Shiphrah Meditz has been involved with the film industry since
graduating high-school in '09, having written spec scripts for the
Nigerian Television Authority, creating a musical adaptation of Oscar
Wilde's novel, "The Picture of Dorian Grey". Her interest in directing
began in August '11 with the short films, 'Leah's Choice' and 'Where
Snakes Roam,' which she produced and directed in Auckland, New Zealand
and Austin, Texas. She also directed the music video, 'Musicophilia,'
which has been used to bring awareness to the '11 wildfire devastation
in Bastrop, Texas. In '12, Shiphrah began work producing and directing
her debut feature film, 'The Dying Eye,' in Edinburgh Scotland. The
film finished production in February '13 and post production in
December '13. The production team, led by Shiphrah, advertised 'The
Dying Eye' at the 66th Annual Festival de Cannes. Since then,'The Dying
Eye' has been nominated for the awards 'Best Horror/Thriller' and 'Best
Director' and screened at the Southampton International Film Festival.
In addition to film-making, Shiphrah was invited to judge the Girls
Impact the World Film Festival at Harvard University in '14. She has
also served as a first round judge for the Screenwriting Competition at
the Austin Film Festival in and assisted in several other film
festivals in New Zealand and Texas. Apart from her film experience,
Shiphrah was an internationally competitive pianist until '09, with
performances in such venues as the prestigious Kennedy Center for
Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and master classes in Northern
Italy, '09. She has also won several awards at the Bradshaw & Buono
Piano Competition at Carnegie Hall, New York. Shiphrah graduated with a
3.9/4.0 GPA at the University of Auckland, holding double degrees
English Literature and Social Anthropology. She has studied in an
Honors Exchange on the scholarship, Abroad Universitas 21 Award '12, at
the University of Edinburgh from '12-13.
