Invitation to Murder is a mystery film directed by Stephen Shimek.
Does a story about England, an invitation, different characters and a murder to be solved sound familiar? They’re called whodonit, and the greatest exponent of the genre was the ever-great Agatha Christie.
Here’s a charming film that captures the essence, step by step, without the minimum intent of originality.
Delightful in its evocation of English traditionalism.
And in its consequent repetition, too.
Movie Review
Curiously enough, this is actually a French production in which everything takes us to England, to those stories that, although already a bit worn out by repetition, continue to captivate. A good mystery for a film that, without a doubt, we have already seen.
There is nothing original in a film that is a tribute to the English writer and, in the end, little more than a rather televised episode that may entertain...

"You gotta get down into the muck if you wanna find the truth." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for another whodunit murder mystery movie called Invitation to a Murder, which is skipping theaters entirely and is debuting on VOD directly in April this spring. Once you get a look at this, you'll understand exactly why. This is some low rent cheap junk, and the cast is especially mediocre, too. Set in the South of England in 1934. For no apparent reason and also like five other unrelated people, Miranda, a 28-year-old florist, is invited for the weekend in the mansion of billionaire Lewis Findley. What's become of their absent host? And who just murdered one of the guests in cold blood? Of course, there's only one way to find out – pay the money to rent and watch this movie. It stars Mischa Barton, Chris Browning, Seamus Dever, Giles Matthey, Grace Lynn Kung,...

"We all, kind of, take care of each other here." Dark Sky Films has unveiled the official trailer for an indie horror film titled 1Br, a reference to "one bedroom" listings for apartments. This premiered at numerous genre festivals last year, including at Fantasia, Beyond Fest, Monsterfest Melbourne, and also the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. Nicole Brydon Bloom plays Sarah, a young woman trying to escape her painful past who decides to start anew in La, but her neighbors are not what they seem. Also starring Giles Matthey, Taylor Nichols, Alan Blumenfeld, Celeste Sully, Susan Davis, Clayton Hoff, with Earnestine Phillips. This definitely looks creepy as hell, with some big twists hinted at in this trailer. Tread carefully. "You need to pull it together." Shout Studios has unveiled a trailer for the "gripping, suspenseful thriller" titled Ambition, the latest film directed by producer Bob Shaye. In Ambition, Katherine Hughes stars as a young aspiring violinist preparing for a competition. She's incredibly confidant and gets wrapped up in a frightening trap that she has to find her way out of. It raises the question: If an insane person is telling a story, is it real? That sounds like quite an intriguing introduction to this film. The full cast includes Sonoya Mizuno, Giles Matthey, Kyanna Simone, Jared Bankens, Deneen Tyler, Dylan McNamara, and Jordan Salmon, with a special appearance by Lin Shaye. Ambition is said to "create a world where desire and revenge converge into a questionable reality." Seems a bit like Black Swan, but with even more horror. Director/writer: David Marmor. Cast: Naomi Grossman, Giles Matthey, Taylor Nichols, Nicole Brydon Bloom and Andrea Gabriel. 1Br had its World Premiere in Montreal this July. A Malevolent Films production, the film took its script from the director's personal experience living in Los Angeles. The film deals with cults and may even take its influences from Scientology. Focusing on the character Sarah (Nicole Brydon Bloom), 1Br offers a few twists and turns as the film switches genres early in Act I. 1Br is definitely one to head out to. The film focuses centrally on Sarah. She has just moved to Los Angeles, leaving behind a troubling family conflict. In Los Angeles, she sets herself up in a residence, where everyone is a bit too happy. After settling in, the torture begins as Sarah is initiated into a modern cult; she is unable to escape on her own. Accepting her situation,...

The common nostalgia for an idealized simpler time in which tight-knit communities satisfied all personal needs can be warped to serve fascist ideologies, a notion that is not at all lost on “1Br.” In this thriller, a needy, insecure young woman thinks she’s lucked out in being accepted to an apartment complex where everyone is very, very neighborly. But she gradually learns this little utopia is in fact more of a prison — one with a brutal assimilation process, and where a sense of belonging comes at the cost of absolute conformity, or else.
Writer-director David Marmor’s first feature doesn’t make much of this concept’s potential as a timely political metaphor, nor does he maximize his opportunities in such other departments as suspense, character involvement and cinematic style. Still, the premise remains intriguing enough to make “1Br” a qualified success, albeit one whose ideas sometimes cry for...

As we progress further into the new and yet familiar Once Upon A Time, there have been slow reveals regarding the characters (both new and old) and their pasts. That’s always been a part of the DNA of Once Upon A Time. But for some reason, exploring Rumplestiltskin’s story from the missing years had the some of the highest emotional stakes that any Ouat flashbacks have ever had. “Beauty” revisits Rumple’s relationship with Belle and watches their son, Gideon, grow up into a man. The return of Emilie De Ravin and Giles Matthey, though short lived, was completely worth the wait. Sure, there were other elements

Hey, "Once Upon A Time" fans. We recently got an official press release from ABC for the upcoming "Once Upon A Time" episode 4 of this current 7th season. The press release includes a brief preview description of some of the things we can expect to see in the new episode. It sounds like we'll see some pretty interesting stuff take place in this one as Tilly tries to wake up from the curse. Victoria tries to stop that from happening. There's some intense flashback scenes and more. To start things off, they let us know that episode 4 is entitled, "Beauty." In their main description, they revealed that it will be Halloween in the new Hyperion Heights town. In light of this fact, Victoria is going to force Ivy to take Lucy out for a trick-or-treat run. So, it doesn't sound like anything too wild will go on with that particular storyline.

Horror movies that trap a character or group of characters in one confined location can be quite effective in the right hands, and two of the best recent examples are Adam Green’s Frozen and Rodrigo Cortes’ Buried. It’s quite impressive to see what a filmmaker can do with such a limited set of resources, and both Green and Cortes pulled incredible amounts of suspense out of premises that seemed destined to sink. As for Steven C. Miller’s attempt to do the same, well, it just kind of sinks.
Written by Scott Milam and directed by Miller (Silent Night), Submerged centres on a group of young characters who are quite literally trapped in a limousine at the bottom of a canal.

Things are about to get interesting in Storybrooke. As Once Upon a Time returned for the second half of season six, Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) found their way home out of the wish land--thanks to an always-welcome appearance from August (guest star Eion Bailey)--bringing with them the wish land's version of Robin (Sean Maguire), which shouldn't get weird at all. (Yeah, right.) Once home, Emma had the showdown with the hooded figure that's been plaguing her all season long, only she found the strength to flip the script on Gideon (Giles Matthey), blasting him with her powers and putting up a good fight. Although, as Gold (Robert Carlyle) later told Belle (Emilie de Ravin),...

Motherhood was a real — and devastating — whirlwind for Once Upon a Time‘s Belle, who after having her pregnancy magically accelerated and then giving birth to a son, tasked the Blue Fairy with taking wee Gideon far, far away, to elude his father Rumplestiltskin’s clutches.
Yet from the sound of it, Belle’s little boy is far from out of the woods, as the ABC series serves up its midseason finale this Sunday at 8/7c. Here, Emilie de Ravin weighs in on Belle’s sacrifice, the state of the “Rumbelle” relationship and a “scary” twist to come.

If you've always wondered what secrets may be lurking in Captain Hook's past, look no further than far, far under the sea.
We might not have imagined a ship's captain entangling with a captain of a submarine, but we may have to rethink that scenario.
Faran Tahir will be coming aboard Once Upon a Time Season 6 as none other than Captain Nemo
According to EW, Tahir will play the "hardened leader of the Nautilus submarine, who’s a zealous believer in a cause that takes him from 20,000 leagues under the sea to the destiny that he won’t let anyone prevent him from achieving."
There really is not story that's off limits to step ashore at Storybrooke. Isn't it wonderful?
This season the entire show is opening up to the Land of Untold Stories, which goes beyond the fairytale characters with which we've become familiar.
It's a fairly unique concept...

Once Upon A Time is continuing to staff up for Season 6!
The latest addition to the cast is Giles Matthey.
He will play a character named Morpheus.
It sounds like a pretty powerful name, right?
That's because he is powerful. He's a Greek god, so he must be pretty strong.
There's word that he's good at reading minds and even better at guiding people through the world of dreams.
It all sounds pretty ominous, but intriguing.
View Slideshow: 17 Couples Who Need A Vacation...Right Now!
Matthey has previously appeared in the likes of 24 and True Blood.
Once Upon A Time Season 5 was lacking in the quality department due to overusing the same characters and situations.
The latest casting news makes me think that the show is about to return to the show I loved a few seasons ago.
Things in Storybrooke are going to be rocky when the show returns.

Submerged is a nifty little kitchen-sink thriller that crawls deep under your skin, much like a Pandora’s Box of phobias ripe for the prodding. Not only do a group of teens find themselves trapped inside a sealed limousine, but said vehicle is resting silently on the bottom of a deep canal. Oh, and hitmen wait above the water for their targets to eventually surface, because who doesn’t dig some batshit overkill? Scott Milam is a proper bastard for capturing all my recurring nightmares in one suffocating script, and Steven C. Miller earns the same pale-faced praise for bringing them to life in this air-tight terror. Yes – armed divers and all.
Everything begins underwater, but it’s not long before flashbacks offer background information and better times. Matt (Jonathan Bennett), who comes-to behind the limo’s wheel, reveals himself to be an ex-solider who serves as bodyguard for a wealthy businessman’s family.

Boulevard Trailer. Dito Montiel‘s Boulevard (2014) movie trailer stars Robin Williams, Bob Odenkirk, Kathy Baker, and Giles Matthey. Boulevard‘s plot synopsis: “A devoted husband in a marriage of convenience is forced to confront his secret life.”
Boy, oh boy. It’s hard to make a trailer for this film without it feeling off. Robin Williams hanged himself and slit his wrists. That’s dark. There’s nothing inspiring or positive or hopeful about any of that. We’re told to celebrate his life, and we sure do. We love his films, and we miss his personality.
Robin Williams has always been his best in dramatic performances. I truly believe that. I know he’s a funny-man, a comedian to most, and probably best known as Ms. Doubtfire. But even in that movie, you can see the emotional intellect behind his face. He was a highly intelligent man, and impossible talented.

The world is still in shock over the passing of Robin Williams yesterday and details are still coming out about what is now reportedly said to be an "apparent suicide attempt by hanging" following a battle with severe depression according to CBS News.
With the tragedy of an actor's untimely death though comes the grim business of show business, namely determining the fate of the projects they were involved in. The 63-year-old was a busy man with several films still awaiting release.
