher his first start in over a year as the midfielder stepped up his comeback from a bowel condition. Ashley Young also came in as Phil Jones had a knee injury and Adnan Januzaj made way.

A Wayne Rooney-inspired Manchester United came from two goals down to beat Hull City at the Kc Stadium. The Tigers went ahead early through James Chester’s first Premier League goal and extended it through David Meyler.
Chris Smalling pulled one back for the Red Devils nodding in a Rooney set piece. The England talisman then scored the pick of the goals to restore parity. Rooney then started and finished a move that saw Chester put through his own net midway through the second half.
Hosts Hull went ahead with three and a half minutes played from a controversially awarded corner. Replays showed Ahmed Elmohamady’s cross never touched Tom Cleverley. Chester profited nonetheless as he fired home against his former club when fellow defender Alex Bruce knocked down to him.
United’s poor start continued as they were two down inside 15 minutes after some pinball in the penalty area.

Ashley Young scored his second goal in the space of a week to help Manchester United end their miserable run of defeats at Old Trafford and move up to seventh in the Premier League.
Danny Welbeck had earlier opened the scoring with a low strike into the bottom corner before Adnan Januzaj powered in a close-ranged effort before Young’s clincher.
Substitute Carlton Cole pulled one back late on, though it was of scant consolation as United exercised control over their opponents with a dominant performance.
United did all the early running, with Tom Cleverley seeing his sliding shot palmed out by Adrian after just three minutes before Rooney sent a free-kick from the edge of the area just over.
But the home side would not have long to wait before taking the lead, Welbeck drilling in Rooney’s assist on the left side of the box...

Ashley Young scored his first club goal since May 2012 as Manchester United survived stormy weather to win at Stoke City in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals. David Moyes’s Red Devils edged a match of few chances with captain Patrice Evra also on target.
Young fired wide into the side-netting for United as hosts Stoke survived an early scare. Anderson then worked Thomas Sorensen in the home goal with a low effort midway through the first half.
Referee Mark Clattenburg briefly brought the players off amid a hailstorm. The delay lasted about eight minutes. Just before half time both Red Devils centre backs almost combined for a corner when Chris Smalling nodded across to the unsuspecting Jonny Evans.
Just after the hour the visitors went ahead as Young emphatically ended his goal drought, smashing home after a one-two with sub Javier Hernandez. Evans then looped a header...

Premier League champions Manchester United could clearout as many as ten first-team players as David Moyes weighs up a major overhaul of the Old Trafford squad.
According to the Manchester Evening News, senior Red Devils names, fringe players and struggling performers could all face the axe as United’s title defence falters.
Moyes suffered consecutive home defeats in four days to former club Everton and then Newcastle United at the weekend. These losses have left the champions 13 points and eight places behind league leaders Arsenal.
Veteran defenders Rio Ferdinand, 35, and Patrice Evra, 32, are the first names linked with exiting Old Trafford in the local press. Ferdinand has to be carefully managed and can no longer play every game, so he could retire at the end of the season.
Men’s United writer Stuart Mathieson describes reported target Leighton Baines as “casting a shadow” over French left back Evra since Moyes took charge.

Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria after it was reported the Argentine is instead edging closer toward a move to Monaco.
Di Maria was on United manager David Moyes’s wishlist as he prepares to inject life back into his flagging midfield in the upcoming January transfer window, but the Scot may now have to look elsewhere.
According to talkSPORT, the Madrid man is keen on a move away from the Bernabeu, having become disillusioned with life in Spain following the arrival of Gareth Bale from Tottenham.
However, he instead looks likely to join French moneybags Monaco, with negotiations between the Ligue 1 outfit and the Spanish giants believed to be well underway.
That news will come as a bitter pill to swallow for Moyes, who desperately needs at least one new wideman in the upcoming transfer window.

Wayne Rooney bagged a brace as Manchester United twice came from behind at White Hart Lane to hold Tottenham Hotspur. The hosts registered through Kyle Walker’s free kick and a stunner from Sandro.
This slow burning contest saw goalmouth action markedly absent early on. Aaron Lennon produced a tame effort off his weaker foot, so it trickled through to David De Gea for the hosts.
Sandro then had to be on hand to block Rooney’s effort after Vlad Chiriches cheaply ceded possession. Spurs went ahead on 18 minutes after surviving that Red Devils scare.
Jonny Evans fouled Paulinho on the edge of the box and up stepped Tottenham right back Walker, who fired a low free kick under the wall and past De Gea.
Spurs skipper Michael Dawson then saw a shot blocked by Rooney as he turned a right wing corner towards United’s goal.

Manchester United came away from their Champions League visit to Basque Country club Real Sociedad with a point. A goalless draw in San Sebastian leaves David Moyes’s Red Devils within one more victory of the knockout stage.

It’s hard to break the habit of a lifetime. Winger Young has been on the fringes of United’s first team since going down easily to win a penalty in a home Premier League game against Crystal Palace.
Young played the role of impact sub in San Sebastian coming on with a third of the game to go when Moyes changed his attack. From the left flank he created an opening for Robin van Persie.

Real Sociedad and 10-man Manchester United both take a point from a game neither really did enough to warrant winning.
Both sides exchanged half-chances in the first-half but not enough to break the deadlock. Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa came close, but saw his shot deflected wide, while the hosts failed to create any clear-cut chances in the first 45 minutes.
In the second-half Javier Hernandez had a glorious opportunity to put the visitors ahead, but the Mexican hit his shot over the bar from inside the six-yard box.
United made two changes in the second-half, and the substitutes both linked up well which almost led to a goal for the away side. Robin Van Persie hit the woodwork after steering Ashley Young’s cross goal wards.
Manchester United were awarded a penalty with around 20 minutes of normal time remaining. Ashley Young was adjudged to have been fouled in the area,...

Manchester United manager David Moyes is set to wield the axe in the New Year and could sell as many as four under-performing stars, according to the International Business Times.
Moyes has watched on as the side he inherited from Sir Alex Ferguson crashed to their worst start to a league season since 1989, winning just four of their opening nine Premier League games.
And now, the former Everton boss is set to come down hard on his flops in the January transfer window, with the futures of defender Rafael and midfield trio Anderson, Ashley Young and Nani all believed to be under threat.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has admitted he will seriously consider sending Wilfried Zaha out on loan in January, according to Sky Sports.
Zaha only joined United permanently in the summer but is still yet to make his first league appearance under Moyes following his transfer from Crystal Palace.
And, having been officially signed back in January, but allowed to see out the remainder of the 2012-13 season on loan with the Eagles, another stint away appears to be on the cards.
Numerous clubs are thought to be willing to offer the young winger the first team opportunities he craves and are prepared to take him on a short-term basis.
United were at first reluctant to loan the 20-year-old back out again, but may now be more inclined to listen to interested parties.
That is because, as Moyes himself says, the English champions have too much competition out on the flanks.

Adnan Januzaj was an unused substitute in Sir Alex Ferguson’s last match as United manager and whilst the young Belgian did not make it onto the pitch, his inclusion in the match day squad was a subtle hint from Fergie as to where he believed the future of the club lay. His name is one that many may not have been familiar with before the season began but he has quickly acquired the poisoned chalice of being labelled as ‘the next big thing’ at Old Trafford. Whether he can make as much of an impact as an 18-year-old from Portugal, born exactly ten years before him, time will tell.
Unlike Ronaldo, Januzaj did not make a big money move to England, having left Anderlecht to join United as a 16-year-old in 2011 for a nominal fee. He progressed through the club’s youth system and his performances on the club...

After a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion this week, Manchester United manager David Moyes was informed it was the worst start the side have made since the 1989/90 season.
The Premier League holders have seven points from their first six league games, and have already been defeated by Liverpool (1-0), Manchester City (4-1), and West Brom (2-1) this season.
Moyes insists he can turn the club around, but their dismal start is a worry for many who were backing the side to retain the Premier League crown – as United are currently eight points off first-placed Arsenal.
A number of longer-serving Manchester United players have been at fault early on this season, and their poor showings may give Moyes pause for thought whether they can re-find their form or if they need to be replaced – most notably, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Nani, Anderson, and Michael Carrick.

The battle for Manchester resumes this Sunday, as Manchester United travel east across Mancunian Way to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City. Even though Red versus Blue may be the starkest of contrasts, both teams come into the game in similar states. Both have new managers, both secured strong opening victories in the Champions League, and each team has gathered seven points in the English Premier League, with comprehensive wins followed by stuttering performances (City’s draw with Stoke City and United’s loss to Liverpool come to mind).
Although this game comes relatively early in the fixture list, with victory unlikely to amount to a fatal blow for the loser, each team will be confident of putting one over on their rivals.

Ashley Young has a bad reputation for diving, and many didn’t think it would take the Manchester United winger long to get himself a yellow for simulation this season.
In his side’s weekend clash against Crystal Palace, he was indeed caught red-handed by referee Jon Moss – who subsequently booked the United man for diving.
Following the game, manager David Moyes revealed how he won’t tolerate diving in any form, and he will relay the very same message to Young.
Ashley Young, an England international, has been guilty of numerous dives in the last 12 months – most notably against Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers. When side-stepping a challenge from a defender, Young always appears to leave his trailing leg out to make contact with the defender, before going down and claiming a penalty.
He’s gotten away with it just as many as he’s...

The first game at Old Trafford of the 2013-14 season could hardly be a more tantalising one.
There have been managerial changes at both clubs over the Summer, but there is only one player that has dominated the column inches when it comes to these two sides; Wayne Rooney. The England striker came on as a 62nd minute substitute in the Red Devils’ 4-1 opening day victory against Swansea last weekend, and it remains to be seen if David Moyes will include him in his starting line-up later today.
Rafael is sidelined for up to a month with a hamstring injury, along with Nani (groin), Ashley Young (ankle) and Javier Hernandez (hamstring).
David Luiz is a doubt for the blues after picking up a hamstring problem, and Mourinho may opt to start Romelu Lukaku in attack.

Manchester United’s trip to Swansea on Saturday evening will be the dawn of a new era for the club with David Moyes leading the Red Devils out for their first league game since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
A string of injuries to first team players currently plague the visitors. The suspended Rafael misses out, plus Jonny Evans is a doubt for the United back line.
Michael Carrick, Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez are also doubts whilst midfield duo Nick Powell and Darren Fletcher are definite exclusions due to injury.
As for Swansea, Pablo Hernandez is expected to make a recovery from the injury that ruled him out of the Swans’ trip to Sweden last Thursday but Jonathan de Guzman will miss out after suffering a concussion on international duty with Holland.

Manchester United have reportedly tabled a £60 milllion bid for Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale, according to the Huffington Post.
Despite putting in bids for Everton’s Leighton Baines and Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, United are yet to strengthen their squad under the reign of new manager David Moyes.
However, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has flown back to England four days ahead of schedule and the Premier League champions have now made a firm offer for the double Pfa Player of the Year winner.
United have a long-standing interest in Bale and almost signed him during his Southampton days in 2007, but the Welsh international opted for a move to White Hart Lane instead, concerned that he would struggle for appearances at Old Trafford.
Regarded as a left-back at the time, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs were established on the left-wing while Nani had just arrived from Sporting Lisbon, and so Bale felt...

Manchester United winger Nani is a target for Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, according to the Mirror.
The Portuguese midfielder will sit out the English champion’s three-week long pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia with injury, meaning we could have seen the 26-year-old in a United shirt for the last time.
Cash-rich club Anzhi are hoping to secure Nani’s services in a £12 million deal, and former Red Devils coach Rene Muelensteen, who has joined Guus Hiddink at the Russian club, could be instrumental in any deal going through.
The 26-year-old fell out of favour under Sir Alex Ferguson last season and only made 10 Premier League appearances, and it is understood new manager David Moyes has offered no assurances that he will get more playing time next season either.
United paid Sporting Lisbon £17 million for Nani back in 2007 but with just one year remaining on the player’s contract,...

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal Fc are preparing a £15 million bid for Manchester United winger, Nani.
The 26-year-old Portuguese international has been linked with several clubs over the last year but it seems Arsenal are ready to make an official bid. Nani is one United’s most inconsistent players in the squad and has failed to make a real first-team statement.
Nani’s ability is clearly visible but his lack on effectiveness as well being stuck in the shadow of former United ace and fellow international teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has made United fans become frustrated with the winger.
Nani has made just 21 appearances this season and with the likes of Shinji Kagawa, Wayne Rooney, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Alexandre Buttner and Wilfried Zaha all able to play on United’s wing, Nani’s future at Old Trafford doesn’t look bright.
Nani was sent off in United’s Champions...
