The upcoming Thunderbolts* film is poised to be one of the most exciting entries in the MCU’s upcoming slate. The studio has made several changes within the studio creatively and approach-wise to improve its output after a string of underperforming projects. With the team behind Netflix’s Beef coming in, expectations are quite high for the film.
Concept art featuring the team in Thunderbolts*
The film will unite a rag-tag team of antiheroes, including Yelena Belova, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, US Agent, Ghost, and Bucky Barnes. Following Florence Pugh’s on-set video that went viral a few weeks ago, a new photo, presumably from the film, shows a new look at Sebastian Stan as Bucky. But fans are rather focused on a Jeremy Renner look-alike in the photo.

Thunderbolts* remains one of Marvel Studios' most mysterious and intriguing upcoming movies, with that asterisk only serving to heighten anticipation for a project many believe is secretly Dark Avengers.
There are perhaps a few too many heroes on the team for that to happen, with it currently looking a lot like a sequel to Black Widow and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
In the latter, Bucky Barnes was fully freed from his Winter Soldier programming and now seems to be working with the CIA as part of this government-approved team. Rumour has it his role in Thunderbolts* isn't massive, leading to concerns this could be where the hero's story ends.
We'll see, but a new set photo has surfaced today showcasing Bucky's overhauled appearance.
He's not suited up but is wearing a traditional suit and rocking a pretty mean goatee. Is he undercover or just shaking up his appearance?...

Back in March, Florence Pugh announced that cameras were officially rolling on Thunderbolts by sharing a video from the set to her Instagram page.
The brief clip highlighted Pugh's updated outfit, a first look at Yelena Belova taking aim on one of the monitors, and the movie's official logo on the back of a chair, which appeared to reveal the addition of an asterisk to the title.
Marvel Studios later shared the video, confirming that the supervillain movie will now officially be known as Thunderbolts*.
What does this signify? There are several theories, the most popular of which speculates that Thunderbolts* is actually going to be a Dark Avengers movie. Kevin Feige did address the title change during CinemaCon last month, but said we'd have to wait until the film was in theaters to find out what it means.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was one of the main attractions of the hit NBC series Seinfeld. The brainchild of comedian Jerry Seinfeld, many of its storylines were inspired by real-life experiences of Seinfeld’s life. The series ran for 9 successful seasons and is considered one of the most influential sitcoms of all time.

The show in total consisted of 180 episodes throughout its entire run and while the makers pulled off some risky one-liners and jokes through them, one episode proved to be too extreme for the cast and they had to pull the plug on the episode. Wyatt Russell debuted in the MCU as John Walker/ US Agent in 2021’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The character became the US government’s answer for Steve Rogers’ replacement as Captain America. John Walker was a great addition to the MCU as his complex and divisive position within the show created a lot of interesting chatter among audiences.

The MCU is going through a rough period with critical and commercial failures. From poor CGI work in movies and series to weak storylines, this is not the MCU the fans are familiar with. Marvel’s concerning state has also attracted the attention of the Bucky Barnes star Sebastian Stan. However, the actor is optimistic that his upcoming film may contribute to some positive change in the MCU.

The Thunderbolts set video begins with Pugh exiting her trailer in full costume, with her hair looking shorter than it was in Black Widow. As she moves into the Atlanta studio, we see pieces of large sets before she comes across director Jake Schreier. You can see the Thunderbolts logo on the back of a chair as well as a brief snippet of footage on the monitor, which shows Yelena pointing a gun at someone. With any other movie, this might not seem particularly revealing, but for a Marvel movie… well, I’d be putting my will in order.

Florence Pugh is back in Marvel movie mode and shared to Instagram a first look set video from the Atlanta studio where “Thunderbolts” is now in production. Florence Pugh’s Thunderbolts has had a bit of a bumpy ride on the way to production. The new Marvel film has been faced with scheduling conflicts, and the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023 further delayed the film. When Steven Yeun stepped down from the role of Sentry, it caused a bit of a headache for the studio.
Sentry is one of the most powerful characters about to be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the absence of Yeun, fan theories abound about which actor might be the most suitable to don the mantle. Now, new fan art with a star from the Fast and Furious franchise might have stirred the speculation pot once again.

Sentry is a beloved character, and the hype around him only grew when Marvel announced the Thunderbolts.

The ‘very male-gazed orientation’ of the 1980s version of Red Sonja will be a thing of the past in the remake, says Matilda Lutz.
Fantasy adventure Red Sonja emerged in 1985, three years after 1982’s Conan The Barbarian and around the time of the unexpectedly daft Conan The Destroyer. Red Sonja, directed by Destroyer’s Richard Fleischer, cashed in on that series’ popularity and also featured its star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, alongside 80s icon Brigitte Nielsen who starred as the titular female warrior.
There has been talk of a reboot of the movie for years, but it seems to be a project that has taken forever to bring to the screen – and we’re not just talking about the hold-ups caused by strikes and pandemics. A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, she did talk about the making of the film (and the metal bikini she had to wear in it) during an interview with Collider.

As far as Marvel movies go, Black Widow is one of the most divisive entries in the long-running series of inter-connected superhero slugfests. While some fans feel the movie was too late to the party, others say it was a questionable display of Marvel’s dependence on shotty VFX above character-driven narratives. On another end of the spectrum, Ray Winstone, who plays Dreykov, the film’s Big Bad and dominating force behind the Red Room project, says making the movie was a nightmare. Winstone’s experience in the film was so exhausting that the actor tried to have himself recast.
Speaking with Radio Times, Winstone said, “It was fine until you have to do the reshoots,” Winstone said about his Black Widow experience. “Then you find out that a few producers have come down, and your performance is too much, it’s too strong… That’s the way Marvel works.

Once again, Marvel's long-awaited "Thunderbolts" movie has been given a new release date. The good news for those looking forward to this one is that, for once, Disney has moved the film up by a couple of months rather than delay it again. Whether or not this date is the one that sticks remains to be seen, but mark your calendars for May 2, 2025, and plan accordingly.
Marvel Studios did a little bit of shuffling around with its release calendar, with "The Fantastic Four" taking over the July 25, 2025, release date that was previously held by "Thunderbolts." In announcing the new dates, Marvel also finally confirmed the cast for "Fantastic Four," with Pedro Pascal playing Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby playing Sue Storm, Ebon Moss Bachrach playing Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn playing Johnny Storm. Most of those names have been circling the rumor mill for some time, but have finally been made official.

More changes are happening for the cast line-up of Marvel's Thunderbolts. On the heels of Steven Yeun departing (with Top Gun: Maverick's Lewis Pullman reportedly in talks to replace him), we have another substitution in the works. The Bear's Ayo Edebiri, who had been in an unspecified role for the film is now departing due to a schedule clash, to be replaced by Blockers' Geraldine Viswanathan.
Thunderbolts, which assembles the likes of Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, has been beset by delays thanks to the dual strikes of last year.

The upcoming Marvel Studios production Thunderbolts is going to feature multiple actors from various previous Marvel films and TV shows reprising their roles. It’s got Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster… and if Thunderbolts had started filming last summer, as it was supposed to before the strikes hit, it also would have had actress/writer/comedian Ayo Edebiri, whose credits include Big Mouth, The Bear, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, in the cast. Unfortunately for Edebiri, the production delay caused her to run into scheduling issues, so she has had to drop out of the project. Deadline reports that the character she was going to be playing will now be played by Geraldine Viswanathan.

Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” is coming further into focus.
Geraldine Viswanathan has joined the cast of the team-up film, replacing Ayo Edebiri in an undisclosed role after the Emmy-winning “The Bear” star dropped out of the project due to scheduling.
Viswanathan joins a massive ensemble cast of actors playing some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best known anti-heroes, including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker (aka U.S. Agent), Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr (aka Ghost), Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Although specific plot details remain top secret, the movie will effectively serve as Marvel’s version of the DC’s anti-hero team the Suicide Squad, with the characters brought together to do the dirty jobs the Avengers can’t do.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seemingly found its new Sentry. Though it hasn't been officially confirmed by the folks at Marvel Studios, it has been reported widely that the character will appear in the upcoming "Thunderbolts" movie that is set to conclude Phase 5 of the MCU. Recently, Steven Yeun announced his departure from the film, which left the production with a pretty big problem to solve.
According to Deadline, Lewis Pullman is the man who has been tasked with solving that problem. The 30-year-old actor, best known for his work in movies like "Top Gun: Maverick" and "The Strangers: Prey at Night," is now poised to join his biggest franchise yet. Jake Schreier is directing "Thunderbolts," which is expected to begin filming in the coming months. Exclusive: Geraldine Viswanathan is set to join Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts as she replaces Ayo Edebiri, who is departing the project due to scheduling after production was delayed due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year.
Viswanathan is the second recent addition after the film added Lewis Pullman to step in for Steven Yeun, who departed for similar scheduling reasons as Edebiri.
Marvel had no comment.

It was reported earlier that Steven Yeun was set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the Thunderbolts film. Unfortunately, scheduling issues that cropped up due to last year’s dual strikes in Hollywood would now prevent Yeun from participating in filming. The actor felt remorse for the dilemma and wanted to make it clear that he hopes to join the MCU in the future, “I wanna do a Marvel movie. I have some ideas.” Yeun would also apologize to the fans for holding up the production, “It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out.” Deadline is now reporting that Top Gun: Maverick‘s Lewis Pullman is now in talks with Marvel Studios to be Yeun’s replacement. The highly-discussed ‘Thunderbolts’ MCU project, unveiled by Kevin Feige in September, solidified its cast with David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko reprising their roles. Notably, Yelena Belova was confirmed to join the Thunderbolts team.
Initially, Steven Yeun was set to portray Sentry, a choice that faced criticism due to perceived disparities with the character’s comic book appearance. After Yeun withdrew, attributing it to post-SAG-AFTRA strike scheduling conflicts, rumors circulated that Austin Abrams might step into the role. Abrams, recognized for his performances in ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Euphoria,’ and various films, was purportedly considered for the complex character of Robert Reynolds.

If there’s one upcoming MCU project that has been talked about in recent times, it’s ‘Thunderbolts.’ In September Kevin Feige announced that David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko would be reprising their roles as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Ava Starr/Ghost, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, John Walker/U.S. Agent, and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, respectively, in the film. He also confirmed that Yelena Belova would be a part of the Thunderbolts team in the film.
Now, the cast of the upcoming movie was the most talked-about aspect of the movie. Initially, Steven Yeun was cast to play Sentry in the movie, and the confirmation followed soon. The Walking Dead and Minari actor Steven Yeun wants to apologize to Marvel fans after he dipped out of starring in the upcoming ensemble flick Thunderbolts. Speaking with Variety’s Marc Malkin about exiting the superhero project, Yeun cited the SAG-AFTRA strike as one reason for bowing out of the anticipated film.
“I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it,” Yeun explained. “But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.”
“It took a lot of drafts on email to make sure that I conveyed the sincerity of how sorry I was to have to back out,” Yeun adds.
While Yeun is leaving Marvel’s Thunderbolts behind, he’s still interested in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I wanna do a Marvel movie,” Yeun told Variety, though he did not specify which project he’d like to become a part of.

In June 2022, the ‘Thunderbolts’ film was confirmed, with Jake Schreier directing and Eric Pearson writing. Production was set for Summer 2023, featuring MCU actors. However, the SAG-AFTRA strike stalled the industry for over 3 months, impacting interconnected projects like the MCU. In September, Kevin Feige revealed the cast, including David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko, reprising roles.
Yelena Belova was confirmed for the Thunderbolts. In February 2023, Steven Yeun’s role as Sentry was announced and met with mixed reactions. Despite fan speculation, Yeun left the role due to scheduling conflicts arising from the previous year’s strike, as revealed in a Variety interview.
I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it,” Yeun explained. “But Jake [Schreier], I know, is going to do an incredible job.

In June 2022, the ‘Thunderbolts’ film was confirmed to be in the works. Jake Schreier was set to direct, and Eric Pearson writing the script. Production was slated to kick off in Summer 2023, and the cast was expected to include actors already associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Marvel Studios making efforts to ensure their availability. Then, the SAG-AFTRA strike happened and paralyzed the industry for more than 3 months. Plenty of projects in Hollywood suffered, and MCU, whose projects are not exactly standalone and are all basically interconnected, suffered the most.

Steven Yeun has exited the Marvel Studios project, reportedly due to scheduling issues following last year’s strikes.
We already know that Marvel Studios is having to carefully ponder what to do with the Kang character, following the studio’s dismissal of Jonathan Majors. Now it seems that it has another character’s future to figure out, with several of the Hollywood trades reporting that Nope's Steven Yeun has dropped out of Thunderbolts.
As far as we’re aware, the impact of last year’s strikes meant that actual production work on Thunderbolts never began, although it was only around a month away from shooting when the writer’s strike in May resulted in work on the film being suspended.
It’s looking likely that production will be commencing around March or April of this year, but the ensemble will be missing one key name: Steven Yeun.

Marvel’s Thunderbolts is bringing a fresh narrative to the table, with David Harbour’s Red Guardian and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova at the center of its intriguing storyline. Harbour, in a recent interview with ScreenRant, shed light on the complex dynamics between these two characters.
He revealed that the film delves into the characters’ shared history, particularly their time as spies in the Midwest. This aspect of their past plays a significant role in the movie, adding depth to their relationship. For instance, it mirrors the depth seen in the ‘Black Widow’ film, notably in the scene featuring the song “American Pie.”
What stands out in Harbour’s description is the nuanced relationship between Red Guardian and Yelena. Despite Yelena’s apparent disdain for him, she relies on him in ways that she might not fully understand. This reflects the often complicated nature of real-life relationships, where the...

Superhero movies are ubiquitous at this point, and the biggest name in the game is Marvel. Not just any Marvel, mind you, but Marvel Studios. Starting with 2008’s “Iron Man,” Marvel Studios and its now-president Kevin Feige started experimenting with the idea of telling one long, interconnected story over multiple movies with different lead characters, crossing over from time to time – just like in the comics. That experiment proved successful with 2012’s “The Avengers,” and it’s been hit after hit ever since.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow, even in the wake of the conclusive nature of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” and it can be hard to keep track of what’s coming down the pike. Below, we’ve assembled a list of every confirmed MCU movie currently in the works, when it’s coming out, who’s in it, and what we know about each project so far.
