Directed by Robert Harmon from a screenplay by Eric Red, the 1986 horror thriller The Hitcher (watch it Here) was one of the coolest movies to be released in a decade that was packed with cool movies. And on today’s episode of The Arrow in the Head Show, hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek have been joined by The Hitcher writer Red for a look back at the classic film. To hear what they had to say about the movie, check out the video embedded above!
The Hitcher has the following synopsis: While transporting a car from Chicago to San Diego, Jim Halsey picks up a hitchhiker named John Ryder, who claims to be a serial killer. After a daring escape, Jim hopes to never see Ryder again. But when he witnesses the hitchhiker murdering an entire family, Jim pursues Ryder with the help of truck-stop waitress Nash,...

Roberto San Sebastián’s The Night of the Virgin (aka La noche del virgen) is one of those genre films that, since early on, you know it’ll be all about the execution of its climax. The basic setting goes like this: nerdy young man Nico is visibly the only one of a group of friends who’s not having a blast during a New Year’s Eve party, though his luck changes when older lady Medea (Miriam Martín) puts her eyes on him and eventually invites him over to her house to continue with the celebration. The objective of Nico is to (finally) get laid, yet the creepiness of Medea’s attitude and apartment is evident...

The Night of the Virgin is the latest film release from Cleopatra Entertainment. Developed by director Roberto San Sebastián and writer Guillermo Guerrero, the film involves a young man, determined to lose his virginity at a New Year's Eve party. Unfortunately, he picks a true demon-in-the-sheets. The Night of the Virgin is a horror comedy starring: Javier Bodalo, Miriam Martin, Victor Amilibia, Ignatius Farray and Rocio Suarez. The film's official trailer and release details are hosted here. From the synopsis, Nico (Bodalo) meets Medea (Martin). Nico pursues this mature woman for a round of "celebratory sex." Instead of sex, he ends up receiving a lecture, just before Medea's boyfriend returns home. Nico is now trapped in an apartment and he will not be allowed to leave without risking his life. The Night of the Virgin is an award winning film and set to release shortly. This title has received at least 13 festival awards,...

Jacob and Tab are on the highway to hell with the road horror classic The Hitcher (1986) and Death Proof (2007), Quentin Tarantino’s flawed but fun love letter to road thrillers and Russ Meyer films! They both love The Hitcher and the depiction of the complex symbiotic/toxic relationship between John Ryder and Jim Halsey, but can Tab […]...

In a cinematic age dominated by tentpoles and “influencers,” it’s refreshing to visit the world of film festivals, where one can still find content that’s authentically transgressive. I’m certain that some fans encountered the madness that is The Night of the Virgin (La Noche de Virgen) at the Fantasia Film Festival this past weekend. Roberto San Sebastián’s visceral, inverted homage to occult thrillers follows in the tradition of low-budget movies that push bodily functions and human behavior to the limit. Does that make it good? It depends on what you’re looking for. Considering the levels to which this film goes, some people would be advised against looking at all.
We begin with awkward, lonely Nico (played with a weird but oddly sweet charm by Javier Bódalo), who seeks to lose his virginity on New Year’s Eve. He’s about to give up when he...

Don’t mess with a Nepali “cantara” on New Year’s—especially if you’re a virgin. Had young Nico (Javier Bódalo) only been warned, he might have avoided the worst nightmare of his life. While his virginity wasn’t for a lack of trying (or spilled drinks, vomit, and curt rebukes), somehow surviving a night in the home of the first female to ever look at him with desire (Miriam Martín’s Medea) could force him to never want to undress again let alone wish to do so in the vicinity of a woman who might potentially let him. Let’s just say that Nico’s travels to a cesspool of urban filth (Medea’s bathroom rivals Trainspotting) in hopes of being deflowered by someone twice his age don’t quite turn out how he imagined.
